Season 4 is my favorite season. It has the MOST moments I'm looking forward to you reacting too. Like so many... Season 4 doesn't cut anything too important. The cuts were in this OVA. The start of nationals until the end of the series is just masterclass storytelling. Ah!
I am glad that finally these reactions are uploaded!! The names of high schools in Haikyuu often contain animals, for example Karasuno (烏野) contains a crow (烏 Karasu=crow, 野 No=Field). Although the individual kanji characters have different meanings*, Nohebi (戸美), which appears in this ova, contains a snake (蛇 Hebi). Fukuroudani (梟谷) contains a owl (梟 Hukurou=owl, 谷 Dani=Valley), Itachiyama (井闥山) contains a weasel(鼬 Itachi), and Nekoma (音駒)contains a cat (猫 Neko). The few exceptions are Date Kogyo and Aoba Jyosai (青葉城西). Miyagi Prefecture, where Karasuno High School is located, was ruled by the Date clan several hundred years ago. The Date clan lived in Aoba(青葉) Castle(城). 西 means west. So these high schools are made up of words associated with Miyagi Prefecture. * 戸 Nohe means a house or a door and 美 Bi means beautiful. 井 I = a water well, 闥 Tachi = gate, 山 Yama = mountain 音 Ne = sound, 駒 Koma = Horse
The growth on lev this series of episodes is soo sweet, seeing him get exited for something that is not scoring or looking directly cool is such a huge thing, his understanding of the balance of the team and his role will lead him to be such a better player (and probably put more effort into the most basic aspects of the game, instead of just the flashy ones)
I'm a dancer. So when I have to master specific movement that required more practice and after I mastered it I sometimes forgot another "difficult" movement that I learned three days before.
This OVA is to determine the representatives for Tokyo. Most prefectures only get one representative (Karasuno for Miyagi prefecture) but since Tokyo is such a large prefecture, it actually gets two representatives. The two teams that make it to the finals (Fukurodani and Itachiyama) become the representatives of the Tokyo Prefecture for nationals. However, since Tokyo is also hosting the national tournament, it also gets a venue sponsor, meaning there are going to be three teams from Tokyo at the national tournament. This venue sponsor spot is what the losers of the semi-finals (Nekoma and Nohebi) play for. Hope that makes sense!
When Kuroo said about the brain he meant kenma, back then in season 1 when we were first introduced to nekoma he mentioned that kenma is the brain and backbone of the team
Ok, finally caught up with you. I started watching your reactions on Season 3 but soon realized they were too good to miss out, had to go back and watch all the videos from episode one of Season one onwards. Thank you from reigniting my love for Haikyuu!
Some tidbits that might not be clear to English speakers: First, Land vs. Air actually represents the mascots of Nekoma (cat -> land animal) and Fukurodani (owl -> airborne animal). You managed to relate it to volleyball as a battle between grounded defense vs. a soaring offense, so very cool! Second, while the kanji for Nohebi (戸美) mean something different, "hebi" with the following kanji (蛇) means snake. It's definitely a clear analogy what with Suguru having snakey eyes and snakey personality along with the general behavior of the Nohebi team itself, trash talking while acting nice and playing dirty. Binged all of your reactions over December, happily waiting for your season 4 reactions!
Also, everything you've watched in these two OVAs was animated by the new team that's doing Season 4! I know Season 4 gets a bad rep for having worse animation, but I personally think while the first three seasons had exquisite detail and animation quality, Season 4 only loses a TINY bit of that in favor of less rigid faces (look at how much softer Shimizu and Yachi's faces become!) and more fluid movement.
23:16 The teams that advanced to the semifinals are Nekoma, Fukurodani, No Haebi and Itachiyamai. And Nekoma and No Haebi lost in the semifinals. Since Tokyo has three seeds, Itachiyama and Fukurodani are confirmed to go to the National, and Nekoma and No Haebi will compete for the remaining one. +Itachiyama, who won the final, is the winner of the last Interhigh qualifying national tournament. +Itachiyama has a national top three Ace, Kiyomi Sakusa (the same level as Ushiwaka).
sarah being able to read what play they'll do is actually crazy. 43:00 on reading the dump from kenma is so interesting how knowledgeable she is on the game. Not like i ever doubted. but more that the anime is that realistic she can read what might happen
4:00 Four prefectures get 2 representatives due to their size (number of schools): Hokkaido, Kanagawa, Osaka, and Tokyo. In the manga, it was changed from Osaka to Aichi for some reason. But those 4 are the ones that get 2 representatives in real life.
