You should make it so that there is a huge discount INITIALLY, then once you've helped them screw over Pierre, the prices skyrocket. A classic destroy the competition and then gouge a captive audience move.
There should be a mod wheee buying from Joja actively hurts Pierre’s business…..such as him not being able to stick certain items or having to put his prices up….or being able to pay you less for items sold to him!!!😊
I go for the community center only for the Junimos. Got the impression that you don't mess with forest spirits, especially when they decide to speak to you.
I'd love a mod where Joja actually turns up the heat with every room you unlock in the community center. I could imagine them pressuring another company or one of their contractors so they stop supplying Pierre or buying the train line or some other crazy big comglomerate shit. The mods you showcased are a good start though.
i mean, there's absolutely no reason for joja to do that. Think realistically for a moment.do you think they're going to spend so much money just to integrate into a small town which probably barely gives much profit?
Imean if you think about it joja may be loe quality but there's probably tons of shipping costs Pierre either has suppliers or grows his seeds and saplings himself
@@boredboi6279 but sipping costs in the real world are so low that it's a pretty non factor. Look at all the fresh fruits we have available all year round.
@@goferlp7011 oh ig that's fair then but what I said about Pierre could still be true with him either growing his stuff himself or having a local supplier that sells cheap
@@boredboi6279 mass production is always much cheaper than home grown vegetables/fruit. I mean we as a player are kinda doing mass production, so yeah you are probably right.
@@goferlp7011 "I mean we as a player are kinda doing mass production" Yeah. my current farm is roughly 1,200-1.300 monocrop farm (not counting a few sheds I have yet to make into pseudo-greenhouses) and the greenhouse. Can't really say they are "home grown", at least not hand cultivated.
For people who are curious about Joja Seeds: they in fact DO have the GMO-realistic detail that they can't be produced using the seed maker, when you put Joja crops in they turn into wild seeds. Also, per the mod description, they "cannot be assumed to have quite as much healing power as "normal" crops". There's a lot of nifty details in them, and I recommend anyone who's interested to read the mod description, it's got all the details.
Oh ok i thought they just added them to be better than normal crops which i kinda dislike like what is the point of doing community center route its like vanilla stardew valley but backward since people rarely pick joja thanks for clarifying
@@v0rtexbeaterWhile infertility isn't inherent to GMO crops, corporations like Monsanto often specifically make seeds that are meant to produce infertile plants. it increases profit if the farmers have to perpetually buy new seeds. farmers are also prohibited under US law from replanting seeds that successfully reproduced from crops they own the patent of
@@v0rtexbeater Many of them ARE less healthy though. They're selected to taste as good as possible and have better yields, sometimes at the detriment of quality.
Honestly, apart from lore-friendly prices, I want just two things: 1. From the seeds Joja sells, you get faster harvests, but what you gather also sells cheaper. Because it's bad, and with Pierre as a rival, in a town which residents know quality, you just can't demand a high price for a plastic-like tomato, as you would in a big city. 2. After you complete Joja's route, Pierre should be out of business; his shop closed forever and functioning as a mere house. I was sooo disappointed when I realized it's not what canonically happens, because... what was all that whining for, then? I want consequences! It's not exactly inappropriate to the world of depressed alcoholics, corrupted mayors and literal nice-guy-stalkers.
@@10kwithzerobitches20 Clint. Whenever you talk to him, he makes everything about himself, on holidays he whines about how no one appreciates his efforts to look cool (again, making everything about him), and every night he goes to the saloon just to watch the waitress. As one of the cutscenes shows, he sometimes follows her in the streets and watches her secretly. And whines again how she will never be interested in him. And completely abandons their friendship (as Emily views it), if you start dating her. I love Pelican town.
@@Lonely_Moth clint is a victim of the update that allows you to romance emily and i will die on that hill, he was probably kinda bad before, but the update makes him seem like a incel, because Concerned ape forgot to change his dialogue to not conflict with the emily romance path.
