Well doesn't she look good, I think you should stick with the oily rag resto on her like you said only original once 👍good to hear Rachel getting better keep up the good work 👍
Wow, thanks Adam!👍 That made my day for sure, and I'm glad to hear that Rachel is getting better. I'll be there soon. Doctor put me on antibiotics just yesterday because I was coughing up blood. They seem to be helping. I reckon Arthur should be kept as is. A bit more of a clean maybe, but I think with the condition he's in, he doesn't need a new coat of paint. I don't mind admitting I'd love to get an Atom, just for the fun of it - Maybe when I get to pension age at the end of this year! Now, seeing the plough from the side, I reckon it's a digger. It was probably originally meant for use in small market garden, or nursery. It should make a good job of some proper ploughing. I'm curious about the bits of metal on top of the share. I'm wondering if that's been a repair at some point, or if there's been something else going on in the past - maybe to break up the sod as it is turned by the board. One useful tip when you're ploughing, always walk in the furrow bottom! It keeps you straight behind the machine, it gives you better grip for your feet 🐾, it's gives you more control over the tractor, and is less tiring than trying to walk on the land side. Just watch the horse ploughing guys, it's basically the same for these small machines. The real competition bods will have bits sticking out all over the machine, and great big weights and chunks of iron hanging off all over the place, but unless you really want to be winning golden plough awards and stuff like that, you don't need anything more than what you have there. Just beware of getting into tight corners, because without a reverse gear, you have to manhandle the beast out there, and that can be a back breaking task. That's why my dad always preferred the Anzani, because it has a reverse gear - in fact, it uses a Ford 8 three speed synchromesh box, not that the synchro is of any great consequence, but the reverse is a lifesaver, and can be a life taker. Interesting oil for the gearbox - I know that full grown farm tractors used 20 grade engine oil in the transmission, but there's good reasons for that, but in the case of the Atom, there's no selectable gears in that box, so the oil doesn't need to be all that thin, but also, the gearbox is your final drive, and takes all the torque from the engine to the axle, and there'll be a lot of pressure on those gear teeth. I'm surprised that they recommend such a low grade oil. I'd have guessed at EP75, or thereabouts. I'm looking forward to seeing this Atom in some action videos! I reckon you'll be hooked on that thing, like a drug, you're just going to want more and more as you learn more about them. 👍
So glad Rachel is on the mend. We think you should oily rag the Barford. At this rate you will be at the ploughing matches this year. Lol The one near us does have a section for this type of ploughing.
Lovely video Adam Nice original machine and I enjoyed the ploughing and service work
Nice machine it runs great, I have a collection of 12 various walk behind tractors.
