I feel like Hot Pursuit was the true of definition of need for speed for me, the feeling of driving fast supercars in an open world while running from the cops was a great combination.

This game glorifies what no other nfs ever has: the cars. From the extra videos & voiceovers, to the ignition sounds (which you can do in game, it allows you to shutoff your engine!), to the incredible graphical and sound quality, it makes you fall in love with these machines. It's also no surprise how most if not all of the cars present in HP evolved to be timeless art pieces irl. I really miss this amount of detail in today's games, the only one who puts effort into car detail now is Gran Turismo, a shame truly.
Great video and observations, most people gloss over these details 🙏

Thank you for being one of the only YTers that actually acknowledges the existence of the games before the Underground series - it is laughable how many members of the community outright ignore them, and this is even worse because these are the people the devs listen to. These days, I'm really starting to think that allowing customization beyond paintjobs was a complete mistake for the series. HP2010 and Rivals really were the last of their kind to carry the original SPIRIT of NFS, even if both of them had a good amount of imperfections.
I hope that Criterion DOESN'T listen to the UG and MW crowd for once, and instead makes another game like HP/Rivals, or even maybe a remaster of one of the first 6 games in the series. But I think the answer is already set in stone to be the opposite.

I keep saying that Most wanted 2005 *is not* the best game in the franchise. Why? Because Hot Pursuit 2010 exists. To sum it up:
NFSHP is *150% pure adrenaline. With 25% chaos ans 25% skill* and its is super fun. I constantly play events like *hotting up, unreasonable force, blacklisted, hunted, calm before the storm, etc* for my direct injection of *adrenaline* ! And the cars. I have *fallen in love* with them. Most notably: the Gumpert Apollo S in the police side. 0-360 km/h in 10 seconds. Even the idea of *multi class hot pursuit events* like super series cars below $150,000 vs speed enforcement units above $300,000 or special respone units vs exotics from start to finish!
    *Oh the fun*

Hot pursuit was always the og. I remember my first game being the mobile version from 2010(?), and hearing Conscience Killer and Nothing from you was always hyping me up everytime. By the time I got a PS4, I got rivals next because it itched the same spot the mobile HP did all those years ago. And then I bought the remastered to come full circle. Even after all these years, nothing felt different and that's a feeling I treasure the most.

You're spot on with describing the backdrops and scenery of Seacrest County. Even though some people complained about mountain cliffs, beach paradises, barren deserts & redwood forests within spitting distance of each other. I just didn't care because of how masterfully crafted it was.
It's something that Forza Motorsport 3 & 4 also did a great job with when it came to their fictional tracks like Fujimi Kaido, Rally di Positano, Camino Viejo de Montserrat & Bernese Alps.
Black Box also did a pretty good job with this with their open worlds like Underground 2's Bayview, Most Wanted's Rockport, Carbon's Palmont & even Prostreet's tracks.

      @saadhasan2518 5 місяців тому +6

NFS HP2010 along with Rivals are my favourite NFS games. The feel and aura of HP2010 is something that hasn't been recreated to this day, drifting a Sesto Elemento and then instantly hitting turbo on the straight is just satisfying as it is always hearing Edge Of The Earth on the starting screen, Criterion literally achieved perfection with this game considering that this was the last great NFS game at all grounds. This is why I really love the fact that EA chose this to remaster it. It easily brings back alot of those memories.

  • @epicdude3659

i mean, technically, there is an upgrade system, but it only applies to the pursuit tech, and the upgrades just improve it, theres no extra shit added on to them, Spike strips get longer and you can deploy 2 at once, EMP's do more damage, Turbos last longer and give more boost. Helicopter gives it more fuel, more spike strips, and the ability to follow the chase even when theres a tunnel, and so on.
i'm not trying to change your point, just adding a little detail

17:38 fun fact about the “cinque” they used for promotional material, it was actually a Zonda F that they stripped and made into a cinque using custom made pieces. So “realistically,” unlike going around turns at 150mph sideways, the NFS edition cinque is just a Zonda F/Roadster F.

