Choice of oil filter: As long as you stick to the manufacturer recommended (very conservative) intervals, I don't think it really makes much difference. I suspect that even a cheapy Fram will work. 02:17: 5 mm Allen key. 04:51: 31 lbs.-ft. is too high. Final drive drain specs for the same size bolt into the same type of aluminum casting is 17 lbs.-ft., a much more reasonable spec.
The FJR is one of the best spirit touring motorcycles out there. I feel like they really hit their strive after the 2014 when they added cruise control, riding modes, etc. Have had mine for over 17k miles with no issues. Thanks for watching!
IV owned 2 FJRs 1300 Yamaha the 06 and the 012 models the only difference IV found is the heated grips on the latest model the 012 my first FJR the 06 model had 164000 KMs without any issues I really do love these bikes
Good comment, in the words of Mr. T, “ I pitty the poor fool”. It is a wonderfully engineered powerful sport touring machine. Smooth responsive, comfortable and timeless. Happy to have picked one up last summer and looking forward to my trip to the Grand Tetons and Mt. Rushmore.
@Nav32562 If you bought it for the reasons you just mentioned, you won't be disappointed. That is one of my 2 current bikes and I will never let go of that bike unless I get a new one. Good luck and congratulations!
I also have a beautiful Kawasaki ZRX1200R and took it to Glacier NP but with a full pack, camping, gear, photography equipment and the rest I realized I needed to step up. The Zrex is fun in the Mountains and canyons, however the FJR will provide for so much more on the long journey. Ride safe brother!
Typically of the oil filter was vertical it would be easier to put any amount of oil in the filter. That’s what I’ve done with other motorcycles. Thanks for watching!
When I owned the FJR I would do it with every oil change (5k miles) but you can do it every other oil change. It didn’t take much time, hence why I did it at the same time as the engine oil

Very true! Going to pin your comment for future viewers.
I feel sorry for those who don't know about the FJR1300. It's one of the finest machines ever made (IMO).

The Yamaha FJR1300. Thank you to Hiroshi Komatsubara and his design team for giving us this perfect(okay, near perfect) machine.
A little more leg room wouldn't hurt, that was my only complain during my ownership.
@@jdbmoto I’m guessing you are more than 5’10” then. At 5’9”+, it’s great for me.
I like the k&n filter, easy to put on and to take off! Great video BTW
One of the main reasons to go with K&N
Getting better and better!!
Thanks bud! Putting a solid effort with these videos. Everything looks so simple until you do it :)
Maybe it is possible, to fill up a bit the oil filter, before putting it in, so thre is oil from the start? thank you, good video man!

You should upgrade to a set of HID bulbs. I have a 2009 FJR and it made a world of difference. Plus it looks 100% better.
That’s in the works, what brand did you get? I’ve read mixed reviews, but better lighting is a necessary upgrade
How often do you change the final drive fluid?
When I owned the FJR I would do it with every oil change (5k miles) but you can do it every other oil change. It didn’t take much time, hence why I did it at the same time as the engine oil
You forgot to mention to always use new washers for the oil drin plugs.
It sure gives those vibes.
For the new oil filter I've been told to pour some oil into the filter prior to reinstalling back is this a preference of do or don't ?
I typically do that on my car since the filter is facing up when installing. Having the filter screw sideways it wouldn’t work as it would spill.
thanks awesome job
Glad you found it helpful
I can never seem to get the correct Crush washer size for any of my vehicles. Could you share yours-guessing it’s a 17mm
Thanks for watching! Final drive or engine?
@@jdbmoto good point. Definitely engine if you know final drive that would be fantastic thanks
Full synthetic 4T is good
As long as it meets the requirements it’s another good option.
Sweet ride :D
Thanks for watching! Easy to ride and maintain is a win in my book
@@jdbmoto I am looking and someone will join the fun :D
