little tip: (before pre-composing the "Yannick Medium Shot"-s) 5:48 you can add a turbulent displacement and some bulge effects on the body to make the disintegration less linear and also a bit 3d following your body

This could be used to make sandman falling apart effect too I think.
Just use the gravity to make it come down, and smaller particles with sand texture, I think it would work.
Forget the disintegration effect...how did you get the UA-cam comments to pop up on the screen like that. THAT's what I want to see!
I think what they did is 3D track the scene, and attach several comment assets to the track.

Thanks so much for demonstrating the technique without using Trapcode. Many viewers have limited budgets and it is already very expensive for Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. this was an amazing tutorial, thank you very much. I'm gonna use the first part for an animation i'm doing right now and was using particles to start a viscous disintegration, but by the time i had to actually make all the character disappear i couldn't find a satisfactory way to do with particle world and masks. i was fighting hardly against get the trapcode fora matter of honor, but i hadn't see a good soluction to the effect without plugins UNTIL NOW. thank you very much for this video,

I am so sad I have Ae CC 2014 and I cannot do the part with smaller particles because on the custom shatter map I cannot select effects and masks from the source menu under shape. If there is a way to fix this in Ae CC 2014 that would be much appreciated, for now I will just use Octagons & Squares as a replacement. Thanks!

if your watching this in 2023. AE has an effect called cc scatterize that does this in one simple effect. The way he does it here gives you more options to control the fx but if you need something quick just use cc scatterize

his creative input of information and how he presents it is like no other
My suggestion is instead of using glass as Pattern for the shatter(particle effect), you can use rhombi because it looks just like the particles in the movie
You're right, it comes close to it. The glass has more shape and size variation though, but either can work

Does not work for me. The top layer with the fractal noise and animated mask doesn't affect the shatter effect in any way. The image just explodes from the middle out in a cloud of particles.
