Two thumbs up. This level of quality is exceptional. Suggest the maker's autograph and year of creation be signed in a discrete internal location so that future generations will know who made this piece.
Ha, I've got a whole bunch of floor board that turns into projects as well! Thanks for the inspiration for a place to put my multitude of fountain pens.
Some very clever construction steps. #1 "rout" out the grooves for the inserts before cutting the sides rather cutting then routing each separately - this ensures better alignment accuracy. #2. Cutting the lid timber first then sticking it using 2 sided tape back onto the side timber to reunite it back onto side timber as 1 before cutting into separate pieces at same time of doing the 45 degree mitres remembering which cut left or right for each end #3 using hot glue as temporary hold when gluing up the sides. I have not tried that before - I tend to use quik cure CA glue in the joint surface as well as normal glue for long term stability #4 measuring the sides of the drawer whilst pressed up on the inside of the case & holding them there for the glue up of butt joints to ensue a snug fit #5 tape mask the Perspex lid to protect the surface Nice case without using any fancy finger or dovetail joints/rebates. Just 45 mitres case corners and butts for the tray. Plastic tray inserts came out of the blue but you had 3D printed prior. ..sneaky The wood defects at back of the lid and RHS you didnt cut out at the start but you had filled in the final product. at 3:05 you had your thumb over it then seen at 4:45 and 4:53. I would have thought it might had been better if that section of the timber was rejected initially. Ross Fine Woodcraft
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Perfect craftsmenship! As a founten pen lover (and maybe a collector in the making... 👩🏻🦰🤞🏻✒) I adore these amazing boxes! Thanks for sharing your great talent with us! All the best! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love this wood working book *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . A few of the topics talked about in the book include wood working strategies, explanation on the development cycles of trees, and various lumber characteristics that craftsmen favor. I also provided my father another copy.

Wow!! You're a very talented fella. I'm going to have a go at it myself, but I'm not going to hold out much hope of it finishing like yours! Nice job though mate.
Beautiful job. Neat ideas for the drawer. Hot glue holding mitered glue ups is something I never saw before. Question: Do you only use mortising chisels? Seems like a lot of the chisel work is with them.
This is probly a dumb question but I was wondering how you make or if you purchased where you purchased the actual black lined piece that the pens are actually resting on. I don't even know what it would be call but it just looks like a piece that been grooved out. Thank you for you time
Totally not a dumb question, I couldn't really figure out what they were called or where to buy them either! So I actually ended up using CAD and then 3D printing some to the size that I needed. I Then used spray adhesive to cover the top one with some upholstery leather ( I couldn't do the bottom one because my tolerances ended up being a little tight). So yeah, I feel your pain.
an alternate idea that I do is to use some16mm thick HD or MDF craft wood. Using my router 16mm bull nose TCT bit and route out 10-12mm deep channels with 2-3mm separation between. Use a router jig to get the accuracy. Apply flocking powder to prior lightly glued surface . ua-cam.com/video/PJFjorzlI3k/v-deo.html to se how it is done. Works well - different colours available. gives a velvet type finish.
Very nice! Id love to build one just a tad bit bigger for some of my lock collection! I may have to try my hand at making one but im a beginner wood worker so I dont know how well it will turn out. Thanks for the inspiration ! keep up the great work !
I have let some of my woodwork colleagues know about this site [Link Here== *TopFineWoodworking. Com* ]. I was especially awed in the wake of experiencing the outlines and plans that were incorporated into the bundle. This is the best item for any woodwork devotee and shed manufacturer out there.?
I didn't get any footage of it unfortunately, but I designed the pen trays in CAD and 3d printed them, then I used CA glue to stick the upholstery leather to them
Since I read *TopFineWoodworking. Com* , I think nothing will ever surpass it as an outstanding woodworking book. The book consists of attractive images as well as drawings and also reader-friendly text. I consider this book a "must have" since it supplies a broad range of information on just about everything working with woodworking and does it quite well.?
Thank you. Haha this was a Christmas gift to my Dad, who collects old fountain pens. Unfortunately I couldn't borrow any of them when I filmed this video without tipping him off to what I was doing and ruining the surprise. So I used sharpies as place holders because a they're similar size
Where did you get the tray inserts?

This is amazing. Kindly share the link for the 3d Printable stl file for the pen tray. Thank!
This came up great. You should remake it using nothing else than hand tools. :)

Didn’t see how u made the inside leather liner.
I didn't get any footage of it unfortunately, but I designed the pen trays in CAD and 3d printed them, then I used CA glue to stick the upholstery leather to them
i need one of these
Super cool ♥
Everything but the pen holder construct. Left out the most important part. Boxes are boxes bit few old pens.
If you have the equipment you can make one but ohh boi I'm excited for my jinhao 250 that has an 18karrat gold plated nib
bruh it is just plated and costs like 20 bugs but it is still a very beautiful pen 😂❤
Who is Bob?

Awesome...
Good work, but demands so much equipment!
*does not have material and tools*
Sold.
Glad you liked it!
So beautiful box, but not for Sharpie's and Pelikan's. This piece of art deserves something better...

Oh! Hahahaha. What a beautiful gift.
umm, pelikan make some of the best and most expensive pens...
What an ignorant and out of place comment.
