      I have the iPad pro 11 inch 2018, which has the bionic chipset. My stepmom has the newest iPad Pro 12 inch, and there is definitely a huge difference. Huge improvements from the 2018. My ipad struggle with some of the newer apps.

    Very honest and helpful overview. Many thanks Patrick. I must admit, If I was thinking of updating my iPad, I would definitely be looking at deals on the M1 Pro. I’ve only ever picked up Apple products second hand. I can’t really think of a reason to change that approach.

    I have the iPad pro M1 and iPad air M1 that I use for music production. I also have a base 9th gen iPad that I use to sample from. The only thing that bothers me is that I have to get the new pencil for the pro and air. I can say one of the best things about the M1 iPad is that no matter what I connect to them, the iPad recognized it immediately. Synths, controllers, sampler, it recognized them without having to manually connect them. I tell everyone just get an any M1 iPad and your set. As for storage, any separate dock will work just fine.

    Hi, Having just been given a fat cheque by my Dad for Christmas, I'm finally in the market for an ipad pro purely for music making. The main thing I want is more hard drive space as my 32gb ipad sends most of what apps I have on there to the cloud and unless I have internet connection it renders it useless or rather, somewhat limited as a mobile music making tool. So I just looked on the apple website which is absolutely bloody useless ! Tells you all the other stuff about the ipad pro but doesn't mention hard drive size at all. Can you please recommend a specific model of ipad pro that has a whopping hard drive? Ideally a TB would be wonderful if they do one that size?
    Cheers 🙂

    I bought a base model iPad 9 just a year ago. As I only sketch the basis of my song on it and do the final recording on the Mac, that iPad has plenty of power for my use. My 5th gen iPad, that I use for everyday stuff, like web surfing and such, is getting a little long in the tooth, tho... So maybe an iPad Air M1 for music, the iPad 9 for everyday use and retiring the old 5th gen might be a plan... Gotta do some soul searching on that one...

    Good report Patrick, thanks. Yes, the UK suffers now they cannot just put a £ sign instead of $, due to the exchange rate almost being at parity in practice. The iPad presentation by Apple was a wee bit slick - I did not realise the Pro did NOT have the front facing camera moved. Anyway, personally, I want the 14” iPad Pro that’s maybe here in a year. Not saying I can afford it. That’s my upgrade on iOS after my M1, no hurry. Take care all.

    Patrick: Thanks for another informative video. I have been a long-term subscriber. I have always wondered your preference for GarageBand - IPad or MacBook Pro. Do you have a video on that, or could you make one? I use MacBook. Is there any advantage to making the switch ( as I do own an iPad)? If so, is it possible to transfer files over, etc? Sounds like it would be another great video!

      Hey Peter! Thanks for sticking with the channel for so long, I really appreciate it.
      The unhelpful answer is “it depends”. I think GB on Mac is more powerful for ‘proper’ editing and mixing, but GB on iPad’s touch interface is great and the iOS App ecosystem is incredible.
      Great idea on a comparison video, cheers!

    Thanks for that. I was hanging out for an ZM2 iPad as I bought my 2020 model about a week before the announced the M1. That’s just my luck though.
    I hoped that the pro chips would lead to pro apps, and I think we all know what I mean musicwise.
    However, watching yesterday’s promos it is obvious that Apple just don’t care about musicians and just want to screw more money out of us with a promise of nothing at all.
    I’m sticking with my 22.9 inch 2020 Pro model for now thanks very much.
    I mean, do they think we’re stupid?

    I have been an apple mac user since 1987. I was a mac fanatic since 1987 to 2014. Since 2014 mac is slow as shit. Mac brags about their M1 and M2 chips but benchmark testing shows that intel core9 chip out does Apple M chips. Mac computers are suppose to be for the musicians, film makers, and photographers, etc. But with their 8gb memory and 250 to 512 gb hard drives computers can you even say they are for musicians, film makers, and photographers????? Apple is constantly striping away ports which musicians, film makers, and photographers need. Apple air is down to 1 headphone jack and 1 usb port. And they think they are the computer company for musicians???? If it were for awesome mac programs like Logic Pro X and iMovie, I would have left them years ago. The truth is Windows PC computers like LG Gram with their 32gb memory and 2 TB hard drive is blowing mac computers out of the water. The LG gram even has way more useful ports than the macs wimpy 1 headphone jack and 1 usb port. If the worst CEO ever (Tim Cook) ever decides to make Logic Pro a subscription, I will be leaving mac for good. Like I said, at this point in time I love their software, I do not like their computers. Tim Cook needs to be fired. He has not done shit since he took over. Practically zero innovation, and prices of mac computers are out of touch with the modern day buyers. Mac is ridiculously high in price for 1 headphone jack and 1 usb port computers with wimpy 8gb memory and 250gb hard drives.

      @jjjddd231 2 роки тому

      Tim Cook's background was in accounting. He rescued Apple when it was in serious financial difficulty. That means charging a higher and higher premium for Apple products and managing to hold on to a significant portion of the die-hards. You're right about the lack of innovation but that's nothing new - the last real innovation was the original iPhone.

    • @tgrimes175
      @tgrimes175 2 роки тому

      @@jjjddd231 , no , steve jobs saved apple and created the most legendary innovations of any computer company. Steve Cook is destroying apple with his over priced computers. Apple has slow stock computers that are over priced. 8gb/256gb is slow as shit compared to LG stock 32/2TB for the same price.
