Now that Dread is here, we can definitively say that Metroid does NOT need Ridley to be compelling or fun. I kinda wanted to see him, but I'm happier not seeing Ridley back yet again. This is emphasized by the fact that we FINALLY see Kraid again.
R: Hey Kraid I need your help for something
K: What do you need boss?
R: The new Metroid game is coming out and I have a full schedule. Can you take my place in the new game.
K: Sure, but didn't that game come out in 2019?
R: As I said, *FULL SCHEDULE*
And man did Kraid get some non-verbal sass from Samus in Dread, loved the cutscenes before and after the fight
TBH I hope they throw him in as a bonus boss as part of the boss rush. But Dread def proved he's not needed.
Next best thing.
No, Metroid Dread definitely needed Ridley. Beakwing and Experiement Q 62 with that weird jazz flourish music were some of the worst bosses in the series.
You can essentially think of Ridley as similar to Kefka from Final Fantasy six. He’s not doing it because of some greater purpose, he’s doing it because he enjoys it and/or finds it funny.
Life dreams hope... where do they come from? Where do they go?...
I think of him like starscream
Rarely the main big villain but rather the big number two who constantly tries to be the number one like he once was
At least Ridley has the decency not to talk shit 24 hours a day.

I think giving Ridley a voice would actually provide some meat to his character as it did in the manga, with a handful of scenes where he plays with his subjects through mind games. HOWEVER, I also think your idea is brilliant where he pretends to be a mindless animal in order to catch his foes off guard, thus living up to the cunning god of death.
Perhaps Ridley speaks to very few characters such as Samus. Ridley would understand Samus well enough that she doesn't fall for his animal facade, and thus can openly taunt her about the horrible things he has done.
I love that idea at the end: Ridley acting savage and animalistic to strike fear into others, and then dropping that facade when toe to toe with Samus is too cool to pass up.
That would be a good excuse if they start making him talk in future games
Ridley is a sentient being, but that doesn’t mean he can talk.
But he wouldn’t even need to open his mouth to do that.
@@myleswelnetz6700 A sentient being who holds the title of space pirate military commander, meaning that in one way or another, he commands. And if we go by manga standards, he can talk.
Ridley should only talk to Samus, he knows his presence doesn’t intimidate her anymore and he knows that she knows he’s intelligent and can talk so pretending to be savage is worthless. Instead he opts to taunt her and if the Chozo are a big part of the TV series/Movie he could’ve killed off the last Chozo and taunt her about it
Exactly what I was thinking.
I really don t imagine a giant purple pterodactile talk. I think that first of whenever or not it would be a good thing for ridley to talk... would it be logic ? I mean, he could have whole different language like dolphins or something.
And we would lose this wild quiet threat aura.
@@felixthecat403 he’s been able to talk since the manga released around Metroid fusion
@@cosmiclikesminecraft wow. Didn t know about that. Thanks !
@@felixthecat403 also dragons have been able to talk in quite a few peices in media such as Smaug from the Hobbit, and Ridley can technically classify as a dragon.
If they ever decide to off Ridley for good I feel like he'd deserve a truly epic death. And not just as some boss, no, he should be the main antagonist of his final game. The game he'd die his last time in should be a game about Ridley and the space pirates. Have it be the space pirates finally taking all they have to attack the rest of the galaxy. An all out war lead by Ridley himself. The final climactic battle with Ridley could be as epic as a fight on the outside of a collapsing space station that is currently in the progress of falling into a black hole or something. Ridley doing all he can just to kill Samus before said black hole kills them both. How Samus would escape after winning the battle I don't know. Maybe some other characters have some form of prototype ship that can outrun a black hole and after beating Ridley in his final fight you have the escape sequence to reach that ship. Maybe have the fight timed and extended onwards through the escape sequence with the last shot fired from Samus sending him falling back into the black hole as the prototype ship speeds away.
too bad he died in Super for good
I also think if he is gonna die he needs to die as the big bad of the game. But my idea is little less metroid and weirdly enough more Batman like. And it also really dark for a nintendo game. I would also put actual voice acted cutscenes. Story would probably go like this.
I would make the game after fusion. Samus after the events in fusion runs from federation. She also tries to contact her friends in federation to do something about this problem(Manga, Prime and Other m characters). But while doing that she got shot and she lands to a new planet that is also Space pirates new base. But this base is made just for a trap for Samus made by Ridley.
Ridley actually connected to Federation. And he is using their support for a plan he made just for Samus. And of course we don't know yet.
Also we don't know if he is him from Super Metroid and if he was how his state is right now.