@@weeb_dweeb now I'm really interested in digging up the information about what he was like before that update (since 1.5 is my first and only, I've no idea). But I don't think Clint would appear much better... I mean... his absolutely ingenious line about shoes, for example, isn't all that tied to Emily, I imagine, and that line was exactly what made me start *noticing* stuff. With or without Emily, he seems to be that kind of a person who considers everything transactional and thinks, if he does a tiny ordinary thing, people are obligated to praise him for it, so he does things he doesn't want to do to get what "should" be his, and when people naturally don't care, gets upset with them 🤷🏼♀️
@@Lonely_Moth yeah, he still kinda annoying, but he is extremely overhated, you'd be surprised by the amount of people who would tell clint fans to kys, the hate he gets is extremely undeserved, he doesn't even directly insult anybody in the game (from what i have seen).
But they are. You don't see seeds being sold in the middle of summer for a spring plant, after all. Why waste shelf space on something no one wants to buy just yet?
@@tomechan5139 Because some people like to stock up on seeds? Or an in-universe explanation of overstock bleeding into the next season, or pre-stock in preparation. I absolutely see seeds being sold out of season IRL, so why not in a video game where you can eat a fish that's been in your pocket for five years?
Joja never felt like a real option in the base game so these mods are cool to see. BTW the Joja Seeds Mod also adds Heirloom Seeds for Pierre's, so there's still something there for those who hate Joja. I kind of wish Joja was more of a short term convenience, but long term hindrance. Also, wish it was more of a threat to the whole valley rather than just Pierre. Like if Joja would go on to replace other vendors & services like Clint, Robin, & Willy, and even Joja-fy the Ginger Island. Completing the Joja Warehouse would then mark them driving out all their competitors, permanently closing the other vendors. Then Joja hikes up the prices. EDIT: Mixed up names of sad guys with facial hair, whose name begins with 'C'...Sorry Clive Handforth...
The fact that they only compete with Pierre and Pierre incidentally sucks has always made me kind of prefer Joja and not really be too conflicted about it.
@@Mark-nn2ce I get what you mean, I don't prefer them but I don't feel that bad about buying something from there if I can't go to pierre's (cough cough on Wednesday if I need seeds!)
I agree that since Joja is actually the better/easier choice for the player, the game would be improved if bad consequences would happen over time after choosing Joja. Maybe all the other vendors should raise their prices even if Joja doesn't. Maybe Pierre has to quit his job and go work at Joja as a cashier, and you lose access to the backpack and fruit trees and fertilizers. Maybe everyone in town takes a friendship hit of five hearts against you, because everyone knows it's your fault this all happened.
I have a few more Joja mods that I'm currently using: - Juliet and Jessie the Jola Clerks - adds two NPCs that work at Joja (house is behind the CC). Adds cutscenes and another reason to visit the store every day. - Abigail and Juliet Prank the Jojamart - adds four events for Abigail and Juliet where they prank Morris & the Jojamart - Joja Immersion (Joja Needs Nuance) - if you go the Joja route, when you fix up the bus, minecarts, etc, there's no reaction from the villagers. This adds dialogue for NPCs reacting to Joja's work around the valley.
I wish I could figure out event modding, because I always found the character dialogue, after a point, limited. Would be fun to add a lot more dialogue, and like I said up top, making full on events would be completely freaking awesome!
I think it would be cool of the people in town that rely on Jojamart to be much harder to befriend after you shut it down. Even a straight back to zero like with divorce. Its clear through dialogue that people like Pam, Jodi and their families need the lower prices from joja to get by, especially pam. It doesnt make sense that you can be bestfriends or married to shane after you essentially took his job. There should be at lest a little resentment there. Sam i can forgive more because his job reads more as a older teenager's part-time job. Idk i think it would add a little nuance to the friendship/marriage system.
That would be pretty cool, I feel like the community center would have to shift its cutscene a little bit since in one of the options is the town boycotting Joja, but I think adding in some more reactions and results to removing Joja would be great. Especially if there were actual downsides to removing a large corporation other then losing the autopetter.
