Was looking at this one in my local shop. I am now reloading.380 and want a larger pistol for range use. Now I have an LCP Max and a Walther PPK, both are not fun to put a lot of rounds through.
Good review. Now I need to decide between this one and the Bersa Thunder 380 plus. Kind of leaning towards the Ruger if for no other reason then it comes with (now I thought it had 3 15 round mags but you say only 2 and one of them is a 10 round), going to have to look into that and the Bersa only one (the mags are close to $50 each). I do like the Bersa's all metal frame and I like DA/SA guns. But the Ruger is about half the price and that is something to consider. Sigh Decisions, Decisions. Thanks for the review, keep up the good work.
Go for the Ruger! Got mine a few months ago and do not regret the decision. Fun and easy to shoot and CC -even with the 15 round mag. I've never shot a Bersa but have an old Browning BDA .380 and I still found the Ruger to be more fun to shoot. Plus the lighter weight is a plus when carrying.
Bersa's are pretty nice for the money, but it's extra cool to get a 380 that isn't blowback. Security-380 has a proper Browning action and it makes a difference. This is the softest shooting pistol I have outside of my 22's.
The Security 9 and Security 380 are basically scaled-up LCP II pistol. I have the Security 9 and it works but I have an odd problem with the 15-round magazines that no one can reproduce or explain.
I bought this gun recently. I have had numerous handguns over the course of 30 years. Also a few Ruger semiautomatic pistols that didn’t cut the mustard. I am surprised how well this gun points. I haven’t shot it yet but am sure it will be a winner.
I think Ruger made this to go head to head with the M&P 380 Shield EZ. It’s about the same size but has more capacity. It having a rail and being bigger than the Ruger LCP Max makes it a better option as a home defense firearm chambered in 380 acp.
Ruger was smart with this one, making it compatible with existing Security-9 Compact holsters. I'm pretty sure the lowers are exactly the same and the slide is similar enough to cause no fit issues. Anyone who already has an S-9c will be ready to carry right out of the box, and those buying in for the first time will not have to go custom or wait for the market to catch up. That's money in the bank.
It looks nice. One issue I have with small pistols is I am left handed and have several 380 pistols that don't have good left handed holster options. I'm so accustomed to having the mag release on the left side that I don't think moving it on some pistols would be useful. I cannot carry my S&W bodyguard .380 in a waist holster or ankle holster because the mag releases so easily and a pistol without a mag is not a situation I want to be in when I need the pistol. Also I found the laser gets turned on every time it goes in or out of the holsters. The laser is useless but the battery just will not die! A red dot on the ground aside my foot isn't something I want to explain. I do carry it in a gun pocket in my vest when I am on my motorcycle and sometimes in a holster shirt. I also have arthritis in both hands so an easy slide with good gripping area and not to stiff a recoil spring looks tempting...if my state approves it on it's multiple rosters! In winter however I carry a 9 or 45 in a larger frame.
@@XRinger My holsters cover the mag release too. The kydex and the leather holsters can't hold back the pressure from my belt however. Everything I've tried puts the mag release at the belt line. Even the 2 ankle holsters dump the mags. It could use a heavier mag button spring. S&W is in the process of escaping Massachusetts. I don't know if they have Customer Service set up still/yet. I doubt they make a stiffer spring but they might be able to recommend something. My laser is incorporated to the frame. I could probably gut it but that would leave holes in the frame.
@@XRingerAll my holsters cover the mag release but when I put them in the waistband and tighten my belt the pressure dumps the mag. I do have a paint dot on the sight up front and the laser is incorporated into the frame.
@@moushunter I just looked at my BG380 holster and noticed a bump in the Kydex on the mag button. The Kydex runs tight on both sides of the trigger guard bottom (also on both sides of the grip and slide). No matter the pressure, I can't get the mag to pop out. The button is sitting inside a little round tent of Kydex. The kydex can't reach it. If you have a heat gun, you might be able to fix your holster. Stack a 4x4mm square stack of gorilla tape (1 or 2 layers) on top of the button. Heat up the kydex where the button is, insert the pistol and then push the hot kydex down around button. Forming a little round house for you button. let it cool off, remove the pistol and tape. I made it to 1:22 before I quit watching. Still looking for a review for this gun that doesn't relegate it to females and elderly people. I'm an able bodied middle aged man with strong hands. I carry many calibers, usually .45 or .40, but I own plenty more for various reasons. I want this gun because it's 16 rounds of .380, while everything else on the market is little pocket pistols with half the capacity. And, it's half the price of the 80X Cheetah. It will do well as a home defense gun in a particular room, and also as a range gun. Funny, the same people that shit on .45 in favor of 9mm using the arguments of faster follow up shots, shot placement, and "advances in modern bullet technology" don't realize the same can be said for .380 over 9mm.
