    Just completed making mine and you inspired me to make one. As I get older it is more difficult to get the centre punch hole in the right position. This tool is highly accurate and works very well.

    Very nice work and great accuracy. I have a commercially made one the kids got me for Christmas, and it is great to have around when I need it. Enjoyed, cheers!

    I like this a lot! It went directly to my shop bucket list. (A Proxxon tip: put a 5 mm split lock washer between the nuts in the tool holder. Then you can adjust the friction as you prefer, and for quick and easy rotation, just loosen it up. Those nuts drove me nuts, I think they moved autonomously when I was asleep. 😅)

      I used Belleville disk washers. See www.wclco.com/belleville-disc-springs/disc-washer-description-design-considerations-load-deflection-data/

    Beautiful workmanship, great gage. I do think it's more of a gage than a tool. I wonder if an ER-16 collet would make a nice base for the optic and punch, I may try it.

    kun je mij vertellen wat voor slijpschijf je gebruikt voor het schijpen van de ponsen , het idee vind ik iets om ook te maken

      Je zal even moeten zoeken binnen het chaotische aanbod voor de beste prijs, maar ik heb mijn diamantschijven (voor ik dacht € 37 per stuk) hier vandaan: tinyurl.com/38sv3axn

      Nee, sorry. De mijne staat er nu niet tussen. Maar deze heeft ook een 60 graden rand. Wil je dezelfde als ik heb, dan kan ik wel even doorzoeken, want die diamantschijven worden in allerhande soorten en maten gemaakt. Moet het per se een van 75 mm zijn? Welke gatdiameter?

    At the 10:50 mark, what is the tool called that you used to measure the angle of the compound?

    • @Michel-Uphoff
      @Michel-Uphoff  2 роки тому +1

      That is a precision protractor. See: tinyurl.com/4kuajyf8

    Cool , unfortunately people routinely put their scribe marks .002-.004 off center to start with. They invariably fail to account for the thickness of their scribe line and scribe adjacent to the intended spot. The tool puts the punch nicely on the lines but the lines are already off center. One other thing, a conical punch is a bad idea on stainless or any work hardening metal. A drill will not want to follow that cone which is now a hardened spot and will deviate to the side. A proper punch for stainless is a triangular point which pushes the hardened metal away from the center.

    • @Michel-Uphoff
      @Michel-Uphoff  Рік тому +2

      Indeed, if you do not take the thickness of the line into account, you introduce errors of the order of half a line width. One proved method to avoid this is to draw all lines from the same 0,0 coordinate base, so that the mutual distances are perfect. Another method I use is drawing two lines from opposite sides, and punching exactly in the middle of those lines

    Brasso is junk try Meguiars clear plastic polish (made for aircraft windows) or Autosol.

    • @Michel-Uphoff
      @Michel-Uphoff  Рік тому +3

      That 'junk' worked fine for me. I have made very clear beautifully polished lenses with it. So there's no reason for me to try anything else.

      @@Michel-Uphoff That would be like someone saying "Steam power worked for me so there's no reason for me to try anything else."
      I have been through every compound in existence for every kind of finishing and brasso is at the bottom of the heap. Once you try one of the great compounds it will be like a blind man seeing for the first time. But feel free to chug chug chug along with brassssoooo.

    • @Michel-Uphoff
      @Michel-Uphoff  Рік тому +2

      Let's agree to disagree. I polished a handful of PMMA lenses in no time to a near perfect and clear surface with that cheap stuff.
