- Our new Southerly 480 sailboat is ready for the water! Distant Shores III is transported from the shipyard to Saxon Wharf to splash creating havoc with the traffic in downtown Southampton. Then it snows! The mast is stepped on the boat and Paul carries out a traditional Coin Ceremony for good luck on upcoming voyages.

Congrats guys, that is just fantastic! Fair Winds :)
Thanks very much Delos-crew. We admire your work. Perhaps Distant Shores III will catch up with SV Delos in the Caribbean somewhere. It would be great to do something with you guys!
Distant Shores TV
I really hope so.
SV Delos is my inspiration to reconfigure my current land crab settings 😁.
I should be happy enough to have the luck too live in Sweden in the summer and migrate to Thailand 6 months over the winter. But hey, I’m human and striving to improve 😎
Ohh, if you ever start to complain about the heat on your journey, than just look at this vid and recall that you wanted hot co co instead of chilled Champagne. That will cool you off😁.
Interesting though, they missed to tighten a (very) important plug 😳
Also, I would never imagine that a new boat would be delivered in winter time😳. But hey, it’s all about experience 😉.
Fair winds
Congratulations , I know you're very proud , and She looks to be shaping up , to be a beautiful vessel ...I know she is anxious to serve you well .. Fair Winds and following Seas.... May God's grace be upon her.... and all that sail upon her...
Thanks Braavos for those kind words ❤️
Wishing you fantastic joy from the Canaries ,and your father would of been so proud in you holding up the traffic in Southampton
Beautiful guys. Great to see her in the 'mess' of commissioning since you will be maintaining her and you will have a great idea where thing are and how they run. Cheers and congratulations on DS3 from PEI, Bryan
Fair winds Distant Shore lll - beautiful
What a lovely boat.. I love how light and airy the interior is... :)
Beautiful boat. Fascinating to see how the mast is held.
Awesome to see the process! Thank you.
Fantastic!! Enjoy!
Your joy is obvious! Looking forward to your many wonderful voyages.
That was awesome, thanks for sharing!! Beautiful boat, once again congratulations! 😍😍⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
So excited for you guys, Paul with all that accessibility inside the boat I am sure you will have lots of jealous sailors out there!!!!
The journey continues. :)
What a cool looking sailboat. Southerly does a great job with their design.
Congratulations! May your sails always be full.
I bet it smelt soooooooooooooooo!!! Good!!!!! Nice love that feeling of something so new and amazing.
Love the video, always wonderful to see and know the hidden bones of a boat, future maint. Much easier with the knowledge
Beautiful, looking forward to the future videos!
Congratulation! It was nice meeting both of you this weekend. Safe sail and good luck with everything.
LOVE THIS! Thanks for sharing! I really love the different ideas we "boaters" bring to the building process. This also reminds me of the 1970s when I wanted to learn about boats and worked in NO LA USA at Youngs yacht sales and boatyard for about 3 years. We built all of the NY 40s (sailboats) for the NY Yacht Club. It was one of the top boatyards in the USA. I started out doing bottom jobs (and operating the hoist / crane) and worked up to driving our 18 wheeler and yachts cross country. I drove the NY 40s from New Orleans LA to Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin for a custom interior and then picked up the one I dropped there on my last trip and took that one to Rowayton Connecticut to drop for the NYYC. No rear wheel steering. I had to jackknife the trailer at 90 degrees and then spin it on a dime to work it under the travelift. Then I would drive to Tampa Florida, pick up a big 40 or 50 ft Yacht (Endeavor or Gulfstar etc) and take it back to New Orleans LA. About 4,000 miles and 80 hrs of driving wide loaded (the boat was high and wide at the top and super long with the mast hanging over the tractor and off the back of the trailer = lots to look out for) and then I would do it all over again every 2 weeks. O. J. Young now has a place around Houston TX still doing boats. Ahhhh now you too can understand some of the memories this video brings back for me.
Thanks for sharing this experience with us. From one proud Canuck to another! Cheers! That is one fantastic looking vessel!
Absolutely beautiful boat, Paul. Can’t wait to see April’s video.
Thanks Thomas ❤️. We're looking forward to April too!
Absolutely amazing boat. Fair winds and following seas.
Congrats guys! So exciting! Warm sailing is just around the corner
Thanks Craig! Yes we're looking forward to sailing her soon...
Yes. The ceiling technique with the removable panels, etc. Very good!