@@natsukifan8736 maybe have a dialogue where he feels bad that he can't financially support Marnie anymore, and that's what helps drive him to make his blue chickens. That way he can sell those and get stupid rich off his new breed of chicken
I mean it was never the farmer that shut them down. If their business was so fragile that a single person fixing a community center, meant to help people and has nothing to do with any kind of business, could run them out of town then that’s on them
Am I the only one who noticed that the Joja tomatoes were called Joja FRUIT meanwhile the regular tomatoes were called VEGETABLE? We’re gonna give Demetrius a heart attack 😅
@@permafrost7875 They were also classified as vegetables by a SCOTUS ruling in the 1800s back when there were special tariffs on vegetables that tomato importers were looking to avoid. See Nix v. Hedden (1893)
I actually really like that the corn can’t be re-harvested since it mirrors real life. Big seed/farming companies sell seeds that actually can’t be used to regrow crops once they’re harvested, so you have to buy MORE from them, and Joja’s doing the same
These Joja mods are great additions. That Joja coffee cola would be a really useful buff. Also I just love the idea of there being a full range of Joja brand drinks with the villagers each having their preferred flavours.
And the villagers refusing to admit that they do like the drink, with a few exceptions, but they do appreciate it secretly and give you the same amount of friendship points they give you for Like items.
You finish the community center and go to the mines one day, seasons later, expecting everything to be settled. But then you turn a corner and just see Morris waiting behind a rock with a gun
When the easy choice is also the right choice, it's not much of a choice. I always prefer the "right" choice in a game to be harder as then it's up to your values, and you have to overcome a challenge to get a better ending.
I completely agree with this I think ConcernedApe was trying to do this with you not needing to collect everything for the community centre, but it really makes no change in the end
I think it would be a good idea to have Joja seeds worsen the plots they’ve been planted on if possible. It would help reinforce the point of Joja being a bad long term partner, give cons to balance out the seeds, and acknowledge that high yield crops can really screw up the soil their planted on if not regulated.
Yeah agree but I think that should also affect crops like starfruit as well honestly they are massively op in vanilla so having a system like that prevents the spamming of certain crops over and over again you need to balance out the crops for a healthy year’s harvest
@@victory8928gotta get a soil scientist over here to mod a system dealing with nutrient levels in crop fields. whole section making sure you remember to rotate crops to prevent just constantly planting only the most profitable crop of whatever season
@@quinnfarris If someone made that mod, Demetrius could give the tutorial bite for it and be the source of upgrades or QOL improvements for that system since that is his job.
Honestly, it's either side with the community and give Pierre a monopoly over the town (which he immediately attempts to abuse by selling your gold quality crops at 10x the market value) or sell out to the corporate machine that you're trying to escape from in the first place (which means that Sam and Shane keep working there). There really is no "right" choice if you want to progress. Unless, of course, something were to happen to Pierre. Like, something legal-troubles-y.
@@machintrucGaming True, but the player can theoretically cut out the middle man, which is where most of the costs towards products go. If you can buy direct from source, you end up paying significantly less than if you bought from retail, because retail adds a ton of extra fees to cover costs and make profits. If the game allowed, you could apply for a business permit and eventually put both Joja and Pierre out of business once you got Seed Makers. It's not like the villagers would have to go all that far out of their way for their groceries.
@@LAZERAK47V2 Two notes, one that would make the whole situation extremely sinister to monopoly opponents, as you basically own the town at that point, you earn like a hundred times more than the whole area without your property, and now you are the only food provider in proximity. Two: Monopoly of individuals does not always equate abuse of monopoly. It's like an absolute king or a dictator, sure, it is realistically terrible, especially as the persons of interest change, but in an ideal world it would be the perfect system
@@LAZERAK47V2 a mod where your spouse (or someone else you hire and pay) runs a store for you would be interesting. have there be a chance for someone in town to come buy things for a slightly higher price (10-20%?) than you'd get from using the shipping bin, so you get more money if you're willing to wait longer for it. or maybe have it as an online business where you ship your products out to other towns.
I always assumed the lower joja prices were for products the regular villagers would buy, seeds aren't bought that often so thats why they'd be pricier aside feom sunflower seeds which are both grown more commonly by people and also can be eaten. Though yeah i do think seeds should be the same price at joja and cheaper with membership because how it is now is kinda dumb
I think lowering the price on one item is known in the business as a "loss leader". The idea is you come for one product and stay to buy other things as well.
@@randomnerd9088 the smaller market means its less profitable though: there are lots of people buying groceries so its worth it for Joja to undercut Ma and Pa stores like Pierre's to get all those customers. Higher volume makes up for the lost profit. There's not as many customers looking to buy seeds in significant qualities (in the game its only you).
