This turned out to be a longer video than expected.. i do blabber on a bit!! hehe Hope you enjoy it! Cheers! Music by: Kevin Macleod ("Clash Defiant", "Drone in D").
After watching loads of videos on painting orks, this awesome one stood out the most. Just perfect for my new Ork army! Thanks ever so much. Love the bases as well.
Might seem odd but I really like the music you use in the background of your videos, it's very calming, handy for painting. What colour do you use for the hair on on your orks? I've just been doing mine black but it'd be nice to change it up.
Thanks man. Yes I agree, it's nice music to paint to. 🙂 I just chose a dark blue for the hair and washed it with nuln oil. Can't remember which colour. Orange would look great too. 🙂
I see now where I went wrong, as I did the reverse and painted the skin first - so as you have remined us, loads to do as I have a combat patrol plus 4 boxes of boyz and a multi-pack of both infantry and airborne.
Awesome tutorial. I've been watching a lot of videos on how to paint a lot of Orks quickly, but still to a nice standard and this really fits the bill. I've just subscribed to your channel off the back of this video alone. I want to get back to my Orks after years away from them, but I've been kind of put off by the number I've got to get done, I think you were right when you said near the end "Let go of vanity". I think I'd rather have a nice looking Horde rather than a superb looking Mob. Regarding painting/time efficiency, you could have saved yourself a minor step in there. Paint the teeth before you wash the clothes and wash them at the same time. Thanks for putting out a really useful video :)
Awesome man! thanks for the feedback and for the sub! You nailed it when you said youd rather have a good looking horde than a superb looking mob!.. also, good idea for the teeth! good luck with your orks mate! Waaagh! 😃
would be a different tone to your scheme but i like to share techniques ive picked up that may help anyone but have you considered using a bone spray or Zandri dust and washing the skin in Biel Tan Green? ive used the technique and knocked out the skin on 20 boyz and 10 nobz and a warboss in like 20 min and it really looks nice because of the light spray for the first coat it litterally shaded and almost double highlights the model for you in one swoop. Just a tip. Your Orks look fantastic btw. Ive done it as well like this only with Waaagh Flesh followed by Biel Tan and then Warboss Green and a final highlight of Skarsnik Green basically the GW scheme i guess although i like my wash only techniques results a little better

Also, make sure you’re painting under natural light or as close to natural white light as you can. If you’re painting under off coloured light your paints will look slightly off colour too
Love this guide! Just started getting into 40k and started with the Orks. Love the colours you used, wish I watched this before ordering the paints I did!
Okey weird. I bought a box set of nobs and they got holes on there back so that you can put backpacks and stuff like that on them. I will link you a imgur so you can see what i mean. imgur.com/a/pBYXJ. They got like holes on there backs. Dont know if i got an old box. I bought it from another seller then gw
ok I see. Looks like they’re the easy-to-build set from the assault on black reach boxed game. It would be easiest just to plug it up with green stuff I think.

I used your vehicle tutorial to paint my Gorkanaut !!!! I was really pleased with the result. !!! Love your style and tips. Do you have an instagram I can follow ??? Keep up the great work.
I just got back into 40k after a 6 year hiatus, saw this video and now all my boyz are painted with with this outstanding recipe. Although, I was wondering if you had any tips for darkening the Elysian green tone if you’ve ever tried to? I’m trying to make my bigger Orks darker but I’d like to keep it looking cohesive rather than a darker green from a different scale. I’m thinking of just adding rhinox hide to the mix?
back in the 2004 the drybrushing meme was on fire i remember guy just coating with chaos black, drybrush flesh with green, guns and metal metallic drybrush, then brown drybrush on clothes.
I always paint the most recessed parts first, be it armor or skin. aslong im in the base color phase there its always easy to clean up if you make mistakes. Once you go further down the line with washes and highlights it becomes harder. The way i paint my Orcs is: Skin first, clothes, armor and weapons next. Then give everything a wash and bring the base colors back up again. then its time for highlights and done.
