I Stayed in a Hmong Village Sa Pa Mountains 🇻🇳

- ■ SA PA, VIETNAM: As I stepped off my bus upon arriving in Sa Pa town yesterday I ran into a Hmong woman by the name of Mama Zee who said she runs a home stay in a tiered rice field in the mountains about 4 hours walk from town. I took her contact details and the next day we journeyed through villages and mountain paths to her family home.
Going to the bus station on a daily to find tourists who wants to stay at her Sa Pa Homestay is a time consuming and more often than not futile endeavour. Let's help her grow her social media presence so she can find foreign trekkers and homestay guests more efficiently.

I’m so glad you took this woman up on her offer to go trek
She’s so sweet and hardworking
We loved seeing her and her family.
peoples in her age have no chance to go the school, but the way she speaks is very influently. I would learn from her. love your video.
@@xyzzyx4323 How old is she? If her age was mentioned in the video, I somehow missed that part. She looks like 30-35 yrs old, kinda pretty lady. I enjoyed to listen her stories about living in the mountains. Such a sweet lady ❤
She’s very friendly. Her job matches her personality, she enjoys talking to people. Nice family, everyone is happy
Married !
I honestly thought you were about to fall into a tourist trap when you met her at the bus station and I was so wrong. All she wanted was to show you her village and their way of life which is truely beautiful and magic. What a place and so alive. Nature, animals everywhere and all the people are so friendly. They are really living their best life up there. I hope you visit her again some day!
Yep, it's a pretty well known saying not to trust anyone that walks up to you on the street but this just shows how that (not necessarily unwise) pessimism can often lead to you missing out on incredible experiences in life. There's no scam or ill-will involved, just a genuine human being trying to make a living for their family.
Certain cultures have a scam mentality, south-east Asia generally has people who want to just do an honest day's work to make ends meet.
We can all learn from Harald, always give people a chance until they prove otherwise. You can ask about the price in advance and try for a couple days. If you are not happy then stop. For people from small town, there is not many ways to advertise their business, and the best way is to talk to potential customers like she did. Harald is really nice because he doesn’t judge people when he first meets them!!
Now that's how you travel. In Hawaii our tour guide invited me to his village, where we smoked pakalolo, and ate pig. Wouldn't recommend it, but local spots are a hidden treasure, at least in HI, glad I did!
1:12:10 What a beautiful family. They can still be happy with what they have. These are the kinds of people that deserve the world.
@@Heroesworkshop agree, I wish more people in America could watch the videos to see how easy we have it and maybe they stop whining about frivolous things.
Thing is they already have the whole world, they have what they need and what makes them happy.
Lmfao, the faces they made, very powerful indeed xD 🍻
Over the years I've watched you help countless people and seen how generous you truly are. Not only financially but also with promotion and knowledge. It's a shame that real life and humor has to be edited. The world has gotten too sensitive. I'll watch this every time you have to upload.
❤
Wowow great Family, they are really nice people. And you also ❤
Mama Zee and her family are absolute gems.
Beautiful family - Mama Zee is a warrior goddess. She has what it takes to make the homestead succeed.
Hard working kids.. mine are always on ipad...
@@yourdad7887 They are truly experiencing being alive. This is the way. It teaches.
@@jacksondrake-lost like we were in our generation.. I'm not to old only 35 but there was no mobile back then..so we can relate
@@yourdad7887 You are the dad and in charge to change your kids behaviour !
Real people living close to nature. Not an easy life but look at their faces, their smiles. Thank you.
This is so cool and enjoyed watching. I am Hmong myself. I was born in Laos during the Vietnam War. But living in the U.S. now. Both my parents also came from North Vietnam (migrated into Laos in 1945). Thank you for all your videos.
Goin to let this video play on 4 different devices, 4 different accounts, UA-cam being unfair. Mama zee, did that whole video with a smile. Amazing family
No matter how many reuploads , we stand with you brother.
That's right!
