Ghanaian pidgin is actually a mixture of broken English and words from our native languages. Monica keeps using the word 'Asey' which means friend, mostly said by people from Sekondi Takoradi. I'm guessing that's where she is from. Also, I'm sure you have heard the word 'Chale' which also means 'friend' in Ghana, from the 'Ga' people. Anyways, I'm enjoying the video. : )......Thumbs up!.
If I'm not mistaken, the lady may be from Tadi! This assey assey tins de3...lol Shank is poopoo...mostly used in some high school... It's funny tho Pidgin is most common among boys tho
In Ghanaian pidgin, we use over 20 popular Ghanaian languages mixed up with big English vocabs ..The girl is trying but I think we need a guy for this!!! The girl is actually a novice!!
@Jiggy One bros no talk like that na. I speak pidgin like say tomorrow no dey and "chow" is not it. Use google na bros. No dey do like this. I grew among ruffians, I know wetin I dey talk
@King Kai which Ghanaians have you been hanging around?... Our pidgin is SOOOO distinct from Nigerian PIDGIN. yes some word are similar but trust me... It's not the same
@King Kaiwhich slangs and terms are you referring to? The Hausa population in Ghana is significant enough for them to have influence on our culture. Many Muslims in Ghana regardless of their tribe know the Hausa language and have it as Parr of their culture. oh... Personal attacks on someone who has a different opinion than you. Classic move there. Anyway... I am both Nigerian (Yoruba) and Ghanaian and am well versed in the nuances of the two cultures. There is no bigger culture vulture in Africa than Nigeria. And it's fine because you guys tend to create bigger awareness to movements due to your population and sheer loudness. But claiming Afrobeat, Ghanaians have every right to as the term was not popularly used until Fuze ODG started the TINA MOVEMENT, Guess what he is Ghanaian. Highlife music that Nigerians love so much started where? In Ghana. This is just an example of the many things Nigerians loudly claim to be theirs but Ghanaians have always enjoyed as part of the culture before they became sensationalized by afro diaspora.
You are talking pidgin and you pick a youruba. Go pick someone from the South South, thats where real pidgin is spoken without too much influence from local language.
Charlie Ghana do ALLLLL!! It'll take u a high level of intelligent quotient to speak Ghanaian Pidgin .. For Nigeria, everybody can speak pidgin but GHANA, only the Young Intelligent ones can speak or MA GHANIANS, I jaiv??
@@ekinematics I never said that.. I was talking about Ghanaian Pidgin and how it's being spoken... In Ghanaian pidgin, we don't call things such as:"Food" as ' food' but "Choda or Cho"..Another example is "Night time" We don't call it "night Time " but " GBEKE" .....which are compilation of both Ghanaian Languages and English language mixed together.. It is for this reason that I said it'll take you a higher IQ to speak or understand Ghanain Pidgin... As for Nigerian Pidgin, it's very simple for everyone to speak.. If you are interested in Ghanaian pidgin, I would recommend these two movies for u.. It's a series though.... #MASTER AND THREE MAIDS ##YOLO (You Only Live Once) Thank you!!
@@brukznelsonjnr7420 Well, in Nigeria pidgin differs a little depending on the city you live in and your circle of friends. There is no standard hence you can say anything and its correct. Slangs and addition of local dialects are abundant, though addition of local dialect is common in the SE and SW of Nigeria. Eg food can be called several names in Nigerian pidgin depending on your locality and group of friends, it needs no intelligence because once you are from that area or familiar with the words used amongst a clique you are ok. If you go to the SW of Nigeria you'll hear more of Yoruba words added to their pidgin, same if you go to the SE you'll hear more of Igbo words added to their pidgin. The SS (Places like Warri, Benin, Port Harcourt, Yenagoa and Calabar) speak the purest and undiluted pidgin, but even in the SS people within a circle still use slangs only they understand. Nigerian pidgin is simple because it contains lots of proper English words, that needs no explanation. Once you get the noun and the verb you are good. In Nigeria pidgin does not need no intelligence.
@@ekinematics Wowww so glad for the explanations but I'll be so glad if u try watching the series I recommended for u in order to feel more of the Ghanaian pidgin!!!
