Large houses are used as Guild Hubs mostly. But the majority of guilds I’ve visited use Psijic Mansion as their base. It’s large, pretty and it was given away for free during Summerset Season.
The biggest problem I have with the crown store is how predatory it is to new players. People already commented how easy it is to get a vampire or werewolf bite for free in game if you just know where or think to ask. And there are plenty of things overpriced for how easy they are to get for free. I tell most people that are interested to avoid buying crowns and if they enjoy the game to just sub for all the DLC content and the craft bag since they give you $15 worth of crowns with each monthly sub. Then you can blow your crowns on whatever or save it up for something actually useful like a banker or merchant or DLC areas you want to have always available. I've played subscription based games before and I enjoy ESO enough to treat it like one cuz I find it nearly unplayable otherwise. I'm with you on removing key features to make premium being some bullshit.
Underrated comment. Honestly there's so much you can find in the game for no additional real money/crowns. Buying the first pack upgrade (let alone any, though the price does scale up) is just painful to watch because it's like 800 gold from the npc pack merchant. 800 gold is a pittance in this game, even if you're relatively new. The big January login reward (like 20 days of logging in daily) was 100,000 gold. Players are generally helpful in zone chat if they don't think you're trolling, minus the occasional number of people that will troll you. But 99.99% of players will tell you how to avoid the crown store if there is a way around it, because we all know it's terrible. For context I've played and subscribed since the 2014 launch.
I do not really understand why anyone ever should buy crowns before looking into the game (or store). It takes 10 minutes to realize that the store is mostly optional and more like a "reward system" for the ESO+ subscription model. ESO is a subscription based game with a big extended "trial". But you can theoretically play the trial even endlessly because of the more horizontal focussed progression + champion/paragon system. And if you want to play the game only for the base game, dungeons, veteran base dungeons / raids and all the story from the 3 alliances... damn this all will take 300-1000 hours alone if you are a real TES player and enjoy the dialogues etc.
I got the sub for the game, burned out, forgot about the sub, and came back like, 8 months later expecting to have 8 months worth of crowns, but no. You don't get those crowns for the month if you don't log in. That's when I knew I was dealing with criminal scum.
@@alexanderrahl7034 Ever tried to contact the support instead of only complaining? I know people had this issue, but there is no login required it sometimes is more of a problem with the subscription system (because you can get the crowns in advance for multiple months) or steam payments (not marked as DLC). People in my guild had this issue too and got it afterwards by the support team. They even write on their website ("As an ESO Plus member, you'll receive 1650 crowns for each month of your membership to spend in the in-game Crown Store.").

One other thing with houses in ESO is not only are they waaaaay too expensive, the furniture limit is stupidly small. You can have houses the size of a palace and you maybe have enough slots to furniture a room or two, the rest will stay empty. People been asking for higher limit, but response was "we don't play to do anything about it" ;x
Yeah I nearly died laughing when I first went in to the dog house you get for free and found out I could put down one dungeon trophy and the 30 slot chest and thats it 😂 I spent like 30 mins completelly baffled and laughing at that ffs.. the limit makes sense tho because it all takes server space but for them to sell such massive castles and shit ans then you can't do much decorating is stupid..
If it's not related to your subscription status it's probably a console limit, especially if they're still supporting the PS4/XB1 generation. FF14 had similar problems when they were still supporting older generation consoles
Vampirism can be gotten for free in game if you can find a vampire to bite you. Usually if you hang around one of the vampire shrines you can get somebody who will offer a bite. Same thing for werewolves
Meh you might have to wait a while for someone to do it for free. People usually charge a small fee ingame now seeing as you can only do it once a week or something
There are nice players who will do it if you ask, it's how I got it, and now I'm on the very long path to getting level 10 so I can do the same for others
This happened a while ago but I tried to get a werewolf to bite me and the dude scammed me out of like 10k gold. @@Lovefromwcu1 Shouldn't the player be made aware of stuff like that through the game before they make the purchase then, and not have to rely on the internet or playing the game for many hours to learn that? I've seen a few games have simple disclaimers like, "this content can be unlocked through X currency/progression as well". So not informing the player of their choices when it's so easy, and especially when there's SO MUCH STUFF in the microtransaction store, seems like a deliberate trap for newcomers.

