The final trailer for X:men: Apocalypse has hit the internet, with new scenes and more story, along with three particular claws that "snikt" at the very end! The panel breaks down the last trailer for May’s upcoming X-Men movie!
    Green Lantern Corps Characters Rumored
Three Green Lanterns in DC Films Green Lantern Corps looks to cast its Big Screen Team up in a buddy cop/space movie that’s on its way to in less than five years. The panel dive in and speculate on what the Green Lantern movie has to offer!
Inhumans Movie Pulled from Release Schedule

So The Flash has its small screen Barry Allen, Captain Cold and Reverse Flash… But what about the feature adaptation? According to a scoop from Heroic Hollywood, there’s a call sheet listing the parts for Eobard Thawne, Iris West, Len Snart, Fred Chyre, and Jay Garrick. Winter Soldier completely changed my perception of Captain America. Favorite MCU movie so far. That movie is right up my alley and was made for me. They had Cap fighting assassins and mercenaries and just had this very Bourne-esque feel to it in terms of the political thriller aspect and the hand to hand combat. Absolutely love that movie.

      Arrow isn't a campy show.
I just don't want to see the tv show DC universe to have to be restricted in any way cuz of the DCCU.
Trying to converge two things that were obviously built to be separate from the start at this point would be very messy and incoherent.

Arrow has better moments of levity than the two Zack Snyder directed DCCU movies. That doesn't necessarily make it campy. Just wait for other movies not directed by him to be released and you'll see.

+ryan smith No the shows are definitely a separate entity, that happens to exist in the same world as the movies, but are mostly unrelated. Yes, there are a couple of crossover AoS episodes, and they sometimes throw in Fury or Maria Hill, but you miss nothing but not seeing those. The Netflix shows had a line or two that referenced Avengers, but it really exists on its own. Winter Soldier actually killed off SHIELD in the MCU, and then TV show had to rewrite itself to accommodate that (and then there was a "bad" SHIELD, ect...). It would great to see the Netflix characters appear in Infinity War, but I can't see it happening.

I think the disconnect with hero violence is that for many of those heroes, the "higher path" or "not killing" is a vital part of who the character is story wise.
Batman had his parents killed and he witnessed it. So Batman has this morale code where he refuses to kill people, he doesnt want to become that guy who killed his parents. He wants to stop those people and he feels the cops cant get it done themselves. So having him kill, in a way, sort of defies that critical part of who the character is suppose to be.
Superman doesnt have that same background. He is an alien whose planet blew up and he represents the simple hard work of growing up on the farm and not letting the big city change who you are, even if you find out that you are the most powerful person in the world. its that grounded "smallville" that keeps Superman from being a tyrant, so to see him defy that upbringing and not strive for something better than crime, is to defy who the character is.
and to answer Robert's question, they found a way to contain Doomsday for years right? in the comics we see Doomsday in a containment suit, buried in the ground. Removed from sunlight, he would eventually power down. He had only been on Earth for a brief time.

DanV900 Simon is more serious? I'm not sure what your referring to but the Simon Williams I read about in the Avengers comics was a stunt double who had dreams of becoming a big screen actor, a guy who would go to all the red carpet events to be seen, date the latest big Hollywood stars, go out and paint the town red with Hank McCoy ( the beast ) and come back home at dawn with hangovers the size of Australia. He was CONSTANTLY playing jokes with his best bud Beast and others. Not sure where your Simon Williams comes from but that sounds exactly like a role Nathan Fillion could do.