But not for a 4th time plz
Yeah, what's going on?
right 👍
Skål på det! 🍻
I just checked, 150 million dong is slightly less than 5K USD. I’m sure we could come together to donate the extra money she needs in order to finish her home. She seriously deserves it.
As a 2nd generation Hmong American, it was very interesting watching where I originated from and how life could’ve been for me if we haven’t immigrated to the US during the Vietnam war in 1975.
Thank you for sharing your adventure in SA PA!!
A really interesting comment, thank you.
I know many of your people were settled in Sheboygan Wisconsin. Such a cold place. It would be nice for you to visit your ancestral home.
I wondered why the H'mong always live on the mountain which so hard =not in touch with civilization society
She very honest and hardworking woman. She has to walk along way everyday up and down that narrow foothills to get tourists for her home stay business. Such a sweet and beautiful family. Thank you for showing us how life is like in the village🙏
Nice video brother..I am Hmong from the USA...Very proud of this sister.
So much texture, height, depth, detail, humour. This is the best film you've ever done, visually, affectually, narratively. When you quirkily do a cultural, historical, human-relational deep dive like this, it never grows old. Like a good story, one can watch it again and again. Thank you for this!
Thanks, enjoyed the indigo plants
I was wondering if they were indigo plants. This plant is so beautiful. And so wonderful to work with. I loved seeing cotton fabric change colors over time in a bath of indigo. I really miss fabric dyeing classes, they were so much fun, I learned alot.
Thanks! 🙏 your morals are strong, never change
I was mesmerized by the scenic view of Sa Pa Mountain; it's incredibly peaceful and beautiful. Mama Zee is simply the best; she's remarkably humble, kind, and hardworking.
She wore her best dress just to pick you up... respect ❤
Harald this is one of your best vlogs, i felt guilty after having a bad day at work until i watched how hard the young lady and her village worked , she was awesome with her knowledge and stamina up and down those mountains, the scenery was wicked, i wish i was able to do it but hey ho too old now. I do hope she will be rewarded , thanks Harald, brilliant vlog.
Mr. Harald Balder. Thank you for staying in this home stay to help this poor couple in Vietnam. You are a friend in need. You are a friend indeed. From London, England. I visited Vietnam long time ago Great country to visit and cheap.
I'm playing this video on my laptop AND television for 2 views!! Never give up Harald. Cheers from Toronto!
Guys, this video is one of the best videos I have seen in a long time from Harald. I could have watched another 2-3 hours of this and absolutely love these type of adventures that showcase the country side culture and how they live. This reminds me of his original Vietnam videos from years ago that were my all-time favourite videos that he has made. Way to go Harald. Harald approves!!!!!!! :)
We love it when you go out into remote places like this and talk to normal hard working people. It's so educational and interesting to see different perspectives. Don't give up Northman.
I am Hmong, and I love being Hmong. Not a lot of people know about us.. I feel like we are the "indians" of the asian people. We are not after money like most other Asians but rather a peaceful and spiritual life is much more important. It's all very ancient china. Thank you for sharing our culture!
Look up the "secret war" in USA. We made sacrifices and fought with the USA in the vietnam war against our own communist Asian people for better rights/life, some of us made it here to the United States, most others died in the process even after the war we were then considered "traders" (never betray asian people they are crazy in the head) and were killed. The sacrifices of our ancestors then allowed us to live a new life here in the USA, and now USA is our home. *Cheers* to justice and the light!
I have watched all three uploads for the same video. And Mama ZEE makes me cry. How hard working her family is. Just a genuine humble man meeting genuine humble family. Cheers Haraldo even if I don't drink. Thumbs up from Nepal.😁👏👏👍👍
The village's remote location and peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal escape for those seeking both adventure and tranquility. Whether you are trekking through the lush green hills or sipping tea by a warm fire in a traditional wooden home, the connection with nature and culture is profound. The experience leaves a lasting impression of the Hmong people's resilience and unique cultural heritage.
