    FYI - Paper and Front Loader Tray problem.
    Paper fed through the rear feed. As it comes through, the leading edge of the paper can hit/nudge the front loader tray (on the inside), due to curl or thickness of paper. After repeated hits/nudges from lots of printing, the front loader tray can be pushed open. If the front loader tray is fully open/open enough, it will stop the paper being forwarded and end in a wasted print.
    When this happened to me, I managed to spot the front loader tray open by a few millimeters and pushed it back in place. Luckily, this did not spoil the print. After printing, I noticed the front left and right edges of the paper had become bent/crushed.
    So, try and make sure the whole leading edge of the paper is as flat as possible and keep an eye on the paper until it is past the rear edge of the front loader tray.

    I enjoy your frank, practical, informative discussion and demonstration, be it, I am at this moment hindered to move forward. However, since studying your presentations, I am learning in good advance considerable of the pro- printer principle, and the psychology I am likely to encounter, including that of myself when it comes to being subjective Certainly, I ought to read too what you have also written, but you have put mind at peace, that when making final choice, pro photo printers today will all produce worthy results. It is likely I will go for P700 or if providence is my way, I agree the P900 has a valid case. What you have done, is put clarity in my mind what is capable to produce first class prints, the importance of calibrating. Whether, I can turn this into profitable, simply, you have nicely answered that too in a meaningful way..what is that inspires another to want your print, not what I want them think?

    Thank you for the video. It was very helpful. I just received my new P700. yesterday. I would have purchased the P900 but that model is impossible to find in Canada. Concerning the P700, I am quite surprised by the flimsy and very cheap nature of the front loading tray. Prior to buying this model, none of the reviews I read had raised an issue with the feeder. However, on my first day with the P700, the front tray would not take my Fine Art paper. Finally I gave up and used the rear tray. Upon googling this issue with the front tray I discovered other folks had similar issues and comments to mine. A little disappointing. In any event, your overview did make it easier for me to set up the P700. That part went seamless and I thank you very much.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому +1

      Glad it helped. The only issue I noted with the top feed was that it could occasionally have problems when grabbing multiple sheets. However, the initial P700 I was sent had been damaged in transit, so I wasn't sure what was due to that (the 2nd P700 was fine).
      Have you checked my P700 articles? - they have lots more details than the videos.
      Thanks too for letting me know - I do make updates to the reviews and articles over time based on what I hear. Unfortunately, the printer has gone back to Epson, so my testing is finished. I'd just note that the P700 is essentially the same from a print point of view as the P900, so I've articles about that as well.

      @@KeithCooper Thank you so much for your quick reply. I will check your articles. I do understand that both printers are essentially the same in terms of the quality of their output and that is something that your video comparing the two printers confirmed to me. I would have preferred the P900 precisely for the reasons you explained in that comparison video, but the P900 is just not available right now in Canada and with the intensifying of the pandemic lockdown - I would like to spend the next few/several months that I will be stuck indoors on a deep dive into Fine Art printing. Thus, I now have the P700 which is meant to be an upgrade on my Canon Pro 100 - which I hope it is. Thank you once again. You are amazing. Please stay safe.

    Into my second week of using the P-700. Watching your videos and yes reading articles been really really usefull. Thanks!. Setting up the printer and getting started I did better if I had not spent some time at Cooper University. The prints I done been really good. Finally I got some issues with prints, not big but, details I cant ignore. Not printers fault because I know that is good since the test prints (the first prints that done of course) are perfect. Wondering where got the importance (and the images) of doing test prints first with a new printer / paper? ;-) Root of my issues I am sure comes quality of my non calibrated monitor. Well next project is to fix that so in advance thanks since you got good stuff about that topic to!

