This was a folk song I chose for my then 5yo son (now 6yo) to learn and we had a blast practising in the living room with him dancing and trying to play the harmonica in tune. 😊 Recently, he asked me to play this rendition again - we love it!
Since I grew up in Nashville and later lived in Bristol, then certainly I was raised and spoon fed on the Carter Family, Flatt, and Scruggs, Mac Weisman, Carl Smith, etc. But I have to admit: you Yankee boys have got the sound down pat. You guys have graduated to the high, wailing realm of the true HillBilly Artist and Masterful Folk Musicians. Keep goin!
Please don't forget that it was the interest in NYC in the late fifties and early sixties that helped a lot of the great southern players, such as Doc Watson, get his start. New England, the Pacific Northwest, Michigan... It has truly become a national music that grew out of Appalachia, just as jazz grew out the lower Mississippi (only that went world-wide faster). Thanks to Thomas Edison and Marconi, great music no longer is confined to small areas. There are good bluegrass, Cajun, Celtic, jazz, even Quechua groups scattered all throughout Europe. We live, at least in this respect, in a golden era. Best wishes from Sweden.🌹
I listen to these guys about at least 10 to 15 times a day... these guys taught me how to do Bluegrass on my ukulele and have it really sound good..... can't get enough of them
Thanks so much for this. I grew up in the South .... South part of Brooklyn, that is ... and it's so great to hear you guys making this wonderful music. Hope you get some gigs so we can come see you live.
I love the lyrics in the first two verses. They're the ones that Maybelle and Sara used, very different from the ones sung by Lester Flatt, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band or many other people.
Hi.nicely done on these instruments Chaps!! i like the mando chopping/playing,lovely, i was wondering if you can tell me these"chop" chords used on the mando?? excellent tempo and timing, well done, please continue playing and singing! post moreeeeee ty
Great version of a Carter family classic. What year is the guitar player's Gibson Southern Jumbo. I play a 1955 SJ and a 1948 Gibon J-50 that will; knock your socks off. Mike
Glad to see young people carry these older songs forward.

I live in Carter family country in Virginia and i can say they would appreciate your fine rendition of their song. Thank you for your music.
Well, you got the correct tempo! Nice!!! I am a north easterner who lovessss this form of authentic original country music! Great share! Thank you!
True that this has been a hard song for me to learn! No one picks the melody to this song like Maybelle did in those days!
Very very nice and good playing...Jack Baker NYC

Nice version, however. I'd never seen Maybelle's solos played on a banjo or mandolin before. Hard song to pick on a guitar.
Love this!!! You don't have a tab for the guitar part do you?
Wonder what these guy's are up to now?
Maybelle would be proud of these boys.
The guy on the bass looks bored, but he seemed more into it at the end. LOL Their playing is awesome.
I think Maybelle would approve. Sara definitely would.
What brand of microphone are you using?
Thats some serious skills. I think you are in the wrong part of the country. Get to the mountains where more people can enjoy that talent.