The world needs more people similar as this good heart 10:00 lady and her beautiful family. This is the best Viking channel
I will support them all Harald I got to know Kumar and his wonderful family because of your videos really nice people even spoke to you from Nepal you work very hard to bring these treasures to us thanks very much keep them coming 😊
Man… I am a big admirer of your videos Haraldo… No one makes videos as organic as you do, bringing up the stories from any place on earth, no matter which country, how remote…. I can’t express how mind blowing your videos are to me man… And most importantly I love the way you are kind to the animals, help them whatever the way you can, you are kind to everyone you meet on the journey, help them. Keep it up man..
I can’t skip or stop until the end once I start with your videos, no matter my busy schedule, never regret watching…
Harldo putting in the real work and not chillin' in hotels. Keep doing this stuff and you're going to go through the ceiling.
What wonderful people and such hard workers. The distance that she travels each day to try and get people to stay at her house is commendable.
I was in a bad mood when I could not find this video, thank god you reuploaded the video.
Awesome video Northman. Mamma Zee's smile absolutely lights up the room. What a special lady.
Harold!!! I’ve been watching you for a long time. So glad you made it to see the Hmong people.
This is much better than luxurious pubs , bars Vietnamese nightlife in Cities where tourists waste their money. Great experience! Unforgettable memories! Beautiful nature ! Lovely mountains people & their life , full of adventures ! Wow !! Wow !! ❤❤😮 Thank you herold for showing us . 🙏 🤗
If you go to VN
Stay in the cities 2-3 days - then head to the country side. Very sincere people. The real Vietnamese culture is very interesting. Very conservative family oriented.
Yeah, no shit eh. If I'm going on vacation, I want quiet and calm.
Man! This one is the best video. Real life of unknown mountain village.
Watching for the third time with gusto, helping making Mama Zee homestay have more visibility. Commendable work Northman, greetings from Guatemala.
I went to Sapa in 1993 and went walking down by the river with a friend. We met a couple of young Hmong women, one with a baby on her beck. We spent about an hour there looking at each other. I had an English to Vietnamese dictionary but we couldn't use it as they didn't even speak Vietnamese. It was a weird situation. We were on a small foot bridge going across the river. I was talking to my friend about them and they were talking to each other about us. It was all very friendly and eventually we said goodbye. It's a good memory and I still have some (old style) photos somewhere.
Thank you for Visit Vietnam again, as Vietnamese i feel so heart warming when you released it again, it will help people around the world know more about Viename tribe life. Wish you all the best and success in created content, support Harald all the time. ❤❤❤ from Hanoi
I'll watch every reupload, don't care. I'm gonna let it play it on my phone, TV, PS5, tablet, smartwatch, washing machine. Outrageous!
Appreciate that 🙏🏻
What a marvelous place, what a wonderful family, indeed. After drinking moon shine you seeked and found the other moon shine. There are a lot of bamboo plants in Vietnam and Indonesia, but I never saw any bamboo house. But in the Philippines in barangays (probins, or villages) most of the houses and shacks and resort bungalows are made of bamboo. And the 'happy plant' is one of the most useful plants (for humans and the environment) on the planet. The fabric and clothing made of this plant last forever and no bug ever dares to come near them. Thank you very much for sharing. Regards from Canada.
Cheers, I miss B.C., Quadra Island, Tim Hortons and Canadian Tire. Have a good day ehh.
We have a huge hmong population in my state. They are wonderful people. Hard working family people. The Olympic gold medal gymnast is hmong, sunni Lee. She's from my state MN
Your original Vietnam series got me hooked on your channel. The path less traveled seems to always be the most beautiful and your work is proof of that. Thank you kind Nordsman for the adventures.
What a totally lovely person Mama Zee is - hope she gets loads and loads of customers through this
Thanks for taking the time to put this video together. Had a great time joining you
Amazing place with beautiful sceneries and a beautiful people.Thank you Sir for sharing to us the beautiful nature of vietnam i love it!Hope you will enjoy exploring the wonderful places of the village.Godbless you👍❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🇵🇭
I’ve been traveling for the past day and just arrived in São Paulo, Brazil and I’m sitting in the lounge right now watching the great Northman.