I played ESO consistently for years. I personally found the subscription a pretty decent deal for myself who played so consistently. I didn't get it for the first few months and had no problems, but once I wanted to get into crafting, the subscription was a must. That said, I knew so many people who were spending probably hundreds of dollars a month, some of the houses are well over a hundred to begin with. The crown crates are straight up just predatory bullshit
exactly i just afk on their twitch streams to get their free crates or get them with dlc pre-orders. I've been playing eso probably since 2019 and i wanted to get eso+ but kinda guessed that i just wanted dlc and not the extra stuff with the membership so i havent invested in it. The fear of missing out with a lot of the crown store stuff is way too predatory i feel into that trap before and try to get what i can for free now
@@arseyne honestly it's not bad they give you a monthly allowance of crowns. And the crafting bag is definitely worth it it's hard to play without it once you've used it. It's nice being able to go through a whole dungeon without being full at the end and unable to pick up your end reward
“You can play without this item yes, but it’s completely necessary for crafting” is bull to me. I can’t say much because I did buy eso+ mostly for the fact that I wanted to experience stuff without being “held back” in a way but the idea of it is bull and even in other comments on this video you can see ESO white knights defending this game with all there might. Now my opinion is if you have the money to enjoy the game and your not putting yourself at risk do it your decision. But at the end of the day, it is very predatory.
As for the pointless water area in that house, one thing you can do is craft platforms as furniture and create a dock. Put some dock related stuff out there, maybe an npc houseguest or two, and you got yourself a "lived in " area that was literally nothing before

When ESO first came out I spent the whole summer playing it, You could only become a werewolf by activating a monument that only activated once an hour to one person. Or by a player giving it to you but they could only do it once a week I think . I got the beast blood by my friend "DrSmokingBud" who I thought was an actual doctor, he wasn't lmao.
That's not true lol. There were rare spawn werewolves that only spawned on a full moon around the map. You needed to get attacked by them to contract the disease. It was either that, or get bitten by another player. Idk where you got the monument from lol.
One guy I sometimes play with bought like 100+ gamble boxes to get that bear with the moose horns mount. Paying MORE than what mickyD spent. He had only been playing for a couple of months. It was insane. The mount didn't even look good, nor did it fit the aesthetic of his character. He basically fronted the costs for all the megaservers across all platforms for like an hour. Moral of the story: Gambling sucks, whales are a thing.
This first-hand video approach to what you receive in game for your Dollar is a lot better for viewers to understand than most youtubers who only quickly slap a few numbers on screen.
The only things in the shop in old ESO were Imperial upgrade and one horse, IIRC. And they were WAY cheaper than stuff in store nowadays. I miss the old ESO and it's competent and passionate dev team.
I beta tested ESO, too and loot crates weren't a thing back then and this is only one example, meaning they added tons of microtransactions to the game If you hate a game, atleast be honest with your critique on it.
This monetization style has killed so many games for me. It's not just the store and not just the constant advertising, it's also the game design that suffers.

So they can't be too greedy, otherwise they lose customers, or don't have them to begin with. And I'm absolutely in favour of supporting companies that offer a good product for a fair price. I've spent money in a couple f2p games before. Because those games are fair, both in terms of pricing and of being able to play without having to spend. I gave them money because I wanted to, because the product they offer is enjoyable and I wanted to give something back.
So glad to see you do more ESO! With that said the store is awful for new players, since they wont know that many things are either free, easy to earn, or just cost gold to purchase. DLC/Chapters are the only thing worth investing in the crownstore tbh
The house interiors seem oddly scaled, compared to the walls and stairs the character looks 5'4". Somewhat similar to how the main door in the Forbidden Zone in Fallout New Vegas: Old World Blues is scaled. Roughly twice the regular size.