Would be interesting if the Joja crops couldn't be used to make seeds via the seed maker. To kind of mimic that dependence on corporations instead of Pierre's? It'd be cool also if the scales start being tipped more in Joja's favor the more business you give them- the more strained your relationships with certain villagers could become.
One thought regarding the Joja products, since they're genetically modified are there any consequences for putting their produce through seed makers? Making it so that the produce can't be put in a seed maker, or it's seed loses benefits, seems like a good way of keeping Joja from being too overpowered in the late game.
Great ideas! I was also thinking maybe there should be consequences for eating/drinking those products, like maybe the speed boost goes away after you drink ten of those sodas, and then gradually you get a speed reduction unless you keep on drinking them! (Or some other speed boost food.) Maybe it takes eating/drinking ten OTHER speed-boost foods to balance back to normal again. I was also considering maybe if you eat Joja crops you would gradually get less and less nutrition out of them. Like you might lose a point of health/energy each time you eat one of each kind. You might not notice it at first, but over time you would really want to have Pierre's seeds to give you more balanced nutrition. Overall I just think there needs to be long-term incentive to want to reject Joja. As it is, you'd be a fool not to choose them!
There is, the "Joja Seeds" mod's description says that Joja produce only yield wild seeds in seed makers. Also, they cannot be used in Community bundles as is, but you turn them into pickles, jams, juice, & wine.
in real life if you try to use seeds from Patented produce you get this special cutscene called a "lawsuit" where you will lose all your money and be put into debt.
The mod should make Joja initially undercut Pierre by 50% but after you buy the membership and run Pierre out of business they charge double Pierre’s original price. Realism
Thanks for the list! I wish Joja was more of a choice in the actual game. A lot of games make the supposed morally correct path the easier and more profitable one so you'd be a fool to take the more morally dubious route no matter what.
There should be a mod where Joja sells their own fertilizer. It would grow things faster than Deluxe Speed-Gro, but anything grown with it would have a quality penalty. Like, you'd rarely get even a silver quality. Maybe even a negative quality that's less valuable and marked with a red star. Could definitely be useful for things like flowers and ancient fruit, where the artisan goods are the real moneymakers. Also, it would be funny if there was a mod where buying from Pierre would make you more likely to be targeted by a Joja sniper, so you'd take damage in town.
The only two things you get in base-game from joining Joja is that it’s easier and faster to complete the warehouse (it takes less time to make a lot of money than gather everything for the community center) and the auto-petter. That’s about it, so this is a great addition
I always wished there was an incentive to actually go shopping in Joja Mart in the base game. Oh yeah, poor little Pierre in his tiny shop. Then why can he sell you hundreds of seeds (he just has them in stock for no reason?) when you are the only farmer (=only customer for seeds) around? I always wished he had a limited stock like the traveling cart. For example, you can only get 24 seeds of one crop per week. Buying out all of his stock would then slowly increase his stock so he can offer you more over time. This would also make players grow different crops and not just hundreds of the most valuable ones.
That might be a good idea for immersion, but probably not good for game design and enjoyment for min-makers and stuff like that. Still a good idea though
@@Xx_Progaemr_xX Honestly, maybe 50 to start and refreshes weekly but each season, add 25 more to each stock. Enough to get a good amount of seeds, but not enough to spam it
i feel that it would make more sense to have pierre cost more than to have joja cost less, maybe pierre is 115% price, joja is 110% price and the membership makes it 100% then the only way for pierre's price to go down is to complete the community center
Joja is a huge corporation, so I feel like a challenging mod where if you fail to meet a certain quota in a timeframe would make Joja increase their influence would be interesting. Like, if you didn't produce enough business for the town, Joja would take over the blacksmith, bar, Pierre's shop etc. which would make their owners jobless and increase the shop prices (or reduce them if you have a Joja membership)
I was honestly expecting mods where they became an actual torn in your side, like they killing your plants/live-stock, causing property damage or having some of your stuff go missing at night unless you do something.
Not surprised Shane likes the blue Joja Cola, considering that seems to tie in with that commercial he makes with Clint and Emily in one of his heart events
1. You should have to renew your membership yearly. 2. By buying at Joja you start to get more ads in the mail for discounted items based on what you have been buying. Game will actively attempt to get you to come back. 3. Buying stuff from Pierre gives his facility small upgrades. Seed maker, mill, crystallarium, or anything that is later game that you can't get right away. 4. If you buy too much from Joja, pierres will close or vice versa. You can always get them opened back up through donations. If you are active in buying from bothe then you will not have to worry about either closing. I think there should just be more depth to this part of the game. Actual consequences.
