Ghostface Killah for me has to be a top 10 rapper ever. Has two undeniable classics of his own in Ironman and Supreme Clientele, with some other albums you could consider, like Fish Scale, Apollo Kids or even 12 reasons to die or the Pretty Toney Album. He is also a big part of 3 classic albums - 36 Chambers, OB4CL, and Wu Tang Forever. Elite storyteller and lyricist, one of the best flows, and so fly with his rhymes, classic songs and verses, and also a great longevity.
Three undeniable classic. I would put Fishscale in that classic category with Supreme Clientele an Ironman. And he has a bunch of great albums with zero bad Hip Hop albums

You guys should definitely do a top 10 list of your favourite hip hop groups of all time. Would be interesting to see how you rank the likes of OutKast, Wu tang and NWA
Even though NWA has a small catalog [Two albums (efil4*****n and Straight Outta Compton), a compilation (NWA and the Posse), and an EP (100 Miles and Runnin)] if anyone is higher than them I am gonna be mad lmao

IMO Ghostface Killah is in my top 10. He’s got an amazing solo discog, amazing features, amazing group work with multiple classics under his belt spanning 15 years (36 Chambers-Fishscale). He’s got a great rapping voice, amazing lyrics, flow, etc. he’s definitely top 10, possibly top 5 imo
Nah, i can't put no rapper inside a Top 10 that's been rehashing the same style his entire career. Like, if you listen to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and you listen to 36 seasons he's rapping the same way, same flows, same type of bars, etc... Those albums are literally 20 years apart, lol. The only thing that changed is he has different producers supplying the beats now... That's it. And even still he doesn't really want to hop on something different to kind of pour some fresh gas into the tank... He keeps picking the boom bappy type shit.
@@zennihilator3724I totally understand, that’s maybe why Ghostface doesn’t get much mention because he didn’t have much growth after Supreme Clientele I’d say. I still think he’s a top tier mc and I guess it just comes down to personal preference because I’m a huge Wu-tang fan. Top 5 may have been an overstatement tbf
@@bigmibeatz Indeed, and not just Ghost, i think a lot of 'rap greats' from the 90s suffer from the same thing. A lot of them made it big early on in their career and then kept repackaging that formula since it worked for them at the start... but like all things in life, you can't keep doing the same thing and expect people not to find you boring after a while when the novelty starts to wear off and you become predictable as an artist, which is never a good thing... The thing is when we talk about the best rappers ever... A lot of them motherfckers can spit cold 16's all day... That's why they're greats... So then outside of pure personal preferance which is entirely subjective, we need some criteria to seperate the cream from the crop... And a couple of key factors i look at are how well can you incorporate your ability to rap and use that to make good, memorable music that's enjoyable to listen to... Like a good example of what i'm talking about is Logic... Logic can rap his ass off but very few people care about the albums he releases because he doesn't know how to make song out of rapping... It's like most his songs are freestyles he put down on paper and re-fined a little and that's it. Another thing is how versatile you are. Like, if you're in the NBA... It's great that you can shoot 45% from three, but if that's all you do on a basketball court is spot up shoot then i can't take you seriously as one of the best players in the league... Great players are great because they mastered many different styles and techniques and know how to switch it up depending on the context of their team and the game to still produce at a high level. I feel like a lot of these rappers people are naming as all-time great, if you put them on a non-traditional beat, they'd sound completely out of place... And then finally what's your discography looking like. A lot of cats can produce one legendary album and then rehash that style 5 times, but how many can produce multiple S-tier albums, reinvent themselves artistically etc. I'm talking about guys like Outkast, Kanye, Kendrick to an extent... Like, you don't even have to reinvent the wheel, just put out something that's 40 minutes long and has no skips... My favorite rappers is probably Freddie Gibbs right now, and i don't think he reinvented the wheel or anything in the rap genre (though he does rap on a large pallette of different production), but he put out like 10 projects in the last 15 years and the amount of weak songs total on those projects is probably 5%??? Like out of every 100 songs he releases like 5 maybe are mid filler type shits... The rest you can literally play through multiple times and never gets old. How many cats can say that? Come on mane...
@@zennihilator3724do you really care so much about it if it’s one of the best styles the rap world has ever presences? And no, his style did evolve into being something more of a hypeman in supreme clientele and increasing that tenfold into fishscale. I'm surprised you guys are just now doing this. Can't wait to give this a listen. You’ve done brackets, tier lists but never a formal Top 10. Great stuff
10.) Kanye West (should be top 5, doesn’t write all his raps) 9.) Andre3K 8.) Big L (might be a personal bias) 7.) Lil’ Wayne 6.) Nas 5.) Biggie 4.) Eminem 3.) Pac 2.) Kendrick 1.) JayZ
For me a Top 10 rappers is based on Impact, Lyrics, Flow and Versatility. (Beat selection and composition falls more in best artist) My top 10 would be: *1. Eminem* - This man went out and beyond to break music records that nobody on rap did before. Yes he has 2 albums that I don't like, but he has the best trilogy of rap albums (imo), you never seen an artist this mainstream in rap who still loves the genre and respects everything about rapping this much, with some of the best rhymes schemes I've ever heard and phonetic perfect flows that sounds like it's own instrument. *2. Nas* - Nas' mind it's out of this planet. Someone who also loves rap so much, amazing catalog (even with Nastradamus), the best debut album, with verses that touched my soul and insane influence. *3. 2Pac* - Yeah, Idk what y'all smoking. If rap had a face, it would be Pac's face. One of the most powerful voices in rap, amazing discography, iconic figure in music and the best disstrack in rap. Plus 2Pac's work ethic is unmatched, this man pumped iconic rap verses and bangers like it was nothing. *4. Biggie* - Best flow in rap, two 10/10 iconic albums in music. Insane performances, and genius with imagery and painting pictures. *5. Jay-Z* - The rapper who everyone would wish to be. Amazing albums and classics, one of the best flows ever (yes I know he used flows from certain artists but he still added his own touch), and an insane talent to say a lot with less. *6. Rakim* - The man who changed the whole genre. Classic albums that still sound great till this day, amazing song concepts, really creative writing (kinda underated imo), and a true artist who loves rap. *7. Andre 3k* - (It hurts so much not having him in top 5) The 2nd best flow ever (fight me), near-flawless catalog, insane song concepts and some of the best verses in rap are from this man. *8. Kendrick* - One of the best storytellers and concept writer. Not only being a genius with rhyme schemes and voice changes but also make it so his music hits mainstream while still maintaining substance and artistry. *9. Lil Wayne* - He influenced every rapper you hear today, the best punchliner, iconic voice, insane run of albums and mixtapes, and an icon in rap. *10. MF DOOM* - The most creative writer I've ever heard, amazing influence and impact, otherworldly rhyme schemes and iconic persona. *Honorable Mentions:* Kanye West, Ghostface Killah, Mos Def, Talib Kwali, Black Thought, Common, Raekwon, Method Man, Lupe Fiasco, KRS-ONE, Busta Rhymes, Big L, Big Pun, Lauryn Hill, Q Tip, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap and Scarface.
@@kane_howe138 2Pac has some of the most impactful lyrics in rap. And what's genius about it is that, even tho lyrically I don't place him above Lupe Fiasco or Aesop Rock, Having the talent to make powerful lyrics that can connect with people and make millions feel your emotions it's a different type of skill. Not to mention, this man was recording and working like in 3 songs a day. The fact that he was able to constantly put out bangers after bangers and still have so much material with substance, emotion and vulnerability it's insane. Plus if we talk about impact, almost nobody it's as iconic as 2Pac in rap, and if we talk about flow, voice and performance, Pac was able to use everything in his arsenal to perfectly display his emotions in a way that I haven't seen other rapper do it like him.
It would be interesting to do a separate top 10 video for each component that you considered. For example, skill, impact, etc. Then see how the holistic overall top 10 list pans out based on each component list.