... I may have been a crown crate addict at one point. I actually enjoy playing ESO in small bursts and i use my crowns to decorate my digital home because I will never own a real home. Because my mortgage is spent in ESO homes.
I love ESO - sunk so much time before buying anything - and never felt needing to actually buy anything. Craft bag is the only thing that really feels predatory - but it can overcome by not hoarding and organizing. Only ever bought crowns for DLCs which are generally worth it.
The bag upgrades don’t transfer to other characters lol. Plus the only other method to increase the bag space per character is to use crowns or to buy it with in game gold. The cost ramps up per upgrade And the 13,000 thieves Oasis thing is a house not a dlc. You could buy several major dlcs and still have left over crowns compared to the giant house purchase
Yeah the bag upgrades with in game gold are cheap but get progressively more expensive. You never have to pay a cent. Daily writs give you extra gold, playing the game, etc even casually playing. Those crown store bag upgrades are predatory.
Few notes: the bag upgrades can be gotten with ingame gold, and the crown crate consumables are outclassed by crafted consumables. Most of the houses that are always in the crown store can be bought with gold. And for the housing, you can place your mounts and pets like furnishings, and even set them on paths to walk around your house. And you can make a dock with furnishings yourself down in the ocean. The vampirism and lycanthropy both can be given for free by other players. There no P2W parts to the crown store, it's either pay for convenience or cosmetic. Though you spending crowns on many of these things show how the crown store is predatory towards people who don't know better. If you want someone to help you settle into ESO, lemme know.
Filling out home instances was definitely fun, Micky, the rp guild I was in would swap to different homes every session to keep everything from being too samey and it was pretty cool seeing all the decorations and themes
my god the amount of editing just on the first mins of the vid, i alrdy know this video will be a treat. also fun fact, there are crown to gold exchange discord specificly made to trade gold for crowns, so basicly you give the person the gold and he gifts you the item or dlc or whatever from the crown store. it also comes with a witness and if any of em tries to run off the person gets refunded and the person who ran gets blacklisted from the discord. after each transaction the person gets a point to his profile to show how many succesful transactions he did to see if he's trustworthy.
I played a LOT of ESO a few years back, I remember basically none of it beyond grinding white gold tower and my guild's daily quest run. The clearest memory I have is hanging out in that big mansion player owned house with most of the people in our guild. They had a training dummy set up while people tweaked their build to max their damage.
@@pedropedro1 they literally give out the stuff he gotten from the crates for free in mass quantities, and literally everything he got from them was more easily obtainable and cheaper to get in game than to use the crates. The potions and food from the crates really only serve the function of breaking down into gems to buy specific items you want from the crates. even the xp scrolls. Nobody is buying crown crates for a couple potions that they can make with less than 5 minutes of work or are literally given hundreds of for free which the game is pretty transparent about. The real pay to win practices comes with the release of new dlcs which introduce new sets that end up being overpowered in pvp and end up being nerfed whenever a new dlc comes out.
@@mihawk508 I mean when they release new Mythic items they're always broken making people buy them. "But you have to farm them in game", it's just pay2win with extra steps. When a overpowered item is literally locked behind a paywall that's the definition of pay2win. They also allow RMT and buying in game gold with crowns, essentially cutting out the middle man and not needing to even farm items and just buy any gear, paying for trials, specific dungeon gear or upgrades etc. This isn't too bad because it can all be farmed in game, well if you have the corresponding DLC or subscription you've paid for that is.
I’m surprised once he wanted to just get rid of it he didn’t just buy the DLC stories. Would be awesome to see him play through some of the storylines. Also, if you are trying to get ESO and not sub, and just want expansions, get the high isle (or whatever expansion is out) collection set. Comes with all the previous expansions plus extra “collection” stuff if you’re into the mounts and stuff. Probably the best deal, I got the non collector one for 20$.
I just bought the Necrom Deluxe Collection on sale for $23. From what I am seeing online, the story content from each expansion will alone make that price worth it. If I enjoy the game enough, I will wait until the upcoming expansion goes on sale in however many months and buy it, hopefully for under $20. Outside of future expansions and the initial cost of entry, it sounds like everything else is not worth it.

