    • @AnthonyCatella
      @AnthonyCatella 4 роки тому +15

      You know, I really liked to see and hear this interview. Carter is not one of my favorite presidents, but he really has my respect. Harry Truman ( Carter's favorite president) used to say he was going to run for president again when he turned 90, now its Carter's turn to say he'll run again! There is no age limit to the presidency only term limits to two or no more than 10 years if the President in office succeeded to an unfinished term. Carter having served one whole term and losing re-election in1980 always had the door open for another run and still does but I think he'll continue to think better of it. Technically though, the door is still open for him as much as it was for Grover Cleveland in 1892 and as much as it is open for Trump in 2024! Agree or disagree with any of them, they are our presidents and we can be proud of all of them who served our country in the highest office in the land. I would like to be president of the United States one day, probably wont happen but I have a right to aspire, I did run for Congress! Speaking of faith, it is, as the writer of Hebrews says, "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen"(Hebrews 11:1). Her is a quote from President Carter's 1977 inaugural address: " Let us learn together and laugh together and work together and pray together, confident that in the end we will triumph together in the right." Hail to the Chief!

      @Laika24102007 I do have to research on Carter before I say anything about him, but Regan was a piece of shit. Started the second wave of mass incarceration by importing drugs from South America, spreading them through the African American community that began declining from the loss of jobs during shutdowns of their factories without any way of replacing said jobs, began the war on drugs by making sure the drugs primarily used by the African Americans (Crack= 1 year per rock) would send even USERS to prison for more than 30-40 years. Had plans to abolish unions to put extra money in his pocket and leave corrupt business owners and managers to mistreat their workers. Supported Margret Thatcher to do the exact same (she was successful). Left military veterans with no plans for healthcare and financial stability after leaving the military. Reagan was an evil son of a bitch. So Jimmy Carter is probably better anyway.

      @@blackout07blue 12/2/23 now, and I've only just seen your post. Along w/ many, I suspect, I did know of Pres. Carter's vote for Sen. Sanders in 2016. I'm very glad you mentioned that history. President JImmy and senior Senator Bernie share so many of the superior qualities greatly needed in our most significant leaders. An Illinois native, 85 now, I first learned of Sanders from an August 1963 Chicago newspaper photo showing a policeman "helping" a slight young man to the ground for marching against segregation. Photo still available on You Tube as "Bernie and Civil Rights in Chicago." The NAACP got him out of jail the next day. and--within days--he took a bus to DC for MLK's historic March for Jobs and Freedom and (forever memorable "I Have a Dream " speech). All too soon, Bernie was a speaker at the April 2018 50th commemoration in Atlanta of MLK's assassination. Bernie is as strong as ever working for the issues most important to me, including civil, economic, gender, racial and social justice...and peace. He has proven his support for All of Us over many decades. I wish/hope he would/will consider now being our nominee for POTUS again. I would work, hard, for him, again, and I believe many, many others would, too! One poster wrote, "Third time's the charm." I hope so. I see no other who wants to be POTUS in 2024 who brings the combination of experience, skill and heart that Sanders has. #NotMeUs.

      America should not be the policeman of the world we are in agreement about that. America World Police was a comedy illustrating your point which is the same as mine. We shouldn't be the world police (and we have been).!
      No President is a super hero and history is a lot more complex. Many blacks owned African slaves in early America, so did many native American tribes- they could have been humanitarians in other aspects. It's not black and white. White people have enslaved whites and all races throughout history and the same goes for black, brown, yellow and red (esp. all through-out North and South America): peeps enslaving their own race and other races.
      I'm sure you are shades of grey like the rest of us. But if you want to spend your life in outraged bluster you're free to do so. I'd call it hypocrisy and in my case definitely preaching to the choir.

The constant and senseless war mongering and war profiteering of the last few decades is largely responsible for the sad shape the world is in now. As far as I'm concerned, Carter remains the best president of the last 50 years exactly because he kept us out of conflict.

Hot shot blustering Reagan got elected and commenced the tear down of the middle class through union busting, deregulation, hyper militarism, etc. We have been suffering the consequences of Reaganism since the 80s as evidenced by that is the point wages stagnated and employee benefits started shrinking. Reagan took the voice of the worker away and gave power to the wealthy who ran with it. I facepalm constantly as the GOP call the Dems elite. The country always puts in Dems when the country sinks low enough and when the Dems start bringing the economy back, the country buys into the GOP propaganda and puts them back in office.

      Cade The U.S. is a world power because we took in German scientist during WWII and built the first Atom bomb and then used it twice and then went on to build bigger WMDs. That followed by a great veterans benefits program that helped educate millions, the rise of workers' unions that gave us the majority of benefits we take for granted today such as a 40 hour work week with overtime, paid vacation time, coffee breaks, pensions, employer paid healthcare, state run universities where tuition was actually affordable, on and on that built a strong middle class with upward mobility. GOP foregin policy has always been to take away from the citizens and squander it on $6,000 hammers and $30,000 toilet seats and bridges to nowhere as well as enriching military contractors and the military industrial complex which sells billions of $s of weapons to foreign countries. GOP uses "foreign policy" to enrich themselves while telling buffoons like you they are "protecting national security." LMAO and you believe it. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL How hilarious.
      BTW the cuts Reagan made in taxes hurt the economy in the end as it always does, and remember George H.W. Bush who ran on 'No New Taxes" then had to reverse himself and impose higher taxes out of shear necessity to keep from totally bankrupting the country. LOL LOL LOL You people are so funny.
      Bill Clinton left us with a surplus and George W's economy brought us the deepest recession since the depression. LOL LOL LOL
      President Obama saved the Automobile automobile industry and got the economy rising again and would have done far better had he not had a congress who proclaimed they would oppose him at every turn to make things better. It was the Rethuglicon congress that stymied growth, not President Obama.
      Trump's "tax bill" will bring disaster over time, as it has all the hallmarks of repeating failed trickle down economics that was a disaster of the Reagan era. But you silly people never learn. LOL LOL LOL

      Trump's economic policies will most likely cause another recession. My only hopes are that, if it's going to happen, it happens before 2020 so we can stop him from being elected again and implementing his other useless, ineffective and uninformed policies from hurting Americans further. Funny how the GOP preaches fiscal conservatism, yet when they're in control of government it's anything but.