Schnepp - (1) I have read the whole comics, and Batman has killed during several periods of his career. First, starting with the original Detective Comics (both before he had his own title and for a while afterward), Batman killed pretty regularly. He carried a dagger and a revolver. He threw guys into vats of acid, snapped necks, watched a guy burn to death (rather than trying to save him), shot up the occupied cab of a truck with a plane-mounted machine gun, killed a brainwashed pawn of the bad guy, etc. Later, particularly in the 80s, he killed a number of times, including using a guy as a human shield (you could cite a technicality here, but that's still killing). I know they made him kill-free for most of his time in comics and that's what fanboys are glomming onto, but to say that people who point that out just haven't read the whole comics like you did is just mistaken. I would suggest you go back and read the first Detective Comics Batman, as well as the early Batman titles. He has killed and there's no debate about it.
Granted, the modern Batman doesn't kill (not usually, anyway), but to claim it never happened and people are taking panels out of context is wrong.
    (2) I think you -- along with a LOT of people -- misunderstood the BvS Batman. The film wasn't saying "Oh, Batman's a killer in this universe because... awesome!" The filmmakers went with an older Batman for a reason. They showed Bruce doing the walk-by of the (presumably dead) Robin's armor for a reason. They had Alfred making those disappointed/worried/bitter comments to him for a reason. And they left breadcrumbs all throughout the film that lead you to that reason.
Starting near the beginning, there's a newspaper headline that announces that the caped vigilante had become "judge, jury, and executioner" (as if it was a new thing, not his standard MO). They made a big deal about the fact that he was branding criminals (and Superman's reaction to it, while delivered a little clumsily, is meant to be a surrogate for the audience's reaction). They show the walk-by of the Robin armor. They showed Batman killing tons of bad guys. All this, put together, is meant to tell you that this is a Batman who has experienced tragedy (the death in the family) and, as a result, slipped down the slippery slope toward the dark side (so to speak). He didn't use to be kill-friendly (before the beginning of the movie, when he was a younger Batman), but the tragic events in his life (which he likely blames himself for, though that part is not explicitly stated) have turned him into one of the "good men turned cruel" that Alfred mentions.
With the arrival of Superman and the destruction of a big chunk of Metropolis (and the people inhabiting that chunk), Batman slips even further down the slippery slope. He goes from being willing to torture and kill bad guys to being obsessed with killing someone who might be a good guy on the "even 1% chance" that he might turn out to be a bad guy somewhere down the road. At this point in the movie, Batman's gone over the edge.
The Martha moment is a little silly/clumsy/ham-fisted, but it's a moment of humanization that's snaps Batman out of it for a second. Then, when Superman sacrifices himself to save everyone, Batman realizes that he'd gotten this guy totally wrong and also realizes how far he, himself, had slipped down the slippery slope. Superman's sacrifice brought Batman back from the edge. This is capped when he says (about Superman), "I failed him in life. I won't fail him in death." This is the beginning of the more traditional Batman that you guys have cried about since BvS came out.
What you missed was that DC gave these guys character arcs that started them out dark so they could grow into the light.
Think about it: Before MoS came out, what was the big question/worry that everyone had? How are they going to make this goody-goody, boy scout character interesting and relevant in modern times? The internet "wisdom" at the time was that you couldn't really do it and that modern audience preferred "grittier" superheros. What Snyder did to answer that question, imo, was brilliant: he gave Superman an inciting incident that leads to his traditional morality. In MoS, Superman was a brand new superhero. He was faced with nearly impossible odds. He did everything he could not to kill Zod, but finally, with only a few seconds remaining before all of humanity would be wiped out, he was backed into a corner and saw no other solution but to kill Zod. If you watch that scene again, you'll see that he didn't enjoy it. That wasn't a scream of joy at getting to kill someone when he snaps Zod's neck; it's a scream of anguish. Killing is so abhorrent to him, but he had no options left. And, I guarantee you, that moment will haunt Superman going forward. What Snyder did was give Superman a bitter seed around which he will form his more traditional "never kill" policy.
Batman, otoh, has always occupied the gray area between heroes like Superman and the villains. So where do you start him in a movie like this? You start him already in the middle of a very dark part of his character arc, and then bring him back from it. That's what they did, and I don't understand why people didn't get this (other than the fact that the shots moved quickly and the filmmakers tried to communicate a lot of info through quick, single shots and props).
To my mind, BvS's take on Batman was a bit of a commentary on the torture/waterboarding/extraordinary rendition debate from RL. It played with the theme we've been wrestling with IRL: "if you adopt the methods and attitudes of the bad guys, are you still a good guy?" And "how far is too far?" In this movie, Batman was the bad guy. A well-intentioned, unintentional bad guy, but the bad guy nonetheless. Superman's sacrifice is what woke him up and brought him back.
Personally, I loved their take on both these characters. Much deeper than just "uh... Superman and Batman don't kill because the comics."

    • @WinterGirlRules
      @WinterGirlRules 8 років тому

THANK YOU!!! That's whatI have been trying to say since the movie came out. This is the "Post Crisis" DC Universe. Everything that came before is, well, before. It will be referenced, and it has been. But this is a new DC Universe for the screen. The Christopher Reeve, Burton, Nolan era never happened in this universe. There is no reversing the rotation of the Earth. Actions have consequences. This is a DC Universe in the era of movies like Iron man, The Punisher, etc. this is a DC Universe in a Post 9/11 world, and this is a Superman and Batman that have grown up in such a world. They are going to need to take a journey to be the heroes we knew them to be before the rebirth of the DC Universe. I just worry that a lot of audiences aren't patient and that they don't understand what is happening. I worry that that lack of understanding will result in the death of the DC Universe before it even has a chance to grow. But I am loving what we have so far and can't wait to see what's next for as long as there is a "next."