TESO is my MMO of choice and I am glad to see you cover it some more. Believe me even with my probably thousand or so hours sunk into the game I still just stick to buying Expansions/DLC since that's proper content. I have plenty of cosmetics, mounts, pets, etc, from just grinding out the game. So that works for me. I always ward other potential players away from spending any cash for that reason. But man, it's painful seeing ya spend dosh on things you *can* get through gameplay. Anyways
Honestly in my own opinion the best thing you can buy is the helper followers, yeah they do everything that's already free in game but I like being able to stop mid-whatever and sell, decon, fence, and then put the rest in my bank. There's a few other things less gratifying that I bought too but I believe the followers really helped enhance my experience, I also got them all over a span of like 2 years so I don't feel like I dumped to much to fast and have got their worth out of it.
I can't wait for TES6 where Bethesda will hopefully give us a subscription option to remove weight that doesn't give us an in game option like Skyrim where you can enchant armor to do that.
I recommend going through the zones in order of release because there are some characters that you meet in base game zones that appear around the newer dlcs and chapter zones.
There's a lot of the store that is paying for convenience. The assistants can be summoned anywhere and used by players in your group, between the merchant and banker you can practically remove the need for visiting towns.
Which seems stupid to me since "going" to town is just a teleport and doesn't take any time. Maybe it would make sense if this were EverQuest and travel was actually a game mechanic instead of a lie.
The best thing to do is probably pay for a month of Eso plus and rush through all the dlc main story quests if you have the time but I would suggest just playing the free base story quests with the alliances and the coldharbour planemeld.
"Its literally just gambling, you might say it isnt but to me it is" No, Micky, it LITERALLY is. You're paying a Khajit real money for him to shuffle a deck of cards and lay down a hand for you. Then you lift the cards and either win or lose depending on random chance. Except you can't win. You liteally cannot win, because none of the items have any value whatsoever. At least with online Poker you have the chance to get money back out of it when the cards favor you.
You can do daily and weekly challenges to get a currency called endeavors that can be spent on stuff that are in crown crates but I mean obviously it’s terribly slow
I've played ESO for years now and get a lot of enjoyment out of the community and game. I am ashamed to say I have taken advantage of that 21k crown pack deal a few times... but I'll say 1.) I'm a veteran player, so the game is providing me with enough entertainment I keep coming back/can justify it and 2.) it's absolutely unnecessary to "play" the game and is really just frivilous (fun house, cool cosmetics, new mount, etc). No new player should feel compelled to buy crowns. New players already get a lot of sweet deals to get all the expansions up to the current one bundled in their base game (seriously do NOT buy just the base game, they are ALWAYS bundling it and it's worth the few dollars more than having to buy them later). ESO+ (I get charged 45 every three months for it) pays for itself in crowns, the craftbag, and ALL DLC. There's really never a need to buy the DLC when ESO+ is cheaper, comes with nice extras and you only need to sustain it as long as you're playing. I won't say it's not scammy and overpriced at times... I'm guilty of closing my eyes in shame as I hit buy on a mount that looks cool lol, but I do think there is enough content and an ever-growing list of things you can do in the game that justifies some of the "just for fun" expense associated with the hobby. I have many friends who picked the game up when it was 15$ and are happily enjoying their experience without having spent anything else. Does it suck we can't do all the content together all the time (and that really boils down to a few select dungeons more than anything)? I mean maybe? But it never stops us from having a blast with the base game. They're not serious players, they don't need the craft bag and they are still slowly working through the massive main story. I've always assumed the store is more geared towards players like me who are ESO+ (so you have crowns) or are just looking for cool new things from time to time. I guess all that to say, imo, it's complicated lol. But I do think new players can have a great time and truly do not need to buy anything after getting the base game (and whatever expansions were bundled with it). I play everyday and am still enjoying what the game offers, I came to it when EQ2 was dying and haven't looked back.
pointless fact the first instance of a microtransaction that i could find was from an arcade game in 1990 called Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone in which there was an in game store that you could purchase things from using the correct amount of quarters. unless you consider buying health using quarters a micro transaction then i think 1985's gauntlet would have been the first i think (i could very much be wrong)

This is a thing many ignore, a theme park MMO is among the most expensive vedeogames to make, sustain infrastructure and develop content for. It is literally impossible to sustain an MMO of the Scale of ESO and other mayor titles with just a buy to play model. So they either have to implement a mandatory subscription, of an "extensive" monetization to be able to sustain the game.
@@byletheisner5006 And ESO goes and implement both, that's why people complain about it, that subscription is not "optional" and everyone knows it lol.
You don't have to buy the vampire or werewolf thing. You can get vampirism or lycanthropy by getting bit by NPCs or other players. You can also cure it via some quests and potions, just like in the mainline games.
Necroing this question, I agree that the scale is weird but it's definitely because of the game perspective. Probably would feel incredibly claustrophobic and nausea inducing if they made the houses smaller with the way the camera is placed.

