      The system is terrible.
One, bad mistake a man makes. One bad mistake. He owns up to it.
But....what? He could have made up for it and proving himself by helping ignorant inmates to read and write.
But no! The system puts people like this in fear. Do something if someone challenges you! Especially if you're Caucasian! No disrespect to others. I understand that the Southern Mexicans and Paisas ride with Woods (Whites) now.
But, as a White boy. If I was a young man...I'll probably going to do something stupid to "prove" myself.
Damn, everyone deserves a second chance.

Not really. Guys like that are state raised. Meaning they have spent their entire lives behind bars. All those tattoos are earned. Each letter. It takes a lot of time. But all in all, yes, it is better than most. Felon is a good one too, with Val Kilmer.

@@coryboy345 My brother has been in and out of prison all his adult life- medium security mostly, he's never been in a gladiator camp like the ones in the movie. We don't talk much about what it's like for him inside. The food, boredom, red tape, stuff like that. But we've never talked about what he's had to do to get by. He fought a lot in his younger days and spent a lot of time in the hole- but he fought a lot on the outside too, so I don't know if he was fighting off advances or beating up a guy for taking to long on the phone. Now that we're both pushing old he's settled into a pretty easy routine and even got a couple of surgeries for nagging problems he couldn't have gotten help with on the outside. He comes home again in September. He's always been a popular guy with drugs falling out his asshole and his pick of the hot girls at the club. But this time he'll be a fifty year-old unemployable guy with a limp and a chip on his shoulder. He's been inside long enough this stretch that most of his drug connections are dead, in jail, or gone straight. I can easily see him going back because that's what he's comfortable with and he won't have that lifestyle on the outside this time. Anyway, I kinda zig-zagged. Because we don't talk about what his prison life is like, I have to imagine a middle ground between movies like this and what little bit I do know.

The most tragic hero story ever told in movies or literature. Why? Because unlike other heroes who are recognized for their deeds, Jacob Harlon never tells anyone, not even his own family, why he did what he did to protect his family. Thus, his sacrifice and heroism are never honored or memorialized. The only small satisfaction Jacob has at the end is his son's letter, and even then Jacob's true legacy will never be known and die with him.

100% correct. I’ve done shovel and turning a negative into a positive is the only way. No one knows what prison time is like until you’ve do it, no one. Nothing in life can prepare you for it, nothing. It took 8 years on the out for my time in the system for it to effect me and when it came you realise you have been broken. The negative into a positive starts all over again rebuilding your mind. Time TV series with Sean Bean is the closest I’ve seen to real life, took me 2 weeks to escape dreams etc after watching it.