When you were talking about the simplicity of Hot Pursuit 2010 and how it's not overwhelming with many things it made me think of Most Wanted 2012. Hot Pursuit is definitely THE game that marked my childhood. I remember when my dad had just bought a ps3, bringing me this car racing video game. I remember going slowly and being afraid of the police in my very first gameplay, but the next day, proudly telling my dad how i had managed to win a race for the first time. And then started an endless cycle of hours upon hours of playing, I think I should total about 2000 hours on this game including the remaster.
No other game has felt as homely as the sheer brutal racing action this game offers, and it’s to this day what i look out for most in my games.
Because of the lack of upgrades it’s definitely the best multiplayer in recent nfs. Winning will quite literally almost always depend on skill or experience. No op Regera or player flying away in the lead in a power build. Everyone gets the exact same chances and it’s up to the best player to find their way to victory.
I’m thankful to Hot Pursuit for having accompagnied me in periods of my life which have been pretty lonely. I have had other games which i loved or hated with more passion, but none ever brought me back with as much passion years later.

After watching this video I installed the game for the 1st time. I'm so awestruck right now.
Like many here I have a long "player career" in racing games, but NFS was always the series that I sort of abandoned off after NFS Underground 2, when it started becoming too much style and less substance. I had recently installed NFS The Run, and was pleasantly surprised, but this is on another level. First of all it's crazy how much this exudes Burnout 2 vibes from every pore. This sort of feels like the "high tech, real life cars" sequel that I always wished Burnout 2 had had instead of where that series went with the "easy gratuitous spectacle of takedowns" and then when it veered towards open world with Paradise. This feels so much like a labor of love from the people that made Burnout 2 (I'm just saying this without knowing if it's actually true or not).
There's so much that surprised me here in terms of getting the basics right as well, like:
    - The game defaulting to my ancient preferred control scheme of right stick to accelerate and brake, as if by magic!?
    - The menus being fast, simple and easy to navigate
    - Having a car of each class that I can drive in free-roam straight from the get go
    - The HUD being exquisitely minimal (for an arcade racing game at least), with all the hud action neatly tucked away on the bottom sides and with the proper respect shown to leaving the view of the road gloriously unobstructed (how almost every racing game fails at this by filling the center top of the screen with text popups is still something I don't understand)
With the HUD off mod, this might just have instantly become my new favorite "cruise through a gorgeous landscape at high speeds" game.
This makes me question what other games in the Franchise I may have overlooked.

My First NFS was High Stakes, when I played Hot Pursuit 2010 for the first time it was a nod back to the older days. especially with the information given about each car. a bit nerdy but in a good way. High stakes did it better though because the Manual and Automatic gearboxes actually have different amount of gears on certain cars. Little things to make a game feel more complete.

This has to be the best entry in the series, that most people who played NFS during the 2000s will probably refuse to play, and/or give credit to.
It's another good experience where you can pick up and play, that also gives you enough room to become better while constantly putting your abilities to the test, and to me, it leaves me with a sense of melancholy when I see folks, both from within and outside the motorsport sphere, that seem to ignore this game, at least, those within my own circle anyways.
In the end, I'm starting to feel like this is probably the best modern nfs game that most individuals refuse to play, whatever the motive for it is.

To me, there's one default to this game that I always point out. It will probably a minor one for most people but it matters to me : the police car liveries. I like when there is coherence to a universe, detailed or not, and police cars in this games makes no sense. There's almost one different livery for each police car, worst being the European police liveries for Lambos, Aston Martin or Porsche. I found it cool when I was younger, especially for the Polizia Lamborghini which is highly iconic, but damn, I'd like to see the same skin for each car. Or in the best of the worlds, 3 or 4 different liveries for car classes. Like for example regular patrol, highway patrol, interceptor, special units something like that... a bit like in Rivals but more diverse and distinct.
That would give coherence and making us believe all cars belongs to the same police district but with different purposes, which allows you to have various liveries while keeping coherence at the same time.
And maybe let's say, if we want to get a bit fun or creative, a sort of vintage Secreast County police skin for the few older cars in the roster.