No politics. No advertisements. Beautiful nature. Hardwork.
Great content! Good to see other ethics showing love to our Hmong people. We're all over the world. Thank you again for showing me & my family of other Hmongs in different countries! Peb yog Hmoob Meeka 🇺🇲
One of the people i’ve been subscribed to the longest. Staying real. Love it! ❤
I'm just couple of minutes in, and I have to say the quality of the content as well as image clarity is astonishing. The lightning and sharpness in scenes like 09:05 fascinating me.
Generally it's really nice to finally see some locals in non-touristic areas capable of speaking some basic english, where deeper dialogues can evolve. Loving it.
Been watching you for many years now and so happy you got to meet my people ❤️
This incredible Northman masterpiece gets better every time I watch it . I suggest everybody watches at least three times minimum . I'm taking the day off just so I can rewatch all day without any distractions to reach a heightened state of Northman Nirvana 🙏
I love that this beautiful Journey started with a random bad bus ride ending, i gotta rewatch Mama Zee's first apearence, she is amazing
I am trying to find that bus ride too!

@@IchDuForeverExplorering thank you
I was born in the Caribbean and i am in love with this place, Not as mountainous but the country side and the farming i am familiar with.. one day ill visit this place
I did a trek to a Hmong village from SaPa in 2008 and always wonder how the awesome people there are doing today. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I'll go re-live through my photos.
Or revisit
We have many Hmong residents living in Minnesota and Wisconsin. They grow the most beautiful flowers and vegetables for the local farmers markets.
Miss Zee seems like a rock...what stamina and what a motor. This is one of my favorite travel videos so far Harald! They may be poor but they are so rich with a quality of life most people will never experience
Thank you for taking the time and re-uploading the video so many times Harald!
Cheers, it's pork o-clock for me now good sir.
Norwegian Gognoster having deep conversations with porks , showing beautiful Vietnamese village .how much a layers and stories are there inside of a person.a simple girl guide on the bus stop, has such a beautiful and a universe of stories and layers behind her❤❤❤
Im at home in NZ but have just experienced a trip I could only dream of
Thank you Harold you really are the best
Have not travelled anywhere yet but seems like the best experience comes with meeting the locals, having dinner with them and most important ! Trying the local drink with them ❤
she is an amazing person
This family is chilled. They deserve much better and more happiness in their lives.
AFEW YEARRS AGO I WATCHED YOU IN VIETNAM I HAD BEEN TO ASIA MANY TIMES BUT NEVER VIETNAM. I WENT A FW TIMES NOW IM GETTING MARRIED TO A GIRL FROM VIETNAM. IM SO HAPPY, IM FROM TEXAS A FEW HOURS FROM WHERE YOU WERE DURING YOUR HOG HUNT. ENJOYED THIS THANKS VIETNAM IS AN AMAZING COUNTRY
Haha
Congratulations on the VN girl- I have a similar story/ she lives with me here in Arizona now.
Harold, please keep trying! You have been able to help so many people by doing some of the hard stuff that some of us can no longer do. And we have been able to share minutely with you because of your videos. Carry on!
i can watch this again and again, no matter how many reuploads
Harald the special jello dish dinner with Rice Wine 🍶 looks good. I’m sure you were appreciative for their hospitality. Good family.
Watched this video for the 3rd time & liked it. Hardworking woman like mamazee deserve more tourist. Hope to see mamazee doing great in future. Great work Harald!! 👍
These encounters and the sharing of your format with others, is what makes your channel special.
WOW. thank you for taking us on this journey and showing my family what it really means to have a home. thank you and be well.