Middle part of the game:
After typical Metroid exploration and stuff we finally came to his chamber. When Samus come right before him we see a Ridley that can't even move a muscle. His entire body is held by machines. His healing can't even work that fast after the defeat on Zebes. We later learn that he actually ate his own men to repair himself enough to escape Zebes.
Ridley does talk here. He talks about how long their rivalry has gone through and as much as she wants to see him death she will never be able to get rid of him. He also starts to talk about her parents and chozo
Samus finally snaps after a while and get her gun ready to finish this once and for all. But We finally see Ridley's real trap.
Multiple clones of himself made by no other then federation. But not just that. He knows She has the chance to handle multiple of himself and these clones are not as strong as his prime. But he is not using them for that. All of them holds three people; One father one mother and their kid. Yeah he is going that place.
İf she moves they are gonna die. İf she doesn't they will still gonna die.
Ridley mocks her. Making fun of her and putting her original ptsd back to her. We do now start to see the weak parts of Samus. Entire game she was like how she was in prime games but now. she starts to feel pain. And then he one by one kills them infront of Samus. And that's where all the clones attack her. And right before she is gonna die. Her contacts from the start of the game cames(again manga and game characters).
They take her and run away.
After that mission becomes to kill every Ridley clone that is searching her. All of them have different gimmics to make them intresting to fight too.
Then we come to final boss. Real Ridley again puts a really dangerous mecha suit.
Fight obviously ends with Samus winning but also with Ridley is winning in a much bigger way.
Yes she killed him but pirates now seeing Ridley as their god. Their flags to their armor all starts to look like Ridley and only thing they want is chaos.
Obviously some parts of this edgy mess needs to change and get better but ı really would like a more personal fight between them.
@@mewtron5242 I'm pretty sure the Space Pirates can simply revive. Also, Ridley was ACTUALLY dead in Metroid 1.

Don't think it will ever be possible to "off Ridley for good" because he was actually killed more than once. In Metroid 1/Zero Mission and Super Metroid in particular. While Ridley is used a fair amount, we rarely get to see his intelligence or personality. They wouldn't even have to give him a voice. Some data logs written by him could really flesh his character out more
Exactly, I'd love to see more of the personality he showed in the canonical Metroid prequel manga in the games as well. He has some of that personality in the games of course, but I'd love to see more of that.
As I’ve said before

I don't think Metroid absolutely needs Ridley but when I know he is in a game I always look forward to fighting him. His music, design and abilities are always a highlight of the game for me. In Samus Returns I did not know he would show up at the end so when I saw him it was a big surprise and it's my favorite Ridley fight in the series.
well I do think he is pretty necessary to the series as a whole. he is comparable to ganon from zelda. not necessarily present in every game, but their rivalry with the main character is the primary over-arching conflict. the space pirates are THE antagonistic force of the overall series, and to have the space pirates and permanently removing Ridley would just seem wrong. also his direct history with samus can't go understated. if it wasn't for Ridley's actions, Samus probably wouldn't even be a bounty hunter.
@@awesomesauce94 yea
Ridley is Metroid's version of Death in Castlevania
Mostly in the "That One Boss" category, or a Wake-up call, so that players know that the rest of the game isn't to be taken as lightly
Have to admit that I would be incredibly disappointed to see Ridley excluded. He's my favorite Nintendo character and he's simply not overused to the extent Bowser and Ganon are.
I actually agree with Orpheon on this one. I mean, Samus Returns exists and had the most out-of-place Ridley cameo in the series. I like Ridley a lot, but he doesn’t need to be a mainstay like Bowser or Ganon. And I don’t think he was ever intended to be. Hell, he doesn’t even serve as the main threat in any of the games. Prime 2 and AM2R exist and are amazing even without him. It’d be awesome to see some new faces in the rumored 2D game, as well as Prime 4.
@@SilverSpireZ
It only comes off out of place because Samus Returns is a remake. Narrative-wise, there isn't a reason why Ridley wouldn't go SR388 to retrieve Metroids after the events of the prior games (especially if he knew Samus was there trying to wipe them out) and it sets him up to pursue Samus to the Ceres station compared to him just showing up there in Super Metroid.
As for if Ridley was intended to be a mainstay or not, I don't think that matters. He stole the show with his return in Super Metroid and has been a mainstay ever since, only missing a few games. But then, even Bowser and Ganon aren't present in every Mario and Zelda game. (or aren't present as a major antagonist). Also Ridley appearing doesn't mean new faces can't show up. We got plenty of new faces in Prime 3 and Other M despite Ridley's presence (love or hate those games).
