The Matriarch is so much more worth the money in terms of features and capabilities compared to the ridiculously overpriced Minimoog Model D, that’s for sure. It’s a really fun instrument to experiment and play with, you can get some insane sounds out of it. I’m so glad I have one.
You’ve officially advanced to my top five favourite synthesizer review channels, due to your knowledge, humour and ability to actually play those things :)
Great video, thank you! It is so refreshing to have someone for a change who not only knows how to use the gear but who can actually play and make music.
Formant sound on a Matriarch. Cool! Thanks for teaching this old synth dog a new trick today! I have my effects pedal patched into my cutoff filter which adds to the fun.
Lots of reasons to pity people who don't love music and synths, but one of which is such unfortunate people will never truly appreciate the superlative quality of everything on Alex's channel. Jaw-droppingly good. Bravo and thank you!
I have these, and separately they are wonderfully complex. Put them all together, and you may as well order takeout and lock the door. Remember to stay hydrated.
Finally! WOW! Now all we need is a video on the score for the original Tron (pretty please...?) like you did for Terminator 2 and Escape from New York...
I actually have sheet music for it somewhere. It would be quite epic to work out but perhaps... Do I get one of those light bikes as payment? It's one of my terms.
In the last few days i've watched like 90% of your content, and It all started with a couple auto plays. I've been subbed for a little while, a couple of your "History of" videos caught my eye, but YT auto playing a couple "Music from" videos a few days ago dragged me in. Really top shelf content, and you are just a fantastic musician/artist. Thank you.
I love your compositions, experiments, videos, and overall way of being in such a major way. You're a true treasure in the noble pantheon of great synthesists
"I'm not weird, you are". Now look here, that's quite a sophisticated statement which leads me to the conclusion that there's more to Alex Ball than synth guy. Thing is that synths must regard humans as very strange beings; couple of preseumptions in there. Okay so back on tac: terrific vt. I've just listened via phone via hifi and the synths sounded dreamily good.
Outstanding video! You really get what the Matriarch is all about. I have had one for a couple of years and every time I sit down to it (which is daily) I am both amazed and pleased with its capabilities. And I really liked how you demonstrated how well it plays with others. This feature allows me to use the Matriarch to tie my studio together into an "orchestra" of synths. It is sublime! Thank you for this video!
Duuuuude, I was starting to think u hated Moog. I skimmed all your videos and I ain't never saw any moog references. 😭😭, I cannot wait for a Moog retrospective 🥺🥺
As soon as anyone mentions the word 'Moog,' My fingers go straight to the like button, which is a shame because I wanted to add another like for the opening ditty and another for the video! Thank you for uploading this Alex.
So odd.. I was looking into the matriarch today! Your channel is my fav on UA-cam by far by the way.. perfect balance of synth love and education and comedy and great music
I think the Sound Studio was the one I had more fun with, which was surprising as I was dying for a proper go on the Matriarch. Perhaps the Sound Studio is just that bit more unconventional. I could jam with it for days.
Oh man, this is a 'bleeps' 'bloops' and noise shot fest. Very interesting and informative. A fantastic array of demos. Thanks for taking time to set up and present them to us.
That intro song was spectacular and the explosion at the end fit perfectly. Finally Alex on Moog's, I haven't got the opportunity to have fun with the Matriarch so your video give an idea of what is capable and as always excellent video. Claudio (Dr.Mix) in your production team? LOL!
Best intro I’ve ever watched in all synths videos, no one knows how many times I kept repeating and laughing. It’s so lovely, really love the vibe hahaha
That intro was funny as heck!! Nice job!!!! BTW, the Matriarch is a very nice sounding synth. I really love what you did with the Sound Studio. The sounds you squeezed out of those little units are amazing. You now have me interested in the Subharmonicon and Mother 32!!!
..you already got me with the intro! ...released in ´78, still immedeatly falling asleep listening to radioactivity, doomed as my early "go to bed" song. i am building my first modular system based on system 55 by behringer, i think this channel ist what i was looking for ..thanks in advance!
Really cool seeing what you can do with some Moogs. Great stuff on the Matriarch and the Sound Studio seems to be right up your alley. Awesome as always!
Crikey! How did I miss this gem Alex? Let's see... Moog and Roland analog modular, and some creative Alex Ball compositions.... instant must watch!! 😁 Funny how this came up for me right now too. I'm literally, at this moment, putting together a portable rig that will double as a live performance rig and an expansion to my studio modular. This portable rig contains my M32, System 500, System 1m, Keystep Pro, Launchpad Pro, RME Fireface UFX and my laptop with Pianoteq 8 Pro, REAPER and a few other VSTi's, my Yamaha NP31 and Korg Wavestate. I just took a break for a meal and watched this awesome creation from you Alex. Great stuff my friend!!
Fantastic synth, the Matriarch. There are free software editors available, which can be used via USB to change the settings and avoid the clunky keyboard combinations. They work very well. Moog should definitely release their own editor anyway. Great video, as usual. Thanks!!
Would u like to share that 1:25 Matriarch sound? That 'talking' sound. I can't see the settings clear enough. Don't have a clue how you did that one! Enjoyed this one a lot.
Right, that does it. You win my award for the best channel on Nixi.., I mean, UA-cam, along with The Kiffness and Melody Sheep. Hilariously brilliant intro mate! (Sorry I'm two years late but I only discovered your channel last week.)
Moogs + Alex Ball = YEAH! I clicked on this so fast my fingers exploded. Alex, you're a legend - everything you touch turns to gold. I've seen a few people struggling to understand how to use the Subharmonicon in particular but you seemed to get to grips with that sound studio in no time at all.
I've got a little Phatty. I already can not believe how many Moogs you have! You must be a dealer of some sort. GREAT JOB BRO AND NICE INTRODUCTION SONG. YOUR THE FIRST VIDEO EVER ON MY NEW MACBOOK PRO
This is my first view of your content. I really appreciated the way you conducted your review. Thank you, you have a new subscriber and a thumbs up from me.
I really like your musical parodies/genre pieces in some of these videos Alex! I think you absolutely nail them and bring an immense amount of fun and energy to them. Great work! 😊
You are the most British person.
🤣
*Bri'ish
Gave em a bloody good ribbing he did . A proper chap . Cheers .
what ho! he is most correct Sir
UA-cam's hidden treasure. Still PMSL with pr0n groove guide videos....
Don't know what I expected for the intro, but wow that was breathtaking
I watched it like 3 times before continuing with the video xD
The intro was unexpected, but he sounded happy to finally get a Moog in the studio.
The Exploding Whale 🐳 !!
Intro was pure gold
Breathtaking might be a positive reframe. It did indeed make me have trouble with respiration. I kid, I kid! I loved it.
You're an internet treasure, Alex.
i´ll second that,-
Thanks both!
+1 to that!
Guarded by an internet dragon, or buried by an internet pirate?!
@@GizzyDillespee careful with that axe, Eugene !
This moving picture makes me feel jolly good randy in my trousers! Top notch synthesizer coverage ol chap!
Superb patching and playing Alex!!
So happy to see some Moog in your studio!
Wonderful work as always! ❤️☀️
The Queen hath spoken.
🙏
I love my Matriarch. Sits wonderfully in my set-up and compliments everything so well. It's my Platonic ideal of what an analog synthesizer should be.
You're not weird, you're awesome.
And weird.
Or better yet, weirdly moogsome. With some analog grunt at the bottom end.
Weird *is* awesome :P
The intro is brilliant. I sense an homage to a certain body part song from Monty Python.
Gotta love a bit of Python.
The explosion immediately triggered me to watch the “how not to be seen“ sketch.
I was ready for "And now for something completely different" at the end of the intro.
@@Sturzi Exactly what I was thinking!! :D

