Nice tutorial, just letting you know the Sabre effect can be applied to the inside and the outside seperately, so if you think the inside is getting too intense, you can turn it down...disintegration tutorial would be great!
Quick question...on the mask..you did a keyframe scaling on the mask path...but when I did it, in order t make the mask move...had to do the scale of the layer.....how did you make it shrink and grow through using the key frame for path
That's a great turtorial. But how to create a shodow effect from 0:40, where your fingers are stopping the light? So basically the light is floating between your fingers.

Thank you for the video, i will be following so to further my skills in this software. I do have one issue i seem to be running into, and if anyone who is reading this can figure out what im doing wrong, i don't mind the assitance.... When i get to the solid layer for spherical Mask, it dosent seem to do any movement when i follow instruction for mask path. I don't know if i have had done something wrong in the settings or if im clicking the wrong icons, but when i go to change the size on Mask Path it stays at that size and doesn't expand like it does at 7:34 - 7:38.
It sounds like you are not animating the mask path (you haven't enabled keyframes on the Mask Path). Please check out my basic tutorial for masking (part of my beginner series) it explains how to do that if you're new to AE: ua-cam.com/video/OzAkb7Cw0uM/v-deo.html
@@SurfacedStudio I'm having this issue too and I am keyframing the mask path. How can I get it too move? It just stays in place as a small circle when I shrink it
I see you have a lot of videos. I am looking for a tutorial to hold an object starting from an empty hand (for example to hold a lightsaber while in the initial video I have nothing in hand) Do you have a video like this? Thank you :)

I can't get the mask keyframes to work! I'm a beginner so I'm sure I'm making some dumb mistake, but the thing you did at 7:24 is not working. It won't create a new keyframe when I scale it down, it just keeps it small as if it disregards the other keyframe at four seconds. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
You need to enable the stop watch to activate keyframes on the Mask Path property. If you're new to AE, please start out with my beginner tutorial series - here's the video on masking: ua-cam.com/video/OzAkb7Cw0uM/v-deo.html
Surfaced Studio I’m having the very same problem I enable the stopwatch on mask path at 4 seconds I then go to 0secs I click on the mask just as you do in the video resize the mask using alt shift to keep it centred but then for some reason it doesn’t register the key frame and the previous key frame set at 4seconds turns grey instead of blue. But the stopwatch is still enabled
Figured it out, I was single clicking the mask. Double click mask to keep keyframe active and the scale box appears around mask. Resize and a new keyframe appears
Tiago Furtado did you figure this out? I had same problems but realised I needed to double click the mask to keep keyframe a active and the scale box them appears around mask.

Great vid! I enjoyed this. It doesn't matter because the energy ball is small but on a bigger energy ball, I think you might add like a wiggle expression (or whatever type of expression is needed) to the evolution of the light flare....hope that makes sense.
I meant some type of expression for the flare "evolution" (revolve around the flares central axis) parameter. Right now you set the flare as horizontal (from left to right - like on a clock from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock). and it never revolves. I think the evolution parameter for the flare will cause it to spin around the central axis of the flare. But instead of just spinning around 360 degree, I was thinking it might be interesting to have it sort of flicker at various angles off of the 90 - 270 degree axis (3-9 o'clock)....have it jump around (spin to various angles) over the span of 4 second for example 20 times - (4-10, 12-6, 8-2, 5-11, 2-8 o'clock....etc) It would need an expression of some type. In other words - the Flare evolution parameter is just a 360 degree dial. Use an expression that will cause the dial to move to random degree (+ or - degree) 5 times a second for 4 seconds or so until you throw the energy ball. Now I have probably confused you more than my first post....LOL....sorry about that.
Well, perhaps not "wiggle"...........For the flare evolution parameter (which should cause the flare to revolve around it's central axis) set an expression that chooses a random number between -360 to 360 5 times a second for 4 seconds. That way the flare will not just stay static/horizontal as you have it - it will sort of flicker at various evolution degrees 5 times a second for four seconds (or until you throw it). Hope I didn't confuse you more...lol.

Thats awesome. But is it the tracking that makes it seem like its actually in his hands? It looked like at parts it was actually behind your fingers at points, which is awesome and adds to the effect. I am curious how that was done. What video of yours could I check to learn that as well?
