hiiii~ if you're reading this, thank you for showing up :)
I'm Rocky, an American currently living abroad in Seoul, South Korea. To be honest, when I first moved here in December 2023 I had no intentions for how long i'd stay or what I'd pursue. at that time I just knew that i needed a break from the hectic corporate business life i'd been living in the U.S. for so long. I guess you could say I was pretty burnt out after working for some of the biggest companies and then also launching my own.
after originally coming to Korea solely to just study the language for a bit (and honestly just vibe out for a few months LOL), now i've actually built quite a life here for myself. I have a ton of new content being edited and released soon so you guys can follow my journey as a university student and a marketing executive at a k-beauty company in Seoul! life happens fast haha but it can be as amazing as we choose to make it. things aren't always great, but we always have the choice to change.

awe thank you so much!! I'll start using more Korean in my videos for sureeee 😁 I always wonder if it would be weird to talk to the camera in Korean if most people wouldn't understand, but if it nice to see, then I'll definitely do it ☺️ thank you for this!

I told a friend just yesterday, “if you want to be more stylish just make sure you have great coats!”. Can agree, yours is a great coat

That was super cool! The views of Seoul make me want to come back so badly! Do you mind sharing some more insights on accommodation? How did it look like for you? Any tips? Stay strong, King!

Hi!! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 😁✨ sure, what sort of insights are you looking for?? Accommodations like housing? I found my own apartment (with the help of a friend) by just visiting a realtor in the area that I wanted to live in, and then talking with them about my budget and what I was looking for. From there we viewed places, and signed a lease all in the same day. I moved in a few days later. The housing market moves quick here 😅 very similar to New York City so it was familiar to me. The biggest tip I’d say is get a hotel or airbnb for at least a week while you’re looking , just so you’re not pressured to accept a house you don’t like. My first day looking I was so disappointment because all the places I prearranged to see (via Facebook housing groups), I ended up hating lol. But then the next day my friend helped me go directly to realtor offices and it worked out amazingly. I hope this helps!!! Feel free to ask me anything else! I appreciate you for watchingggggg

      @@therockycollins Hi!
Thank you so much for your quick response-it’s incredibly helpful to have all those details! I’m slowly making up my mind about moving to Korea, so I’m gathering as much information as I can to make the process as smooth as possible. While I could study at home, it’s just not the same, right? Full language immersion is the best teacher of all.
I do have two more questions if you don’t mind:
Apartment Lease and Visa: Do you need to sign a lease for an apartment before getting the visa, or is it possible to get the visa first and then look for a place to stay? I’m planning to apply for a student visa, but this detail has been so unclear-I’ve seen conflicting information across different websites.
Navigating Documents in Korean: When it comes to signing agreements (like leases), do you need to know Korean beforehand? Would you recommend handling these with a professional offering such help to avoid any misunderstandings?
Thank you again for your time and advice. It’s really reassuring to hear from someone who’s been through this process!

@@angelicajeszke full immersion is absolutelyyyy the best way to go if you want to really have command of a new language! my ability would not be where it is now, at all, if I hadn't moved to Korea.
And no worries!! ask me all the things okay! haha
Apartment Lease and Visa Question: You get the student visa first, so that you can enter the country. Then you find an apartment. Then you apply for your Foreigner Registration Card. In that order. Once you have your foreigner registration card then you can get a Korean bank account etc etc. And you DO need a signed lease in order to get the registration card.
Navigating Documents in Korean Question: The leases and bank paperwork etc. will all be in Korean. For the lease, I brought a Korean friend with me. If you don't have that option then it might be worth handling these things with a professional translator or something tbh.. Just so that you are super clear on everything. For the bank account setup, I ended up opening an account at one of the banks on my school's campus because I just trusted it more. Like, if anything were to go wrong, I at least could take it up with the school in some way.
And no problem at all!!! I hope to be the resource for people that I needed back when I was deciding what to do lol it's definitely not easy. but it's doable and it's worth it!
