Obviously your chops are beyond incredible and watching you smash slipknot etc one-handed is unbelievable, but it's an absolute pleasure to see you kicking back and grooving to some classic rock. Tasteful and masterfully controlled. I'd love to see you cover more of these "easier" songs.
Update: Just so folks know, I've been drumming for 27 years, so my mention of this as an "easier" song is not intended to disparage it in any way, just highlight that it's not as technically profound as some of the other tracks performed on this channel (which I think is a good thing).

They did the fade out on Sultans of Swing because it was a long song and radio stations don't like long tunes. The live or Album version is the full length as it should be. I saw them play this live and my God they rocked.

I don't buy this "radio stations don't like long tunes" argument - I mean to some extent, but I don't think Pink Floyd's "Confortably Numb" or "Pigs" were ever made for radios. Or Pantera's "5 Minutes Alone"... This was some bs fad that to this day gives me BDSM-level of edging when I listen to some of my favourite songs. And maybe the "edging" was for the artists to lure people to live concerts to hear the whole songs - sell more tickets...? Who knows. F- annoying tho!

Drum machine ability but the danger is to becoming obtrusive to the music. One may overtake the singer with overly long drum fills at key points in the song. As a drummer, outstanding but as a group member, fulfilling a role of support is challenging for this man. Song is very nuanced and vocal transitions are gentle and cannot be obliterated by drums. My point? Less is sometimes more.

It's strange actually. You play all your instruments like they are an extension of your soul, it's quite astounding, because, being a musician myself, it's extremely rare to see this.
Mabe once, or twice in 40 years have I seen this in a musician.
It sends shivers down my spine watching you.
Back to The Sultans, one of my favourite songs to sing, the only thing I could say about your technique is that you play the rhythm too exact, (if that's possible) I mean if a metronome was clicking away, you probably played every beat one thousand off the true click.
    Unbelievable!

@@AdMBandLeader amazing technician. But... yes completely overplayed. A cymbal crash on every one count? or every second measure on the one count is overplaying. As to quantization that is the real message. No click tracks were used in the making of the classic rock songs! As soon as the click track enters the recording studio is when the decline of pop music began. I would love to see this man(a true giant among drummers) leave off the rolls, turn off the backing track, and play to his own innate rhythm. Play only a beat... the basic feel of the song... that is where it's at. The rolls are the reward... for getting the feel and rhythm pattern in to the hypnotic place where it belongs. It is impossible to do hypnosis with a roll every 4 or 8 counts. But what do I know:)

Pick Withers delivered an exceptional performance on the record. I respected it from the first hearing when it was released. I grew up with guys like Jimmy White and Ben Baily who were #1 in State of GA in that day, then went on to study in University and be around Sonny Emery.
As a bassist I was spoiled ROTTEN.
Walking down the hall on the 3rd floor you would walk past the percussion practice rooms at 10 Peachtree Center Ave. S.E. and hear drummer practice, and have to stop and gawk at Sonny in his room and the sound leaking through the seam of the jamb.
    Stunning.
I also got to work with a guy who inadvertently turned down playing for Stevie Nicks. He did not recognize her. That guy was immovable, even when he looked dead from the opioids his Dr. tried to kill him with. Just perfect and stone solid.

    1. I’m not a drummer and haven’t listened to much music for years (I’m into books right now). I’ve never enjoyed watching drummers do their thing outside of a song. Despite that, you have grabbed my attention and I’ve dipped into music styles I don’t even enjoy and discovered artists that are great! Your mesmerizing drumming and the pure entertainment raised them to something worth watching again and again! Wow! I’ve listened to more music in the past couple months than in the last decade! Thank you!
    2. You are funny, authentic, intelligent, incredibly disciplined and skilled. (You are also some real eye candy, but that wouldn’t matter if it wasn’t for your inner qualities!) What impresses me is that you want to pass on your life lessons, knowledge and skills to others and inspire them on their own journey. That’s big! Huge!!! We need more people in the world like that!
    3. As a side note, in your Million Views video you mentioned that something in your character drives you to do correctly whatever you’re doing. That can be a blessing or a curse, but when I listened to your Mike Portnoy video and your story about your girl related reasons for learning his song, I just started laughing. Your drive to do things ‘correctly’ could be a blessing for your partners!
    4. Thank you for enriching my life and I wish you fulfillment, success and happiness as you ‘lay pipe’ in your own life’s journey! Life is short, go for it! Nancy from the States!

Fadeouts were created for Radio play. Often times songs are longer than their Radio versions. Radio play demands a specific length of music and rather than ask artists to rerecord music a faceout makes it all that much simpler to get it done.

Lo que comentas del fade out es porque antes las canciones estaban pensadas para poner en la radio, y con el fade out ayudaban al dj o técnico de sonido con el cambio de una a otra, y poner ahi el típico comentario o falca radiofónica.

Now I think you are one of the best drummers ever. You kept it tasty through the whole video and let him play his solos without shredding over it. You have plenty of videos showing your chops. This was very important for me to see. Well done sir and the comment on fading literally made me spit my morning coffee against the wall. Thank you. • @vitapont7338
      @vitapont7338 5 місяців тому

@@RideAcrossTheRiver No, I am not. Maybe from a certain era, e.g., from the 60s and 70s, but with the spread of more energetic genres becoming popular - such as disco, heavy metal, punk, death metal and so on - fading of songs went out of fashion. Energetic, fast-paced songs nowadays have definitive stops at the end, not a slow fade-away. There are of course still exceptions to this, but not many.
