Something I love about this song, is the acknowledgement that just because you *aren't* on an "epic" adventure, doesn't mean you don't encounter monsters. They aren't just giants and magic and gods. Sometimes it's the guy next door who causally talks about raping women. Fight those monsters too.
You made me laugh so hard when you paused after the first half of Antonius' bit, full of quite justified anger and indignation, and I'm just thinking, "Jen, wait until you hear the second half of it." Your reaction was perfect! For a truly despicable person like Antonius, just when you think you can't be any angrier at them, they're like "Hold my beer."
I love that the voice actor for Antonius knew what he was getting into when he auditioned for the role and is REVELING IN IT!! (It probably helps that the fans seem to be pretty good at separating him from his character and he Does have an amazing voice.)
When actors play an infamous character, I always look back on the actor who played Judas in The Chosen. The title of the video is "somebody had to play the guy that betrayed Jesus", and it always reminds me how in a story an actor playing the antagonist will always be needed because the story can't be portrayed if there wasn't anyone willing to play that role 😂
i love watching reactions to this song specifically because "when's your tramp of a mother gonna choose a new husband?" always (rightfully) gets people's hackles up and it's hilarious.
Another comment for the algorithm: Telemachus talking about the stories hes heard doesn't meant specifically what happened to Odysseus. In the mythos of Greece, the people in those stories are very much aware of the mythical gods and monsters that are in the world. Like any other culture, they would pass on those stories, whether for entertainment or as warnings.
Fun fact: the ''Where is he'' part used to be in a song called ''Man of the house'' where odysseus and penelope have a little duet where the ''Where is he , where is the man who'll have you to wife'' is used in , sadly enough the song got cut
Jorge has said that a saga of all cut songs is absolutely a possibility, and I know man of the house is up near the top of songs that would be finished for a scrapped saga.
The dog is Argos Odysseus' dog that he had from the time he was. A kid Jorge has confirmed that Argos won't be featured in the official story or animatics after this as in the Odyssey Argos dies right after seeing Odysseus for the first time in 20 years.
Yeahhhh the suitors in their entirety are a massive trigger warning, one of the future songs called “Hold them Down” (Ithica Saga) is also gonna be a HUGE Content Warning
6:13 for those who are wondering, he was 10 years at war, 3 years at sea, and about 7 years traped at "spoilers" island But I do think his voice and the way he is speaking/singing does give me "young teen" vibes, or is it just me😅
You have the correct reaction to Antinous, that jackass is a creep that could rival Zeus. SO excited to watch the rest of your reactions to this saga! It's one of my absolute favorites!
two things: 1. Legendary contains a callback to Full Speed Ahead, specifically the pre-chorus melody ("cuz I'm stuck with your stories / but no clue who you are / and no idea if you're dead or just too far" -> "and Ithaca's waiting / my kingdom is waiting / Penelope's waiting for me") 2. the dog's name is Argos. he is a very good boy. his particular story beat will not be included in this adaptation, so he's only a cameo.
I’m obsessed with how detailed and analytical your reactions are-that’s totally my vibe! And the way you get emotional about everything just makes it even better; it feels like you’re going through the same rollercoaster as me, which is so much fun to watch. Honestly, I just wish I could binge the whole saga on Patreon right now, bummer that early access there is just one song at a time!
Ah it’s takes a little while to edit and other jobs etc!! So they do eventually go on Patreon and I aim for at least 3 days before release here on UA-cam ☺️ thank you!
This song takes place 7 years after Thunder Bringer, Telemachus is somewhere between 19/21 years old. Bc Odysseus left for the Trojan War when he was a baby, and the war lasted 10 years; after that I think all the events shown in the musical lasted maybe 9/10 years.
Ah, also in The Horse and the Infant, Telemachus must be around 10 years old, but Ody compares him to a baby because he doesn't know what Telemachus looks like at that age, the only memory he has is of a baby and not of a 10 year old child. :(
Honestly, with Jay’s slip up, I have two headcanons as to when the missing 2 years happened. -Odysseus and crew took 2 years to prep to go to the underworld -After returning from the underworld, Odysseus and crew stayed with Circe to regroup and map out their route home, as in the original odyssey. At least this way, Jay can feel a liiiittle better about the mistake he made in the making of There Are Other Ways
He's heard stories about Odysseus from his mom, and probably the men of Ithaca who were too old to go to war, but hearing stories about how awesome your dad was just gives Telemachus an unattainable ideal of who his dad is to try and live up to.
@@dolphin64575 Also, from the people who came back from the war. In the Odyssey, Telemachus actually leaves the island to search for Odysseus and hears stories from his old brothers in arms, like Menelaus and Nestor.