I started to appreciate Nohebi more when I came around to watching the show again, after knowing that their ace was injured and that they weren't just some lazy dudes trying to cover up their lack of training with cheap tactics and provocation but, on the contrary, they are simply doing their best both in the mental and the physical fields. I quite like that they are that desperate to win, it makes a lot of sense considering the kind of fierce competition a team would face in a huge prefecture like Tokyo. Looking forward to the S4 reacts
genie Sarah was strong this episode (OVA)!! and yes yes yes so here for all the Yaku appreciation and Nekoma love :') they are such a precious team. season 4 is gonna be a blast!

Yeah!!! Thank you for reacting to this. It’s always a pleasure to watch you. There are a few of my favorite scenes in this. And Yaku is such an amazing player and Senpai to Shibayama. As is Kuroo when he talks to Lev. But what I love the most is Kuroos up tempo attack at 44:11 it so beautiful animated.😻 Can’t wait for season 4. We will have so much fun with all the boys.😊
Season 4 is great. I am sure some people have already mentioned the quality of animation gets a little worse, but it's still great. I am looking forward to future videos!

I've been watching since when you began reacting to S1. I'm very confident in saying this now: be prepared to cry some very cathartic tears once S4 comes around.

I don't know if its already answered, I was watching the video. She watched it 2 weeks ago, in a live that was strike down twice. I arrived at the Shirabu moment.
If you still don't know.... Tokyo got 3 reps in nationals. Both in the finals got in.(fukurodani and itachiyama) The losing teams play for the 3rd. (Nekoma vs nohebi)
I didn't like Nohebi's play style either but I do like the team itself. Because even though they play dirty sometimes, they don't disregard polishing their skills. They aren't relying on dirty tricks only, they are actual solid players who could very well play normally and still be considered a great team. They do it to get that little extra advantage. And I can respect them as a team because they put in the work to be good at the sport they love instead of being like "fuck the skills, all we have to do is cheat". Also, I'm not gonna lie, the fact that Kuroo likes them helped me to like them too, after all he thinks Suguru is a fun guy and in the rest of the series I can totally see that so maybe you will soften up a little too😂😂
loved watching 2 episodes back to back, great reaction as always Sarah. Now, let's go to season 4 or oh do you plan to update your all star team to include Season 3 and OVA content, we did get to see shiratorizawa, fukurodani and nekoma more, wait let me ask this for the live stream planned for today. The baby animals shown in the episode break are so fun and not at all random. When it was bokuto and akaashi owls flying over, kuroo kitty was so excited but kenma one was sleeping but in the next one when hinata crow came up, kenma got so lively, haha what a fun way to show the personalities. There is an extra scene/panel in the manga where kuroo comes to the defense of Nohebi team. @TrianaNero has given the details of this encounter in the comments. Chapter 206 if anyone's interested
@@SarahPavanVolleyball yup, definitely. Like last time, I would love to make a team to go up against your all star team, plus share my own all star team. Let me know how you are planning to go about this.
I think the tournament slots per prefecture are based on population. Like Tokyo gets two slots because Tokyo has a ton of high schools. As I understand it, every prefecture that has a high school gets a slot. Miyagi Prefecture (where Karasuno is set) has 21 highschools, so they only get the one slot. Metropolitan Tokyo has over 200 high schools, I think, so they get an extra slot (plus the venue host slot) so three teams from there get into the Nationals. Other prefectures and Met areas with a lot of high schools might get an extra slot as well. I think that's how it goes anyway, at least for Haikyu, I don't know if it's accurate for the actual Haruko Tournament in Japan (which was held for 2023 from Jan 4 to 8 apparently)
I played Rugby all through High-School partially tore multiple ligaments in my ankle and couldn’t play in our semifinal playoff game we ended up losing. That shit sucked. What’s worse is I got injured in a damn scrimmage.
There are going to be more female characters in season 4 don't worry. There's a few special moments with already known ones plus backstory for new characters.