LOL . . .that opening song almost sounded like something the Bonzo Dog Band would do, great stuff. Great demo, thanks.
The Matriarch being a "modern/future classic" is a hill I am prepared to die on.
Everyone says this about the synth they like😂
Me too. A masterpiece.
well you probably aren’t gonna die since I don’t think many people would fight you on that.
Deep.
I got one recently its incredible!
You’ve officially advanced to my top five favourite synthesizer review channels, due to your knowledge, humour and ability to actually play those things :)
Just watched this a second time, and one thing is clear: BEST INTRO EVER!
Great video, thank you! It is so refreshing to have someone for a change who not only knows how to use the gear but who can actually play and make music.
Five years of synth content and I still can not get enough! Great job Alex!
That Matriarch song was incredible
That explosion... And now for something completely different! :D
Great stuff as usual :-) Moogs sounding great in the first place then the patches and grooves are what we come here for.
Does sound ace straight out of the box. I decided to make that part of the video
Those are the most musical demos I've heard from modular gear! You are a true synth hero
Cheers! They've very musical synths, they really are.
Best intro ever! Your video has definitely pushed a Matriarch further up the top of my wish list!
Best intro on UA-cam ever!
Formant sound on a Matriarch. Cool! Thanks for teaching this old synth dog a new trick today! I have my effects pedal patched into my cutoff filter which adds to the fun.
That intro!😂👍
Went a bit Moogy Python didn't I.
What better way to end an intro than with an exploding whale.
As someone who grew up surrounded by anachronistic records I have to say: your grasp on early 1900s music is seriously impressive!
Lots of reasons to pity people who don't love music and synths, but one of which is such unfortunate people will never truly appreciate the superlative quality of everything on Alex's channel.
Jaw-droppingly good. Bravo and thank you!
Thanks for the smile Alex!😁