My theory as to why the Flash was seen wearing armour in BvS. - Differing from the TV version of the Flash, this movie version doesn't have to be running to time travel. The movie version is only able to time travel while concentrating (hence running is out of the question) and using his speed force to vibrate his molecules and open a time portal. Arriving in the same spot, but at a different time. However there is an extreme risk that he could vibrate his molecules so fast that they may simply disperse. With the aid of Batman he has created a containment suit that allows him the time jump safely. The scene in BvS is an initial test of that suit. Flash travelling back from a future Batcave (while Batman monitors) in an attempt to change his timeline and prevent the death of Lois Lane (causing the Injustice universe). However obviously as he hasn't had much practice, he arrives to early. Just a theory and probably totally wrong, but it does explain the goofy armour in a way that makes sense in the DC Universe. Thoughts?

Schnepp, I'm totes against you on BvS but TOTES WITH YOU on the Flash idea. I would love for a,little fan service to see him figure out time and dimension travel with quick accidental trips to the Flarrowverse, Supergirl, even Gotham. Nothing that takes more than 90 seconds but it's a fun little nod to TV fans.
I am worried about how it's going to differentiate from the show. That thing is so good and is the only Flash I know outside of the guest spots on Smallville. I'm trying to start with the comics but that show is just definitive for me right now. The rumor I heard about Cyborg being involved makes me hopeful it can be different enough.

Richard Madden for Kyle Rayner. Best known as Robb Stark in Game of Thrones. He needs another identifier role to pick up his career, he's a good actor. Or, failing that an Asian actor could play the role easily.
Byung-hun Lee played the T-1000 in the lastest Terminator, he could use a chance to have a better movie under his belt.

if marvel gets along with Fox.
phase 4 leads to avengers verses Dr. doom
phase 5 could be extended to be longer and is the skrulls invasion
phase 6 skrulls invading cause galactus ate their planet and he is coming to earth next.
I hope marvel never resets the universe for awhile. as actors leave bring in new characters not recast.

Yea it's a great movie on it's own, but if Pixar has a bunch a great movies you like, why not compare it to other Pixar movies you like. Call it a good movie, good comic book movie, a good action movie, a good Disney or a good Marvel. All they're doing is putting their comparisons in context.

Tongue in cheek, Wise could play a retired GL who the others turn to for advice as a relief-point in the film. Put him in a bathrobe with the classic GL power ring, that would be funny to play around with.

My guess as to who the three human lanterns are is as follows Hal, Guy, and John. As much as I would like to see Kyle on the big screen the fact is his origin (and yes it still is canon to this day) revolves around the events of "Emerald Twilight" short version is Hal becomes a villain and nearly kills of the entire "Green Lantern Corps." Making Kyle basically the last of the "Green Lanterns." If Kyle does end up being in the movie they had better have plans to do an "Emerald Twilight" movie or at the very least mention the events of it.

Man a lot of people forget about Redford's Alexander Pierce as a great MCU villain! I think it's because he wasn't overtly twiddling his fingers in the shadows, but I think as an Emperor to The Winter Soldier's Vader, and as a Bourne-franchise-like ideological government antagonist, that character and performance was incredible.
But at the same time I think that's another reason why the people I speak to forget about guys like him, Wilson Fisk, or even Loki: they're actual characters, with depth, and you feel a modicum of compassion towards them. For me a great movie is one that makes you think, and a Comic Book screen adaptation is only as good as its villain. And if a CBM villain makes me think, you've got one hell of a best of both world scenario going on.

I absolutely love Captain America the Winter Soldier. It's not only my favorite Marvel Studios film, but just one of my favorite films. It was a piece of cinema that made come to love Captain America. And I speak as someone who never really liked Captain America. No offense to the character. I respected everything he stood for and why he was created. But I always saw him as Superman light.
What Chris Evans did for that character was made me realize how ill-informed I was. That Captain America can be a relatable, badass who can inspire individuals just by his principles. And for me, that's what I wanted from Man of Steel. I still love Henry Cavil as an actor, but Evans just sold me on Cap. And the film is excellent. Almost every scene has a point. The relationships were great, the action was spectacular and the twist was superb.
If anything, I have a few gripes with the film. One it is a bit long. Specifically, towards the end. The Russo's could have trimmed down some of the fight scenes, like Falcon with Crossbones. The second is the whole Armin Zola scene while a very clever justification for delivering exposition;it is still a bit of an information dump. Mind you, it is not as painful as some other Superhero movies(MOS,cough), but it is still something to note.
Also, I did feel like some of the editing for the action, specifically ,the elevator scene(still my favorite scene in the movie) where some of the cuts are jarring. And finally, I wish the film did delve more into the Winter Soldier(hopefully, Civil War does that), but I still love the film, regardless.
    Fantastic podcast as always.