    One surprise I had with the printer is the timing: It always say will take 8min for A3+ and 4min for A4 but usual use less. Except twice it have used much longer on two of color print I did. All of 38min on a A3+. Really looked like it had to calculate how to do those. It counted down from 8 / 4 to one min and then was on that one min until done. Prints absolute fine and the time on the "log print" did show actual time used. Since I am not into mass production was more amused than annoyed.... What annoyed a once was I lost a A3+ print: The printer just decided to eject paper in mid print without I been near the control panel. I noticed I had closed Epson Print Layout after print started, should not have mattered as I belive once printer start printing it got all data but only thing I can think of. Just wanted to share some experience that not read or heard about and thx for all the great content.

    Thank you Keith. Very informative and honest. I read a comment on the b&h site that the cartidges that come with the printer are 15% (also seen on your intro video). For these prints in the video. How much ink did you use? Did you have to load new ink? A full set of ink is quite costly at roughly 400usd.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому +5

      The actual setup carts are overfilled (I weighed them) so that 15% figure is wrong. It may possibly refer to the ink displays after setup, which are rather low (see the main (written) review for more detail).
      There is now a second maintenance cart shipping with the P700 (in the UK/EU at least) Don't get another spare, since after initialisation it fills very slowly (just cleanings/borderless overspray).
      I did some 20-30 prints before the inks started needing replacing. GY was the first, then LGY >LC > VLM > Y by which time I'd printed several hundred prints (inc. the 3.9m panoramic).
      So, yes, new inks will be needed a bit too quickly for my liking - but then they last for ages. Even so it would be good if Epson put more ink in the startup carts to lessen the shock of those ink levels after setup.

    Great reviews Keith many thanks, I have read both the epson p700 and the canon pro 300 reviews do you have any comments regards the running costs, I presume given the larger capacity in the epson this may be more economic.?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому +2

      Well, for the PRO-300, look for PRO-10 ink cost info and expect some 10-20% improvement (or so Canon tell me)
      The 25ml Epson carts are obviously bigger, but the Epson print head is entirely new so we can't simply compare ink costs. The printer is currently too new for reliable usage info (Red River paper have some good testing) I'd look for P600 info and assume the P700 uses a bit less for actual printing (but I don't have data to back this up)

  • @Mrbluesplayer43
    @Mrbluesplayer43 3 роки тому +1

    Very useful review and good to see you doing these type of videos. Video reviews have certainly taken over from written reviews these days. It would have been nice to see a few more close ups perhaps, and I'd love to see more of the prints. My aged Epson R2400 is just about on it's last legs so this looks like a possible replacement. I presume it would also be a step up in quality perhaps?
    I've read elsewhere that the supplied cartridges are only about 20% full. If so that's really shocking and an appalling and wasteful practice, although I know Epson are not the only makers who do this. Most reviews recommend buying a complete new set at the time of purchase which adds another £280 to the price. Epson also say the maintenance tank should be replace one a year; your review seems to suggest it's going to be another expensive and more frequent consumable on top of the already vastly over-priced epson ink.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks - the detail stuff still goes in the written reviews (which remain paramount because they are in so detailed and can be updated), and unfortunately the resolution and colour accuracy of my HD video makes showing prints problematic.
      Print quality will be improved somewhat over the 2400 (not a huge amount) but the main differences are the various features and lack of black ink swap.
      The comments you've seen about cartridge capacity are not strictly accurate - the low levels after charging are due to the flushing through of the lines. This is why the maintenance cart is nearly filled, and why new printers will be supplied with a spare one. Unfortunately the carts are still low after start-up, not good. Annual MC replacement is wishful thinking by Epson and completely unneeded. With the upcoming free MC I expect this to be a relatively rare replacement - your question has reminded me to update some info in the written review about this. Feel free to email me if you've any specific questions, since the P700 is still here.