It is a wonderful boat with a beautiful hull, and having already been aboard I can say that the interior is luxurious. You are both going to have so much pleasure sailing on her. Congratulations!
Congratulations on your new and beautiful boat. Fair winds!
I’ve been waiting for this video for what it seems like forever! I can’t imagine how slow time went by for you guys till the day you were able to lunch her 😃
Thanks SV Gitana! Yes we've been very excited and are now really stoked to get aboard to sail in April!
Welcome to our British spring weather. Love your awesome boat btw
She is awesomely beautiful....inside and out !! Discovery does great work! Thank you Paul for taking the time to shoot this video.
Thanks Paul. Glad we managed a little bit of weather for you, just to make you feel at home! What a boat! Congratulations to you and Sheryl! Fantastic job by Discovery Yachts too. Lucky for me I have been invited to have a little tour this coming Thursday, really looking forward to that. Thanks for all your wonderful videos. We are all looking forward to seeing the final commissioning and then your continuing adventures of course. With fair winds and following seas, though DSIII will handle much, much more I know. Good luck to you both.
"Woo - Hoo", all the best, Congratulations!!!
cant wait to see this beauty sail!
The English sure know how to make sailboats, she is a beauty.
Congrats!
Distant Shores III is fabulous!
Thanks Kia❤️
Thank you for sharing this exciting moment with us!!! How appropriate she was first christened with snow- very Canadian!
Thanks E - yup it was colder in UK than in Toronto that day I think :-)
Congratulations guys. Love the more candid nature of this video. You seem more at ease and if feels less staged. Love the attention to detail Southerly have done to the headliner. I’m not sold on the relays, over standard three way switching, but can’t deny the added convenience. Bring lots of spares, but I know you two already know that. Can’t wait to see the shakedown cruises. Fair winds.
Fabulous boat, it must be very exciting being this close to being ready to sail away.
She’s a beauty 👍👍👍
Thanks Paul!
What a beautiful boat! A big congrats to both of you! See you in the Pacific!
Great filming. Thanks
What a great boat ,congratulations!
What a fascinating video - thanks for sharing Sheryl & Paul. Your heart must have been pounding through these final, critical stages of commissioning Paul. Could the weather have been more challenging? Quite a sight to watch. I knew she is a big yacht, but this was the first time I truly appreciated her size. Most impressive! Fingers crossed for all involved that the project continues to go smoothly and we see her under full sail soon. Best wishes, Gavin & Amanda.
Thanks Gavin and Amanda. She sure did seem large squeezing down country roads overflowing the side of the truck😅
Paul, this new craft looks GREAT! Eager to see how she sails. Congrats!
Fantastic! Distant Shores III is beautiful, and I'm looking forward to your video of the shakedown cruise!
Thanks Mike! Yes we'll video the shakedown for sure!
So thrilling, you lucky lucky man. Good sailing.
Never heard of the coin under the mast before, stepping mine soon so will follow suit. Very exiting watching a new boat being commisioned.
So beautiful!
Awesome. Long way from Two-Step. Looks like a sports car. 👍👍
Thanks guys - She sure is a long way from Two-Step :-)
Impressive yacht already.👍
Nice video, she really is a stunning boat.
Beautiful boat. Congratulations. Thank you for the detail in your videos and sharing the launch. Felt like I was there freezing with you. looking forward to seeing where she takes you.
Paul and Sheryl, this is a beautiful and fantastic boat. I am so happy for you , I can’t wait to see you navigate again soon.
Me and my husband will certainly want to see the Southerly 540, and we hope they will present it soon (maybe Next Düsseldorf ?).
Congratulations again and Buon Vento from Italy....
Awesome!
Congrats!
Completely fabulous Paul! Can’t wait to see Cheryl too on board! Till then cheers 🐨
Beautiful yacht. Looking forward to Day 1 of sailer her.
Congratulations! And I like the new vibe to your vids.
A lovely boat, it really did get cold for the couple of days you had - I visited the yard late last year and was very impressed with their build approach and quality. Really looking forward to your future voyages!
wow she beautiful, love how the interior is fastened like car door panels I think we will be pinching that idea when we refit my friends boat. looking forward to seeing your adventures I'm hoping this year will be the start of mine.. Namaste 🙏
Congratulations, she's amazing
Congrats on a successful launch.