One idea I had for adding a bit of spice would be if Jojo had ways of retaliating if you started getting in the way of their plans. I know that one time my character passed out that they were picked up by some sought of jojo crew that was nearby the farm so they are at least monitoring you. Like they would behave almost like more aggressive crows, destroying crops, stealing things from chests that are left outside or even spreading false rumors about you that force you to go around town to talk to everyone to clear things up or you take a penalty. I don’t know how fun it would be but I kinda like the idea of needing to outsmart the mega corp when they try flexing their power
Stardew Valley Expanded really made me like Morris as a character, so I was super bumed out when he still got run out of town after completing the community centre, I was hoping by maxing out my friendship with him there would be some super good ending where he'd stay in some capacity, maybe becoming the manager of the cinema or keeping both stores open. I especially hated it because Pierre is the worst character, few things in gaming have made me so angry as him declaring joja mart is the reason the community centre fell apart and that everyone should boycott joja. The community centre fell apart because of the towns people getting lazy, nothing about joja prevented them from keeping the place tidy or using it. And pierre literally just wanted a monopoly in the town, but joja actually employed a few of the towns people, so more people lose out when joja closes its doors. It's too easy to say big companies and people in managerial positions are evil, when in reality a big company like joja could have brought a lot of stock to the town that they otherwise couldnt get, and Morris is just doing his job like everyone else, he has figures and quotas he needs to meet
A corporation will always take more than they give. They aren’t people, they’re entities that exist to make as much money as possible. Walmart is a good example, they’ve destroyed small towns. No, store managers aren’t villains. People are put into these situations because they’re expected to pull themselves up by their bootstraps even when the company they’re working for doesn’t pay them a living wage. I don’t condone people who rely on the cheap prices large chains can provide, that’s understandable. Maybe the best solution would be to change the financial system as a whole so people don’t have to worry about affording necessities.
What I would like if Pierres Crops had a chance off dropping seeds, while Jojas have nill. Like in real life were brand seeds are genetically altered to not produce useable seeds. That way farmers have to buy more seeds every harvest.
I wish there was a mod where, if you side with Joja Mart, the town does degrade over time. Things like prices go up everywhere except Joja Mart, and you can't sell your goods for as much money because Lewis, Pierre, or the town in general just doesn't have the money to pay you (and like hell Joja will give you a fair price) because a lot of the money people are spending is going to Joja, which isn't being circulated back into Stardew Valley, but going to wherever Joja is based. Or, without the community center, the people don't have as much incentive to work together, so townsfolk like Sebastian or Haley move into the city for better prospects. In later years, maybe they even drive away Rasmodius, and replace Lewis as mayor with someone new. Oh. One last thing. Have them up the price and limit the quantity of the Joja Brand seeds after the takeover. Only one farmer in that area, can't be shipping too much stock there, but still want to make all the money they can. If you wanted to get dark, but would make sense with this outcome, Shane would actually commit suicide. Maybe you can save him if you befriend him enough, but, let's face it, working for Joja after everything he's been through, then them dominating the town like this?...not likely. If a mod maker REALLY wanted to go all out, have it be possible to reverse all this after a few years somehow. Maybe talking to the new mayor, maybe finding Lewis and having him come back, maybe by talking to the governor, or maybe by becoming Mayor yourself. Though, at this point, your kinda just making a whole new game...Which I wouldn't say no too, but it would be a lot of work.
Joja seeds should be cheaper and produce more crop but also impossible to be of higher quality than normal. Additionally, Joja Mart should be cheaper all around than Pierre's shop BUT if Pierre is actually bought out by Joja then Joja Mart's prices should become even HIGHER because now they have no competition and therefore can now charge anything they want. You know, like real life.
Joja Immersion adds dialogue to (vanilla) NPCs commenting on the latest thing Joja has done for Pelican Town at your behest. It only kicks in when Morris shows you the list of community improvements so has no effect if you choose the Junimo route (i.e. you don’t have to install and uninstall depending on your chosen route).
