The primary goal in taping an ankle is to provide some support to the affected area, without restricting range of motion. Unlike a brace, the kinesiology tape will allow for activity to be resumed, because the ankle is still allowed to bend and straighten. The tape can also help reduce swelling in the area. Run the first piece of tape down the outer side of your ankle, under the foot, and then ending on the top of the foot. Apply the second piece of tape like a bowtie, horizontally in the back of the ankle, and making a X in the front of the ankle. Pull both pieces of tape to a 50% stretch, but do not stretch the last inch on either end.

Cool…I’m a born and bred Haligonian so always know where I am but can see how new people to the city might find this frustrating.

Your ankle is in the wrong position. This video could seriously injure someone.

      Which Is the right position?

@@stone7579 not all askew like in the video. First, it should not be on the ground, should be in the air. Natural position is relaxed but almost 90 degrees, and all should be aligned and super straight. I could keep going with many more errors in this video just on the foot's position, not even getting into the wrapping technique, but i've got stuff to do.

@@i.2694 true, also, all my experience says the foot should not be on the floor. The patient should be seated on an elevated surface like a barstool, bed, gurney, etc, so that the feet can dangle off the edge, that way you can manipulate the foot into the correct position and work the bandage around it without changing the angle/position of the foot. As you can see, the foot in this example is constantly moving as she wraps it, which is a big no-no, and it is not straight at all.
Edit: while re-watching I also noted she isn't applying an even pull on any of the strips she applied, and that caused the tape around the achilles tendon to get a wrinkle in it. This is a sign that the tape is more taut in some areas and less in others, which can be very very harmful and cause more injury instead of assisting in the healing of the original one being treated with the tape.