'No idea mate' is a lifelong phrase of mine upon first meeting my first English person. You've used it well. Not that you need it, but I approve.

Ah great! Thanks
Absolutely incredible video Alex. Loved this one!! Well done mate.

Your demos definitely got me interested in the Sound Studio stuff. Seems like a very versatile and fun to use setup. Also - I love the intro :D
I think the Sound Studio was the one I had more fun with, which was surprising as I was dying for a proper go on the Matriarch.
Perhaps the Sound Studio is just that bit more unconventional. I could jam with it for days.
The Mother 303 part was my favorite one, very AFX reminiscent.
The mother 303 demo was soo sweet, I can go on an listen to that one for hours

Come for the singing Moogs, stay for the end credits HAAAAAAA!
From the first intro jam .. wow .. the sound of these instruments!
Why has this only just appeared in my recommendations? Well, thank the synth gods that it did (in the end). Great Vid Alex.
Your uploads are a genuine joy - thanks Alex!
The most beautiful thing of the song is the final explosion. (Is it a compliment?)
I feel like you channeled your inner Numan on that modular track. Loved it.
That intro... 🔥🔥🔥
🐋💥
The intro along was worth the price of admission!
The whale and explosives were quite expensive actually, I'm way over budget.
@@AlexBallMusic Were you able to get the petunias cheap?
Got a deal with the local flower shop. They know me there.

This is the first video of yours I've seen. That intro is the best thing that's happened all week, so unexpected and delightful :)
Fantastic.
I bought a Subharmonicon from a friend a few weeks ago and have been playing with it for hours. It is a strange and fascinating beast.

Brilliant stuff. The stereo on the first synth was mind bending even on my phone speakers
That's a good sign of a quality synth.
I was in 300$ earphones and it blew my mind.
This is the absolute best intro to a synth vid ever! 😄

Wooo! What a great video! 👂🤩👂. Thanks Alex 🙏😃
the moog-ro composer track was really nice, loved that one. thanks for the vid!
I owned a Moog Subphatty for 3 years, standing in the box, then I sold it. Today Arturia Midikeyboard and 680 VST.. Great channel and videos!
I like your attitude of "if you'd like some synth you may aswell concider" while reviewing like the most expensive synth out there

The melody of the "stereo split synth" is beautiful. (And thanks for the subtitles in the song, for a non-native speaker they are very useful :P)

Excellent stuff, what you did with the Matriarch sounds great
