  • 2015 Honda Odyssey sliding door issue, won't open, intermittently working, popping, whirling, sticking, etc. You name it, we've experienced it. This instructional video shows you how to take apart and disassemble the door to access the power door lock actuator motor and effect potential repair / replacement.
Lubricating this door actuator motor and contact surfaces fixed our intermittent door issue.
If that does not work, and you need a door lock actuator for your 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey, this may work for you:
    amzn.to/3olKqyh
I ended up replacing the entire left side door actuator assembly, Honda part #72662-TK8-A31ZA, costing about $200 at time of this writing. It solved the problem entirely.
I am not a (Honda) mechanic. Perform these tasks at your own risk.
I am not sure if these disassembly instructions work for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, or 2020 Honda Odyssey minivans. I do not know about model years other than the 2015 Honda Odyssey.

I wanted to tell everyone watching this video about an enhancement to the fix in the video. The little motor and brass worm drive that he tells you to lubricate can easily be replaced with a new one. These mabuchi motors tend to get weak over time. Lubing it like he says might help, but I think it makes sense to just replace the whole motor and be done with it. Autozone has a direct fit replacement. It's Duralast part number DLA797. Their website says it's not compatible with my 2012 honda odyssey, but it's a perfect drop in replacement as far as physical size and the pitch of the worm. I believe it's sold as a door lock motor replacement for a kia or something. One IMPORTANT thing to note is that the new motor will turn the opposite direction as the stock one on a honda odyssey... The easiest fix for this is cut the wires going to the plug that plugs into the actuator assembly and criss cross and resolder them to reverse the polarity going to the motor. This will make the Duralast motor spin the correct direction. I've reassembled it and it works perfectly

Thanks for this recommendation. The replacement DLA797 and cutting the wire to swap positive and negative worked great. Cost for motor was approx $25 at Autozone. Much better than $285 for the whole assembly at Honda.

Which side (driver or passenger) sliding door did you replace? I'm wondering if the motor turns the opposite way for the driver side and the passenger side since Honda does sell the latch assembly for the left side (the driver side) and the right side (the passenger side). Thanks for your help.

Great video!!! It did t work for me but I was able to take off the motor and comment to the other side before opening the motor to grease it. And it worked fine on the other side.
My issue is the motor in the rear fender there the rail is.

This was perfect for the wife’s 2012 Odyssey EX-L!! The local auto shop wanted $165 to diagnose and then the cost would climb from there. It took me no more than 1.5 hours to fix both doors that regularly “popped” when pulling the handle. Thank you very much!!!

@@johnolsen2042 i greased both and it continues to work for the door behind the driver. The passenger side popped a day or two after I made this comment. I ended up needing to buy the part. Unfortunately, the part referenced in the comment is through 2010 and I wasn’t confident it would work in my 2012. They don’t seem to sell just the actuator so I bought the entire assembly. This made it much more expensive as I just removed the actuator and replaced it on the original. This was done for speed and not wanting to go through the process of removing stuff that was still working. That said, I keep the assembly in the event something more breaks. Perhaps the part noted would have worked but I honestly just wanted to get the job done and rid myself of that extremely annoying popping. It’s worked ever since.

Awesome job. People may find that they have to pull hard to remove the panel. I am searching for the actuator at the moment. Don't want to pay $200 to the dealer.
My door sometimes works with the switches but almost never in the first attempt with the handles.
UPDATE: changed the motor (twice) in the actuator but that didn't solve the problem yet. I think there is something under it that is causing the problem.
Update 2: the actuator is for $40 at Honda dealership. I want to confirm first that it is bad before buying it.
Finally bought it from the dealer for$43. No it still DIDN'T fix the problem. Door opens with the remote but not smoothly with the handle. Solution: buy Sienna!

Great video. I really hope mine goes this smoothly. I need to do this for a 2001, and the other videos I've seen (for the older Odyssey's) the mechanisms were buried inside the door and took a lot of work to get them out to where you could do anything with them. The doors on those weren't open at all, like yours is. Like I said, I really hope mine is this easy. Mine is continuing to draw electricity - the lock continues to try to work - and within a few days the battery is dead. I don't want to open it up until I get the new part to make sure parts don't get lost. I'm sure I'll find out.

      @jthomasolsen 3 роки тому +1

Followup: Followed these instructions and the doors are opening and closing like new in our 2012 EX-L! The hardest part was removing the doors - you definitely have to pull on them a bit harder than feels comfortable at first. I found a trim puller tool at Wal-Mart for $5 and I would personally highly suggest it... I also lost the pin for the first handle - using the towel method in the video works brilliantly but it really causes the little "C" clip to fly! I would suggest closing all doors before doing it so it doesnt leave the car... I also found a bag of replacement clips at the local autoparts store for $5 or so.