Correct, this is 7 years after thunder bringer. As you hear in the song, Odysseus has been away for two decades, 10 years at the war, the other 10 trying to get home. Telemachus was an infant when Odysseus left so he's about 20. And the suitor werent saying Ody is a deadbeat, they know hes not because him and Penelope's relationship was one of a kind in those times. Most of them were assuming he had been dead and Penelope and Telemachus were in denial.
I know you're not on the newest Saga yet, but I just have to say that you should react to song 3 and 4 of the Vengance Saga together, because they fade into one another.
Yeah every saga is all done in one sitting which I was very happy when I learned. I think it really takes away from the experience if songs like the first three of this saga aren't back to back
For a bit more of the timeline, Telemachus is around 20 years old at this point, and it's been 7 years since Thunderbringer, plus the years Ody and his crew spent at sea (we can assume that was about 3 years, so that's the time span for the first act, all the way to the thunder saga), in addition to the 10 years they spent at war in Troy! Ody hasn't seen his family in over two decades, and it's really heartbreaking when you think about it... Also, no one but the gods have any idea of what happened to Odysseus at this point, so to the people of Ithica, Odysseus must have died at war, or after the war, since they've probably sent envoys to other kingdoms that had participated in the Trojan War to confirm his whereabouts. When Telemachus sings about the cyclops and the sirens, it's not because he knows their connection to Odysseus, it's just that they're infamous greek monsters at the time, and he's saying that he can be legendary just like his father if he was able to fight larger than life monsters like that. This is just used to show how much Telemachus Idolizes and loves his father, whom he has never met, but knows him through the stories his mother have told him growing up!
12:44 So I haven’t seen anyone talk about it yet (or I haven’t scrolled far enough) The “Where is he” lines come from a cut song called “Man of the House” sung by Odysseus and his backstory including his courting of Penelope and the passing of his father. I highly recommend watching the clips!
Telemacus instrument is an acoustic guittar because his father's instrument is an electric guittar and his mother is an acustic viola (somenthing seems werid about how i spell guittar, but i dont remember how its written)
Telemachus knows all about the stories from the bard that was in the palace. The suitors would constantly ask the bard to tell them stories for their entertainment. Homer was himself a bard and would sing the odyssey to who ever would ask him.
The singer for Antinous originally auditioned for Tiresias and he was my favorite. He sounds so beautiful when he’s singing sweetly. Love a singer who has the range.
this is my second favorite song on the saga because the next one is *spoiler* a villain song and i am a big fan of villain tracks because of johnathon young's metal disney covers
So im sure someone else mightve commented this so ill just add to the pile. Timeline is as follows: 10 years of war (See "Horse and the Infant": 'ten years of war theyve killed us slowly') After "There Are Other Ways" they spend 2 years at Circe's Island, the mistake was in Done For, as at this point it had just been on their way so at that point it had still been 10 years. 7 years time skip after Thunderbringer. And persumably inbetween there has been some time adding up to about a year and a bit. So in total 20 years ofc as said in Legendary. So Telemachus is 21 years old
The only stories Telemachus would have at this point is the war stories and anything Ody did prior (like the boar of Athena). Every other ship made it back from Troy and to everyone else, Ody and his crew just fell off the face of the earth. They have no idea what's gone down since they left Troy
I love the tone of this song because it is so upbeat and different than the last few songs and just as you are starting to vibe Antinous hits you with the "Boy!"
My biggest recommendation for the best context is to watch the live stream version from jorge even if its after your reaction recording you could say they are the cannon animatics commissioned by jorge
You should listen to some of MICO's (aka Telemachus voice actor) songs, they're really good! They remind me a bit of Disney's teen music shows from the 2000s.
Telemachus was ~1 year old when Odysseus originally left home for the war in Troy. 10 years pass between Odysseus leaving Ithaca and the events of "The Horse and the Infant." Then, after sacking Troy, Odysseus and his fleet spent 3 years at sea, encountering everything we see between "Full Speed Ahead" and "Thunder Bringer." "Legendary" takes place 7 years after that, putting Telemachus at ~21 years old, though depending on how liberally you interpret Odysseus' words in "Just a Man" he could maybe be as old as 23 as of "Legendary."
Gonna leave a quick comment that there could be some confusion here because you reacted to only Neal Animator's version of Thunder Bringer. Their animatic has a slight difference on the location and ending, which is why you didn't know what happened to Odysseus at the end of Thunder Saga. I'm definitely recommending you check out other animatics or the livestream visuals. Keep up the good work, Jen!✨
I find myself sympathizing with characters like Telemachus who are trying to find ways of being strong in the conventional physical sense. It reminds me of how as a kid the idea of being strong enough to stand up for myself and not get dog walked seemed really inaccessible lol - so the uncertainty and fear at the end of this song is felt. I was having flash backs to the very few times I tried to rough house with my cousins 😂😂
Boyo is just singing about all the monsters he's heard of, he has no idea his dad has already fought some of them. That's why he includes things like Cerberus (which he mispronounces with an s sound at the beginning, the correct greek way is Kerberus), who his father has not fought.
about that warning... sadly... worse is coming at last saga well... here is your warning :D not vengance saga... finale isn't out yet... Antonius: Hold it on as we get closer...