Heya mate. So I only glue them very slightly to the base while painting. Only enough to hold the model in place temporarily. Then I make the final bases for them separately and transfer them to the new base once they’re painted. There’s a video on how I made and painted the bases on my channel 🤘🤘
The great thing about the hobby is you can paint them however you like mate. I paint mine in a way to look good and to get the painted quickly. My characters I paint to a competition level because they’re worth it. Have fun
There are a lot of guides on how to paint Ork skin, but not a lot about how to paint their clothes, armor, and weapons. This is perfectly what I was looking for! Thank you.
Lovely painted models. Most of ork players will just slab some paint, give it a wash and call it a day on that. But you actually spent some time and effort to bring them to this level.
Thanks a lot mate! i think people get scared that it will take too long to paint lots of orks, i think ive found a good balance between speed and quality. thanks again man :)
I like to ask some questions. I really like how your orks look btw and you were the most helpful of all the videos that I've seen before. I'm really new to painting models, and I'm not familiar with the terms at all amongst other things. So how do you do the "watering" technique and do you have to use a specific paint for that or any paint will do? Does that "shade" labeled paint means its for "watering" and do you have to use actual water for that? Also how many brushes do you need and for what parts. Last question is, your models at the start of the video are already really black, the original minies are more greyer. Did you paint those as well with a brush or you spray painted them? I'm really confused when it comes to painting models, I can never get the full info also I can't even strip the painting off my minies, I tried to use paint-remover but it messed up the whole plastic, when i was brushing it the whole plastic was coming down not just the paint. I'll try to use dishwasher to get it off but im not sure if its really gonna do the job. People also told me to use degreaser but that would mess up the plastic even more.
Hi mate! if i can suggest just watching a lot of WarhammerTV to learn techniques for painting and going to your nearest GW store if you can for them to show you how to paint. Also, with stripping paint, just use airbrush paint thinner from vallejo.. :D
just started painting 40k minis, focusing on ultramarines and deathguard. In the future I would also like to paint some orks, I'll use your approach for painting ork skin for sure!
This is such a great tutorial! I've been debating pulling the trigger on joining the Big WAAAGGHHH , having recently got back into the hobby and purchasing a thousand sons / tau kill team. Planning on painting my Orks with the Goffz checkers but a dark navy instead of black and possibly some ramshackle bone paint here and there, so that theyre in between death skullz and Goffz visually.
5 years of painting this recipe. tried MANY others. still the best. even after 5 years of getting better at painting. Every time I add to my orks I come back to this video, the first painting tutorial I've ever watched out of 1000s.
If I’m painting for quality rather than speed I’d paint them in pieces. Don’t paint the parts you can’t reach. Or at least just leave a wash in them like I explained in the tutorial. If someone is looking at those places and criticising you for not painting the dark depths, they’re dickheads 👍
I'm new to painting miniatures. I was wondering how you made their base plates. It looked like they were already glued to the black base plate before you added the environmental detail like your previous orks. Did you just remove them from the plate, add the texture, then glued them back on?
Hey man. I only lightly glue them to the base when painting the model. I then take them off the base and glue cork to the base, paint it, then pin the model back into place 😊
Excellent video got 60 boyz done in 4 days with this method! was 1 day building and basecoating black ( by hand :( ), 1 day painting all the base coats on for the clothes, 1 day doing skin, 1 day finishing it all off
Nice, I'm trying to improve my painting and just brought a bunch of orks in the collectors kit... This has given me some idea of how to do it and I enjoyed watching the video so thank you!
Loved the tutorial, I have just purchased Orks to get back into the hobby after many years away, I was wondering if you could list the paints you used?
Hi, Your Tutorial is awsome!! i liked it so much :). Could you show me what "black color" you used at first ?, i mean base color for the whole Ork ? , Chaos black or Abaddon Black? Thank you :)
Great technique, very nice tips! But the music is too calm for a video about orks, should have been loud heavy metal the entire time, even when you speak
You always say: This Tutorial ist for quick and easy painting. But in the end the models look 100 Times more professional then Warhammer TV painted minis Thanks for your helpful Videos
Hey man, thanks for the video, I followed this to the letter and they look great. Only issue is that they look really shiny now, even on the clothes. Did I use too much wash? What can I do to get rid of the shiny effect? I thought about just dry brushing the same colour over the shiny areas? Thanks mate
I painted 4 nobz in about 3 hours with this and they look great! Very easy to follow and the skin is one of the best I've seen. I accidentally got Coelian Greenshade instead of the athonian camoshade and they still look good, the shadows just have a slightly bluish hue
New to Warhammer and your boys look the best and will give it a go soon. What are you using on the bases? I like that cool stone look above the black bases.