Note here about living in a small town with a giant business. The biggest change to the community is more people moving in looking for jobs. Most farms and general stores continue to do pretty well. The difficulty for farmers is that other, much larger farms have made it so that it’s difficult to run a small farm as a full time job.
I think that the biggest change would be making it closer and more accessible than pierre, I literally never went to joja mart cus it was slightly further away 😅
In my modded play through I went the Joja route instead of the community center and they have a Joja day every 22nd of each month. The day lowers prices and all the people in town gather to Joja.
tbh i wish there was a mod that made Vincent and Jaz's bond more fleshed out beyond 'dumb boy' and 'smart girl', like maybe a Vincent cutscene (since he only has one which is tied directly to Sam's) where he and Jaz get into an arguement over Joja vs the Town (like Vincent wanting to become a Joja employee as an adult, while Jaz literally has a aunt who works for the town as an animal handler), and you need to help Vincent understand that Joja is not the path you should want to be going for, and having to mend the friendship of the only two kids in the whole town
I have an idea years ago that Stardew Valley’s ads and marketing should’ve framed a Joja as the good corporation. Or at least showing a joja playthrough. That way, it creates a sort of brand recognition that the protagonist would likely already have.
I'm surprised that nobody has emulated the Neoliberal strategy of starting off with extremely cheap prices until the competition gets ousted and then jacking the prices way above what they used to be once they're gone. It would actually make the choice at the beginning meaningful while also communicating that you made the wrong choice without preaching it to you.
The Joja mart song literally sounds like the elevator theme from ToonTown when you're about to fight some cogs. That is so fitting for a big company about 2 seconds after I wrote this comment it was confirmed to be the toontown song I am dead.
Really, going by a lot of the dialog, most of the reason they say "cheaper prices" is because Jojo has a lot of Coupons they give out and sales on various days. So honestly, I would say we need a mod that when you pick up a Joja membership, you get coupons in the mail for certain crops that will lower the price if you give them to the clerk for that day. Pierre meanwhile, can have his consistent prices. On the average, the cost should even out to about the same over your playthrough, but you might find yourself with more cash in your pocket if you spent money in Joja on certain sale days. Now there is an idea for a series, comparing the amount of money gained from someone that planted Joja crops vs Pierre's.
You know I cut out both Joja and Pierre. Once I get seed makers in a game, I'm pretty much self sufficient. I would buy all the Joja seeds once and keep making seeds out of them till I have a hefty crop. Also, that Joja corn is a rip off! You are supposed to be able to get multiple crops from the plants! Cutting them down is a waste!
Are there any mod that will make the community center actually useful or important? It feels bad knowing that you ran around for a year or two to fix the community center for only 2-3 people to ever go in.
Funny autopilot moment: At the end of the video, Sal here was talking about Morris and I was half alt-tabbing around to another game while listening. And Morris' text box was up on the video, and I clicked to speed through the text... Pausing the video. So I promptly laughed.
For some reason I feel as if Harvey should absolutely despise Joja Cafe. I case you don’t know, one of Harvey’s loves is coffee, so I feel as if he would get snooty over Joja Cafe pretending to be coffee.
I always thought that Joja would try to do something against the player or Pierre, since in one of the dialogues of Lewis says that the impact of the farm is befict to the villagers and always thought that Morris would visit you at yor farm or try to sabotage you by selling seeds to a lower price or something, but no he's just there existing and ignoring everyone else.
I think for the joja plants one, they should be unusable in the seed maker. Have it refrance how irl big companies have copyrighted seeds in the past making it illegal for farmers to use the residual seeds. (It’s a real thing and it’s really sad)
You know what would make sense, actually? If at Pierre's, there's a limited amount of each of the items in stock. You can increase it by selling stuff to Pierre. And maybe if you buy from Joja instead/don't sell anything to Pierre for a while, he has less and less items in stock
an interesting concept for mods for sure, but i think there also should be some consequences for getting the joja membership, maybe have them force you sign a contract where they make the cave and/or a decent chunk of your farm a joja building or something? also maybe by shopping at joja your friendship with maybe some certain villagers, like pierre and his family for example go down over time? i just think some cons would be good when going with the joja route since the only con i can tell with this is supporting a corporation, which isnt really a big con in a fictional game haha
As a Joja main, i feel like i need these in my life. Honestly i wish there was more. I use stardew expanded and there is one thing i noticed. In vanilla, jojas prices go down to match pierre if u buy the membership. That doesnt seem to be the case in expanded. Instead the 22nd of every month has the discount.
