  • Short overview of the upgrade from the Walbro 255lph pump to the 525lph pump. Since we knew the Turbo was going to need more pump I chose the Hellcat in tank pump, w/Hotwire kit and -6 feed and return for now.

That does look like a pretty easy swap. I'm looking forward to seeing that first burnout on boost.💪

On the wire. It’s important to run a good wire from the front to the back. The longer run of wire you have the more current and voltage drop you will have. Think about how thin the wire is on a fuse....but it’s short and the current passes through it just fine. That short wire is fine, and if you stripped it back you’d notice it’s thicker strands and a pretty heavy duty wire for its size.

Hoses are like tires, sometimes it sits on the shelf a good while before it is sold/used. That looks like age cracking (dry rot of the rubber covering).

10% ethanol fuel was very bad for fuel system parts. Even if auto parts were built for it, they would have lasted longer without 10% ethanol. Many old Nissan engines had an unusual fuel injector design, and E10 made a bad problem worse. I'm not sure what California had in their gasoline, but the Nissan 300ZXTT was made until 1996 and had injector problems. It was another reason why those cars cost a fortune to repair.

Skyline Fever The hose I used is a commercial grade fuel line made by Eaton. My friend Richard has the same line and his looks good no cracking seems weird. JD

@@HeadFlowInc Wow, that is really rotten luck.

I think or hope the line is ok for now, I’ll definitely update both the fuel line material and size when I replace them. Eventually I’ll be swapping the 4.8 build for a built 6.0 setup with 1000+ WHP which will require more fuel system.
I agree, I have all the luck, Richard has the exact same hose on his Typhoon; his looks great but his is always stored inside in a temperature controlled garage. JD

Yeah I can see your concern with the hose looking so worn. It's almost like it's having some sort of negative reaction to the fuel. Not a bad idea to replace it before it gets any worse

Run Earl's ultra pro fuel line. Plugged up sock filter is probably broken down rubber from the cheaper rubber hoses.

We found out the Eaton hose we are using is e85 compatible but the small piece of hose connecting the pump to the hangar assembly is regular fuel injection hose needs to be replaced. I will look into the Earls line when I upgrade to the -8 lines! Thank you JD

So jw… how is it a “hellcat” pump? It’s just a walbro pump…

    • @HeadFlowInc

The fuel pump is 525 lph pump made by Walbro specifically designed for the Hellcat Charger engine. Or 707 hp supercharged engine body style doesn’t matter. So, it’s referred to as the Hellcat pump, if you want just buy a 525 lph pump from Walbro. Walbro warned me to be very careful trying to buy off eBay etc because the 525 lph is knocked off by cheap imitations all the time. I paid $217.xx straight from Walbro JD

It’s such a short run of wire that the amp draw to the pump won’t impact integrity of the wire

LASKA Good to know, it was a huh moment when we noticed the wire size. Thanks for watching! JD

My thought on that dirty sock would be the fuel line deteriorating and being fed back through the return line. I was surprised to find after only a couple months the color of my clutch fluid because of a cheap hose up to the reservoir. Did you drill out your turbo oil feed restriction hole? If so, what size? I didn't shim my oil pump so think I might go a little bigger than yours even though its a similar size journal bearing turbo.

I was thinking the same thing fuel return line...

Good catch, the fuel line wasn’t sticky or soft but it has to be the source. Thanks ! JD

I agree the black in the sock has to be from the piece of hose on the pump or it’s the Easton fuel hose I’m using breaking down?
I’m not running a restrictor inlet fitting on the Turbo. I’ve found contradictory information on when it’s recommended to run a restriction. I thought you were only supposed to restrict ball bearing turbos but maybe I’m wrong? My oil inlet adapter is full -4 internal diameter, I hope I don’t have issues with a smoky turbo!
Good question I appreciate the support and hope you follow along and ask more questions! JD

Just go to PTFE lined hose. Avoid Cheeto eBay hose, get quality brand hose like Aeroquip, Fragola, Earls etc.

Does your truck have a charcoal fuel canister ? , might be a source for fuel sock contamination