Glad to hear you’re starting warhammer with orks! Perfect choice! Thanks glad you like the video. I made a video on how to make and paint the stone bases on my channel 😊😊
@@EmperorsCrusade thanks, I'll have a look. So far, I'm painting a couple boyz while following your video and they are looking amazing. Thank you again for such a great tutorial.
Jackattack809 Oh just to get a couple of steaks of agrax onto the black and white checkers to make them look dirty. Just a couple of lines and dots will do. Cheers
Very nice, and much appreciated. I've literally just started an ork army and have no idea how to do any painting, I'm glad you showed how the different layers and shades should be applied. Looking at the selection of paints available without examples of application just melts my brain. I'll have to keep reminding myself the boys don't have to be super detailed and messy is fine when it comes to orks.
Sweet man! Thank you! Yep boyz are boyz. You’ll be offloading them from the battlefield by the fist full. Enjoy the process rather than make too much work for yourself trying to catch every detail. 😀
Yes that’s right. I open a bee pot and fill the empty space up with water. Some paints only require a small amount. Some require a large amount. I also have an untouched pot of each paint so that I can still use it unthinned if I need
Thanks bro! yeah I actually water them down in the pot when I buy them new. 😊 I generally don't recommend doing this because it's easy to get the wrong consistency and ruin your paint. but I've had many years of practice 😄 cheers!
I love the paint scheme and used the skin technique for my orks. Only thing is the skin doesn't seem as vibrant as in your video :( Still a great video, you are still my favorite for painting tutorials!
Hey! Nice tutorial. Is there any way easy way to make black to green transition in the muscles more subtle? i dont like it to be so dark, everything else i totally dig
Theodore Yansukevich I've used this on my Orks but I apply a wash of Nuln to equal parts Agrax with a bit on Lahmian Medium and it's ties the greens in nicely! Apple the wash after you've layered the Elysian Green. Could also try a green glaze I suppose.
Waiting for orks to dry, paints more orks... only 100 to go
NEVER STOP! haha :D WAAAGH!

My pleasure! Your video helped me so much painting my first W40K army. Best tutorial I have found!
Did you use some matt varnish finish?
Dude I used to buy a shit ton of useless paints never again 10 paints max
Thanks for saving me a half hour! Now I actually have time to run to the hobby store after work and get what I need!
Now doez arh some bad-ass lookin' boyz. Nice work Oomie!

Hey, great guide really helpful thanks. Could you do a guide/tutorial on the bases you used?
Thanks a lot mate! I will do next time I make some. Which will probably be for the extra 3 killa kans I'm painting now 🙂

Wow! Very Nice How to paint video! I've got like 30 orcs laying around somewhere, might actually start them now! Thanks man!
awesome man! Glad you liked it! good luck with your Orks in 8th edition 😃
So im looking at getting into 40k and learning how to paint and everything before buying can someone help me what type of brushes should i be getting if im to copy the video. Also what are the colours used for the terrain cause the road looking cork looks great.
Hi mate! welcome to 40k :) i just use the GW paint brushes.. for these models i used the medium and small layer brushes and a small drybrush :)
enjoyed your tutorial. I hope to see more.
thanks mate! more to come!
Love this tutorial mate, I used this on my Nobz and I'm really pleased with them. I'm not looking forward to painting the 50 odd Boyz I have however!
Thanks a lot man! It's a lot quicker on boys because of less detail. Don't be afraid of it. Just do a bit each day 😀
Amazing video, but can you clarify how you got the dark metal colour for the weapons? They were darker than leadbelcher even before you applied agrax.
Heya mate. Nah man is just leadbelcher with 1 coat of agrax before the brass goes on and then a second coat after the brass goes on. 🤘

That didn't help me, man. I wanted to know how to make Elysian greener, not just use a different paint.
Can you please do a tutorial on the base?
Sure can mate. Stay tuned it’s coming soon! 🤘
Love this guide! Just started getting into 40k and started with the Orks. Love the colours you used, wish I watched this before ordering the paints I did!