Alot respect and love for my friend from delhi , india becoz wherever u goes u don't forget India 😊
Sad that you're having all these issues Harald. And a shame for this lady not being accepted by the UA-cam algorithm. I really enjoyed the first upload. I don't understand how people can be offended of true village life. Where all the animals have a quality life, way better than the misfortunate once ending up on our supermarket shelves. Also hemp is used all across Europe and the US for all kinds of products besides smoking. What's the difference? This sort of forced sterile environment on here is just so artificial it sucks out all the interesting fun parts. Anyway, keep going and don't give up 🙏💪❤
That’s a true Homestay! I hope it doesn’t change much for tourists.
Least we can do is to lett this video run a few times, on the background. To support Mama Zee👍🏾
What a beautiful person Mama Zee is. Salt of the earth. Was lucky enough to go to Vietnam once but would love to have had this experience.
We Stand With Heraldo, its been 3 times i watching video. Promoting homestay tourism business by poor family, but got any shameful reaction by youtube algorithm. It just terrible policy by youtube. Hope the best for mama zee family and you heraldo , im so thankful to see this such experience
Three hours of walking ..that sounds fun ...the views of the hills ..the national vybe from the people...love from jamaica 😊
Never comment usually on your videos. But I’m a big fan. I enjoy travelling through you. It’s a great way to unwind after a day’s work.
So I’m commenting to help get this video some traction it may miss out on, because of the issues you laid out.
Go well, Harald and Mama Zee!
Edit: also, because you’ve explained how the algorithm works and how comments and likes help, I’ll be commenting more on your videos!
Just another great video that young women and her family are a joy it’s so good to see how other people from around the world live cheer for that.🙏🙏🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻👏👏👍
I will happily re watch for a third time as this video is amazing I enjoy all the different types of videos you make but I do have a extra love for this style of video you make it just feels so natural, the people who feature in it are so cool. such a cool insight into another part of the world.
Its nice to see something diffrent than typical turist places all the time. This is what makes the content super. One simple want to go discovery new places when watching. And the kindness for the less fortunate is a great example for people. Beste reise bloggen 😎👍
Hello Harald. This is very first video of yours I've watched and what a cracker💥I love seeing other cultures and how they live. The magnificent scenery blew me away, incredibly beautiful. I especially enjoyed learning about how they make and dye their clothing. Facinating. I'm an instant fan of your channel. Mamma Zee is a dynamic woman and I wish her good fortune in her ambitions. If i could afford to travel I would love to visit her! Well done Northman❤
Mama Zee is such a great character - so real smart and relaxing - One in a million - Thank
WOW The girl so chill. She speaks english so well. More video like this
YES! A third opportunity to stand with Harald and Mama Zee!
Commenting for the algo, it is an outrage, but if you upload this 10 more times, I'll watch, like and comment 10 more times. Mama zee and family deserves it
The "ROOSTER" cover up had me dying 😂😂😂
Team original content xD
And the Weed Plant 😄😄😄
It took me way too long to realize why he did that 🤦♂
I think it even makes it way funnier 😂
Whats the original voice before cover up?
Lemme watch it again for the 3rd time . Idc whether it's the same vedio or not. Love to see their village , the people, everything . So refreshing to watch this series and gives me peace every time I watch it. I might have a blood relations with those Hmong people who knows.
Man! This is a so lovely family, i was able to live among them forever!
I appreciate you reuploading since I can't always watch when a video comes out. Harold is the best and I love his humor.
Nice...that you show how local Native mountain farm live and their live environments.👍👍
Recommend get a long wet cool tower/cloths water and wrap arround your neck in hot day walking up hill-prevent from dehydrate. Nice video 👍👍
I'm delighted she was genuine and it turned out to be a great vid.
Just throwing a comment in to add to the traffic. Amazing people Harald. Your contribution to their life will be felt for a long time. What a rich and full life you live.

Mama Zee is awesome and she has a wonderful family. Thankful to see a really great glimpse of their lifestyle through your great video Harald! So many doggos, they like you, haha!
What a sweet gal especially putting up with so many dumb questions. His heart is in the right place.