I would love to see another NFS game but this time, it's still set on Cops vs. Racers mode but each side will be armed with guns. It's like Death Race, so to speak. The cops themselves will still have the same tactics using Seacrest's and Redview's choice of cars, but adding guns in their arsenal and put it in their bumper and sides would be much better.

As someone who loves the tuner based racing games that NFS had to offer. I definitely miss these types of games that NFS used to make. I grew up playing games such as Prostreet and Rivals. Even though the reception for those games weren't that great. I actually really enjoyed those games for what they were. So for that part I know exactly how you feel. Sadly I never played Hot Pursuit. I missed out on the hype and release. But I've seen the trailers, and little clips of gameplay. I just haven't experienced it myself yet. But despite all that I didn't know this game had so much detail. After watching your video I was genuinely shocked. The little details in the map despite it being closed instead of open, different game modes for event variety while making every race a point to point/sprint with no addition of circuit races, I don't like circuit races either so I'm with you on that, the addition of having a narrator, and making the car start up once you select it. I'll be honest. The one detail that surprised me the most was when you zoomed in on the red BMW to show that the side mirrors are fully rendered even in third person. My jaw dropped at that part. I don't think any of the newer NFS games even have that. That level of detail is insane to me. But man it sucks that we don't see these types of games anymore. I would love to see a sequel to either Hot Pursuit, Rivals, or Prostreet. It shouldn't be a lot to ask for anyways especially since they've made so many tuner based games already. But other than that, this was a great video. I can tell you had a blast making this even before you said it at the end. You have so much passion for this game man and I love it. And congratulations on reaching 30,000 subscribers!
Also this might seem like a Hot Take: But in my opinion. I think this game has EASILY the best cinematic and CGI trailers I have ever seen for a racing game. No other racing game trailer has that same level chills and intensity that these trailers offer. The trailers they had for this game were so good they almost look like movies to me. I mean imagine a whole Hot Pursuit movie with scenes that look exactly like the ones from the trailers. I would pay good money to see that happen.

Too bad nobody talks about the even more finer details. Like how you can turn off your engine and some cars actually have a unique start up sound. Or how the difference between the racer career and cop career. In the menus it's not just simply "racer career" or "cop career", in the driver details tab they're actually referred as "rap sheet" and "service record" or the leveling name racers have "levels" while cops "ranks". Or when you choose a location, racers have "select race location" while cops have "select police district". Very small details that many don't notice or just don't care, but I think they're neat.

Hot Pursuit 2010 for me was a game that was too simple and got boring too quickly. Too little variety within single player gameplay (particularly on the racer side of things) as opposed to Hot Pursuit 2 with the lack of single player racer interceptors, a lack of lapped events and lack of tournaments. Also as someone who mainly plays solo with really no friends who play the game it got stale quickly. To me Rivals was by far the best Cops vs Racers game in the series and blended the Hot Pursuit and more black box-ish styles into a fun chaotic experience.

The Hot Pursuit style of Need for Speed games (NFS III: Hot Pursuit, NFS High Stakes, Hot Pursuit 2, Hot Pursuit 2010 (& Remastered), Rivals) scratched an arcade racer itch that has sadly fallen by the wayside among major publishers & developers. I guess the major automotive brands have gotten a bit more hostile towards their cars being damaged severely so that might be a factor.

The Hot Pursuit series will always have a soft spot in my heart. I will admit I always preferred the customisation focused games at least during the PS2 era but there's something about Hot Pursuit that scratches that itch to just go as fast as one can go. When leaving the store with a copy of this and MW2012 I knew that PS3 would never be turned off. The other games say need for speed but Hot Pursuit screams Need for Speed.
