I'm a detailer here in Louisiana, I do a lot of boats of different sizes. I actually enjoy bringing the gloss back on gel coats, I start on a bay boat this week which is very oxidized.
looks great bassgeek. i did mine a few weeks ago. i did exactly what your friend did except i finished with 2000 grit used a wool buffing pad. i also used pro tec nu paint moisturizer and then their polish. yours looks great that flake is really popping now
@@BassGeek Understand, at the boat ramp and see young guns with new trucks and new 20' rangers. I purchased the 96 new and the motor started costing to much to keep it going. Made a move and glad I did. Love the boat and the 4stroke. Use about 1/3 of the gas I did in old boat too, FLC
@@FishingLakeCountry Yeah I've been on the fence for a while. Buy new or just repower. I think I'll end up repowering the old triton. Hey if anyone want's to get me a boat deal I'm open lol
On my boat the white paint is yellowing (mainly at the top of the boat) will this method be effective for the yellow areas. You made that look easy.Nice video .
This will work for a boat that you use on the regular, but if youre restoring an old boat, you wont be able to hand sand the oxidation off. Youll need to wet sand with an orbitor.
I followed the steps in the video and seem to have some pretty good results. Then within a few weeks, the fiberglass feels rough again and has lost luster. Do I need to go back over it again using the same method or is there something else I may be missing?
Nice! I cant wait to do this to my new skeeter. I just bought a 99 zx185C that looks very similar to yours. However mine is primarily a deep burgundy red and has black trim. It looks a little rough, but not quite as bad as yours did in the beginning. I detail cars so I figure I can probably do my new boat as well
nice guys! so i refurbished my 14’ fiberglass boat meaning sanded, repaired deep scratches with materials from jamestown distributors in RI. then painted the boat a dirty tan and finally added my camo stencils. my question is there a good spray on uv inhibitor you can recommend? how about keith poche today huh? lol fantastic!
I am fishing lake Cumberland this weekend, I know there is going to be a cold front that will take the air temperature from 70 to 50. But I know there is going to be a full moon so what do you think I should do
Mothers makes some there are a lot of new "boat" or "marine" waxes out there now and NuFinish is another good one. Just be sure it's save for Gel Coats.
That really turned out well. You did a fantastic job. Where did you find that sanding block with the two different grits on it? I thought that was pretty slick I've never seen anything like that. Of course I've really never looked hard seeing that until now that I now know it exists. The pad that you use with the machine is it a special grit? I know certain colors of pads are used for different things but is the one you use just a general purpose one that you could use for almost anything as far as applying wax or compound. Thanks for sharing your knowledge you really did make it look easy.
You don't need sandpaper unless it's severely oxidized. Wool pad and compound will work great. You want to leave as much gel-coat as you can. Sandpaper will remove some of that.
Please watch ANY of my videos and never wetsand again, ever. It's a great vid, you guys did a great job bringing back the surface but I'm telling you that you didn't need to do any of that. Well, most of that.
At a point you can't sand anymore. It becomes a job for a pro. My boat is at that point. I just say oh well as long as the fish still bite I'm still gonna fish it. hahaha Sorry.
Bass Nazi LOL Yeah I don’t mind constructively criticizing the video but no need to be a dick. As the old saying goes there’s more than one way to skin a cat. Lol thanks man
@@BassGeek lol trust me i get exactly what you mean, but I was honestly surprised they actually left a comment to begin with instead of just thumbs down.

@@MrRedex88 nope Tn
Where at in Louisiana? I need my pro craft done
Cajun Kevin, I’m in Avoyelles parish and have a Ranger that needs some TLC. How can I contact you
Spray wax when Sanding worked beautifully for me. Also baby oil worked great for sanding with water. Baby oil cuts the grime and oxidation quickly.
Good tip
im starting on a skeeter fish and ski and so far its coming out good
Heck yeah. Just remember to keep it sealed and waxed after.
Thanks for posting this, it's helped me to decide to put some light sandpaper and buffing to the old Skeeter.
Great let us know how it turns out.
Excellent job guys and thanks for the helpful information I’m doing my Bass Cat this weekend so this was perfect
Anytime sir.

Awesome tips man. We aren't pro's this is just something we tried and it turned out great. Nice way to perk up an old boat. PS I LOVE YA JIGS.
@@BassGeek no thats what im saying im def no pro either and think yalls turned out great. Thanks for the kind words. Ps your videos are awesome
10-4 sir I understand. There was another dude who was just a ahole. You totally came about it correctly. Again thanks for the tips and jigs.
Looking Good! I liked the before and after pics
Thanks
Done this last year the easy way. Took my old 96 as a trade and towed a 2018 Triton TX18 home.FLC.
Congrats on the new boat but that's not a option for a lot of us.

Hummmm Try a small spot
Great job guys! Jeremy, can you recommend a wax brand that would be good to use after buffing?
I’ll make sure he see’s this
Amazing what a little elbow grease will do! Great info!
Yup cleans up nice

It is really. I’m not sure about the yellowing.
Will follow your process

Yeah we were wet sanding it but your right you might need a orbiter but you have to be careful not to get to the paint

Great video. I was impressed. Thanks
Is it Necessary to sand first? I'm trying to clean my husband's boat and afraid to mess things up. You just take 2000 grit sandpaper over it lightly?
Yeah just a little and wet sand only

Hey bass geek when fishing 20 feet of water what oz tungsten would you use on a t rig with neither a craw or creature bait peg or un peg?
MyTopSpinner depending on current, wind, bait, etc. any were from. 1/4 to a 1/2 with the 3/8 being the starting point

Hey Hey Hank, how ya like the Fun at Cherokee this week ? 😉🎣👍🎣
I figured they would be bedding. I’ll be on a little lake just east of them and I hope the same thing is going on