      Hi: Received my p700 about 10 days ago. Sent in the rebate form so that does save you $200.00 here in the US. I believe the initial 10 p700 ink cartridges are fairly full but inital printer set up uses a lot of ink from each ink cartridge to fill the necesary lines which run to the printer heads and some goes to the Maintenace Tank (I believe) so there goes close to 70-80% of your initial ink in the cartridges. I just bit the bullet and order a complete new set of cartridges and a spare ink maintenace tank. I just found out that most all printer ink from all printers is twice as expensive as a comparable amount of human blood. So when these cartridges run out I'm only useing type A, A+, B. and O for printer ink. I hope I don't bleed out before I am done printing. :-)) Take Care and Good Luck. Hot Rod

    Very helpful. I have this in mind to replace my Epson R3000 once I run out of my Fotospeed inks. How does cost work out using Epson Inks? I assume that the larger cartridges make the differential between using Epson inks and third party (good quality) inks such as those from Fotospeed less of an issue?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому +3

      Almost impossible to say at this stage, since my own usage is very atypical (lots of testing) and is using a brand new printer. The printer does use a lot of ink at startup (there is absolutely no truth to the rumour that the initial carts are 'nearly empty') but then overall use should be broadly similar to the P600 (maybe a bit better).
      The printer should now be shipping with a spare maintenance cart - this one should last for a long time. I mention this since I've heard of people wanting to keep a spare after replacement.
      Once you put foreign inks in, it takes quite a while for them to fully flush through (meaning a loss of accuracy of ICC profiles) - I personally would never use them, but YMMV.
      You also need to see if 3rd party inks even can be used yet in the P700 - the design of the carts is all an all new one

      That's ~0.2mm believe? [no-one here uses mils]
      So, for thickness, it should be OK, but the exact surface coating of these papers varies.

    I came across your reviews, thank you so much they are so informative. I currently have a very old Epson R800 that is on it's last legs which I use to make fine art prints of my paintings along with wedding stationary. I also have an A3 Brother that I use for everyday printing, mostly to print out ref photos for painting from. I am looking at the P700 to replace my R800, but wondering if it is going to be too expensive to also use for printing my ref photos on plain paper, which I don't need quality prints for. I would like to be able to only have one printer if possible.

      If you are happily using an R800 then that's what suggests the 8550 might actually be OK for you
      I also have a video rendering at the moment all about 'Art prints, marketing and the illusory concept of 'quality' ' I use the 8550 as an example - it won't probably be up until tomorrow though.

      Yes, with good paper and profiles it's capable of producing prints for any gallery. A lot depends on the market you're producing prints for. I haven't tested it yet but the P900 (at 17" width) might be a better choice. Hi Keith, thank you so much for the video. I'm new to printing my work on a 'professional' printer but I'm looking to invest. Is there a simple metric for evaluating how many prints you can get from a full set of cartridges? I know that that is fairly reductive question at this level, given that there are myriad options for printing which will all use different amounts of inks. At this stage though I have no idea how many prints I can expect from a £250 set of cartridges. Would you be able to give a ball park figure of a4 pages at a 'standard' print setting? I note that in your written review you have told us; "It was only some 15-20 biggish prints before inks started needing replacing." How many prints would you expect from a second new set of cartridges? thanks in advance.

      Unfortunately I never do comparisons between different makes. I do detailed (written) reviews which allow comparisons to be made. Also I'm always happy to answer specific direct questions privately by email, since what matters to one person may be an irrelevance to another (borderless for example)
      HP gave up this area of printing over 10 years ago - office stuff, or as you say large format.
      I don't think I've ever tested a printer I'd feel safe using near a sink! ;-)

      @@KeithCooper Thanks for the reply. Yes, the last one in this area was the HP 130. I use the z3200, its a 44" and I really like it. I am in a bit of a pickle...Either I upgrade my Pro-10 to a new printer, or I buy a new printhead for it for about $150. I am not able to clear the alignment and head from deep cleaning even. I also soaked them a little, and may need to do more. BUT, I got to this point by using 13x19"/A3+ paper that was not perfectly flat, so the print head hit the corner sides of the paper and may have damaged the head(is that easy to do or?) or did I get fibers jammed up in the nozzles? or something...I was just wondering the ink and overall print characteristics and differences. The format differences might not be important, as you said, I dont care for borderless, and actually realize this can cause issues later on.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому +1

