I'm really not a fan of the Deck's ergonomics, and I find it pretty perplexing that so many people sing the praises so much. Maybe for stuff like shooting games it's great, but I really dislike the thumb placement for older style games with a focus on DPad and face buttons. I really appreciate all its done for the software side of things, though. Its progress has made ChimeraOS on my Ally a complete joy.
My boss brought up video games and so I mentioned the steam deck. He confidently said that the deck is "just a raspberry pi with a screen on it". I tried to calmly tell him otherwise but I don't know how to explain to people what this device actually is. They're still hating in 2024, I don't get it.
Actually, phones are basically "rpi+screen", not the steamdeck, because the rpi uses arm, and the SD is not. Also, you can say its a "laptop+console hybrid" or a "switch pc".
Very fun episode, been stressed the whole day so it was great to wind down with this. I was talking to Richard a bit about Suicide Squad and the whole mission lacking variety thing and I am sad to hear Jimmy confirming my fears from seeing the gameplay. It's a shame, I can very much see this being Rocksteady's final game :( Also really weird Until Dawn of all games got a port before Ghost of Tsushima, come on Sony!!
Oh hello Jimmy, welcome back! It's really nice to see you here as well. You fit really well in the Nerdnest team! I will never ever trust Sony again with handhelds, see what they did with the Vita One, it was a fantastic handheld for that time and still Sony putted it in the trash bin. I was a proud owner of the Vita, but wasn't able to buy any game for it really fast. And now at this time, I have no need for a Sony handheld anymore. So I am still happy!
Thanks! Yeah, it sucks that they live or die by people showing up. I think the key difference here is the philosophy being that it can just play your PS4/5 games you already own vs having to invest in a bunch of new standalone games for it. We'll see!
My thing is I'm not paying 70 bucks for an always-online game with Denuvo. I want assurance that I can play it fifteen years from now in case I feel like it. But it's not even that, they already got server issues and obviously it's never playable without an internet connection. No thanks
I'm enjoying SSKJL runs great, looks great and the story is fun. I only really care about the story so probably won't get into the endgame but definitely better than most will give it credit for
I just grabbed a Beelink mini PC (5800H) on Black Friday to use as a HTPC, and I was pleasantly surprised by its build quality and performance for under $300. It came with Windows 11, it's upgradable, and it can actually run games on its iGPU. I don't even know what to do with the 6 extra cores and 8gb of RAM (emulation/ indie box?)... Keeping in mind that I only expected it to be a slight upgrade over my $250 i3 Asus laptop taking its place as a media player under my TV, I definitely got my money's worth and I'm excited to see what they do over the next few generations. AMD APUs are looking like they're going to be getting pretty good.
I feel like all of these new handhelds are too little, too late, after buying a Steam Deck (including a Vita 2, which I've wanted since the first one)... The only other handheld that I might be interested in is the Asus Ally due to it running Windows (I'm just more comfortable with Windows) and it having a 1080p screen- I don't really play AAA games on my Steam Deck, it kills the battery and I have a PC that I can get 144 fps @ 1440p vs the 44 fps @ 720p on the Deck and a 1080p screen would scale much better (small text) and look slightly better while playing my indies and emulation. Also there are a few things that would be nice on a Windows handheld like Gamepass. I don't own a console these days, too greedy and restricted. The one and only exclusive I want to play is Granturismo 7, and I have no problem waiting for all the others to make it to PC. Long way of saying I'm not very hyped for any of the new handhelds, Valve already got my respect and money.