I will say you're right the crafting bag should be included in the game to make it less of a hassle to play. The game can be a lot of fun with the various stories in the zones that's what I like getting into. Fun video! 😄
ESO I only spend money on what I want outside of monthly. If you spend it just to see if its worth it, its a bad time all around. I enjoy the game, but any helpful items in the cash shop are traps (You get em for free all the time), and the motifs, and houses, most of them you can get in game. PS: You can earn crown crate stuff by doing daily endeavors. And furniture, 99% of it is in game. Another trap for newbies. Inventory capacity? It costs almost nothing in gold to do so. Just a waste of crowns and another trap.

The collab we needed
Yep basically my opinion of ESO
Joov spotted.
I'm subscribed to both of you guys😁
@@alexanderrahl7034 you get Crowns once for the yearly sub, monthly for the slightly more expensive monthly sub.

Yeah I managed to do that for a werewolf, and my character still is a werewolf, it's really fun, lmao.
This happened a while ago but I tried to get a werewolf to bite me and the dude scammed me out of like 10k gold. Asshole knew what he was doing because I saw him bite someone else right in front of me before claiming that "no I bit you" when he just did his attack animation at me. I wanted to note that most of the smaller houses can be bought with gold in game. Almost everything that isn't a huge mansion fits in this cstegory.
The house you ended up buying is one you can earn through an achievement and buy with gold.
you can even buy a lot of the mansions with gold that aren't limited time lol
If you can pay to skip content in a game that means that it is worth money to not have to play the game.
@@sp0ckz0mbi3 pay to skip overland content for the house? I guess... but it's not like you can pay to skip actually difficult or time consuming content. And you will don't get the achievements related to the content (although you do get the achievement for owning the house itself).
When ESO releases its new Necrom chapter, you should do a video on Tamriel Rebuilt, specifically walking around the Necrom part of the map

Sure, a company's goal is to make money. That's how capitalism works. But if they offer a product, they also need customers that buy the product. So they can't be too greedy, otherwise they lose customers, or don't have them to begin with.

The cost ramps up per upgrade
And the 13,000 thieves Oasis thing is a house not a dlc.
What people have been asking for for decades:
Main line TES co-op mode
What we got:
"This one suggests you buy a crate from the store"
"is it really a reward if I bought it?" is the question that separates the pay pigs from the commissioners

after each transaction the person gets a point to his profile to show how many succesful transactions he did to see if he's trustworthy.

It's honestly really bad, BUT thank fuck it isn't p2w
It’s bad but it’s completely optional. Majority of the items are cosmetic and at least it isn’t p2w

Another way to describe it: the game is designed to be inconvenient so they can sell you stuff.
The best thing to do is probably pay for a month of Eso plus and rush through all the dlc main story quests if you have the time but I would suggest just playing the free base story quests with the alliances and the coldharbour planemeld.
"Its literally just gambling, you might say it isnt but to me it is"
No, Micky, it LITERALLY is.
Micky I like seeing you have a good time with any Scrolls game.