      The PRO-300 uses (I believe) the same print head as the pro-10 so print quality will be broadly similar (there are some minor improvements, but most wouldn't notice) - the printer around the head just feels not as clunky as the PRO-10 did to me. The paper handling in the 300 is improved.
      Heads can be damaged through head strikes
      Any modern printer I've used in the past few years can make stunning prints - we're in the area where photographic, editing and print making skills define the differences that most people would see. Bad prints are now the user's fault (myself included)

    • @philindeblanc
      @philindeblanc 3 роки тому

      @@KeithCooper "Heads can be damaged through head strikes" Well, this maybe the main issue I have. It happened about 10 times. One of them cutting 1mm into a 286gsm paper. If the nozzles are delicate and are the first exposed parts that can take a hit from the edge of a paper...and that head does move fast...I guess perhaps that the nozzles are damaged. I printed numerous alignment patterns, and cleaning nozzle checks, and have gone through TWO full sets of ink to clean and test...I can email you photos of the test patterns if that would somehow give any evidence to what might have happened to the nozzles. Thank you greatly for your input and responses.
      As for the Pro-300, unless it had a vacuum feed like the Pro-1000, I would not easily consider it. I maybe in the market for a used Pro-1000. But my experience with Epson goes back a couple decades, and I stopped using Epsons after the Pro4800. Epsons I have used have been the most finicky printers. I have used HP, and that was likely the only rival until Canon made more headway with Lucia inks. Either way, if I replace my z3200 one day, it would likely be a Canon, but these print heads are pricey..HP is individual and they are about $25-40 per head. They are also rather robust and can be cleaned, and even use a Waterpik on it for stubborn clogs. Maybe they have less finesse, but I will take function over finesse at this point.

      Yes - one of the biggest technical developments in better printers [in the last 10-15 years] is the whole area of how ink droplets are placed and the mix of colours to produce the results. Stronger colours and use of greys feature with much more accurate dot placement.

      Bought it second hand about 18 months ago, so not that old, though I do not know how much abuse it received from the previous owner. However, I've printed over 100 A3+ prints, so it must be in a good enough condition.
      Over 95% of my prints I use the top/rear feeder. I have had one or two slight misalignments before but vast majority were OK, so I ignored those problems.
      But the second to last print, a couple of weeks ago, I heard some roller straining sounds. Print came out OK.
      Tonight's print, came out with the errors I described above.
      I am searching the internet for P700 roller fix information. If I am brave enough, I'll open it up and use Isopropyl alcohol.
      In the meantime, I'll use the front feeder and see what happens.

    What happens when the ink levels are low and you start a new print? Does the printer warn you and not print? Does it try and print and not finish the job? Does it start to print, let you replace the cartridge and continue printing, without error (missing or blurred areas)?

    • @KeithCooper

      You get warnings before prints - at a certain point it will also tell you there may not be enough for a print. If you carry on and it runs out it you will likely lose the print.

    Thanks for great reviews Keith! I have been watching a lot of your videos for the couple last weeks😎
    Me and my wife are going to start printing watercolor paintings and selling those. We have 2 printers in our minds... This sc p700 and Epson ET 8550. Which one would be better suited for watercolor prints in your opinion?
    We are going to mostly do A5 and A4 sized prints.
    And what about ink costs... Due to my investigation printing with Sc p700 is more expensive. Am I correct?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks - I get an email about the post, go to reply, and then it's not there... My suspicion is that it was the channel mention that did it? There is no way of going 'no, keep this one' AFAIK
      The 700 with its pigment inks and easy availability of icc profiles for papers is a better quality solution, but will cost more. There is also the question of scanning/capturing the original watercolour artwork (I've covered this for the 8550).
      Expensive is a relative thing if you are selling stuff - it all depends on what market you are selling into. I've quite a few more business oriented videos looking at aspects of this.
      This give a good starting point for print costs

    Thank you for the helpful overview Keith! I am currently looking for a printer that can handle larger format (A3/A2) for posters and smaller format books/booklets. Do you think a P700 or a P900 would be good options?

