The Moment I saw notification on my phone Surfaced Studio Disintegration Effect..I knew thats what I asked you few weeks ago.....Thanks Bro....First thing I will do Tomorrow Morning is Watch it complete....Thanks a lot..
Nice tutorial. I particularly like mirroring the pants to fill in the bottom, of the frame, stacking Chroma keys to clean up the Difference Key edge, splitting the Displacement into two instances (one for each axis) and how you used Extract to generate the fade out. Some clever steps I didn't anticipate. Last version of Ae I had was CS6. If memory serves didn't the older Fractal Noise plug in let one set A/B colors? This would remove the need for a tint effect on the noise layers. Looks like Turbulent Noise only generates black/white? The step where you change the Displacement channel to Luminance is unnecessary--with a gray image the red, green and blue channels all match 1:1 with the Luma. Now, if you'd gone with LIGHTNESS (a weighted luma curve), that would affect the effect, but that was technically a wasted step. An unimportant observation on my end. Finally, I don't think I'd realized Walter is a head shorter than you before! ;)
can you please make a tutorial on how you made the smoke particle that vanished over your body after you threw the energy ball at your self. i hope i explained that correctly. the character on the right threw the energy ball and then that particle smoke that vanished over his body. THX
One thing i would change is the spead of the desintegration to the spead of the emergy ball, but with a ramp up to the spead of the energy ball so it would look more forcefull.
Hello Tobias, i have a question, the tutorial can be apply if we have two personn on one video, or we need absolutely to do two different video ??? (Sorry for the mistake i'm french) I love your work 🔥🔥🙏
Love watching your videos. Learn so much. Hey can you do a video on how to do Shadows in AF. Like say I want to make someone small in a box but how would I put his shadow in the background ?
Thank you :) I'd simply take a copy of the layer with the person, tint it black, blur it out and then place it on the ground/wall where I'd want the shadow to fall
Yes you can :) But it's not available in older versions of AE (I believe it came in with CC 2015?) so I didn't use it to keep it consistent for everyone. But yes, that is a very useful option!
this is awesome! can you do a tutorial on how to magically morph into a different person please. I couldn't really find any tutorial on how to anywhere.
I just scaled it up, made it fade out and added a lens flare and a bunch of particles. Got a tutorial on how to add particles in AE here :) ua-cam.com/video/rrJltaqlNxE/v-deo.html