IMO if Space Pirates or Space Pirate interests are involved, its hard not to expect Ridley.
@@SilverSpireZ i view ridley as a tool the designers can use for a variety of purposes in the metroid games. He's not needed, afterall prime 2 is my favorite metroid game, but I think Ridley's looming presence over the whole series is rather fun and the devs can do a lot with it.
Also it plays to his cunning if, after trying to take the baby from Samus by force and getting his ass kicked, he would allow them to leave and follow them from a distance until the baby was no longer with Samus.
He’s the only somewhat mature villain in all Nintendo
I really think that we need Ridley because he is Samus’s arch nemesis. It is like Link and Ganondorf. They have games where the antagonist isn’t in the game, but over all we still need Ganondorf. Just like we need Ridley.
Yeah Ganondorf especially since he isn't even the main villain in over half the Zelda games. And Ridley is Samus's most personal foe BECAUSE he constantly comes back well that and he ate her mother and vaporized her father.
@@chadpeterson5698 Exactly
tbh you can sum up the entire metroid series with the two words "bird magic"
That first upload with no voice audio had me losimg my mind. Just two developers staring blankly at me in a room with metroid footage cut in between

@@TheOrpheon considering the developer near sakamoto(I forgot his name, the main thing I remember is that he was a major part of the Metroid prime triology development) was known to have a drinking problem so maybe he was speaking that language unknowingly and sakamoto just knew to communicate with him while drunk
Before he was put into Smash, I really thought it was time for him to stay dead, because I thought he was one of the things keeping the series tied to its past. I didn't even want Ridley in Smash as a character; but now that he's there I can't stop thinking about how much potential he has as a Samus foil going forward.
How he might have survived is anyone's guess, but I'll accept Bird Magic if it means we get a bit more in-game development of the boy.
They already have one, he needs too eat to regenerate cells, make it be like DBZ Cell, you need to ATOMIZE him utterly, or else he forms into a microscopic organism and start eating cells there, they could explain him not being around as this being a LONG progress and have him return EXTREMELY pissed off
Personally as a hardcore Ridley fan, I'd like to see a Metroid game where he is the final boss and the game ends with an epic conclusion to his and Samus's rivalry. I think the idea of bringing him back to almost every game is ok, it just needs a good conclusion to his and Samus's rival arc. If he is killed off for good, I think it'd be cool if he still haunted Samus throughout future Metroid games.
his ghost calls in a favor with Phantoon 🤣
@@FuryMcpurey lol
Super Metroid WAS the ending to Samus and Ridley's rivalry arc. Norfair Ridley was mechanically the strongest in terms of gameplay, and the fight was very much the "final battle" between Samus in her nemesis. That's especially true considering the fact that while Ridley HAD been "killed" in previous metroid games, he hadn't actually, truly died until Super Metroid, when he split into gory peices and blew up with the planet hours later. The fact that Ridley died in Super is confirmed by Other M and validated by Nintendo's effort to clone him in every game chronology set after it.
I always imagined that the metroid series was in a sort, an autobiography of ridley, the main man who continues to work towards his goals, letting nothing not even death get in the way, and at the end of the day, his obsessive behavior extends to samus and mixes with his bloodlust, seeing samus as "the one that got away" working day in day out to not only destroy samus, but everything she's ever held dear, like the federation
The next time I see Ridley, I want to see him having a PTSD panic from seeing Samus. It would be so fitting.
I have a hard time imagining him with PTSD, more likely to just go more crazy / bloodlusting if he sees Samus again, IMO
There's also the canonical Metroid prequel manga that uses Ridley as the main villain and it's probably one of the best uses of the character on all the franchise.
Anyway I agree with you, Ridley is not overused, the way they implemented him so far works quite well, as long as they find an explanation for his resurrection. I hope we get to see him in future games, but at the end of the day a Metroid game every now and then can also work without him if needed.
PS: about your bird magic for resurrecting Ridley, you may be onto something here if they do a sequel to Fusion and follow the plot threads left open by Samus Returns Chozo Memories.
Looks like we'll see what Metroid Dread has to offer regarding your PS statement!
Absolutely it does lol not usually the main boss but still an icon.
Well that intro hits different after today
Short answer without watching: Metroid just needs more games.
With Ridley in them.
Really? I thought the answer was Bird Magic.
True he’s not always necessary, personally I think he’s famous enough in the series to at least be in the next new Metroid game, so new players can have a sense of his character and importance.
I think what youve pointed out is that Metroid games don't necessarily need Ridley, just someone who can fill his role as an intimidating high-class villain or rival boss. For example, Prime 2 arguably used Dark Samus instead and it turned out great.