AMAZING as usual! lol! Please, if you haven't already made up your mind, check out Gigi's We'll Be Fine. also, the 12 years was a mistake but is still cannon to Epic. so they spent 10 years at war, by the time they meet Circe, its been 12 years. maybe the underworld and Scylla took a year. Then Zeus strikes and BAM 7 years later. Also also, Ody knew of Sirens before he encountered them. They're a part of a lot of mythology. I'm sorry we didnt warn you. I know for sure there will be one song in the Ithaca saga "Hold Them Down" that you might want to brace yourself for. I dont believe it will be horrible, but there are similar threats made for sure. I hope this helps dude🥰
Telemachus is just listing off monsters from Greek myth, not anything specific to his father. Odysseus never ran into the minotaur, Cerberus, harpies, or a hydra. He has stories of his father because a lot of people other than Odysseus and his men were away at war and spent 10 years with him and brought home war stories (which involved Odysseus being a great warrior and brilliant general), so he'd know about the Trojan Horse for instance, but once he set out for home, he and his men were lost and Telemachus has no idea of anything that happened after the first song of Epic. In terms of instrument, the nylon string guitar is actually Odysseus when he's being kind and merciful (hence being heard around Polites) while the electric guitar is also Odysseus when he's being ruthless and scary.
if you don't mind a suggestion of some cool musical artists, I recommend listening to the band The Amazing Devil, whether for a YT vid or just for fun! they're very cool :)
What breaks my heart is the fact that Odysseus literally named him “far from battle”. He doesn’t know living in peace was everything his father wanted for him, because he lives in a society that aggrandizes violence.
The amount of ick I had for Antinious and the suitors with this version...same as yours Jen! In reading a translation of the original story in junior high school...🤢
I think fans got confused by only a 7 year timeskip, because they thought the line "12 long years" was wrong. But it's NOT. In the story, they stayed with Kirke (Circe) for two years, leaving in Year 13, which means it SHOULD be Year 11 that they arrive. Jay changed their "relationship" (if you can call it that, thank the gods he changed it) which means it definitely could be Year 12 when Ody arrives, and they reach the Sirens, Skylla, and the Helios cows in Year 13. Now it's 7 years later. Telemachus is 20 years old. Jay's presumed "mistake" wasn't a mistake at all! (And yes, it SHOULD be Kirke and Skylla! I know Jay used the pronunciation common in movies and games, it's probably how he first heard the names... but this incorrect pronunciation is a pet peeve of mine. My copy of "The Odyssey" that I've had since the 1990s spelled the letter "Kappa" with the letter "K", so I grew up reading about Kirke, Skylla, and Kalypso. Of course I saw the spellings of Circe, Scylla, and Calypso, but I still pronounced it right. When I got to college and studied literature, I had no idea who the professor was talking about when he said "SERSEE" and "SILA." He said he was saying it how movies have been mispronouncing it for decades, so most of the kids would know who he meant, but it turned out many of these students must have had the same edition I did, because they also used "SKYLLA." I blame whoever's bright idea it was to use "C" when Kappa should be spelled with a "K", thus screwing up generations of English readers. And Hollywood. Always blame Hollywood for screwing up literature.)
Idk if anyone has answered the question of how long the Trojan war lasted, but it lasted 10 years. The 12 years Odysseus mentions is the total amount of years he's been gone.
Yes Athena’s sacred animal is the owl, which is the entire reason owls are associated with intelligence in Western civilization… because I assure you it has no basis in the owls themselves!
The moral of this whole story is that Greeks were REALLY fucking bad at keeping track of the days at sea. Ody started out saying 10, then he started saying 12, then here we skipped 7 years and find out it's been 20 years since he left for war. Basically, Ody was missing a whole year math wise, at the VERY LEAST. 😂
Just a slight correction, Athena is not the goddess of war, Ares is the god of war. Athena is indeed the Goddess of Wisdom. Your probably getting confused from the lyric "Goddess of wisdom, master of war" from warrior of the mind
She is goddess of Wisdom and War. Ares is the god of War and Courage. They are brother and sister and both gods of War and often times at odds because of it
@@hylia8347she was also referred to as goddess of wisdom and defensive/strategic warfare. But She was the main goddess of Athens or in other terms the goddess you pray to for almost everything: goddess of craftsmanship/architechture like Hephaestus, of art like Dionysos, of purity like Artemis and Hestia, of weavers, ...