I would love it if stardew valley actually gave gameplay implications to which you chose. I don't really like how both routes are slightly different work with the same results
would be cool if as a long-term downside to joja, you couldn’t put joja crops in the seed maker, forcing you to always buy new seeds from them, just like real life corporations genetically engineer crops to have sterile seeds.
I feel like helping joja should be easy in the short term and harder in the long term. Something like: they raise prices or polute the rivers so fishings worse and some of the villagers hate you. Something like that. And let the player reverse their decision by building the center again so they dont have to live with the debuffs
this is a good start for purely gameplay aspects, but now we need interaction things. Imagine people starting to dislike you or even hate you the more you support Joja. Even an extreme scenario where people can sorta become hypnotized to Joja and just start to consume mindlessly, making you think about your choices. Hell, Joja could even throw you under the bus and do their own things if you go a wrong way, making you HAVE to crawl back to Pierre and help him fix the situation (although there could be a route where you just become an agent of Joja through and through...)
I kinda wish they made a mod post Joja Defeat, where Morris got fired from Joja for failing to establish the location and ended up living somewhere in the village. Ooo, like in the deep woods. Where at first the villagers would avoid him, lewis only barely tolerating him. But thanks to the farmer, he would slowly become a part of the village, with some hatred still lingering but they can at least tolerate him. Even a comical moment where Pierre spikes some food with hot pepper xD
Yeah I definitely enjoy using the like stardew super expanded pack because it adds more commentary of jobs possibly expanding to other surrounding towns and into Robin and Willy’s trades and such.
Some kind of answer to junimo huts would be cool like joja junimos but they're robots instead and come out of a little factory make it cost a larger flat value of gold but no fiber or stone perhaps battery packs and minerals instead to make it.
I really do wish it was more of a real choice between Pierre and Joja. It’s such a no-brained unless you want to pick something else for challenge’s sake, and for a game centered around community and friendship they always seemed to be in the background. True, we escape our dead-end Jojacorp job to come to Pelican Town, but other than that backstory beat, it affects nothing. I wish Joja did more to try and compete with Pierre: more discount sale days, cheaper quality products compared to Pierre’s, faster (and lesser) yields, more things that unlock for the town based on how much you shop there (kind of like the rivaling upgrade checklist)… _so much_ more than what we actually got. Oh well. At least the modding community is thriving.
@@salmence100 Pierre was already a threat to himself anyways, as he was selling stuff cheaper than a huge company that can buy in huge bulks, so he probably already made nearly no money or even losses due to his too cheap prices. Lowering the Joja prices would mean more that Pierre's prices are actually high enough for him to earn enough money from it, thus being good for him.
The local produce should be somehow better - maybe it feeds a couple of the locals like Penny as she needs the side hustle. Or it lets you recover more energy. Jojo mart's products should sell more, but let you heal less. I think that's a good balance, and reflect the lower amount of nutritions in some mass grown foods.
My brain has been rotted by JJBA to the point that I actually had to take a solid 30 seconds to realize the title of this video says "Joja", and not "Jojo".
I wish there was a horror mod to this in a way... everyone in the town has a major chance to be a criminal or murderer... Mayors embezzling, pierre's obsession with money, shanes alcoholism... someone could quite nicely make a who dunnit or a real darker take on the towns residents.