Awesome mate! Thanks a lot for watching and good luck with your force! 🤘😊🤘
This is the painting tutorial equivalent of Whale song. Brilliant stuff. My Kill Team thanks you
Haha awesome man. Thanks for giving it a go! 🤘
I painted an entire komando squad purple. Now i cant find them
I followed your tutorial and my orks came out amazing. They are the best models I've painted so far.
Thats so awesome to hear man. Congrats! Hope you like painting the new orks when they arrive! i know i will :)
Soothing WAAAAaaaagh ah....ah 😴....Good stuff! Wish I had all the paints to try.. time to improvise MORKAAAAAAAAAAGH!
😂😂 WAAAAAGH! Give it a shot see what you come up with! 🤘
Another question i got for you is: "How do you fill in the hole on the back of the nobz?" "Do you use green stuff or any other type of material?".
I’m not sure what you mean? There are no holes on their backs. Not on these ones anyway. Lol 👍
Okey weird. I bought a box set of nobs and they got holes on there back so that you can put backpacks and stuff like that on them. I will link you a imgur so you can see what i mean. imgur.com/a/pBYXJ. They got like holes on there backs. Dont know if i got an old box. I bought it from another seller then gw
imgur.com/a/gsKS4
ok I see. Looks like they’re the easy-to-build set from the assault on black reach boxed game. It would be easiest just to plug it up with green stuff I think.
Thank you for the answer really like your painting tutorials.
Great tutorial! Thank you very much. :)
thank you mate! glad you enjoyed it! 😃

STILL NOT ENUF DAKKA GIT
Hahah nice dude! 😂
I used your vehicle tutorial to paint my Gorkanaut !!!! I was really pleased with the result. !!! Love your style and tips. Do you have an instagram I can follow ??? Keep up the great work.
Heya mate! Thanks a lot. Glad it worked out well for you. Cheers for watching! My Instagram is emperors_crusade 🤘
Haha yeah I guess that’d get you an army on the table fast 😂
I always paint the most recessed parts first, be it armor or skin. aslong im in the base color phase there its always easy to clean up if you make mistakes. Once you go further down the line with washes and highlights it becomes harder.
The way i paint my Orcs is: Skin first, clothes, armor and weapons next. Then give everything a wash and bring the base colors back up again. then its time for highlights and done.
Good advice! I always appreciate any skills to speed up the process! Gg
Lovely scheme! Great guide, thanks!
Thanks a lot dude! 😃
These are amazing!!! Of it's real quick when you got fast forward😁😂
😂😂 thanks man
how did you base the models afterwards? your models seemed to be glued to the base while painting, how did you add the cork?
Heya mate. So I only glue them very slightly to the base while painting. Only enough to hold the model in place temporarily. Then I make the final bases for them separately and transfer them to the new base once they’re painted. There’s a video on how I made and painted the bases on my channel 🤘🤘
I dont know if its covered, but how did you do those bases? Great video, from a newbie ork player
Thanks mate! I’ve got a video on the channel for the bases 👍
Needlepoint says ur g!!
nice, but i prefer to paint mine in a way that they look amazing when u look at them up close, real close, so, much less contrast
The great thing about the hobby is you can paint them however you like mate. I paint mine in a way to look good and to get the painted quickly. My characters I paint to a competition level because they’re worth it. Have fun
Best guide I have seen so far. Best background music. Nuff said!
Thanks a lot mate! Glad you liked it! 👍
There are a lot of guides on how to paint Ork skin, but not a lot about how to paint their clothes, armor, and weapons. This is perfectly what I was looking for! Thank you.
I’m glad you’ve found it useful mate! Enjoy the WAAAGH! 🤘🤘
Sub and liked this thanks man great vid will there be any more ork related content?
Thanks for the sub dude! Unfortunately I don’t get the time to make videos anymore. Thanks for the vibes though man! 🤘
just started painting 40k minis, focusing on ultramarines and deathguard. In the future I would also like to paint some orks, I'll use your approach for painting ork skin for sure!
Awesome dude! Hope you enjoy the hobby and I hope your marines and deathguard go well 🤘 cheers! 😊
thanks! today I'll buy paints for my little Evil Sunz squad, I also have a couple conversions planned ✌🏻 *WAAAAAGH!*
This video inspired me to start painting and collecting Orks, I come back for nostalgia purposes from time to time. :)
That’s so cool that you come back from time to time! After so many years too 🤘 cheers mate!