So, Telemachus was a baby when Odysseus left for war. The Trojan War was 10 years, then I believe the narrative is that Poseidon’s storm sent Odysseus and crew off course and getting them lost for 2 years (which makes up for the 12 long years bit), then it was 7 years after Thunder Bringer, which would make Telemachus as we know him in Legendary 20 years old! :)

The timing of your pauses is L-l-l-l-legendary 🤭
Hey! Continue producing such fantastic content.
See, thats a healthy reaction to Antinous. I on the other hand hear his voice and melt with fresh goosebumps on my neck
Same. I thought I was alone on that. Why does this despicable guy have to sound so good?😅
@JoanMousy you're not alone, trust me 😅🤣🤣🥰
I find myself sympathizing with characters like Telemachus who are trying to find ways of being strong in the conventional physical sense.
Please watch Jorge’s livestream when you react to the following songs! 💕 the animation will be spot on and they are gorgeous!
about that warning... sadly... worse is coming at last saga
well... here is your warning :D
not vengance saga... finale isn't out yet...
Antonius: Hold it on as we get closer...
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I’m so excited to see your reaction to the rest 🙂↕️
I just listened to Last One On Your Mind 🫶🫶 you sound so good!!
Thanks so much!
Sirens was about "12 years or so?" This is 7 years after Thunder Bringer. So he is 17-19 years old.
Great reaction Jennifer! 👍🎹👸❤
It may be a good idea to start listening to the songs in 2s or 3s, there's a lot AND a new saga just came out recently
It's not really important, but since I'm seeing a lot of folks misspelling it:
The nasty man's name is Antinous, (An-TIN-oh-us,) not Antonius.
I hope you watch duvetbox’s little wolf, it is so good.
if i remember right telem is in his early/mid twenties by the time we get to the wisdom saga
If you like Athena you should react to TE/MO - Mother 1 Teagan bringing the feels with that song
Athena is actually the goddess of wosdom, she just really liked meddling in people's business so she short of became goddess of war as well. ☺
What breaks my heart is the fact that Odysseus literally named him “far from battle”. He doesn’t know living in peace was everything his father wanted for him, because he lives in a society that aggrandizes violence.
The way Jen said “Eww” 😂😂
You’ll be surprised to know that he’s a fan fav
What can I say, People are weird
The amount of ick I had for Antinious and the suitors with this version...same as yours Jen! In reading a translation of the original story in junior high school...🤢
Ugh!!! So much ick!!!
27 years btw
while the suitors as a whole suck, the line "its been 20 years and we still have no king" does seem like a valid concern to have
I think it’s funny that Antonius calls Telemachus a “boy” when I’m pretty sure he’s older than Antonius
Do the livestream!
Yes Athena’s sacred animal is the owl, which is the entire reason owls are associated with intelligence in Western civilization… because I assure you it has no basis in the owls themselves!
I'm so glad to see a new member of Antinous x hate ship. Epic gives us so much material for this. We don't really have to try. It writes itself.
😂😂 oh nooo!!
I always feel like the dont you dare call my mother a tramp feels like its from jesus christ superstar
People have 2 reactions to Antinius.
"Ew" or "Ooo" 😂😂😂 one of the two should probably see a therapist 😅
Hi I am your biggest fan❤❤
Can you react to Melanie Martinez❤❤
Telemachus is 19
Just a slight correction, Athena is not the goddess of war, Ares is the god of war. Athena is indeed the Goddess of Wisdom. Your probably getting confused from the lyric "Goddess of wisdom, master of war" from warrior of the mind
She is goddess of Wisdom and War. Ares is the god of War and Courage. They are brother and sister and both gods of War and often times at odds because of it
@martialisbestplaysminecraft oh okay, thanks for the correction. But wisdom is typically what she is most heavily associated with
like the other comment said, she do be a war goddess. just more along the lines of tactical warfare.
@@hylia8347she was also referred to as goddess of wisdom and defensive/strategic warfare. But She was the main goddess of Athens or in other terms the goddess you pray to for almost everything: goddess of craftsmanship/architechture like Hephaestus, of art like Dionysos, of purity like Artemis and Hestia, of weavers, ...
we needed circe to pop in to take care of antinous real quick
Yeah Circe would be doing us all a favor by turning him into a pig
So, Telemachus was a baby when Odysseus left for war. The Trojan War was 10 years, then I believe the narrative is that Poseidon’s storm sent Odysseus and crew off course and getting them lost for 2 years (which makes up for the 12 long years bit), then it was 7 years after Thunder Bringer, which would make Telemachus as we know him in Legendary 20 years old! :)
Hear me out on antinous voice ... I'm doing of for Penelope