      Both might well do - I'm currently testing the P900, but it will be a few weeks until I have my reviews and some videos to go with them (remember, the written reviews will usually have far more detail than the videos)
      It does depend on just what you actually mean by books/booklets - I tend to test photo printing - sheets and roll.

    Keith, how do I go about sizing up an image in Photoshop so that it prints exactly as I want it to? For example, I have an image I want to print on A4 paper and I want a 1/2 inch border all round - how do I resize the image to fit the paper? I've been experimenting with lots of different image sizes, and regardless of what I do, in the soft proofing, in Epson's Printer Layout plugin, some of the image is cut off. The only time I see the image in its entirety is when Epson's plugin does an automatic resizing but that leaves me with a bigger border than I would like. So, is there a way to do what I want? Thanks.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 роки тому +1

      I do this from photoshop on my Mac with a custom page size with custom margins. The problem is that this changes the aspect ratio, so unless you resize the image correctly or let it be cropped by the margins, you can still get not it quite right

    • @fredwestinghouse2945
      @fredwestinghouse2945 2 роки тому

      Thanks for your reply. I will try out custom option tomorrow.
      I have found a way to do what I wanted. First, in printer preferences, I had to set the Level to Standard, Quality or High Quality. Only these would allow the Borderless option box to be ticked. I set it to High.
      Once Borderless was ticked, then Epson Printer Layout plugin in Photoshop allowed the border I wanted, in this case 1/2 inch all round.
      Finally, I had to use an image that was resized/cropped to fit.
      So, it can be done, but a very roundabout way of doing it.
      Further, even though I set the Level to High Quality in Printer Preferences (to get the borderless option, to get my margins), Epson Printer Layout plugin now allows me to set Level to Max Quality! So, which one will the actual print use - High or Max? God knows. 😆

    • @fredwestinghouse2945
      @fredwestinghouse2945 2 роки тому

      Choosing Max Quality level and then ticking the Borderless check box, you get this error message:
      [LEVEL 4 (Max Quality)] is currently selected.
      This setting does not support [On] printing. [On] printing will not be used.
      Yeah, very informative Epson. Thanks a lot.
      I've emailed Epson, asking why the printer cannot print Borderless on Max Quality. I'll let you know their reply when I get it. I doubt they'll give a good, detailed and honest answer.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 роки тому

      My suspicion is that it's because of the borderless and that will be due to paper movement precision at the end of the sheet
      When I use custom borders on custom media sizes, I don't select borderless since the expansion setting can be an issue. As long as my chosen borders are bigger than the minimum
      However - setting at max quality on the P700 is rarely something I'd choose (especially for B&W on a lustre paper)
      The 'max' settings are, on many printers' there as much a marketing feature than anything of significant use. With any printer I look to see if there is a significant difference (this varies with media).

    • @fredwestinghouse2945
      @fredwestinghouse2945 2 роки тому

      Received this from Epson regarding the error:
      "Unfortunately borderless printing is not available at max quality. This is due to the amount of ink involved, which when printing borderless at this quality level could cause ink leaks, etc."
      Hmm, so they've engineered a device that cannot handle ink leaks beyond a certain level. Ok, so be it. At the moment, I don't print borderless anyway, so not a concern to me.

