The most amazing thing for me is the fact it is based on a real life character, Anne Lister and her wish to be accepted for who she is. I’m straight but I can understand her struggle. She kept a detailed journal of her life, struggles and loves. Amazing woman ahead of her times. The saddest thing of all she died so young at 49.
Gentleman Jack quickly became one of the best period drama shows I've seen this year. The foot-tapping music, the electric dialogue, it's just so fresh. A drama like you've never seen before. And your editing delivers that upbeat pacing marvellously! I love it.
Season 2 is on it’s way, finally! I used to work in the film industry (in the US), and I’ve recommended the series to all of my former colleagues, who usually are harsh critics of pretty much everything. They all LOVE Gentleman Jack; the screenwriting, pacing, editing, performances, music; everything is done so well! No one understands why it didn’t win a plethora of awards!
This was a FANTASTIC series! I'm a straight woman, but I've always been the black sheep, and before becoming disabled with Chronic Illnesses/Pain, I spent quite a few years travelling/working all over the British Isles, for several years, including a 6 month cycle tour all over the uk. I felt a kind a kinship with Anne Lister eg. Taking her giant thermometer with her on her travels 😅. Being a cyclist/long distance walker/hill (mountain) walker etc, I too was obsessed with the weather 😅. She would have been a fascinating person to talk to. Shame on the BBC, for not continuing this incredible series.
I have always considered myself 99% straight as a woman. Hayley Atwell, Gal Gadot are in that 1%. Now I have to go down to 98%. Anne Lister what have you done to me??

Back with another comment (can't stop watching this). The sound edits are really great. Not just the timing of walking, tapping the cane, etc., but the balance of the music so that you can hear the pen scratch the paper, hear her pull the diary out (you can almost hear the fabric covering on the diary somehow?)... it's lovely. The first time I watched it I didn't even notice how well-timed it all was (because it WAS so well-timed)...but the "lighter" being lit struck me and then I couldn't un-hear any of it. Anyway, sooooo good. Off to watch it one million more times!

Nicely edited collage from GJ series one. This has been one of the best TV productions ever IMHO. Brilliant. So pleased there’s a series two in the making. If it’s half as good as this, it’ll still be fabulous. All the actors are just perfect, as is the dialogue, scenery, music, casting, costumes... you name it. I’ve watched the entire series twice and will be watching again soon. There’s so much crammed into each episode that a second viewing (at least) is essential.
