I luckily, don't have any milkshake problems with my switches because I don't buy them. Lol
Anyway, I looked at the switches on my 01 e320 because they don't always work right. The two front switches have a one-touch function for both up and down. Sometimes they don't work right. The passenger side will go down on its own but you have to hold the switch to get it back up now.
My switches are all one assembly including the mirror and trunk release switch. They don't come apart like the ones on my Volvo did. I will have to look at them again and see if I can take the rockers off the top like yours.
I took the Volvo switches apart and filed the contacts on them slightly to get them to work right.
I'm surprised you did not do that while you had those open. They get a bit of corrosion on them and then don't work right. If they give you trouble in future try that. I actually used a small metal nail file.
Remember, no milkshakes in the car! Lol
I hope you had a good holiday and have a happy new year!

Sounds like you need to re-initialize the auto open/close function. With all doors CLOSED, turn key to position 2, roll each window (individually) UP, and once it closes, continue to hold the button down for an additional 5 seconds. Repeat for down/open as well, and repeat entire procedure on each window. If that doesn't work, you need a new window switch assembly! I have at least 10 W210 window switch assemblies (and wood trim too), all used but in perfectly working condition...let me know if you need one, just pay shipping! ;)
      Happy Holidays.

@@Johnathan_Waters Thanks for that info Jonathan.
I've had to reinitialize the remote function when disconnecting the battery but I did not know their was a process to make the auto up/down to work right. It is only the right side that will not auto up and I don't remember now when it started malfunctioning.
The drivers window will sometimes reverse itself half way up and go back down, but on repressing the switch it will then go all the way up.
      Gheist en machina! Lol
I don't know if that's the switch or the mechanism. I replace the other 3 regulators within the last year but not the driver side. It operates smoothly and quietly so I don't think it is defective. I hope I never have to do it because the front ones are a pain to do.
Thanks again and happy new year.

@@wernerdanler2742 If it goes up and then stops, you need to lubricate the vertical slides with silicone spray, or similar. Apply VERY generously. What's happening, is the window thinks something is blocking it, so it self-cancels (too much resistance) the seals are just a little bit too dry... you should really open up the door panels and do a lube/service on everything inside every five years or so (I do). Thats a whole other topic though.
Don't worry, there is no "ghost" in the machine, just a lack of maintenance ;).

@@Johnathan_Waters I have only owned this car for about 2 and a half years and I found it has been badly neglected. I have had to do a lot of catch-up on it but cannot afford to do but a little at a time.
The rear window shade is broken so they took the switch out and replaced the panel with one that does not have a place for the switch to try to hide the fact there is a shade.
As for the windows, they all move quite well actually except that occasional hitch in the drivers window.
I just got up but I think I'll go out and try that reset on the passenger window. As far as I know the back windows do not have that feature.

Love watching you work. You are such a meticulous Mercedes artist! I have one question: "Could I commission you to refurbish all of the wood pieces on my 1985 MB 300 SD ?"

Try to do this type of repair in a newer car! Impossible! Your electronics would be destroyed. Good luck! haha
