Also refrigeration is possibly the best thing about these. I don't eat these on the regular either it's only usually by necessity.
I haven't tried soylent, but have had similar experiences. Guess who found out recently that she was allergic to soy as a child? Fermented seems to be ok (i.e. soy sauce) but anything else leads to vomiting and migraines. When I was young this basically meant no food from the store nor teething food products because there was no "eco" or "raw" option back then so every single baby item had at a minimum soy emlusifiers (like most adult items now) if not more, and I would just throw up if I was fed them. Looking back, I basically ate no junk food until I started school because nobody would give me things that would make me vomit. I must've grown out of the allergy as it takes larger quantities to make me vomit or give me migraines now, but I still can't eat a lot of normal processed products.
@@kinseylise8595 I am not allergic to soy and the only one of the soylent products that gives me the migraines is the one that's got the nootropic blend in it, but I am wondering if there's a correlation.
Fasting is much easier than dieting and you feel superhuman on the third or fourth day of not eating. It feels like amphetamines but more clean and a little less fun.
Solvent actually grew on me. While I was working in healthcare there were shifts where I barely had time to for one break. A chilled soylent was a quick "meal" and gave me energy for the rest of a 12+ hour shift.
I sincerely hope that girl isn’t really only having 800 calories a day and that was just a joke. A healthy adult woman would not be able to subsist on that.
There are hundreds of meal substitutes available, many of them in your local grocery store, for a fraction of the cost. The only thing unique with soylent is the PR blitz. Others have marketing crud attached to them a well, obviously, but you can just ignore that. If you look at the ingredients you will find that the ones for weight loss are near identical to the ones for weight gain.... and soylent.
Hindsight Why the hostile attitude? Even if you don’t agree with the vegan diet; I don’t see the need for you to call them “retarded” and completely bash them. They have their lifestyle and you have yours, neither of you are hurting each other so what’s the problem? The original comment didn’t even have anything to do with veganism but you brought it up anyway.
@@TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32 Many foods such as non-dairy milks, cereals, spreads, and nutritional yeast flakes available in a plant based diet are naturally fortified with B12. This type of B12 can be derived from an isolated bacteria source (not as nasty as it sounds), meaning that we’re not missing out - in fact just one portion of some provide well above the recommended daily intake. This is where it gets interesting. In most cases this form of fortified vegan-friendly B12 is not bound to protein, therefore it has a greater bio-availability (increased and easier rate of absorption through the gut lining), unlike animal based versions which rely more on the efficiency of digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid in the stomach to break it down to a smaller component, allowing it to pass into the blood stream. Not only is this fantastic for those that choose to eat a plant based diet, but also for those who suffer with digestive problems. Digestive disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Chrohn’s Disease, Dysbiosis (an imbalance of gut flora), or low stomach acid production can negatively affect the way food is digested and absorbed, due to either an imbalance of essential bacteria, a physical manifestation, or inflammation. This readily digestible form of B12 does not require your digestive system to work as vigorously, and therefore may help increase absorption rates dramatically where digestion may otherwise be compromised I'm not even vegan but the B12 myth is just that a myth

@@handlesshouldntdefaulttonames the mental load !? thats ridiculous. Just enter the supermarket everything is in there, the oats, the milk, whatever. And its cheaper 100% of the time. I was working an absolutely dreadful job a couple years ago and got Soylent for lunches. Looking back, I see it as a product of lowered self-worth from the awful job and a result of crippling depression. Soylent as self-harm basically.
I always keep some on hand in case of problems like that. Hell, I'm doing it right now due to oral surgery. But, there are other versions that are healthier and tastier out there. Hell, Ketolent is extremely healthy, whether you're doing keto or not, as they are pretty much exclusively healthy fats. It also tastes better in my opinion. Soylent doesn't taste bad, it just tastes bland and chalky. Like if you were to blend up oatmeal, water, and threw in Flintstone chewables.
I tried soylent to replace my lunches for a month because the idea of just drinking a shake at my job and taking a short lunch that was still nutritionally sound appealed to me. That said, they all taste like extremely watered down oatmeal, sucralose, and artificial fruit/bad coffee/fake chocolate The only one that was somewhat decent was the chai one. That one was spicy and toasty and actually was somewhat good. You still end up hungry again within 2 hours though because your gut is processing a liquid instead of solid food with fiber and stuff, and you still get sick of it very quickly.

