Matriarch owner here. A few distinctions I feel like should be made about this application: 1) The VCA must be on for the external instrument input to work. In the video, notice how the VCA Mode is set to Drone (so the VCA is constantly on), and all of the oscillators and the noise source are turned down in the mixer. If you're playing in Amp Envelope or Split mode, the guitar or external instrument will only play through when the ADSR cycle of the VCA is going. In other words, you have to be playing a key or running a sequence for the guitar to also make sound. You can dial in the oscillators for drones or a chord progression sequence while you're playing, if you like. 2) There is no volume control in the mixer for the external 1/4" Instrument In jack. Matriarch provides +20dB of gain. 3) Even with all the oscillators and noise source turned down in the mixer, I found that there wasn't a lot of headroom when I plugged in my guitar. It distorts very quickly. The best use of this Instrument In jack is for clean, gently picked notes, as shown here in this video. 4) The filter and delay does sound REALLY good with a guitar run through it. ;)
@@Art-zs6sl If I remember correctly, the headroom thing is the same in any filter position. But yes, you can get wah-like sounds. In fact, you can plug in an expression pedal to the rear panel and route the control signal to the filter CV input to replicate wah pedal action.
Question: Is it safe to run the headphone jack into the external input? I've seen it done with the Behringer PolyD or Model D for an even thicker or distorted sound. Is it possible to do it without any problems? Like is an eternal feedback loop dangerous?
Just got my Matriarch the other day, can't wait to try this! For now I've been spending all my time just experimenting with the oscillators; haven't even touched audio in!
Amazing music, better yet created on the spot. What's also amazing is 30 years ago gear sold music. Now it's music selling gear. "Best effects pedal ever!"
I'd like to order all that's needed to accomplish this, sans the guitar. Will you please reply with an Anderton's shopping list. Unit & cables, et al. Thank you kindly, SM
Unfortunately the VCAs must be in drone mode with all the oscillators turned down for this to work. However there is a trick where you open the filter and enable keyboard tracking, and you can play using the filter instead of the oscillators. Not sure how well that works in conjunction with this trick though.
It's funny cause I've seen really talented people noodling around like this and coming up with some breathtaking shit... this on the other hand sounds exactly like what you expect noodling to sound like. I feel like if the guitarist was playing something with more of a point to it then maybe the knob twiddler could have found some tonally or texturally interesting things to go with it. Instead we're treated to something equivalent to when the blues guy sits down in a guitar store to experiment with a modulation/delay pedal and confuses "spatial" with "aimless".

Seems like a bunch of hassle for a BBD. Is it possible to get the wah like sounds or is that where headroom becomes a problem?

thanks for this insight. so basically you can't play the moog normally AND have an external input (e.g. a drum machine) at the same time?
@@tendingtropic7778 nope

You just made a thousand guitar players jealous with this video
I need that delay in pedal format! Please Moog, go for it.

I really really want a video of a real bass plugged in the grandmother !
@Jack Schitt Sound insanely good
and did you find any great video with a bass plugged into the Matriarch or Grandmother?
Yeah! ACE! Nice playing Jack! Great patches Alex!
Best pedal ever !
Well whaddaya know...It’s Mylar Melodies (aka Alex)! Congrats on getting the Moog gig.
Nice! I've been messing around with playing my piano through the Summit. Little resonant filter sweep piano action.
Syd Barrett would be proud!
Damn that sounds beautiful.
Excellent...i feel that this live sound is so warm...bands lose the idea...some of this sounds like Andy Summers meets John Martyn.
3:37 sounds like something from Flume
Awesome! Please tell us how you patched it!
So dope

Can you run vocals through a synth?
That's so cool 😎😎😎🎸🎸
Ahhhh that was yum!
What are the yellow patch cables called which allow multiple pass-thru?
Stackable patch cables
Or buy an Immerse pedal. Slightly smaller footprint.
Sounds great .... a tad expensive as a guitar pedal ...... but possibly worth it :-)
money is overrated
cheaper than buying 2 Moogerfooger MF101 and MF104M pedals
lol
Owner of a matriarch, can say it is more than worth the money. You’ll be mind boggled for at least a month figuring things out. Is fun
get a guitar to midi converter and then you can really play it thru the synth as if it was a keyboard
Is king
Slowdive is listening..but seriously (sub-moronic question here), can you play the synth while you're fx-ing the guitar? Cheers.

@@Breisler mutable instruments Ears has a gate out from audio function which would work well here.
connect a bass plis
A £2,000 effects pedal…………………Must be a Strymon !!!!! ………………..No it’s a Moog
I don't have a guitar and I can't even play guitar, but I need that synth :)

Baby sound
In short.., use proper pedals.
there is cheaper delays available on the market...
Please don’t pollute this video with your poverty mentality. Thanks.
@@kgreggbruce1552 haha
yeah but do those delay pedals come with a paraphonic semi-modular moog synthesizer?
are you really that dense?
