While Ridley debuted in the first Metroid game I think it was Super Metroid that made him an iconic villain we know & love. I'm so excited for Metroid Dread.
Super Metroid's Ridley battle is difficult in great part due to how unpredictable it is. While Samus does have some limited ability to manipulate his action, he often uses his tail to throw her off, so the only reliable way to defeat him is extreme aggression. This is especially true in randomized hacks, where the Ridley battle might be forced early, compelling Samus to fight him without some of the more useful upgrades.
Funny thing: I was playing through Super Metroid today and managed to defeat Ridley not too long ago. How fitting is that. I dread to see what way he'll be included in dread if he even makes an appearance.
I’d personally put Proteus Ridley on there. Yes it’s different from the original, but it’s such a well-crafted boss fight that it feels wrong not to have it. Other M’s Ridley fight is also surprisingly good, though it’s stuck with being in Other M. I also think the original version of Prime’s Meta Ridley boss fight is better than the post-PAL version where he wastes a lot of time doing the shockwave attack. Still a good list.
I have to ask, if ranked purely in terms of gameplay and not as much story, where would Proteus Ridley rank? Because while I agree with the consensus that his inclusion really screws up the narrative and a bunch of other things Metroid 2 originally had going for it (although I also really enjoy seeing the baby metroid attack and not just eat crystals), I absolutely adored the boss fight itself, and especially the music. It might be my favorite of the 2D Ridley fights and 2D Metroid boss fights in general, as I still haven’t played any of the Prime games (my emulator doesn’t like Metroid Prime, I really should find my Wii U and buy the trilogy), but I’m curious as to yours opinion
I think he's definitely dead now. I mean, he was already permanently dead in Super Metroid, then they cloned him from his blood left in Samus' suit, and then this wild, primitive copy was killed by Samus again, only to be put in the freezer in the BLS station by the Galactic Federation, only to be infected by an X parasite and again defeated and consumed by Samus. So at most they could reclone it but it would be a bit obvious and redundant, and then it would no longer have its Space Pirate status but would be the simple laboratory animal of the Federation
He’s pretty tough in Super Metroid. Probably the hardest boss in that game. In Prime he’s also a big difficulty jump for many people, though I find him very easy.

@@Nazo-kage A shame he was forced into Metroid 2's official remake. Though to be honest, what bothers me is WHERE they decided to put him. Samus Returns should have included Super Metroid's Ceres Station, a far more fitting location to battle Proteus Ridley that doesn't require any retcon.
@@ultraspinalki11 don’t think of it as a Retcon just think of it as what it was a remake. Just like with the first Metroid with Metroid zero mention the added in a whole bunch of new stuff. They may very well be having a super Metroid remake in the mix somewhere down the line.
@@Nazo-kage The thing is, Zero Mission's new content doesn't conflict with pre-established events from the original version. Samus Returns' inclusion of Ridley not only removes what was once a unique ending seen nowhere else in the series, but also turns Samus into a sort of clutz. Think about it. Samus JUST saw Ridley on SR388 but nevertheless chooses to bring the last living Metroid to Ceres and leaves. Her decision is justifiable if she had not seen Ridley at all, like in the original Metroid 2.
samus returns ruined the ending of metroid 2 before the proteus ridley fight, and the proteus ridley fight was it's best replacement even if it could have been set up better. Also it fixed multiple plotholes. Also samus & the baby tag teaming Ridley.

Those Spr Metroid, Fusion and much less Smash Bros fights are NOT better than Samus Returns fight... not even close. SR is a much better fight and challenge. This is just a nostalgia list.
Super Metroid's Ridley fight was trash. What idiot at Nintendo thought it would be a good idea to have lava take up almost half of the screen. Now you're forced to blindly jump in the air and most likely get hit.
The lava only takes up a third of the lower screen and has a wide platform that's at least two thirds the width of the screen for Samus to stand on. That leaves a good 80+% of the playing field for the fight, more than enough room to move around. It's a tough, but fair battle, as anyone who has taken the time to become reasonably competent at Super Metroid can attest to.
@@g.davidturnblom5751 There's not much to become competent at in Super Metroid. That's why there's a bunch of non-bosses like Mother Brain and Crocomire. That's also the reason why everything was improved in Fusion. The whole game is basically style over substance. Not that that's a bad thing, but don't kid yourself into thinking it's a sound game.
@@imafreakinninja12 There is actually plenty to become competent at, which is why it's the most popular of the Metroid titles for both speed running and hacking. It takes a lot of time and effort to become good. I am a capable player, but I can't hope to compete against any of the best players. Fusion and Zero Mission have decent controls, but they lack a lot of the finesse and flexibility that Super Metroid offers. Neither has the capability of taking over the position Super Metroid has in the Metroid community.
@@g.davidturnblom5751 Believe me, you don't have to try to get 100 percent in the game, where as Fusion and Zero Mission take a lot of effort to get the best ending. Fusion was a lot better. I think fans are just blinded by nostalgia. Just because a game is so broken, you can do almost anything and go anywhere doesn't make it a solid game.

The only time he was ever actually hard was in Metroid Samus Returns, in every previous gane he appeared in he was a complete joke of a boss fight.
He’s pretty tough in Super Metroid. Probably the hardest boss in that game.
