I realize I am too young for their era, however, my Dad was 50 when I was born. I grew up listening to records of Flatt and Scruggs, The Carter Family, and many more. In particular, this remains my all-time favorite song in spite of the many, more modern music genres I love. It's really nice that songs like this have been uploaded to UA-cam for others to enjoy and discover. Thanks for posting it.

God bless Mr. Earl Scruggs. One of the Fathers of Bluegrass. A legend forever.
He invented the bluegrass banjo sound we all love today.

That is a Mother Maybelle Carter lick. She taught it to Earl. Great music never dies it just get passed down for other generations to enjoy.

I love the sly little grins Mr. Scruggs shows at each hand of applause. You can almost hear him thinking, "I 'preciate the applause, but I could play this perfectly even if I were 200 years old."

I’ve just been watching all the early black and white tv shows of flatt and scruggs , They are incredible and earl scruggs is a master on the banjo and guitar , And even at a ripe old age he hasn’t lost any of his dexterity

I still have my black Earl Scruggs book , which I had him autograph, and a picture of me shaking his hand, at the bluegrass festival in weiser Idaho 1976 and anther of him signing my book again at the cotillion in Wichita Ks.
    In 2010.

Earl Scruggs. Probably the last musician at that time who actually knew Mother Maybelle well, and played on TV with her. He was probably the last of the group of the Carters, the Cash's, etc.

"Does God let Earl play his banjo in heaven?" Would some talented songwriter please write a bluegrass song with those words as the title. Perhaps to the tune of Great Speckled Bird / Honkytonk Angels. I expect the angels have all traded in their harps for fiddles, dobros, mandolins & bass so they can play along with Earl.