    Hello,
    (sorry for my english, I'm french^^)
    I just changed my printer. I took the sc P700 which replaces my old r2000..
    But I'm disappointed on one point, it's the obligation to have a margin when you put the quality from level 4...(1 to 5). With the R2000, I didn't have this problem, whether level 1 or 5, the photo was printed in full page (without margin or border). With the sc p700, I have no choice..
    Moreover, at equal quality: when I go to quality level 3 on the Epson R2000, as well as level 3 on the sc p700, the photo is sharper (better definition) on the R2000 than on the sc p700..
    Is there something to do that I did wrong?
    Thank you

      www.northlight-images.co.uk/driver-settings-and-print-detail/
      Print sharpening requirements obviously differ by printer model and media - you do need to experiment

      In general, there is no great benefit to be derived from the highest print settings

    FYI - especially for beginners.
    Using the front paper loader tray to load paper. Once the paper has been fed into the printer, the printer will instruct the user to close the front paper loader tray.
    However, if the front paper loader tray is left in its pulled out position, and a print job is sent to the printer, the printer will start to print regardless!
    Then, part way through, the paper will butt against the front paper loader tray. The printer will stop printing. The printer will instruct the user to close the front loader paper tray. Upon closing the front loader paper tray, the printer will continue printing.
    The leading edge of the paper, where it butted up against the front loader paper tray, will show marks/ruffles.
    So, though it is a user error, the printer should not start printing until the front paper loader tray has been shut. Bad show Epson.

    When inserting a paper into the printer, the paper type can be set on:
    1) The printer;
    2) The printer preferences (Windows, Control Panel, Devices and Printers, Preferences);
    3) Epson Print Layout plug-in in Photoshop.
    So, exactly where do I set the paper type? All of the above?
    I asked Epson. They replied:
    "If using Photoshop, you will need to confirm in the print dialog box if Photoshop will manage the printing operation or the Epson Printer Driver will. We normally recommend to set the Epson Printer Driver as the printing engine because we cannot guarantee any results or performance with third party software or components."
    Hmm, their answer doesn't exactly give me any confidence they know their own products. Epson Print Layout is their own software, is it not? Do they do any testing at all?
    Further, they added:
    "However you can do some tests using different settings and will see that the printer result will vary as the settings in question differ from one system to another."
    Oh great, I have to pay thousands of pounds for their printer and exorbitant inks and then I have to do the testing myself. Thanks a lot, Epson. 😠

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 роки тому +1

      Their explanation is a corporate one and correct, even if not as helpful as it could be.
      The media type on the printer can be set to flag a warning on mismatch - personally I always make a point of setting it here, so as to avoid mistakes.
      The media type is set in the printer driver settings. I set the profile to use in the photoshop print dialogue.
      If I'm using Epson print layout, then I select the media and profile there
      No there is no real confusion here it is a basic process, as outlined in my articles and videos.

      I'm doing as you've suggested, on the printer and in the printer driver - just that I'm a bit nervous something else is set somewhere else that could affect my printed output.
      Shame there is no 1-click solution. I'm sure they could design it if they chose to spend the time and money.
      Well, as they replied, I have to do my own multiple tests to find the answers.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 роки тому

      A '1 click' solution is just not feasible if you want the flexibility to use custom profiles and third party papers and print from third party applications
      The nearest to that level of being able to ignore what is going on is Epson's print layout software where selecting an epson paper type can automatically select a profile. That is why Epson answered the way they did - I would do so too in such a situation...
      There is no need to set anything in printer preferences, since they are defaults, overridden when you set the driver.
      Apart from the printer, you should only need to set media and profile once, albeit sometimes in different places

Can you give me a bit of advice? also on the paper to use with the canon -300 or the epson p-700. Thank you very much already. Greeting Henk In Utrecht (Holland)

      Thanks
      The 700 has roll support (only 13") and bigger ink carts
      The 300 has very solid paper feed/handling
      prints - maybe I could spot the difference - don't put too much money on it.
      The videos are only overviews, so do read my written reviews - they are where the true detail lives ;--)
      They also get updated/corrected as needed.
      ICC profile work exactly the same as any printer on win/mac
      Papers I tried - see the reviews, but note that are what I have available in the UK
      Any specific questions - email me at Northlight?