@@EmperorsCrusade Loved your tutorials and battle reports, most welcome. :)
Thanks a lot mate! I’m glad you like the video. Good luck with the ork army! The colour choice sounds perfect! 🤘
What shower of Zogging gitz disliked this vid!? I now use your style for my Ork skin.
Hahahah haters gonna hate. Glad you like it man! WAAAGH!! 😊
one of my favourite tutorials. Thanks, man.
Awesome dude! Glad you like it 😊🤘
5 years of painting this recipe. tried MANY others. still the best. even after 5 years of getting better at painting. Every time I add to my orks I come back to this video, the first painting tutorial I've ever watched out of 1000s.
Mate thank you so much! That’s some epic feedback. I’m glad you’re still painting orks! Never stop 🤘
no clue how people paint the models when they are put together
how do you not get paint on other pieces
If I’m painting for quality rather than speed I’d paint them in pieces. Don’t paint the parts you can’t reach. Or at least just leave a wash in them like I explained in the tutorial. If someone is looking at those places and criticising you for not painting the dark depths, they’re dickheads 👍
I only copied the clothing since my Orks are red :P
Cool man. Red Orks sounds wicked!
Excellent video got 60 boyz done in 4 days with this method! was 1 day building and basecoating black ( by hand :( ), 1 day painting all the base coats on for the clothes, 1 day doing skin, 1 day finishing it all off
Woah! Dude that’s an amazing effort! Congratz! I bet they look sweet! 🤘😊🤘 cheers for watching!
Nice, I'm trying to improve my painting and just brought a bunch of orks in the collectors kit... This has given me some idea of how to do it and I enjoyed watching the video so thank you!
Awesome mate! I hope you enjoy painting them and smashing marines with them on the table too! 😊 thanks for watching!!
Loved the tutorial, I have just purchased Orks to get back into the hobby after many years away, I was wondering if you could list the paints you used?
Hi mate! thanks for watching it. one of the commenters has left a list here for people to use :)
Hi, Your Tutorial is awsome!! i liked it so much :). Could you show me what "black color" you used at first ?, i mean base color for the whole Ork ? , Chaos black or Abaddon Black? Thank you :)
Hi mate! thanks! glad you like it. Actually i just sprayed them with chaos black spray :)
you should add a list of the paints used in the video information
Your orks look so awesome mate, thanks for this!
Thanks a lot mate! 😃
Great technique, very nice tips! But the music is too calm for a video about orks, should have been loud heavy metal the entire time, even when you speak
Haha thanks man. Maximum WAAAGH all of the time 😂
You always say: This Tutorial ist for quick and easy painting.
But in the end the models look 100 Times more professional then Warhammer TV painted minis
Thanks for your helpful Videos
😂😂 thanks a lot man! 🤘I pride myself on finding a good balance between speed and quality. Thanks for watching 😊😊😊
Where can you find the model air black?
Just google ‘model air black’ 👍
Thanks for the pointers in this video. I'm still learning how to paint, but the way you speed paint still helped me out. Many thanks!
My pleasure mate! Happy to have helped in some way. Hope you enjoy painting all your orks! 🤘🤘
Hey man, thanks for the video, I followed this to the letter and they look great. Only issue is that they look really shiny now, even on the clothes. Did I use too much wash? What can I do to get rid of the shiny effect? I thought about just dry brushing the same colour over the shiny areas? Thanks mate
My only thought might be that you've possibly used the gloss shade instead of the normal one? Check the label of the paint pot. :)
I’m curious to know, for the orks you dressed in black tops, did you leave the imperial primer as is or was a base, layer or shade applied?
i just left the black from the basecoat showing and cleaned it up with abaddon black right at the end of the model.
Looks great! Are those bases bought or did you make those?
Read the thread and answered my own question, cork. Looks Nice!