13:42 This thing is a MONSTER. 😳 I don’t wanna hear any more of my friends teasing me about my Portal, now. 😂😂😂 Also, YESSS Eddy is my favorite Tekken character. He is ALL I played as in Tekken Tag Tournament. Even played it recently on Deck! (ps2 Emulation)
I backed my onexplayer x1 withtin the first 72 and I'm excited to get it, not going to crap on intel because of past chips and not going to judge until at least 2 months out with a few updates. Just expecting to be a handheld with intels version of the z1 not CRUSH the Ally but at least compete after updates, gaming on a nice big 10.9 ltps LCD screen in handheld mode is going to be awesome. Its 3 in one use is great for me too which is a plus. It would be great to see intel build off this and really start competing with AMD in the portable PC market. They need people to buy it, use it, get feed back make it better. Either way I'm excited to get mine in March. Got the 155/ 32gb/ 2tb model. I think it looks really cool, one of the reasons I backed it, I liked the ps portal look. Fun hearing you guys not like it but I do. The closeness is a problem they are going to fix, im positive by the time they ship its be fixed, yeah their bad for wanting to send early but look at the reaction...you guys hate it lol so yeah they need to get it out their fast. Should have fixed the controllers before but just let them fix it and send you a good unit. But me personally I really like the X1's look and design which was one point why I bought it.
Can anyone answer this, once steam OS is available will it play nice with other handheld systems in terms of compatible drivers and optimisation along with the RGB lighting around the thumb sticks?
I agree with Kerry about The Last of Us. The gameplay isn't fun and they repeatedly do dumb things that ruin any sense of immersion. They should have just made it an animated movie
I absolutely detest the idea of useless removable joy con's! They just gonna get loose after a few uses! I'm hoping this stupid gimmick comes to an end with handhelds! Just give me one whole piece of a gaming handheld like the steam deck!
Live service inherently puts a bad taste in your mouth. When it comes from a game that wasn’t originally designed to be that way. Games like rocket league that I payed money for then later became free. Or dripfeed games that use to be dlc but now became passes. You used to be rewarded for input and now they just wanna suck your soul. It becomes commercialism genocide.
Gameplay is decent but the story on how they kill all the league after building up Batman Arkham and then the same missions, they maybe should have gone with Superman game but WB declined.
Msi can’t even make good laptops, I don’t have any faith in anything they brand other than motherboards…and even then you have to worry about their after sales customer service experience. There’s a litany of reddit threads about those alone.
I loved the first tekken on PlayStation, Paul was a bad ass, sounds like tekken 8 is fun game, especially cross play. Anyone try the Lenovo go glasses to game on?
I think it is strange to say Steam Deck competitors when GPD have had numerous handhelds that came out before the Steam Deck. Surely they and the Steam Deck are GPD Win competitors
The new devices are aimed at beating the Steam Deck, hence usually trying to hit lower price points and such, aiming for friendly front ends, etc. GPDs devices were much more niche. They do compete, but the newer devices target the Deck much more.
@@lartrak Compared to PS5, Switch, PCs, Xbox....do you not think portable handheld X86 machines are niche in general? I find my GPD Win Max 2 far more compelling than the Steam Deck, but I do get your point. The Steam Deck has brought it more to the fore
Jimmy said a "Showcase should be coming soon" LoL I guess if hopefully Summer is "soon" to you then sure. But he also made it sound like PlayStation had an abundance of games in 2023 games as well... Everyone telling him to play the last of us is just a fanboy. The game is overrated. The story was bland and predictable. The only good part of the story was the intro. The game's story peaks at the intro and it's stale the rest of the game
Dude nothing against anyone but I hate the discourse surround suicide squad. EVERYONE that I watched that played it said it was fun but was SCARED to say it. Thats so weird to me. Still rocking my aya neo 2021. Glad to see the handheld space continue to grow. I'll be upgrading when strix launches with zen5
Tekken 3 still holds up amazingly well. Except the scale of King’s head vs body. ;)

Awesome video just like always!! You guys mentioned ETA prime, any chance to get him on the podcast!?👀
My thing on suicide squad is the escort missions and endgame. 9 years for another game to use the most dated mission designs possible.

Still wanting for the screen off downloading on the SD oled,
Its a must for the oled version rather going to desktop mode or lower the brightness.
Just head into Desktop Mode, or don’t stress about this at all. Nowadays OLEDs aren’t nearly as prone to burn-in as everyone is afraid of.
