If my l3 button wont sprint anymore and im fed up of taking it apart to fix can i buy this and just program it to l3 instead of buying a new £50 controller saving me £30 aswell as it be a slight upgrade?
I bought this like a month ago. It’s pretty good for it’s price and ease of use but I don’t like how it feels. The ergonomic aspect of it feels strange to hold
I've _heard_ that the oddity with the PS5 controller situation, the whole DS4 on PS4-only titles, lack of proper third party controllers, etc., is that Sony's PS5, and PS5 games on PC doing the same thing, connection to the DS5 is 'encrypted' alongside a custom API. This is why you get feedback triggers on the PS5 games on PC but only when the DS5 is used as a DS5 and not put through Steam Input, similarly why the Flydigi Apex 3, which also has feedback triggers, does not natively work with PS5 games like it otherwise should. Sony has that custom API locked down. The oddities around DS4/5 audio capabilities over bluetooth on PC is a similar issue, all of Sony's audio stuff is sent through their controller API and the controller does not act like a native audio device wirelessly. Yet wired as a USB HID, it will work fine. The complexities of microcontrollers and why USB needs their own wireless spec to make wireless devices function as proper USB interface devices. Honestly, I do like the idea of the display, just not the implementation. Different games often require different button arrangements, it's nice to have a reminder of what's mapped where. Though this would work better with the display on the front, and make it E-Ink just so it doesn't sap battery while it can _continuously_ display which paddle is what remap, though probably inverse the colors so it's white on black for aesthetic reasons. Hell, even throw in a profile switch and have the option to name profiles, maybe intelligently switch profiles based on game tag similar to how Steam Input mappings are retained to specific games. What I do like is how Sony is actually using the expansion port, something Microsoft has seemingly abandoned. You know all those third party chatpads, they only tap power and ground, all their communication has to be through their own wireless connection, alla the PS3 days when the DS3 had no expansion port. These ports are also fairly simple, they're just I2C expansions; fun fact Microsoft's controller design (Slim/1708 and later I believe) uses an I2C device for all of the top board buttons, because an additional IC is cheaper than an additional connector. Problem is, controller firmware is locked down to first party devices, so Microsoft's chatpad and audio accessories, I'm not sure about the state on things on Sony's side but it's probably similar; though this could easily be remedied via a licensing program, they already have a controller licensing program, accessories already have some form of licensing program, why can't they just fully license expansion port accessories to properly work via an accessory whitelist that's updated through controller firmware updates? Now the important part of this, on Microsoft's side at least, is that beyond chatpads, audio accessories, and back button attachments, Microsoft could update Core (One + Series) controllers to have an IMU if the mid-gen refresh or next-gen update brings motion control to the Xbox platform, which would retain their ideology of forward-compatible controllers. Also the issues around 'back paddle attachments need their own battery or a cable to power them' might actually disappear soon. USB4 removed the host-device one-way power transmission, power just now flows where it needs to be, a device can technically charge a device under the USB4 spec. Now this only exists in proper implementation, and if you're familiar with the Raspberry Pi, or ThunderBolt 3, you know proper implementation doesn't quite always exist. But, there's a future where these devices could be powered by the USB port, though realistically these devices will always exist as USB 2.0 using the latest connector; it'd be nice if USB-IF could force full adoption of the newest spec even if the device's speeds realistically do not reach above an older spec. Though this also doesn't fix the issue around the fact that these attachments _become_ the controller as seen by the host, the physical controller just becomes an input pad that's repeated, and the remapping does nothing more than inject inputs while the physical controller itself is being repeated; it's like the expansion port but backwards, the physical controller becomes the expansion for the paddle pack, we've also seen these paddle packs recently become gyro packs, so I guess it's kinda coming full circle. I just wish companies would do more with the expansion ports. Or at least allowed an official dev firmware to unlock the ports and unlock the API the controllers use; though on Microsoft's side, Xinput is only capable of what the controller provides with no overhead, but being able to tunnel the expansion port into Steam Input would be cool, considering that's the most capable API outside of Sony's locking down of their feedback triggers and haptic engines.
An E-ink display would be stupid. You'd need to give it a backlight to see it in low light. Oleds are low power display tech since it only powers the pixels that are lit up instead of the whole display like any other displaytech that requires a backlight.
@@arcticowl1091 A backlight on epaper? You're a moron and have no idea what you're discussing. GTFO, clown, stick to mediocre clips of modern warfare. Oled might be low power draw compared to lcd, but they're high draw compared to epaper, plus Sony batteries are garbage in the first place, an always on oled display would wreck the controller lifespan.