I could be wrong but I don't think a Micky D video has told me to fuck off in a while. Warms my heart, honestly. :)
You can do daily and weekly challenges to get a currency called endeavors that can be spent on stuff that are in crown crates but I mean obviously it’s terribly slow
There's so many free mods for Skyrim that give you vastly more impressive player homes than that.
Hey Micky I hope you feel better soon man, we all love you ❤
I've played ESO for years now and get a lot of enjoyment out of the community and game.
All of those dances in the intro were mesmerizing.
lol extreme example as you show the band extreme on the tv. im old too i appreciate the reference. now thats komedy
oy i got a heart from mickey d, i can die happy now. mr mickey please steal my music, its free.
I love this type of videos. It was random and fun. Just two friends chilling and making fun. Hope to see more from two of you!
YES
Will it be more ESO videos?
How's it goin basement legends?
Not "to you it seems like gambling" IT IS GAMBLING. It literally is the definition of gambling. This is why there are several countries that have passed laws against this shit.
Locked branch of Skyrim SE updated just 5 hours ago, is the whole new micro transaction revive methinks
Please do some more eso content!
Eso is so chill and relaxing, and its a perfect vibe to mix with the ol Micky D formula
lmao its so chill, look at how terribly monetized by a morally bankrupt corporation it is. But thank god it is chill. This is why video games are so terrible, Please stop playing them.
Thanks Todd for letting me pay for a game I bought and then pay more
Thanks Todd to not shut the servers down because nobody pays for them
This is a thing many ignore, a theme park MMO is among the most expensive vedeogames to make, sustain infrastructure and develop content for.
Im very glad someone of ur channel size uses the term for what these new games do "predatory microtransactions"
You don't have to buy the vampire or werewolf thing. You can get vampirism or lycanthropy by getting bit by NPCs or other players. You can also cure it via some quests and potions, just like in the mainline games.
Oh I most DEFINITELY want to see you do the campaign in Imperial City. That should make for an amazing episode.
What the hell is wrong with scale in this game? And I’m not talking about giant dog mount etc. Who the hell made those homes? Giants from Skyrim?
Necroing this question, I agree that the scale is weird but it's definitely because of the game perspective. Probably would feel incredibly claustrophobic and nausea inducing if they made the houses smaller with the way the camera is placed.
There are music boxes obtainable from archeological excavations.
Fuck microtransactions. The more we put up the worse it gets. It's nice to hear someone say "these are my favourite games but I'm not gonna shill"
My theory is that 2 companies made this game. The first one made a really good game and sent it to zenimax, then the big Z got a 2nd team to absolutely fuck it up.
I’ve played every elder scrolls game and tried ESO for a number of hours. Maybe I’m just cynical but I could never shake the feeling that every single aspect of the game was to tease you with enough content to keep you playing for as long as possible and annoy you enough to spend money. I never got that feeling of exploration like the actual games
Can't relate, I found questing in ESO to be more fun than Skyrim or Oblivion. The scenery is unique and the older quests are well written.
For real, it doesn't even feel like elder scrolls, it feels like mobile game levels of shading, lore dumps, mob AI. I have a friend and we used to play the Neverwinter MMO, we played through ESO together for about 2 months and it was just sooo bland, we had more fun on the community made quests in Neverwinter than we did in ESO, didn't have to spend money on Neverwinter to have fun🤷♂️
@@LadyAsteria58 autism speaks
@@LadyAsteria58 agreed I find eso the best elder scrolls game since morrowind. It has the best lore and writing since tes 3. I think people who don’t like aren’t true elder scrolls fans becuase it’s so rich with lore it’s amazing. People act like zos has a gun to their head making them pay for in game items lol it’s all optional you don’t need to buy any of those things its extra
If you don’t want it don’t buy it you can play without it.
@@jigglypuff3311 sounds like you aren’t a real elder scrolls fan if you are upset over “lore dumps”
Considering it had the deepest and richest lore since morrowind. Skyrim was a drip in the bucket compared
To eso in the lore dept.
The only reason I buy any crown crates is for the emotes, it may be because I use them for various vids but other than that I steer clear of them. I will say you're right the crafting bag should be included in the game to make it less of a hassle to play.
A lot of the base houses and stuff that can be bought in the crown store can be gotten or be done in the game.
Just a waste of crowns and another trap.
yeah! i enjoy the game but the crown store is such a predatory and misleading trap
"Dunmer Mormon" made me spit my drink
Microtransactions should be shamed and not normalized, the amount of content and often useless content that's created just to squeeze a little money out of dedicated fans is genuinely disgusting and scummy.
I'm saving this bad boy video for when I'm at work. Cheers micky for the long concert bro I really enjoy it.
Micky D spent 150 euro to make me depressed