You may want to check out the Ruger Security 380 which can hold 15 + 1 rounds of 380 and has their "lite rack" system. Although it is generally targeted for women and folks with any kind of hand/dtrength issues, it appears to be well builit by a reputable company that stands by their products if you should have any problems. Hard believe most reviews these days by the "name" brand reviewers as most are suppled a T&E gun to review and you can be certain that the manufacturer has had someone check out the function of the T&E gun completely before shipping it out so that the reviewer will write a favorable review. In some instances the difference between the T&E unit and one anyone else can buy off the shelf can be dramatic. Don't want honesty getting in the way of sales. I am interested in this model and am waiting for my range to get one in for a rental since any gun that stands up to rental usage probably will be trouble free for the average person.
I bought one so I wouldn't have to do a pocket gun. I've shot a p89 9mm for for 17 years just fine. It's a good extra one to have around. I like the size and the slide. I'm 38 and well able. 😉
@@BenjaminDaniel85 I've had my P89 since '94 and it is hardly broken in after thousands of rounds, a true tank of a gun. I have arthritis now and bought a Walther CCP gen 2 and it is easier to rack than the P89 but isn't nearly as easy as my Shield 380 EZ. The Shield is a great gun but the capacity is limited to 8 + 1. Having 15 +1 with a lite rack system is very appealing. Waiting for my range to get one in so I can rent it and try it out before buying one of these. Think that Ruger has a winner here. I have shot the LCP II but it is too small for my large hands and digs in right where it hurts most and having something closer to a full grip makes all of the difference, though it won't conceal well in a pocket like the LCP. Have no doubt with today's choices of 380 defensive ammo that it can do the job if ever needed.

Good question! Similar to you, I don’t “need” to shoot a .380 (middle aged, good strength, not recoil-sensitive). I’ve found my Security .380 to be amazingly accurate (longer barrel, easy to get purchase on this larger gun), reliable (so important), and plain enjoyable to shoot with amazing capacity.

My one and only complaint about this gun has to do with the inevitable flaws of any compromise design. Because the magazines are modified 9mm instead of dedicated 380, the follower fits kinda weird. The nose tends to tilt up quite a bit when empty, which causes some weird interactions with the slide lock tab, but it has never failed to work correctly so it's a non-issue. It feels kinda weird inserting the mags sometimes and I worry I'm going to break the guide tabs on the bottom of the follower if it were to pop out too far, so I do tend to pay it some extra mind when handling it empty. Aside from that, it has worked flawlessly with several hundred rounds so far. Softest shooting pistol I own outside of 22LR.
I would prefer to use a 9mm handgun but they seem to be too big for concealed carry. Seriously considering purchasing this particular for concealed carry.
@@TADDs101 I haven't seen the Security 380 in person, but I do own a Sig P365-380. I found a website that had a size comparison between the two pistols. From what I see, the Security 380 is about 3/4 inch longer on the barrel and about 1/2 inch longer on the handle. I like my Sig P365 because it looks like it would be a good concealed carry gun, but I don't think it would be difficult at all walking around with a Security 380 as a concealed carry gun. By that, I mean you wouldn't be able to tell that I would be carrying.
damn, comparing my 2nd favorite little carry piece (I own the P30L and it is a main carry for me for a reason) currently carrying a Walther PPK .22 and feeling totally fine with that but man....for the price? this might very well become a part of my collection, at the least it's something for me to recommend....that said, imo the best carry gun right now that fits everything i put in my journal 7 years ago of "what id want in....." is the Smith and Wesson Equalizer, it's just too perfect, for me. This? really great though, the fact there is even an argument to compare it to an HK P30SK V1 LEM (though /w a grayguns mod im sorry but there is NO WAY i'd take the ruger over the SK LEM, hell, idk if i would anyway, tbh)
To be fair, 357mag is likely to go much deeper, but from a 3.5" barrel with good ammo selection, I believe 380 hollowpoints will accomplish the task at hand.