I feel like Sylux may be taking this role in Prime 4. If he's in there, then having Ridley around wouldn't be super necessary.
I love Ridley. He's an amazing character and I'd love to see him brought back, but I'd also have no issues with him being left out.
I never thought about this myself, but I totally agree. Ridley never got boring like other villains, like Bowser or Ganon. Ridley always seemed like such a wild card that raised the stakes rather than BEING the stakes.
Also, if Ridley was in some sort of movie, I can't help but imagine him only making grunts and growls, and then his lackeys translate and understand, Jabba the Hutt style. I think it would be much more interesting if he didn't speak english
I’d agree with the whole concept of Ridley being the main antagonist during super Metroid. Ridley was more of an actual boss fight while mother brain was kind of just for surprise and adds more to the story.
Ridley was the main driving antagonist throughout the plot, but mother brain was the "Bigger Bad" character behind everything.
Ridley is harder than mother brain in super, right?
@@pkmntrainerred4247 Mother Brain is easier becuase a lot of the fight is scripted, but she's definitely shown to be a lot stronger than Ridley.
@@BenjaminAnderson21 I meant gameplay wise which one is harder in the actual fight and it seems in case of Super Ridley wins
@@pkmntrainerred4247 yeah for sure
Ridley works like a charm in pre-Super games in the timeline. Just like Metroids work like a charm in pre-2 games in the timeline.
So, Prime subseries is great for both. Afterwards, as seen with Dread, the Space Pirates and Metroids are done as threats.
In other words Ridley's appearance in a game should be kept secret until the game released so as to surprise people, clever.
Ridley probably wont be in dread right?
I mean the guy was killed then healed with robotic body parts then defeated again THREE TIMES the finally killed only to be revived, killed again and then having his actual corpse consumed by the X parasite so for sure he is dead for real now right?
Right?
Ridley can regenerate from being blown to bits by missiles and can even restore his physical body completely after several games of needing mechanical enhancement, so if an X Parasite assimilated Ridley DNA that means either that Neo Ridley is still out there or Ridley managed to regenerate just enough so that he could challenge Samus again.
yeah he dead lol
*Ridley: activate secret cloning backup*
Federation: welp, time to call our favorite bounty hunter... again
Intros that aged like fine wine
You know, Ridley's absence in Federation Force makes me think of something that could be done with Ridley in a Galactic Federation focused game: Making him *COMPLETELY INVINCIBLE!!!*
Show the difference in power between the GF and Samus by making an enemy she fought and killed countless times *IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT* for the Federation.
Whenever he shows up, the only option is to *RUN!!!* And some segments would be almost like straight up horror games where the player has to run and hide constantly from a foe they simply cannot beat.
Another idea I wish Federation Force implemented would be to have Samus jump in and fight Ridley in-game, with the player only being able to assist Samus, i.e. power up a nearby turret to weaken Ridley with.
Think of it as a similar concept to the Perfect Dark Gaia fight from Sonic Unleashed. Chip is doing the primary fighting but the player, as Sonic, must assist him so he doesn't run out of health before the fight ends.
Indeed. Ridley should be a monster that everyone fears. He should be make the players truly understand what Samus felt about Ridley and why she still fears him. A demon that leaves no survivors behind.
@@toamatoro570 *Laughs in Unwiished where Sonic does most of the fighting*
At least for me, when I read the manga I always thought that Ridley communicated with Samus telepathically, you know, like in Pokémon, it would be odd to see these creatures talk like humans do, so telepathy seems very fitting and also let them gesticulate more instead of just talk and keep the flow of the story going instead of just spewing exposition.
While I could definitely go a game without ridley, I can’t help but notice the two games where he is the main antagonist, prime and super, are also the most popular.
The Metroid Prime is the main antagonist of the Prime trilogy, and while Ridley is arguably the *primary* antagonist of Super, Mother Brain is still the big bad and final boss of the game.
I think metroid Fusion should be where Ridleys legacy ends. It would be fitting since the X is so devastating it would leave a message how powerful it is that it put Ridley to the ground.
Purple, Extraterrestrial, Unknown, Amazing, Terodactyl, Dragon is one of my favorites creatures of all time. And yes i hope to see him AGAIN!!!

kinda of reminds me of Wild Dog from the time crisis games never the primary threat, but always present working under the big bad, and also seemingly dies at the end of every game only to come back in some way and aside from the 1st game has never been the final boss again, he even has his own unique boss theme that recurs in every game.
