  • A five unit loaded grain train battles the 2.2% grade to Mt' Lofty Station in the Adelaide Hills. In the consist today , is a vintage EMD Streamliner, still earning it's keep in 2024! Following the grain train , we catch a Eastbound Pacific National Intermodal with a EMD 'G" class loco in the consist.

    It amazing how they still use the EMD streamliners. We hardly ever see a older locomotive anymore (SD40-2, GP60 or GP40-2). Great video Gregg, hopefully it's getting colder down there. Cheers from Terry in cold Nebraska.

      Thanks Terry! It is cool to see some older power, especially since all the new stuff is so quiet and boring! The weather is starting to get better now , with cooler nights at least!
      Stay warm Sir.
      Cheers Gregg.

    Nice Gregg. That opening shot really shows how steep it is. An older gt46C in the consist as well as two Cummins powered Rail First CM class and the old streamliner CLP on that first train behind the lead EMD. A bit of variety.

      Thank you Peter! I had no idea the CM's were Cummins powered...were they originally GE or built with the Cummins? It was a great consists and I was lucky to catch it! Aiden and his Mum gave me the heads up so I owe them ...as usual!
      Cheers Gregg.

    Great video Gregg, sounded like a few cars with there brakes dragging. Good catch of the F unit. Bob

      Thanks again Bob! The early morning shadows are pretty strong under the trees , especially in the cooler Months . I couldn't smell any brakes , but maybe ? Worn wheel profiles can make noise on curves, especially "S" curves apparently? It's always cool to see a "CL' unit and there a few still in service down here!
      Cheers Gregg.

    Happy Easter Gregg. Great captures with quite the steep gradient. Those locomotives are certainly earning their keep with those trains.

      And to you SIr! It's amazing how much they can pull on a steep grade...mind you , its around 15000 HP up front ! .
      Thanks for watching!

    Soon, this will be known as the Fishplate Films Curves, I suspect, when the "new owner" moves in.

    Hi Gregg, another great view of the uphill struggle! Am I correct in thinking 5 on the point is a bit unusual for us in Oz? I've seen 4 but not 5!
    Also, how about a quick view of your build progress if its not too intrusive?
    Cheers

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  4 місяці тому

      Thanks Peter! Yes 5 locos is rare but not uncommon in the Hills! SCT often use 4 and sometimes 5 but the grain trains can have 3 if they are the new AC traction locos...but they cop a thrashing ! Progress is slow on the build , but things are happening in the background , so hopefully some news in a few months?
      Cheers Gregg.

    Sadly grain trains in SA continue to be boring, dominated by muffled (& in the case of the cm’s, ugly) locos. SSR certainly deliver the goods in that regard, if only they could visit the hills

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  4 місяці тому

      Yes Rhys , how good would SSR be in the Hills! This consist was a bit better than the usual though?
      Thanks for watching!
