The biggest thing is to just have patience. Try to find ways to relay information to them in a simple way. Examples would be, 1. Use a shaken up soda bottle as an example of Henry's Law and Boyle's Law. 2. Use the egg trick with a cup of Fresh Water and a cup of Salt Water to explain Archimedes Principle. I make each class a science experiment for them, and they tend to learn a lot easier. Also make the pool work fun for them. Teach a few skills and then let them play and have a good time. Don't rush them through the skills. Make it a game for them and they will have fun and learn.
I'm hoping to get my boy doing more this summer. Do you see any problem letting kids "dive" for toys in a few feet of water with just a tank and reg in a swimming pool?
As a Scuba Instructor, I am suppose to encourage you to allow certified and insured Scuba Instructors to teach your children, once they reach the age of the minimum standard. Now with that disclaimer out of the way, I believe parents have the right to do what they want with their children. My dad started teaching me when I was 6 years old, and in tradition, I have started my oldest daughter training in the pool. She is 6 by the way. I even had her in the pool last night working on propulsion techniques. If a child is mature enough, which a parent is going to be the best at determine their child's maturity level, and a parent sees fit to strap some gear on them in the pool, then I personally would not be opposed to it. Just like a dad teaching his son how to shoot a gun, or mom teaching her daughter how to put on make up. Most kids do not go to a firearms Instructor or professional makeup artists to learn, they learn from their parents. I would definitely keep them in the shallow end of the pool though. Then once they hit that magical age, then take them to an Instructor for lessons. Just my 2 psi.
If you don't mind, I am curious why are seeking certification from padi specifically? I'm trying to understand how clients pick agencies. Thanks in advance.
TecDive the local dive shop is a padi shop. No other reason. Don't know much about the other systems. And I am padi going for my masters. The only reason I asked the age when I knew it was 10 was because he said he had his kid I believe in the pool at age 6. Just wanted to confirm nothing changed.
That girl has better buoyancy and trim than half the adults that I have seen in the water. Good job on teaching her.

I would love to learn this but frankly my feet spasms up every time I go in a pool never mind underwater. Another dream smashed.

What is the youngest that can be Padi certified
The youngest is 10 years old for certification, however, they can do the PADI Seal training starting at age 8