I absolutely love Ridley. Hes my favorite villain. Hes the Metroid Bowser or Ganondorf/Ganon. Ill always be happy to see Ridley no matter what
The only real difference between Ganon and Ridley is that Ridley is much more recurring since Ganon doesn't even directly show up in over half the Zelda games
Ridley is needed more as a enemy to remember more than something for the plot.
One thing I do fear about Ridley getting cloned/being reborn/whatever way he manages to cheat death in future installments is his relationship with Samus may weaken. I can believe him keeping his intellect and personality between reincarnations, but does he also keep his memories? Obviously Samus remembers him, how could she not, but does Ridley remember her? When he sees Samus in Other M after being reborn, does he actually remember his archenemy that’s foiled him at every turn, or does he just see some new annoying guy in fancy armor that’s just in the way?
I am pretty sure it is the latter. And it is not like the X in fusion would remember Other M either, because RIdley's brain was likely too damaged to be useful.
Great video. Ridley is a mainstay in the Metroid franchise. He should always come back as that one enemy Samus can't escape, and as you said in the video he's almost never the main driving force of the story. So bringing him back doesn't interfere with all the cool NEW stuff we get.
Nintendo is big on marketing their characters. Even more so with their early franchises. They aren't going to permanently kill off Metroid's most iconic villain who also has deep ties to Samus. He can die as many times as he wants but he always comes back.
Imagine not wanting a Ridley fight with the badass cinematography Dread is giving us. I don't care if Ridley revives because a single cell survived the Zebes explosion and he regenerated from that. Ridley is fucking cool. Bird magic is the only explanation I need to see the big boi come back.
All I can see is the lead of the Metroid team at Nintendo pulling the actual Ridley into his office.
'Mr. Ridley...'
Ridley: *Screeches*
'I... Don't know how to say this... Your popularity as of late has been... On the decline...'

I think we can do without Ridley for a game or two. After Fusion, unless they go with the idea I had (where Ridley didn't really die in Super Metroid and was captured by the Federation), there's really no way for him to come back unless he gets cloned, and that's too predictable. I'd rather see a new threat and/or resurrected Kraid. But if Ridley does come back he should totally be voiced by Nicholas Cage.
Not the bees!!! My eyes! My eyes!
Of course he's needed
His theme song is a bop
I really don't know why this question keeps getting asked. Every series has mainstay villians, and he's the coolest thing about the Metroid franchise. They need to just bring him back for good. Maybe even explore new story lines like a redemption arc or something similar.
NO. No redemption for Ridley, he's so popular because he's irredeemable and downright psychopathic. Besides we have a lot of redeemed or on and off antagonists in Nintendo as is ( some of these are non canon but still good examples
Bowser, Bowser Jr, King Dedede, Meta Knight, Malgor, Princess Hilda, Master Kohga, Medusa, Dark Pit, Viridi, Master and Crazy Hand, Marx, Dark Lord Gaol, Phosphora, Cia, Count Bleck, King Olly, Byrne, and Sooga.
Who's here after the announcement of metroid 5 dread?
Actually I have my own idea for bringing ridley back in this metroid story set after Metroid dread. The story is that after Samus defeated ridley in super metroid some space pirate's took him to a space pirate ship that left zebes before the planets destruction and with most of the space pirate high command dying on zebes and ridley being unconscious and undergoing repairs command of the space pirate's fell to weevil from metroid prime hunters. In the time since super metroid and the events of this story the space pirate's kept ridley on a frigate hidden along with the bulk of their forces on the fringes of known space away from the federation. By the time ridley is awoken he's yet again a cyborg but he's more machine than flesh like all thats left is everything above the abdominal region minus an arm, pretty much the story i have in mind is ridley returns and Samus having enough of ridley always coming back from the dead gose on a mission to hunt him down and kill him for good. Another thing i wanted to do is build more on the metroid world and even better flesh out Samus as an individual you know give her a personality and show her interacting with others people so kinda like what other M tried to do but you know, good. Lol

@@timotheebrasseur2539 that doesn’t necessarily make it a bad appearance. If anything, it’s a good surprise as it doesn’t jeopardise the plot (far from it, it feeds into ridley’s character as a monster that appears whenever he pleases to disturb samus' plans) and still offer a worthwhile gameplay experience
@@firenze6478 how does it uncanonize Other M? His appearance in Samus Returns doesn't affect Other M in any way
Metroid doesn't need Ridley but it wouldn't be the same without him. I think the fact that he has a personal connection to Samus makes his fights that much more meaningful. I think its good to keep him around aswell to really sell the fact that he truly is the cunning god of death.