Ngl im poor so.i cant afford to shoot a ton but i have a decemt assortrment my carry guns are a 709 sllim or a colt 1903 in 32 and i gotta say my 709 is not fun to shoot i shoot every once in awhile and i had way more fun and can shoot better my 1911 in 45 my tx22 my colt in 32 and my 38 speical so im thinking of getting a 380 carry gun the smith and wesson 2.0 and.i have heard its easy and fun to shoot so i think having a carry gun that is fun to shoot and easyer to shoot.is a plus and if im going to carry 380 why not get a sort of full size one i already have the ammo and its easyer to shoot and on top of that i can even get a hi point carbine in 380

UPDATE- It is not double action. It is single action only and uses an internal hammer. It’s a pretty fun gun. 15+1 of .380 with no recoil is no joke!
Nice
Ho do they get 5 extra rounds in this short elongation? I think the 10 rounder maybe is reduced to 10?
I haven't seen one decent review of the Beretta Cheetah 80X (380)
does it come with both mags
Yes. Depending on the sku 2x10 or 2x15 round mags
I would prefer to use a 9mm handgun but they seem to be too big for concealed carry. Seriously considering purchasing this particular for concealed carry.
Have you seen it in person? I was surprised when I first seen/held one .. I was not expecting it to be that large frame for a .380
@@TADDs101 I haven't seen the Security 380 in person, but I do own a Sig P365-380.
299is a fair price?
Question anyone i have a Ruger Lcp max, which i like but the slide rattles, does the security 380 do the same thing❓️
no rattle,I have one
@@mossyoak1957thanks👍🏽
Is this a DA trigger system?
Purchased mine as an impulse buy lol 😆 Don't typically care for anything under 9mm. It's a great firearm for beginners, females, and old people.
I know grown men that carry this
damn, comparing my 2nd favorite little carry piece (I own the P30L and it is a main carry for me for a reason) currently carrying a Walther PPK .22 and feeling totally fine with that but man....for the price? this might very well become a part of my collection, at the least it's something for me to recommend....that said, imo the best carry gun right now that fits everything i put in my journal 7 years ago of "what id want in....." is the Smith and Wesson Equalizer, it's just too perfect, for me.
This? really great though, the fact there is even an argument to compare it to an HK P30SK V1 LEM (though /w a grayguns mod im sorry but there is NO WAY i'd take the ruger over the SK LEM, hell, idk if i would anyway, tbh)
(6) 357 Magnum holes @ .60” diameter = 3.6” total hole.
(15) 380 ACP holes @ .355” Diameter = 5.3” total hole.
Something to think about.
To be fair, 357mag is likely to go much deeper, but from a 3.5" barrel with good ammo selection, I believe 380 hollowpoints will accomplish the task at hand.
Sorry to interupt but 357 magnum is .357 not .60. 45 acp is .452. Something to think about. LOL
@@garybray3614 Yeah both have a 9mm diameter.
I love mine! Because "This gun fits my hand better, than this (other) gun!" 😊
Ngl im poor so.i cant afford to shoot a ton but i have a decemt assortrment my carry guns are a 709 sllim or a colt 1903 in 32 and i gotta say my 709 is not fun to shoot i shoot every once in awhile and i had way more fun and can shoot better my 1911 in 45 my tx22 my colt in 32 and my 38 speical so im thinking of getting a 380 carry gun the smith and wesson 2.0 and.i have heard its easy and fun to shoot so i think having a carry gun that is fun to shoot and easyer to shoot.is a plus and if im going to carry 380 why not get a sort of full size one i already have the ammo and its easyer to shoot and on top of that i can even get a hi point carbine in 380
your voice sounds like steve earl
Red dot capable?
Interesting, but I'm not sure it's for me. Prefer ambidextrous safeties. At least for now I'm still fine handling the 9mm.
👍
I was informed by a very sophisticated woman that a "purse" is for carrying change (coins). One should refer to what a women carries as a "hand bag." 😉
She carries hands in it? 😉
People talk like a 22 25 380 is a BB gun more people are killed with 22 than any other gun
No optics cut = No thanks!
Comparing a glock to a ruger is like comparing a Yugo to a rolls royce
You mean the ruger as the rolls right
Dude, first you showe what you got! After your presentation you beg for love! You can just start video and straight in face start to beg! Doesn't work that way! Think! Ok?
This thing is a blowback operated gun. Get a high quality tilt barrel gun like a walther PD .380 cost a little bit more not a whole lot. Miles ahead in quality.
It is not a blowback design
@@margaretcarroll5157 you are absolutely correct sorry for the mistake!

Interested in gun but your talking is straight snooze
