  • For many, dress watches may not look like much.... They are simple, calm and elegant timepieces, nothing too flashy.
    And yet, these - at first glance - simple designs can easily captivate you, and when you get right down to it, seemingly tiny changes can completely transform the entire look and feel of the watch.
    Here you can find again all charts and tables for further reading:

    And now I know why all the watches I like are from the late 1940s, Playful Leaf Hands, etc. 😂 Way to go. And thank you Marcus. Great article.

      Was hälst du von den Cartier Tanks? Vielleicht kannst du irgendwann mal ein Video über die machen? Nur als Idee! Macht weiter so! LG

    I like the Omega. Oh my goodness and lots of the others too. Smaller watches are very preferable in my opinion.

    why are those numbers name Arabic, while they are not at all(expect two of them) arabic?

    Quite incomplete. Nothing said about dials (two tone, three dimensionality...) and lugs. Besides, Chrono24 sellers become notoriously unreliable in stating the correct age for early watches. So, how true are these conclusions?

    • @GoldammerVintageWatches
      @GoldammerVintageWatches  7 місяців тому

      You are absolutely right that many chrono sellers do not provide the correct data. Our data are also not set in stone but should give an overview. We have compared over 6000 listed pieces, so we can still see a rough trend. The only trustworthy data you would get only from the watch manufacturers themselves, but since this is unfortunately not the case, you have to get creative and work with the information you can get. I would not say that this guide is incomplete, because we are limited to the main components of a vintage watch - size, numeral layout, hour marker and hands. Kind regards, Félix

    • @dllerrorr8605
      @dllerrorr8605 7 місяців тому

      Thanks Felix, another thought here: Chrono24 basically lists A-brand watches, and mainly, swiss watches. Lesser, and non swiss brands, were thrown away or are sold via local markets. LIP, a huge French watchmaker at that time, is grossly under represented in Chrono24 as are many of the lesser swiss watch brands. What does this mean wrt sizes? Personally, based on what i own, diameters of watches grew from 29mm in the 30s to 33/34mm at the start of the sixties. Nearly all LIP dress watches from that period are 32/33mm, many Burens and Mido's were 31/32mm. Omegas were 33.5mm in the late 50s and 34.5 in the 60s. What i basically 'see' is that (dress-) watches grow bigger each decade, by 1mm or so. Its probably going to stop at 40/42mm and then jo-jo a bit on the waves of fashion. Ciao!@@GoldammerVintageWatches

      Definitely a nice collection of classic timepieces, liked the graphs which were nice to chart time, of course it’s only a snapshot of some makers, there were others, some no longer around, wonder where TIMEX fitted in here from its 50’s origins into the 60’s.?
