  • / @nickfoleyuk Good morning all, hope you are well?
Middle of summer '23 and before going to find a jumper out of the wardrobe I had just enough time to take in this Cruma Mojo 61 from the good people at ‪@FairDealMusicVideos‬ in the West Midlands of England who were kind enough to lend the unit to me for the week for my channel.
This is my first real look and listen to the beast having played it once before on stage around 2013 or so and not having a very natural time with it. today was different, very different!
Please let me know what you think and I will try to get the time to pit it against the main contender for the crown of best Clonewheel and maybe even the beast itself! More from me exclusively at / nickfoleyuk

It’s an amazing piece and using a ( slightly tweeked ) 760 leslie it can be a monster on stage. You audience will love it

Maybe this is the most versatile single manual hammond clone.
You just tried one out of the 20 different hammond organ generations (each has a significant different behavior) 😮😊😂
The leslie is tweakable in many parameters.
The overdrive can be adjusted in many parameters (expecially the TUBE FEEDBACK feature).
It include (it's the only digital clonewheel providing this feature) the real behavior of xtalk frequencies on upper manual with/without percussion.
For the pipe/electronic/transistor organs the drawbars acts in the related way.
Electric pianos and clavinet are the same (virtual modeled) of the Crumar Seven, so the best virtual modeled at the moment (totally tweakable) and new acoustic piano (sampled) too 😀
It would need a 5 hours video just to explore all parameters 😂😅

Are all 20 organs available at hand or do I have to switch wit an app or something?

    • @marcoballa

      Very easy, super fast!
      Everything is on the app/editor.
You can connect PC/pad/smartphone in few seconds via Wifi or USB.
Then you have all under your fingers, on a easy to use display.
I'm posting here an exaple of mine, hope the link is not blocked...

I get where you are coming from with your comment.
I like the presentation style though and he certainly includes some sustained chords which I appreciate as most UA-cam organ reviews are just showing off how quickly the presenter can play, and that is counterproductive because the notes pass by so quickly that you cannot evaluate how good they sound. You need sustained chords to evaluate Chorus/ Vibrato/
And Leslie quality! But as you rightly point out there’s a whole lot of tweakable parameters inside a Crumar and the VB3 software.
One of my personal gripes ( not related to this presenter)is the online demos of Leslie SIMs. They’re mostly done by guitarists - and the narrow frequency band of a guitar doesn’t really show if it’s going to sound good with the massive range of frequencies of an Organist playing bass pedals as well as keyboards. You also need to hear a Leslie Sim in Stereo ( and preferably live) to hear how it moves the air in the room- which microphones don’t pickup).

Bought the Mojo 61 myself 10 months ago. Just did the piano update. I'm looking forward to your demo and unbiased opinion of it (good or bad) which is always what you do so nicely.
    Cheers 👍

I've used vb3 for years. It's getting pretty long in the tooth but still holds up against the ever improving XKs and such.
The leslie is maybe a bit short of a Neo Vent but still cuts it when you don't want to set up another pedal.
I'm mainly using B3x these days but am always ready to use vb3m in certain situations.

They named this thing right, that's for sure. I just wish the piano and rhodes were usable, but they really don't matter that much to me since the organs are so dope

I am not really the organ type, but when I see the fast spirit fingers running over the keyboard like that, I can only dig it.

Lovely presentation as always. The map price on this is astonishingly reasonable compared to what I paid for a new XK3c a few years ago.
Would appreciate to hear your opinion of the keybed response, some of the Rhodes, wurly’s as well. Maybe an a/b with the kx5 if time permits. The overdrive toward the end of your video reminded me a bit of Head East. Thanks, Nick. 🎧

it's fantastic. Regret selling mine :)
only thing that's annoying is that you can't assign EP parameters to the drawbars in the editor. It would be cool to be able to do the clav pickup switches and stuff like that but to use those live you have to attach a MicroKorg or something that you can assign parameters to

Is the entire review played with overdrive dimed? Much easier to get a sense for the quality of a clone wheel without all the dirt, which hides a multitude of sins.

You can use the Leslie simulator only with the Hammond sound? Not even with the Vox and Farfisa sounds? It's a bit weird decision

you can get all the Crumar organs and EPs with some more flexibility via the GSI Gemini and do stuff like that. But it's weedy and you need a MIDI board that works well for it.

Seems you have a VERY limited range of how an organ is to be used. You do know it’s good for more than just SCREAMING JON LORD SOLOS. Everything from 60s Soul/R&B, Blue Note/Jimmy Smith/Groove Holmes type Jazz. On to Mod Revivalist like the Style Council and Ocean Colour Scene. Gospel, Reggae, Afro Pop and on an on…. I think you do the gear a disservice to only look for ONE SOUND and judge the whole on that basis. Not everyone needs a cape flailing behind them, to say whether an organ sound is acceptable.