Although if they bring back ridley it cant just be a clone. he needs to have the same mind, without that it lacks the personal feel of it
I like to see Ridley as a representation of Samus' trauma. No matter how hard she tries, she can never push away or forget what happened to her parents, and Ridley always comes back to haunt her tortured soul.
Pretty sure the only character he would get along with is Sephiroth
I think you can treat the Ridley appearances as an arc for Samus and thus he does run his course:
- child Samus: kills parents, traumatizes young Samus
- young Samus: barely able to face Ridley (despite having conquered stronger foes) due to PtSD and flashbacks
- mature Samus: can face Ridley with courage, having overcome her trauma
- even older Samus: absolutely owns zombie Ridley, showing how far she's come and also how Ridley's single-mindedness and reliance on cheap copies to stay alive has cost him. She dispatches the foe that was once her biggest fear while childing him have saying he shouldn't have come back.
Despite barely implied those events exteding from the Samus manga to Fusion kinda tell a complete story.
Did you know that Ridley actually did canonically die, in fact three Times?
Firstly on *Zebes* in super metroid, where even her/His/(whatever imma use feminine pronouns because i am bored) remains were bombed during the self destruct sequence, Then on the *BOTTLE SHIP* in Other M where samus killed the Clone, whose corpse was Then transferred to the *B.S.L. Station* in Fusion, where Ridley was Frozen in the sub-zero containment, Then infected by an X parasite, Then collapsed and turned into weird Ass X Ridley who destroys GBA speakers.
So, all three Ridley Versions are dead and bombed by a Huge Explosion in some way.
I am trying to figure this out with just replaying all of the games recently... Does that mean there is one more Ridley out there...? Or am I missing something???
For people who haven't played Samus Returns on the 3DS this is a SPOILER WARNING:
At the end of return of Samus you fight meta Ridley which I think he/her is suppose to be Zebes Ridley? Which means didn't get caught in a blast? Also is the same Ridley from the Prime Series as Prime takes place between both 1 & 2. But after you defeat Ridley leaving his/her body just there on the surface of SR388, and watch the post credits as the lizard thingy bites a mechanical hand. Then gets attacked by an X parasite. I feel like it is forshadowing another X Ridley out there in the universe since that mechanical hand was his? And the X are now free on SR388. And even though SR388 was destroyed at the end of Fusion. That doesn't mean Ridley could have escaped? Since it does have the memories of its host, and Ridley had to get on SR388 somehow. At first I assumed Fusions Ridley was just SR388 Ridley, but that wouldn't make sense? Or it would? Since the X could just shed its host form, and go reform somewhere else given the time, and since he is like one of the final bosses. The thing about the one on the B.S.L. station being Other M would make more sense though. Idk I seek answers is there one more Ridley out there???
@@Yuu-Ki-Oh I know it's been 10 months, but no. From what I've gathered up, Proteus Ridley is a hybrid of normal Ridley and meta ridley, with still highly wrecked Armor he got from samus in Metroid prime. So well when samus defeated Proteus Ridley his Armor was finally fully obliterated and we return to super Metroid Ridley, who is completely unarmored.
@@bredoffender yeah I looked into it a bit more, the corruption from Prime 3 gave Ridley regeneration, and is why he slowly sheds his mechanical self. Which resulted in Super Metroid Ridley being fully healed. Don't worry we can count on our big guy to returm somehow though :)
@@Yuu-Ki-Oh these fuckers will do it all for the sake of fan service
And I'm all in on it
I see him as a mad scientist with the knowledge of a vast array of scientific, stem and medical
Ridley is definitely the poster villain of the series but his (and his clone's) story is very nicely canonized and concluded. For the timeline's sake I don't think it would be worth seeing Ridley in Metroid Prime 4, Metroid Dread, or future Metroid projects. But I do love that purple space dragon monster!
I believe it does makes sense in Prime 4 given it takes place before Metroid 2/Samus Returns, which had Proteus Ridley and he's still alive
But Dread, yeah I doubt he'll appear after original being blown up on Zebes, and clone got wrecked af
It doesn't, but I do love him
Well... Actually... The main target in Zero Mission kinda was Ridley - the last boss in the game is his robotic clone.
Mother Brain: I’M SUPPOSED TO BE THE MAIN VILLAIN OF THIS FRANCHISE!
Ridley: *Unfortunately, history won’t see that way…*
Is he NEEDED? No. But, he’s a badass dragon who’s an iconic part of this series. One of my all time favorite antagonists.
He’s like a more faithful Starscream. Never the main guy, but always problematic.