It's truly beautiful to be part on a deep dive into this topic. Here is my personal top 10 that has formed over the past 23 years since I started listening to rap music, or better to say music in general. Here we go: 2Pac Nas Eminem Masta Ace Jay-Z Guru André 3000 Kendrick Lamar Kanye West DMX
1. Nas 2. 2Pac 3. Ghostface Killah (switchable with 2 spot) 4. MF DOOM 5. Black Thought 6. Lupe Fiasco 7. Kendrick Lamar 8. billy woods 9. Rakim 10. Aesop Rock Overall for me taking a bunch of different things into account.
My top 10: 10. Andre 3k - The face of the greatest duo of all time 9. Rakim - Grandfather of Rap 8. MF Doom - King of the underground 7. Kendrick Lamar - Modern Legend 6. Kanye West - Biggest influencer 5. Tupac - most energy and has the anthems 4. Biggie - Best flow and Cadance 3. Eminem - Best 3 album run of all time and word poet 2. Nas - Created Illmatic. 1. Jay Z - Billion-dollar rapper, greatest legacy of all time
I'd put Thought at 1 personally, Nas 2nd. Both were amazing in the 90s and have revitalised their careers in the 2020s. I find it so insane that both have been able to do that decades into their careers.
One of the best lists I've seen on the internet yet. Nas, Jay and Big deserve the spot. I would slid in Common as well. He got one of the best discographies of all time, annihilated Ice Cube, Got love anthems, Can freestyle effortlessly, Great Storytelling, 1st rapper in Hip Hop to win a Grammy, Emmy and Oscar and also known as Chi-Town Nas and also got one of the best voices in Hip Hop. Common is in my top 5 though. Would like to see a top 20 list with Lupe, AZ, Kool G Rap, Scarface, Pharoahe.
Kendrick is the greatest to me because he can do super lyrical MF DOOM level technical raps like Black Friday and then poetry like Sing About Me or Complexion. Also he knows how to use his voice. He knows how to layer his voice like no other. Also the greatest hip hop performer all time (Grammys 2016)

I don't get the time factor that people consider for Kendrick, Ok he is relatively new to the game when compared to Nas or MF DOOM. But put Biggie and Pac on their top 3-5 when unfortunately they also don't have the longest career... For me Time factor really don't count much..
Yup, can't use time factor but then turn around and put Biggie inside the Top 5 when he literally released less overall music than Kendrick... Either longevity matters or it doesn't for everyone, can't pick and choose.
One thing I'd like to see included more in these convos is live performances. I know it's hard because some rappers we will never get the chance to see, but seeing Black Thought live at a jazzfest just opened my eyes to what a hip hop concert could be.
1. Nas 2. Andre 3K 3. Notorious B.I.G 4. Jay-Z 5. MF DOOM 6. Kendrick Lamar 7. Eminem 8. Black Thought 9. Rakim 10.
He doesn’t sound like his 90s style and if he’s done so who am I to care? He’s incredible on the mic
How did you like him on the KDOT album

For me a Top 10 rappers is based on Impact, Lyrics, Flow and Versatility. (Beat selection and composition falls more in best artist) My top 10 would be:
How you gonna say lyricism is a main factor then have 2pac in your list? In terms of lyricism he isn’t even a top 15 rapper
The best list i ever seen. I have same TOP5
@@SpiderJAAMyou could say all that abt kanye

@astrodrell007 hov has been talked abt since the 2000s as a top 5 rapper
Yo Nas did way more than that and he is number one