Loved this reaction and honestly I'm always here for Sarah trash talking the other team haha, especially Nohebi, they do actually kinda deserve it XD Also so glad she finally got to know Yaku a bit more and these OVA episodes really had some great things going on with the bond between the Nekoma third years receiving more attention and the lesson Lev got to learn about teamwork with Shibayama! :D
Washijo-Sensei's reaction to his team after their defeat was not a showcase example for him being detached or lacking affection towards the boys, but by maintaining his rather detached posture he was actually showing his compassion and appreciation toward his team. it's not that he's stone cold. He would usually crack down hard on his team just for making the slightest of mistakes in a game and yet this time, even after losing the most important game of the season, he didn't. So, him being so seemingly detached to the situation and telling his team to get on the bus and do a hundred serves upon arrival as if it were normal business was the way he showed how much moved he was by their play. Actually, him telling the guys to do a hundred serves made the kids feel, "That's our Washijo-Sensei". He washed away their anxiety and insecurity of the moment and at the same time told them that nothing has changed and that they were just as superb a team as they were despite the loss, simultaneously telling them that this wasn't the end of the world. I know many Western people will feel puzzled, but men of the older generation in Japan were taught neither to talk or show emotion too much; just take on your every day responsibilities and move forth. Things are changing in Japan, and the younger generation are not like that anymore. Yet, the culture where we see more in the absence of words than in the presence of them still heavily remains. That's probably why you (Sarah) sometimes feel the urge that you need to hear more when watching certain scenes. To us, the absence of words accounts more for the beauty of the scene than it takes away from it. Weird people, aren't we. I'm in my fifties and I can't remember just once when my father gave me a compliment, no matter what I did right. When I won my first painting competition, when I became president of the student council both in middle school and high school, when I graduated top of our class, when I was accepted at one of the most prestigious universities in Japan, he'd just say "Um" in a stern voice with a nod and that was it, and that was enough. I never doubted his love and affection towards me. I knew he was proud. Sadly, he passed away when I was twenty, so he didn't see me earn my PhD or my getting married. The funny thing is, despite the fact that I did achieve quite a bit in my early life, at present I'm unemployed, looking for a job in utter poverty, having the hardest time of my life. And when I imagine what my father would say to me if he were still alive, I can only imagine him saying "um" and nothing else, and that actually soothes my worries and encourages me to stay put and firm, and to go on. Well, just for reference, my father was a bit old fashioned even in comparison to his own generation, so, you know...
I’m so excited for you to watch season 4 it is probably my favourite season, I know it gets a lot of hate for the animation, but it definitely gets better as the season goes on, but the thing that makes it amazing is the story
So if you noticed, the name of the big schools in Haikyuu represent what kind of animals being potrayed. The "Karasu" in Karasuno means crows, "Neko" in Nekoma means cats, "Shiratori" in Shiratorizawa means white bird, "Hebi" in Nohebi means snake, and "Fukuro" in Fukurodani means owls, that's why Bokuto's hair looks like an owl.
Your perception of why it's land and air is so cool. I always thought that it was because of the animals associated to each team (a cat and an owl????)

@@JO.FE17 then who is please tell me? Kiryu? Sakusa is the best ace in the country before national tournament arc.
@@gemthemage it's obvious that ushijima is top 1, sakusa and kyryu treat him like he's a god, I won't give spoilers here because she might end up reading it but the manga makes it clear that ushijima is the player everyone looks up to.
6:04 This is already from season 1 episode 12.
Kenma is the brain.
And to make up for Kenma's lack of stamina, all of Nekoma's players try to make a good pass so that the ball falls over Kenma's head.
Season 4 is my favorite season. It has the MOST moments I'm looking forward to you reacting too. Like so many... Season 4 doesn't cut anything too important. The cuts were in this OVA.
The start of nationals until the end of the series is just masterclass storytelling. Ah!
I'm expecting many more moments of crying and full body chills
*
戸 Nohe means a house or a door and 美 Bi means beautiful.
井 I = a water well, 闥 Tachi = gate, 山 Yama = mountain
音 Ne = sound, 駒 Koma = Horse
When people say there's not a team or player in Haikyuu you can hate, Nohebi is usually the exception 😂
Yesss, Yaku-san finally got his recognition! Great reaction Sarah
このチャンネルは最高です!
選手の気持ちを分かってるし、サラさんのバレーボールへの愛が感じられます!🏐💖
31:56 kuroo using science-based insults at yaku always gets me 🤣 he's such a nerd and we love him 🥰
In a show where we end up rooting for so many of the opposing teams, it's almost refreshing to have a team of real villains show up.