They've really written themselves into a corner if they decide to bring Ridley back after Fusion. His frozen remains crumbled to dust, and Samus absorbed the X-parasite that mimicked him. So now what?...
"Nano-Ridleys, son?"
Fusion's Ridley was actually Other M's cloned Ridley. So the last we saw of OG Ridley (timeline wise) was Super Metroid. They could very easily BS saying some of his cells survived Zebes' explosion and slowly recovered. We saw in Samus Returns despite being beaten by Samus he very quickly regenerated the rest of his body leaving the mechanical parts behind. Just bird magic him alive again baaabbbyy.
@@ohhai10 So basically we'd have a clone of a cloned clone? Seems in line with the rest of the series lol.
Dread worked out without ridley, but at the same time we got kraid. So each first game boss gets their turns.
I love this video, and thank you for your insight. Case in point, Metroid dread has been absolutely phenomenal, and it’s currently in my top five favorite Metroid games ever, but it could never surpass the top 3 mark for me is because of Ridley’s absence. It’s an absolutely phenomenal game, and the fact that it ranks so high for me as a game that doesn’t have Ridley is absolutely huge in my book, because I’ve never done that with another game not featuring him; it may be the lowest ranked game on S tier for me, but it is still definitely S tier.
He has the most history with Samus as a villain and by far has had the largest impact; although Raven beak is a phenomenal new villain and force, in my opinion he still only the second best villain of the franchise. If Ridley is going to finally meet his end then it needs to be done in a bigger manner that highlights him in all of his bill in his glory. Otherwise, he’s not done yet
Honestly, I think it would awesome if Ridley spoke, like when Metroid 6 happens somewhere halfway through the game you hear him manical cackleing, echoing through the walls, taunting and her saying "Miss me Samus? Ca ha ha ha haa! You know me...I'm alway back for more! You'll never be rid of me, Samus! *Neo* before my strength as I tear you apart!" then Neo-Ridley bursts through the floor

Talks about FF14
>inmediately proceeds to show monster hunter
I still loove you man
Ridley is the most powerful being in the universe. He has been blown to pieces many times then resurrected, cybernetically enhanced, and hell even turned into robot. My favorite Ridley is Solid Ridley in Super Metroid. Liquid Ridley was destroyed in Metroid Zero Mission. Solidus Ridley was Fusion
Ridley should be either telepathic or the space pirates as a whole should communicate through alien screeches and clicks. Imagine a scene where the space pirates cower before him in a dark chamber deep beneath Zebes. His eyes light up, and low clicks and growls fill the air. One of the pirates turns around and points his claw toward the exit, as if giving orders. Aliens don't have to speak English.
Ridley could be used like Vile from Mega Man X, being a recurring character, but not showing up all the time. It actually would make it all the more exciting when he shows up.
Apparently not because he was completely absent in dread. And now dread is one of my favorite games of all time.
You know what would be cool for Metroid Dread? If we got a member of the Ridley species team up with Samus.
How I see it, this "Ridley" inherited leadership of the remaining Space Pirate force. Now that the GSF is clearly the biggest military force in the galaxy and Samus renegade from them, this "Ridley" would see Samus as a new "enemy of my enemy," won't have all the same baggage as the old one, and willing to do what it takes to gain power, even if it means temporarily teaming up with their hated foe.
That JustAPancake style opening was perfection
The bigger question is, would we miss him if he didn’t appear?
Yes
Yesh
I guess, but I already miss fighting the other Metroid Bosses that don't get as much attention as Ridley. : (
0:06 Little did he know this game would basically be announced at e3
Well metroid isn't that much about formula, so that might explain why we have had many different stories and villains.
Ridley might not need that much time on screen or talk, however maybe reading some files written by him would fit.
Though if they ever make him talk and if it's done right, I wouldn't go crazy saying that metroid is not about that and they ruined the character.
I think it's fine if he doesn't talk, but I'm open for the chance to see that
Ridley is the Ganondorf of the Metroid Series.
The big difference being that he's been defeated several times by the same Samus, while Ganondorf has been defeated by several different Links across three timelines, so that makes the writing a bit more complicated.
Perhaps she could run into more members of his race where some are good/neutral/evil, but she starts the game thinking they all pose a threat to everyone.
..So Dread.. was just announced... hope I see any kind of reaction from you :D
A Metroid game that really did have Ridley as the main antagonist/evil force would be great as a way to explore his rivalry with Samus. I do like him as is in the series but at least one game where this happens would be great.
