      to me
the sky will swallow you, carry you. in flight, in time. we, as objects of gravity, are directly afflicted by the magnetism radiating from this reflective, illusive, infinite creature. our lovers, if were lucky, can hold us like this.

I love this. I always appreciate intelligent spoken word that decidedly does not dumb itself down in order to be understood.

"So maybe I don't fear the sky, maybe I fear the alone my body will feel when the sky decides to let me go."I really love this entire poem, but this part hit me hard. Because most people aren't afraid of love, but of loss.

I think I just found a new favorite poet....
This poem is made up of a bunch of tangent ideas. All of the lines stand strongly on their own, he has a way of weaving them together to make such an eloquently cohesive piece.
Just fuckin' beautiful, there's something about this. I'm in love.

the title caught my eye! if anyone has read the outsiders, ponyboy is a character, and he is always told by one of his older mates "dig those sunsets, pony". strong poem nevertheless! enjoyed it

Am I the only one that feels like this poem is about racism? I'm genuinely curious if I'm the only one who interpreted this poem this way because I'm not seeing any comments about this point of view. (+)

There's an element of it, but it's just a part of a larger sum. This is a story about a man coming to grip with his own fear of living and experiencing the potential dangers that may include. He is being consoled to overcome these fears.

    • @geminipeterson2242

Im not sure, because is not my main language, but im gonna try.
"I feel "the moment" when the sky decides to let me go"
"From up here, everything pure in white is magnificent and unbreakable; and holy, from up here, we all have such amazing bones"
(Everything pure in white (clouds that hang, maybe the crystal), we all have such amazing bones(white))= It doesn't matter from which hight you fall or how hard, you can overcome it, anyone can.

"From up here we all have such amazing bones" I believe he means , bones as in sex . So don't fear a "lover" or the sky letting you go because the bones are such a beautiful thing to experience . Is what I interpreted .

    • @geminipeterson2242
      @geminipeterson2242 6 років тому +6

It's open for the readers interpretation, but i related that line to flight/love. The woman in the poem compares love to flight, "What has the sky ever done to you,
      that a lover has not?
Have you not been recklessly carried?"
Have you not given up control to trust something with wings?"
So, he's afraid of flying or the act of surrendering to someone only to be let go. The last line , mentioning "Amazing bones" and everyone having them. Birds have hollow bones that allow flight, human beings don't have hollow bones but we have Love, and in a way love gives you flight. Also, it could signify that flight in a plane is the closest you will ever be to actually flying besides The act of Love.

I think this poem has to do with his sexuality. Maybe a gay man embracing his homosexuality despite being raised in a seemingly conservative christian household. or maybe his struggles with it.