Haha thanks man. 😀
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH
WAAAAAAAAAGH!! 🤘😲🤘
Awesome tutorial just starting orks myself. Are they on 32mm bases by any chance?
thanks mate! 😃 yeah all my nobz are on 32mm bases 😊
I painted 4 nobz in about 3 hours with this and they look great! Very easy to follow and the skin is one of the best I've seen. I accidentally got Coelian Greenshade instead of the athonian camoshade and they still look good, the shadows just have a slightly bluish hue
Awesome man! im happy youve found the video useful! :)
I don't suppose you remember what color blue you used for their hair?
Actually I’m pretty sure it’s Kantor blue with a nuln oil wash 👍👍
@@EmperorsCrusade Thanks.
My pleasure dude! Glad it’s working well for you! Enjoy your army! 🤘🤘
27:10 what do you mean when you say we'll just get some wash on to that?
Jackattack809 Oh just to get a couple of steaks of agrax onto the black and white checkers to make them look dirty. Just a couple of lines and dots will do. Cheers
Thanks.
This tutorial has helped me loads, thanks
Sweet dude! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤘🤘
Also awesome video, very helpful with great attention to detail thank you!
Did you pre thin the paints in the pot.
Yes that’s right. I open a bee pot and fill the empty space up with water. Some paints only require a small amount. Some require a large amount. I also have an untouched pot of each paint so that I can still use it unthinned if I need
I’m late but very helpful video
Thanks mate. Enjoy painting the new releases!!
phenomenal work man really great job!
Thank you mate!! 🔥
I now paint my orks the exact same as you do
Awesome! I’m honoured! 😊
Taken a break from Orks, but back at them again. Still my favourite tutorial for them 🥰
Glad you’re back! Thanks man 😊
I'm a glaze painter takes me 40 hours to paint 11 boys i suffer with the price of perfection
I envy you having the patience to paint like that.. i've become less patient in my late 20s.. :)
Awesome
What colors would you use for a brighter, more vibrant Green?
Thanks mate. Probably would head for the basic greens like waaagh flesh and Warboss green. I think that’s how he paint their Orks. 👍
This is awesome. I will copy your method on all my orks and point whoever asks towards your channel! ;)
Alin Dindareanu Thanks mate! Glad you like it, and good luck with you horde! 😀😀
Wow that's nice and simple! Thank you! By the way you don't water your paints down?
Thanks bro! yeah I actually water them down in the pot when I buy them new. 😊 I generally don't recommend doing this because it's easy to get the wrong consistency and ruin your paint. but I've had many years of practice 😄 cheers!
I love the paint scheme and used the skin technique for my orks. Only thing is the skin doesn't seem as vibrant as in your video :( Still a great video, you are still my favorite for painting tutorials!
a bit late but this is due to his lighting probably. it could be a matter of things. As an Ork player I wouldn't aim to copy someone else's Army.
Thank you so much for this! I have wanted my orks to be darker than the usual light colours. This helpped a lot!
Awesome man! Glad you found it useful. Have fun painting your hordes! 🤘
I'm thinking about getting some orks now. This tut made it look so easy. Well done mate!
Great news dude! Thanks for watching 🤘
how you make the bases looks great ^^
Thanks mate! There’s a tutorial for the bases on my channel. Take a look 🤘😊🤘
Very good tutorial, I like you style. I suggest to add list of paints used for each part o miniature in the video descritpion.
G'day man! Thanks a lot! 😀 indeed that would be helpful. I'll add one in
love the paint scheme! I have a similar scheme but for death skulls so with a bit of blue but i may adapt bits because I love this guide!!!!
Glad you like it man! Love to see this adapted to Death Skulls. love their blue features!
Hey! Nice tutorial. Is there any way easy way to make black to green transition in the muscles more subtle? i dont like it to be so dark, everything else i totally dig
hi mate! thank you! 😊 yes, you can leave out the athonian camoshade and work straight up from the deathworld forest base
Theodore Yansukevich I've used this on my Orks but I apply a wash of Nuln to equal parts Agrax with a bit on Lahmian Medium and it's ties the greens in nicely! Apple the wash after you've layered the Elysian Green. Could also try a green glaze I suppose.
I prefer the dry-brush method of highlighting the muscles of a figure.
Sweet! :)
love the tutorial! what size base did you use? 32mm? and how did you attach the nob to the cork? just hotglue, or with pins?
Thats right.. 32mm :) i just pin them into the base on each foot and superglue them into place :)
So when you paint the model its attached to the unpainted base.. So how do you remove it
