  • John Deere 2154D with a Waratah 622b harvester. Check out this dangle head processor cutting, limbing and stacking logs in one smooth motion. Mechanical poetry in motion, it is fascinating to observe what a competent operator can do with this equipment. The John Deere 2154D with a Waratah 622b harvester is a potent combination that can process an amazing amount of logs in a day.
    I love watching these machines & especially with excellent operators like Barry here. As much fun now as imagining it in the sand box 45 years ago!

      @lovesloudcars  3 роки тому

      Yup. It's cool to watch operators who don't have to think about it, it's just an extension of their hand.

      lovesloudcars I was just thinking what pure beauty it is seeing someone so good at his job that he treats it almost as a form of art. It’s actually kinda inspiring in this dreary world

    Can run any trackhoe, but not that attachment😄. That makes light work of what we use to do on the ground😵. That guys gooood👊. Thanky for the share, like that spruce👍

      Ya it's cool hey? There's a few machines that are just plain cool, and always fun to watch running.

      The tricky part is swapping between machines where the controls are different hey? That last video I was loading that small birch with my truck was fine, but the next day I was driving gravel truck loading myself with a 470 John Deere hoe. Got a lump of frozen dirt on my side boards & obviously the boom & stick controls are different, because when I got within about 1 inch of moving the lump I moved the wrong hand and deftly pulverized my 2 x12 sideboard!

    Good you got some firewood put up, doesn’t sound like it’s going to be any heat wave this weekend.

      That's for certain nasty cold and a bunch of snow. Got the driveway cleared with the bobcat, time for popcorn and a movie with the family.

    Do they process the logs at alpac or Piece River? I can’t remember, I know Slave lake and Hinton also has a couple plants but they were osb when I was there last

    • @lovesloudcars
      @lovesloudcars  3 роки тому

      There's also a spruce lumber mill and OSB plant in High Prairie to the North East, as well more East to Slave Lake too. This spruce went about an hour south to a mill just south of Fox Creek to a lumber mill there & the poplar went further south to Whitecourt ( about 100 miles 160 km away). (lots of trees in the Peace country & lots of options). There's 3 mills around Grande Prairie too. I wish there was a market for the trash left over. Hog wood or something for a power plant.
      Looking at buying a chunker form Poland to try and make use of some of it. Videos to follow no doubt..

      @@lovesloudcars yes it’s a shame to waste the stuff that’s leftovers or sure I worked in the mills in Grand Prairie as well but wasn’t aware of the whitecourt mills worked at the sour gas plant there years ago there wasn’t much fo a population then but I’m sure it grew quite substantial since then, I’m interested in seeing that chunker unit though im enjoying ur content thanks

  • @davidrubin1895

    That cutter head attachment makes small work of processing. Exclusively for lumber? Does waste go to a pulp mill

    • @lovesloudcars
      @lovesloudcars  3 роки тому +1

      Crazy cool hey? so fast and efficient. A nightmare to repair though, pretty technical. This stuff all went to a sawmill not far away about an hour's drive.
      The wast doesn't go anywhere just piled & burned, which is crazy to me. there's got to be millions of tons every year that just gets piled & burned every year. It's quite a shame. Going to be a bit different here though. I think we're going to buy a wood chunker form Poland & process as much as we can of it into firewood. I'll NO DOUBT be sharing some videos of the machine when it arrives. It will not be normal firewood, but much shorter that can be handled with a shovel & will cut up everything right up to the tiny branches & tips. It will burn well in my outside boiler. Just need to figure out how to handle & market it. (once again a LONG reply...)

    • @lovesloudcars

      Pretty crazy how many controls it has compared to a simple digging machine. This spruce all went to a lumber mill about an hour away. the poplar went further about 100 miles & the birch I hauled home!

    Why wouldn't you build your deck in front of your tracks if you weren't cutting pulp? be a lot faster

    • @lovesloudcars
      @lovesloudcars  3 роки тому

      Not sure. I'm guessing that you have to have space to work between the deck you're pulling from and placing the short wood where the tops and branches fall. Otherwise he'd be working out beside the pile further away from the operator's view? I'll send him a text and see if he's got other reasons