Some tidbits that might not be clear to English speakers:
First, Land vs.
+Itachiyama has a national top three Ace, Kiyomi Sakusa (the same level as Ushiwaka).
love the note detail:
- Lev fails an attack
- note says " *How to attack a Volleyball for Beginners: The Arm Swing* "
Super excited to see what the new year has for you and this community 😊
Happy new year!! Thank you!
sarah being able to read what play they'll do is actually crazy.
Looking forward to the S4 reacts
this right here^^^^
Same here, I really began appreciating them way more after reading the manga
Yes!
And I like them too because of Kuguri. Later I liked Numai too. Unfortunately, a lot of scenes were cut. 😢
genie Sarah was strong this episode (OVA)!! and yes yes yes so here for all the Yaku appreciation and Nekoma love :') they are such a precious team. season 4 is gonna be a blast!
I lived in Sendai Japan in miyagi prefecture for a while before knowing what haikyuu is and it was the best time of my life. Finding haikyuu after returning to the U.S. helped me feel back at home. I've been really enjoying your episode reactions and insights! ❤️✨
OMG yes! I was literally just rewatching season 4 of Haikyuu and these OVAs and I was just thinking about how much I want to see your reaction to everything, you uploaded at the perfect time! And it's 1 hour long, I can't wait to watch it!
Love the username! I was just tearing up watching some YOI snippets earlier today...
I never get tired of the...
"I'M AN OLYMPIAN"
...introduction.
It's as if Artemis or Athena had a UA-cam channel.
Yeah!!! Thank you for reacting to this. It’s always a pleasure to watch you.
There are a few of my favorite scenes in this. For example how Akaashi catches Bokutos jacket at 4:34 or when Akaashi literally has weaknesses of Bokuto numbered 😂 there are over 37😅 18:16
Also Lev just smashing the ball down 29:11 and the standing there like a tower is so cool.
And Yaku is such an amazing player and Senpai to Shibayama. As is Kuroo when he talks to Lev.
But what I love the most is Kuroos up tempo attack at 44:11 it so beautiful animated.😻
Can’t wait for season 4. We will have so much fun with all the boys.😊
Season 4 is great. I am sure some people have already mentioned the quality of animation gets a little worse, but it's still great. I am looking forward to future videos!
57:19 seemed like most of the reactors didn't care much but for me I'm so interested of itachimaya eversince in season 2 when it was mentioned that sakusa one of the top3 aces.
Thank you so much for fun reaction! I really like your commentary. I'm so glad that you watched OVAs and could get to know the teams better! Really excited for the next season! I know you're going to love it! ❤️
3:59
I think there are a lot of people living in Tokyo, so there must be a lot of volleyball teams.
I think that's why Tokyo gets that much seed.
this is such a joy to see in my feed.
this made my week!
I am glad you were able to figure out a way to re-release this I missed the live
19:30 The yips actually becomes a problem for a few characters in a baseball anime called Diamond no Ace (Ace of the Diamond). That's another good sports anime, but it's pretty dang long with 178 episodes and still waiting for the next season - I'd still recommend the movie Silent Voice before anything else, though (I'm not sure if you put up a post for members to decide on what to watch after Haikyuu yet or not).
one thing i really do love about Haikyuu is all the different styles of teams. showing that there is no 'correct' team type.
Welcome back from your Holiday! Can't wait for your reaction to Season4
Wow! A double feature! Such a treat after a break. Thank you ^_^
I've been watching since when you began reacting to S1. I'm very confident in saying this now: be prepared to cry some very cathartic tears once S4 comes around.
I'm dying from the edit of shiratorizawa LOL 😂
no because i really love nohebi's mascot.. i really love snakes so much though in anime, series or movies they always portray the "snakes" as the bad guys like broooo
I love your videos, especially your reactions!!!
omg.. i remember watching these ovas the first time and SOBBING when yaku hurt his ankle! i sobbed as if he died or something, but to me yaku having to go out really felt like death in a way
I was expecting for this!! And, as we all know, next episodies are fucking insane and funny and explosives and beautiful ❤️ thnak u for reacting
Kenma is the brain. The speech Kuroo gives at the beginning is the same as always: They do their best to keep the ball alive so Kenma can do his thing.