    Hi Keith. Is this pigment ink printer?

  • @stephenwaters9781
    @stephenwaters9781 Рік тому

    Something I have noticed from get go.. It swallows about £200 worth of ink (estimate on a set costing maybe £230) just setting it up, before you even do a single print!

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Рік тому

      That is one way of looking at it - I see it as starting off with very small ink carts.
      The amount of ink left after P700 initialisation and the reduction of the P900 cart capacity to 50ml [from 80ml of the P800] are two features Epson will get no praise for, from me.
      I like the printers, but both these thing just seem a trifle petty if I'm being honest

      Also, any ideas please Keith? Just on my second only print.. A3 onto poster board and I have quite a bad print really, not what I would expect from a printer in this range, especially on its second only print! There are slight clustered specs of Black appearing where it shouldn't be.. one or two places. I'm frightened to death of having to put it through some cleaning process.. as you can see from my top comment. Any ideas? You might save me faffing around.. and some ink! Thank you.

      2nd print and on poster board! That's 'brave'
      Learn to use the printer with paper first - you cannot blame the printer for a lack of expertise - even with all the testing I do, I start off with a few test prints on a basic OEM [Epson lustre] paper, to make sure I've the hang of everything. Poster board printing needs care - I'd made 40-50 prints before I attempted it.
      Oh and sorry, some ink will likely be required within 20-30 prints

      @@KeithCooper poster board was just a one off urgent need for my shop window display, for which the quality tho not perfect is adequate. Once I've saved enough money to replace the inks, it'll be paper 99% of the time. I just thought I'd ask as you seemed to be offering knowledge, but I see you have nothing to offer on this one. Sorry to have taken up your time.

    FYI - Errors
    1) Use superscript in the image filename. Open image in Photoshop. Launch EPL plug-in. You will get an error pop-up message box, showing a few random characters. No helpful information. And you can only dismiss the message box without knowing what the error was.
    2) Latest EPL has one Chinese label even though everything else is in English (for UK/English user).
    Minor issues that can be overcome by the end user. It shows poor quality assurance/testing by Epson.
    Update: This is on PC, Windows 11.

      One of my previous areas of work was usability testing and all software has this...
      It does not show poor QA - have you informed Epson?
      Superscript in a file name??? I'm almost tempted to say that's your fault for doing it...
      Sorry , just wearing my old developer hat for a while ;-)

      Sure, I understand your POV regarding superscript in filenames. But it is simply a character. It is 2022. All sorts of characters are used in filenames. So, why not superscript? But, let this issue slide by. My main objective is to let you and other users of the printer and software know the problem exists and how to overcome it.

    I'm raising these issues in the hope you or one of your subscribers have the answers. Maybe even the Epson people from high on up 😀
    Using EPL, A3+ paper size, choose Rear feeder. The minimum border is 0.12 inch (~3mm). Therefore, cannot do borderless.
    Change to Sheet, still A3+ paper size, now the minimum border can be 0 inch, i.e. borderless.
    Q1) Do you know if there is a way to choose Rear feeder and get borderless printing?
    Of course I can always set it to Sheet and get borderless printing. However, there is another issue.
    Choose Rear feeder and you can use Max Quality (Carbon Black). Choose Sheet and you can only go up to High Quality - no Carbon Black.
    Q2) Why did Epson do this? Why is Carbon Black not allowed for the same paper type, regardless of how it is fed into the printer? Very weird.

      I don't have a printer here at the moment to test this - hopefully someone can help.
      I'd suggest a better place to ask would be the printing forum at DPReview

      I think there is an alternative way. In EPL, choose Front No Eject Roller (Glossy Paper). Carbon Black option is available. And the bonus of not having "pizza wheel" marks on the print. When I next print, using this strategy, I'll let you know the outcome.