Part of the appeal of things like Wonder Bread and Spam was that they were cheap. I don't know about Wonder Bread (ew) but spam is more expensive than just buying non-processed meats. I actually LOVE spam but just can't/won't buy it anymore.
No, it’s named after make room! Make room! The novel Soylent green is also based on, where overpopulation causes people to eat soy and lentils… Soylent
This was the first video of Shaq's that I ever watched, and rewatching this now after binging his channel and seeing how much he loves food, makes this infinitely funnier
This is the example Im going to use to describe the internet. "person 1 criticizes thing, person 2 who likes thing starts yelling out of defense because they like the thing that person 1 was criticizing"
I know I'm late but I had two (single) male coworkers that drank Soylent for 2 of their 3 meals every single day. The one thing that really turned me off from their habits was the pure amount of trash soylet generated. I know they sell powders to reduce that but if you're too lazy to make a smoothie with protein powder in the morning, you aren't going to mix the powder in the morning. They're about the same effort. They filled up multiple trash cans a month off of pure Soylent trash.
Yeah, people around me be like "I hate cooking and eating, is such a hassle, just give me the nutrients" I live for food. When I have a panic attack or I'm depressed, cooking is what calms me down. I travel to places to eat there. My life, without food, is no life at all
Every time I watch this channel I think I'm watching a big buildup to a really bad joke but it never comes and instead I'm just left with actually useful information.
I think what really freaked me out about soylent is the inventor really doesn't think humans should eat organic material at all. I love your take on how it's just for guys who are too insecure to tote around slimfast or that raw meal powder stuff, which is almost undeniably better for you. You just look like less of an extreme gamer.
I dunno. I've been very thin my entire life, and always struggled to enjoy eating. I still like a good burger every now and then, but after tracking my eating habit for well over a year I realize there are some days I'm not even eating what would be considered 2 full meals. And when I try to force myself my stomach turns to knots and I get nauseous, form eating and the thought of eating. I only got soylent recently, but just drinking a bottle at night when the thought of eating seems gross has done a good bit just to get my body those few extra calories it needs. And that's after trying the chicken and rice bro life for months and after getting nothing but fast food I know I like for a similarly long amount of time. Both resulted in me just focusing on nausea and dread of eating any more. All that to say, I think it has it's place for someone like me.
Same. There are days where I'll literally eat nothing, or just a bowl of chips lmao. Having at least one nutritious meal a day that's so easy to grab and drink is a huge lifesaver. I don't know why the guy in this video thinks Soylent is for people who already cook all their meals and have their shit together, or that it has to be an all-or-nothing thing.
So this is how i got you in my algorithm! i was watching your brown rice video a year or so ago and i wondered from where exactly did i get this dude on my feed. It was the soylent video all along.
I think he was referring to perfectly healthy people that actually have it for almost every meal. There's definitely instances where its good for people who can't eat normally and stuff like that
I tried to drink Soylent when I had evening classes and couldn’t always cook dinner before hand because my job was also all day. It jacked up my heart rate to absurd levels and I almost had a panic attack during lecture. Do not recommend if eating normally is feasible for you.
I drink it for breakfast on the drive to work because I have to wake up at 4 or 5 every morning, and the idea is chewing savory food is just too... much?? for my stomach to handle. Also it's good for college students to drink in between or in class for those days where you don't have time or money to get actual food
youreanonshareer agreed!! I’m in college and have so many allergies and intolerances so the dining hall doesn’t work and I have no space for my own food prep.
finallly someone agrees that "heavy" foods in the morning are just overwhelming - to me it's downright nauseating to have something savory or substantial when i have to wake up early in the AM. I wonder why my body rejects these foods in the AM, idk, but I just know I want something super light to start the day
Can vouch for college, Soylent was my crutch for a semester when I thought 6 classes on tues/thurs was a good idea. A box is expensive but I only went through 2 a week, worth.
As a college student I'm interested in trying it for breakfast, I do suppose those other drinks work. I need to study more on the macros and nutritional sides as a fatty
@@vlc-cosplayer as a supplement to actual food like this, ensure is pretty alright if OP finds themselves tired or groggy in the mornings, *maybe* a higher-protein option would be ideal

@@vlc-cosplayer Chill with the name calling lmao, I'm not a corporate shill just for liking the drink. Processed food _in general_ is unhealthy, but that's because it's usually just sugar/carbs. Like, peanut butter is a processed food, but it's still good at keeping people full because of the amount of fat/protein it has. Soylent's the same way. If people are drinking _only_ Soylent for a week, obviously they're not going to have a good time. It's not meant to replace every meal, it's just a quick and easy option for when you need to eat something. And the nice thing about it is that it has like every nutrient you need in one drink, so it's genuinely a better option than oatmeal for breakfast.

I have to agree. I drink Soylent ever so occasionally and to me it tastes too sweet while also feeling weird in the mouth. I prefer Huel by far because it is made up of oats and pea protein as the main ingredients. The taste isn’t as good as Soylent because it tastes like blended overnight oats, but after the first 2 days of consuming it, I don’t have any bowel issues and I actually feel good drinking it. I can’t say I will go forever on it and I do eat some real food every other day, but Huel is by far better tasting and not oily or too sweet tasting.
I thought it was a great product when taken in addition to my "normal" diet while on a camping festival in the desert. Just existing in that environment saps a ton of energy so having additional calories and nutrients was great. Would never have this in my normal day to day

Big Boi 2000 lol alright. My point was that it isn’t like I have crippling depression that prevents me from moving my bed or couch like you seemed to imply, that was the purpose in saying that, not to brag. Maybe you shouldn’t go around telling people they’re pathetic when they weren’t even talking to you and then telling them not to take it personally when you personally attacked them. This is why I rarely comment on anything anymore because no one can just be a decent human being to others. Will definitely take your advice though and just not comment on anything anymore because I shouldn’t assume that anyone will be decent, even if it’s about a fucking drink. Solvent actually grew on me. While I was working in healthcare there were shifts where I barely had time to for one break. A chilled soylent was a quick "meal" and gave me energy for the rest of a 12+ hour shift.
I remember a few years ago, I drank nothing but soylent for 2 weeks.

This readily digestible form of B12 does not require your digestive system to work as vigorously, and therefore may help increase absorption rates dramatically where digestion may otherwise be compromised
I'm not even vegan but the B12 myth is just that a myth
If you're just trying to get through 1 meal, there are other "meal replacement" shakes that taste way better, because they aren't trying to replace 100% of your nutrients.