@@SurfacedStudio example, I want to do an disintegration effect for a Game Character but green screen effect can't be done, so basically, I want that Background of the game where the Character of the Game is and disintegrate the character? If you know what I mean by that?
Not sure if that's easy to do, depending on your footage. E.g. when you remove the character from your video, what will you show in the 'hole' that you are going to have in your footage? If it's not a still shot (e.g. your camera is moving) then that is not an easy thing to fix as you need to reconstruct the 3D scene and track that in place to create the background you need to remove / disintegrate the foreground character
@@SurfacedStudio i managed to do a Still background but with the moving camera is a toughy like you said .. green screen is probably the easier option. And thanks for the tips. Much appreciated
Surfaced Studio yep stranger Things is FANTASTIC...but I think you might like Gravity Falls...I saw it when I was kid..but...you know...it’s kinda cool 👍❤️
Yu, it's the Alienware 15 R3 - you'll be hearing more about my new laptop pretty soon :) I do want to get a bit into the tech side of things since I get so many questions about it :)
how do you know things you do? I mean you would have to learn and understand so much b4 doing this. Precomposing and then using instad of difrectly, getting adjustment layer and using different layer to do the displacement. Just wow.
It's all about experimenting :) It's the same as people knowing how to draw or cook - if you do it often enough you can envision the end product and then slowly (through trial and error) find your way to something that works. This effect is not my first attempt I can assure you :D
Surfaced Studio I was asked to train basics of AE at an institute. I know basics yes, i can make some motion graphics as well. But when i came across your videos and a few others, i declined that job offer as I was nowhere close to this and it would be setting a bad example for students as well.
I think the only people setting bad examples are those who pretend to know everything already. If you're humble, willing to learn and share, it's always positive :) And we all start somewhere, some of my first effects and projects were pretty horrible - but it was fun so I just kept going
Surfaced Studio definitely. Even i like AE, havent been in practice for a while as i have moved to 3D modelling. But thanks. I have to come try AE again!
Surfaced Studio to build off what Tobias writes above about being humble and ready to learn, I've been doing CG for over 30 years now, and every week I'm watching other people's tutorials and reading web pages or books. I could tell you at least dozen other ways to do a disintegration effect, but I've never seen one set up quite like how Tobias did this one. I particularly like how he used the extract effect to wipe away the little chunks. That was particularly clever. Software like Ae or Nuke, Fusion or Hitfilm is insanely complex and powerful and not even the programmers of the software know everything it can do. I had an FXHOME staff member comment on one of my tutorials that I'd come up with something they didn't realize Hitfilm can do! Always learn, always question and always be willing to share with others and we'll all get better together.
:-( Well, it had to happen at some point. You have got so far ahead of the version that I have that I won't be able to follow what you do. If you ever do things in the future that someone with a version 4 years old can follow, let me know. I'll still be following your channel just cause your a good guy and hey... I have HitFilm too. ;-)
At which point exactly can you no longer follow along? I'm always trying to stay aware of version differences - which feature that I am using is not available to you?
Use fractal noise instead of Turbulent noise, precomp your noise layers, and stack up luminance keys instead of Extract (one for dark, one for light). That should cover differences between CS6 and CC 2018. Same notes for Hitfilm, except in Hitfilm skip the tint effect on the Fractal Noise and just set the Fractal black to 50% grey. The Energy fractal looks similar to the Ae Dynamic fractal.
I have CC 2014. I noticed several things the newest version has that I am pretty sure I don't. I typically watch everything you put out a time or two then when I've got the time give them a try. It was my first thought late last night that I probably couldn't do it with the version that I have, and my lesser understanding of what you were doing. THANK you so much for responding, this is one of the big reasons I have subscribed, you care. Perhaps I am wrong and I can. I may give it a shot today and get back to you.
It all depends on what your ambitions are, your work ethic and what you want to do with your life and your career. In the end you should always get informed about the industry you are trying to join rather than drawing it up in your mind as a 'perfect working place'. The VFX in particular can be a very competitive field and everyone has to decide if that's where they want to break into. For me, I enjoy it as a hobby - but everyone is different :)
I also enjoy it as a hobby...I m from India...and so many of my friends are working in the vfx industry....They have very hectic life, no personal life and no job security.....
Hello Tobias. I don't know if you'll ever read this, but I want to say thank you for all your free and so well explained tutorials.
I read all comments, even if I can no longer reply to them all :) Thank you for yours, it's nice to hear you enjoy my tutorials!
Please start doing more tutorials often Tobias, We need more of your content!

Brilliant. Learned a lot
this is a BOOM!!!thanks for teaching professional videos for free!i will never forget you!!!!:D

Unboxing is on my secret channel, the review and a more in-depth discussion will follow on this channel ;)
Awesome. I love this channel
:D
My use for this is gonna be in a music video so i can skip a few of these steps just to give the background a trippy distorted type look to
Use it for anything that you want :) It's a pretty versatile (and easily customised) effect
How do u make the energy ball expand upon impact rather than it going out of frame ?
Check out some of my particle tutorials :) I just created a separate particle effect to make it 'explode' instead of fly off screen
Hi tobias, i was wondering how you made the ball explode?
I just scaled it up, made it fade out and added a lens flare and a bunch of particles. Got a tutorial on how to add particles in AE here :) ua-cam.com/video/rrJltaqlNxE/v-deo.html
very nice :)
10:42 we can even use Matte choker right??
Use anything you want :) As long as you get a fairly clean key for your foreground element it should work fine
Surfaced Studio thanks
This was uploaded on my birthday