What a dream, those lines are gorgeous and the wrap around window almost looks like sunglasses or something. Reminds me a bit of a cartoon eagle like from the Philadelphia eagles on the side profile, very neat!
Can’t wait to see her next month!
Beautiful boat
Congratulations on your new boat and it's launch. many happy miles and smooth sailing to you.
Thanks Stephen - fair winds to you too!
Congrats, great looking boat. Don't know if you remember us, we were dock captains at PCYC when you were building 2 Step. Andre & Helen. Following your travels here in FL. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing
Fantastic boat - Congratulations! I look forward to following along with your adventures on it. Gotta admit though I was amazed that the thru hull fitting was incorrectly installed and that there is 'room' for a coin to be installed under a mast. Great video and I can't imagine outfitting a boat with 'all the stuff' an ocean away from home. Safe and smooth travels to you and yours. Have fun!
Killing it on the edit love the music 🎶 💕 saw your video alert and I thought to myself aghhhh it’s chill time
Thanks James! Glad you like it!
Brings back memories of my own boat that I built. 48 ft loa Cotten steel. Aluminium mast. Sold her after a couple of years but sailed BC waters in Canada.
Great video love to see the process of the commissioning.
Glorious!
Incredible to me one of the most beautiful sail boats, good luck to you on your journeys
Thanks for the kind words Cliff...
great job !
Looking forward to getting you all back on the water.
Veleiro maravilhoso, desfrutem com muita saúde, bons ventos e excelente navegadas.
Congratulacion.
Congrats again. Great to see the steps along the way. Julie and I head to Denmark next week to do the handover of our boat. We met you two at the Dusseldorf Boat show as our boats were next to each other.
Thanks John, and congrats to you too! Have a great time!!
looking good
very beautiful boat.
Congratulations! She is beautiful and your christening ceremony, without Sheryl, was slightly sad with the frigid cold. Perhaps a "redo" in warmer climes!
congratulations on a successful launch - your video production techniques are looking much more modern - well done
She is a beautiful boat... congrats
Thanks Morris!
Good Luck!
That is a beautiful boat
Great looking boat
Ah that new boat smell!!!!!
good on ya mate... see you on the water someday.
stunning yacht
Really nice boat.. Congrats
Thanks, Jeckmarie!
Congratulations!
YESSS!!!
Beautiful boat. The English are still wonderful craftsman.
Congratulations! Suggestion for upcoming video: make a technical episode and just go nerdy nuts with it. You know you’re going to anyways, so when you walk/crawl around as you inspect every inch of that beautiful boat, let us come along. Make it an hour long, I don’t care. It could also act as as teaching moment for what to look for during a new boat inspection. Thanks!
Thank you George :-) I'm definitely planning more tech/nerdy stuff :-)
Paul, you never fail! Long live the nerds!
I never heard of this coin ceremony. Would love to hear more where this originates from. Congratulations on a beautiful new boat!
Thanks Randi :-) Yes the coin ceremony has been around forever (we've done it for all four of our boats) but didn't know the origin either... apparently it originates in ancient Rome!!

Well it's an amazing story and I hope it brings you and Cheryl much luck. Looking forward too your in April!
Beautiful boat. Great lines. BTW, I do have a 4K monitor and have enjoyed your 4K episodes. All the best.
Wishing you the very best of luck from Malta.
Thanks Georges - we love Malta ❤️!!
SOOO Jealous, it's such a beautiful boat with all the fixens. Safe Sails ahead EH !!
OMGOODNESS!
She did hopefully the longest journey travelling backwards😕
Hope that she didn't get 'land sick!😀😁
Will now continue with the video👍
Agreed I thought she looked wrong backwards like that
@@DistantShoresTV, What's interesting is that since she was moving through the air, she was more aerodynamic with the stern facing forward. Aircraft wings have the larger rounded surface in the front with the tapered pointy part at the back. Truly more efficient that way. Oddly, hydrodynamics is very similar to aerodynamics so I've always wondered why boat hulls aren't shaped like wings. But then look at the shape of a keel! Is rounded in the front then narrows and tapered in the back.
I suppose that cutting through waves is more easily done with a pointy bow. Scott W
Wow this is splendid news! Can't wait to see her next phase of commissioning and then getting her underway. Let me know if you need a hand... :-)
Just catching up on a bunch of your videos, some many awesome episodes mates.
Thanks Eric! Perhaps we'll catch up this winter in SXM!