Not retaliated to the video, great work by the way, but I think that the space Pirates should appear less in the games since when the pirates are there Ridley is usually there so I think it would be more interesting to have a different enemy completely that doesn't use or consume the space pirates. however it would be really cool if the new enemies had Ridley and an enemy that looks like Ridley but isn't since it would imply there is more of Ridley species so if they turned up it would install a sense of Fear like Ridley does but in the Boss Fight Samus would fight like she would with Ridley but the half way through the boss fight they would change into something different with an entirely different move set and once defeated they would run away, which would leave Samus confused when she fights Ridley in the game and so when you get to the end of the game depending on the choices you made in game you would fight Ridley or Ridley second cousin/ Ridley look alike so when you beat the game. Samus would make a comment talking/saying/thinking about how there is more than just Ridley but an entire Species which could be expanded on in later games.
This would also give Ridley his first FINAL Boss appearance and not a second to last Boss, doing this would shake up the formula that us Metroid fans know and love while at the same time providing something new and different for the series altogether and the Lore of this Series as well.
Though this is really just food for thought and I really needed to put it out into the world and not just Fade away in my brain. Thank you for reading my comment and have a good day.
The only way to really say a final goodbye to Ridley is to remake Fusion and have a more detailed explanation of the final Ridley appearance in the form of an X parasite.
I think the Purple X-Parasite at the end of the game could have fused Raven Beak with Ridley instead of Kraid to give the finale a bit more meaning seeing Samus become so strong that she can just beam her Nemesis to death without trying
I do understand if Ridley shows up in Metroid Prime 4 but not in Metroid Dread since he supposed to be dead after Super Metroid or Metroid fusion Metroid prime games takes place before Metroid 2 the return of Samus or now the remake Metroid Samus Returns I don't want Ridley to magically return in Metroid Dread great video as always.
I would love to see more of Samus with regular people, or maybe they could do something with that whole Smaus's brother plot line.
I think it's more about how many times can they canonically revive Ridley before it becomes stupid and forced
3:12 "Bird magic" well said
I think having Ridley be silent would also be a good way of conveying how alien he is. It’s not like he’s pretending to be animalistic; we all know he’s the leader of the space pirates. He’s not hiding his intellect. He only appears animalistic because he does not express the characteristics humans associate with intelligence. He’s so alien you can’t read his emotions. His species might not be capable of speaking English, or any other language used by the federation. He doesn’t have lips, after all. And even if he were capable, it’d make sense if he willingly chose not to, in defiance of the federation.
Also, as far as bringing back Ridley goes, if the Space Pirates are loyal enough to constantly repair him every time he’s injured by Samus (a courtesy they don’t seem to extend to Kraid or Mother Brain, interestingly), I feel like they could just clone him.
1:05 Three games? What three games?
He was in the latest Metroid game.
And one of the games he wasn't in was Federation Force.
He's absent in Prime Hunters, Prime 2 and Federation Force.
The Original Metroid 2 also didn't have him.
To me Ridley was totally unnecessary on the Metroid 2 Remake entirely. It makes his dramatic appearance in Super Metroid less impactful/ dramatic. It would be like "There is the Baby Metroid, Oh Ridley! You again!? I just killed you at SR388 how TF did you get here?"
No of course he’s not needed, but Ridley’s I think the Samus Returns cameo is acceptable. I’d say it’s dangerous to begin discussion of removing Ridley, and I’d disagree with his permanent removal. What I would love, is to use existing Metroid bosses as main antagonists in future games. For example, a Phantoon-focused Metroid would be really interesting.
Yes because everyone loves Ridley ❤️❤️❤️ it's always my favorite battle. He is the Immortal Mecha Space Pterodactyl Dragon
I'd like it if in a Metroid Movie Ridley was portrayed as a beast running on instincts, to the point even Samus thought this was the case amd that he killed her mother just in Feral Carnage.
So when it comes to the Fight between them Samus fights Ridley as if he's any other Creature, but then Ridley flips the table by suddenly subdueing her and then speaking. Not just revealing he's sentient...but also the Leader of the space pirates.
Shocking Samus...but also making her realise he Killed her Mother out of shere cruelty..which send her into a fit of Rage that focuses all the hatred she had for the Pirates all onto Ridley, Overwhelming the space dragon.
Not gonna lie...if Metroid gets a movie I think it needs to be at least somewhat graphic.
PG-13 or higher.
Ridley is dead, but he has been cloned before. He’s like Jango Fett in that regard. Who’s to say whether or not he could ever be cloned again?
Oh cool we get to have the sound now
Yeah square brained late night Albert did know how to properly export stuff, what a hoax
I hope that Dread doesn’t have Ridley. He’s finally dead. Let him stay that way.
Hey, at least we got Kraid.