Loved this OVA! I can't wait to watch your reaction to Season 4. You'll have another setter to choose from for your All Star Season 4 Team! I'm excited!
Can't wait for you to finally watch season 4!! My personal favorite in s4 in episode 9
been watching your reactions without commenting, thankyou for your reactions TvT still can't get used about the different animation style but am excited to watch your reactions about the next season!
You pretty much got it correct. Paisen is just a funny way of saying senpai. It's usually only used with close friends.
You hit the nail on the head! "Paisen" is just "Senpai" backwards. It's just a slang/cutesy way of saying "senpai", but it means the same thing
Do not forget to watch the Shiratorizawa ending cut! It is a very good 2 minute watch to end season 3 as well
I don't know if its already answered, I was watching the video. She watched it 2 weeks ago, in a live that was strike down twice. I arrived at the Shirabu moment.
If there was one team that was going to feel like "villains," it would be Nohebi. And even they, in the end, come off as just kids playing volleyball.
If you still don't know.... Tokyo got 3 reps in nationals. Both in the finals got in.(fukurodani and itachiyama) The losing teams play for the 3rd. (Nekoma vs nohebi)
YAKU APPRECIATION!!! We love to see it! 🥳✨️
Also, I'm not gonna lie, the fact that Kuroo likes them helped me to like them too, after all he thinks Suguru is a fun guy and in the rest of the series I can totally see that so maybe you will soften up a little too😂😂
couldn't wait any longer, I love your reacts and there is a very long gap between them
Poor Akaashi, he works so hard and I love him ❤
loved watching 2 episodes back to back, great reaction as always Sarah.
You know I'll have to update the All-Star team. There are a lot more people to consider now. This is gonna be tough.
@@SarahPavanVolleyball yup, definitely. Like last time, I would love to make a team to go up against your all star team, plus share my own all star team. Let me know how you are planning to go about this.
@@SarahPavanVolleyball Maybe make something like a draft between you and fans during a live stream or something.. just a thought.
6:40 yeah, cuz everyone in the team is so obsess with Ushijima and Ushijima is obsess with volleyball
I think that's how it goes anyway, at least for Haikyu, I don't know if it's accurate for the actual Haruko Tournament in Japan (which was held for 2023 from Jan 4 to 8 apparently)
so excited for season 4!!!🎉
I played Rugby all through High-School partially tore multiple ligaments in my ankle and couldn’t play in our semifinal playoff game we ended up losing. That shit sucked. What’s worse is I got injured in a damn scrimmage.
Been waiting for this for so long. 😭😭
@TAP_-profile no thanks
There are going to be more female characters in season 4 don't worry. There's a few special moments with already known ones plus backstory for new characters.
Loved this reaction and honestly I'm always here for Sarah trash talking the other team haha, especially Nohebi, they do actually kinda deserve it XD
Also so glad she finally got to know Yaku a bit more and these OVA episodes really had some great things going on with the bond between the Nekoma third years receiving more attention and the lesson Lev got to learn about teamwork with Shibayama! :D
The snack team got some good tactics. Trying to play mental games with opponents and breaking their confidence is quite a unique strat.
I'm glad to finally see you back! Hopefully, you had a good winter holidays.
Well, just for reference, my father was a bit old fashioned even in comparison to his own generation, so, you know...
one hour video. blessed
Looking extra beautiful today!
Amazing reaction🔥👍
I guess I can say this, you will see more of the female characters in season 4.
And paisen is senpai, it's just a playful way of saying it.
Yayyy!! Ok great.
I’m so excited for you to watch season 4 it is probably my favourite season, I know it gets a lot of hate for the animation, but it definitely gets better as the season goes on, but the thing that makes it amazing is the story
Awww 😍 love to see you again. I thought you quit haikyuu reaction.
"Hit it! Right in the face!"..."or in front of him, that's nice too..."(disappointed tone) LoL That's was classic!
2 episodes yeaaaaah!!!
TWO EPISODES AHHHHH
Your perception of why it's land and air is so cool. I always thought that it was because of the animals associated to each team (a cat and an owl????)
Also 56:34 GODDAMNIT HAIKYUU!! HOw is it that you get us to care about a team member of a team we saw for one match and who was pretty much a dick throughout the game?? Stop it! stop being the best anime ever!