I'll be honest, I actually want to make a mod for Stardew dealing with Joja. My thing is that you never have had a reason to go with them. I like these ideas that give the moral thought behind "Money vs Community", but my thing is that plenty of people do seem to genuinely support Joja regardless, but don't really care after Joja is removed. People like Pam, Sam and Jodi all appear to like Joja well enough. So why not make the moral game harder? It's well known the first year is missing a character, Kent. Husband of Jodi and father to both Sam and Vincent, he is away Year 1 in the war between the Ferngill Republic and the Gotoro Empire. There's remarks throughout Year 1 about Sam and Vincent both missing their father, and in Heart Event 3 with Sam on the beach, he talks about being unsure if his father will even return due to the casualties the Republic is taking in this war. Several accounts all point to the war going rather badly for the Republic, but then it almost seems to fade out once Kent returns. So what if it was a major plot point? Joja is all about corporate power. They want a foothold in whatever they can, and should be using tactics to attain whatever power they can. So why not help the war effort? Imagine hearing about the war just a little more in year 1. Things aren't looking good for the Republic, and conditions aren't getting any better. What could be done? Well Joja could help. They don't have to be the good guys in this. Their intentions are malicious in takeover and corporate espionage ultimately, putting their potential foothold into politics by doing this. But what is gained? A war that can now be won. By helping support Joja, you help support the Republic in the War effort. Your funds towards assisting in projects is allowed to be funneled back into the War effort, allowing them more weapons and more soldiers to fight the Gotoro Empire. Yes, people will not agree with your decision, but others will ultimately see it as an act of Patriotism as you are helping the Republic you live in, assisting a business people don't completely hate. And people would buy into the publicity, it would look GREAT for Joja to help the Republic in the war. You become a hero in your own right in the eyes of Joja for assisting in paying for the war effort for them, and people see you not giving back to just the community, but the country. Then, this can all culminate at the end of Year 1, as Year 2 kicks off with Kent returning. He isn't aware of it yet, but there could be heart events later down the line that reveal you as the player helped fund the war effort. Due to your actions for the country, you helped the war effort and Kent makes it home. Jodi appreciates this, Sam and Vincent, people like Haley, George and/or Gus could as well. Of course people like Mayor Lewis, Leah, Robin and Shane would not enjoy this, but you do it for a good cause. So what if you still want to help the community? Some people would still want to not help Joja, you obviously left that life for a reason. What happens then? Simple. The war continues as is. It will always be ongoing no matter which route you go. But there is a problem that happens. Yes, you give to the community, you stick to the small group of people here, but ultimately you don't help the country. You aren't helping the corporation with the amount of money you make that clearly outshines most other people with rather little effort in comparison. And what comes of that? Kent doesn't make it back in Year 2. Perhaps its prolonged to another point in the timeline, but I think one of the most appropriate, heart-wrenching things that could be done is a moral choice to know that by supporting the community, Kent will die in action and the letter will arrive come the beginning of Year 2, notifying the Town that Kent was killed in the line of action. Yes, people will be upset, people like Jodi may even blame you, but you stick with your peace. Joja will eventually fall, but both options give you a moral standpoint. Is it worth saving Kent by potentially giving Joja more power than they already have? In either way your choices effect the town in meaningful ways, but its up to the player to decide which one matters more. Combining this idea with other mods that give Joja more of a presence would work wonders, and honestly I think the current state of the game is FAR too cut and dry. IF I ever get around to modding, this would probably be where it begins.
Completes community center, Ya im a good guy! Multiple Stardew Valley residences are now unemployed and Pierre didnt hire anyone..... Ok how are we good again?
Just finished the center and noticed that they don't get new jobs too. It would be nice if they went to Pierre, maybe help out Willy or worked at the Saloon after. Working on unlocking the cinema atm, but I have the feeling nobody will be hired in there either
My main issue with Joja is that it is the least fleshed out part of the game. Feels like a tacked on after thought just for the sake of having an antagonist. I have one joja-friendly run I did just to see what it's like that I jokingly refer to as my Evil-Run.
Now that you mention it, the antagonist could be literally anything else, like a forest creature that's angry because of the cc being ruined and the towns folk not connecting with one another. That might actually make more sense for a game with shadow people and little forest spirits, than the inclusion of a supermarket in a town that has less than 50 people living there. The cc is clearly the intended route, taking the choice away would change pretty much nothing
I feel like it doesn't make sense that the Joja seeds have higher quality than Pierre's one. I would expect the factory produced seeds are basic while organic stuff have extras on top of it. And it would make sense since the Joja seeds would be cheaper anyways
I assume it's like them artificially putting stuff in the seeds to try and make them more appealing? Then again it would also be interesting to see them false advertise them as boosting you but they wouldn't
@@Elyzeon. Then what is the point of making the Joja seeds cheaper then? Irl organic stuff usually have to have the same quality to justify having higher price than GMO ones, which are quite expensive irl. That is not to say about game balancing, which is weird
About Joja seeds, I think that as a consequence of buying bio-engineered crops, this would prevent you from turning Joja-crops back to seeds, just like a real life Monsanto. (Technically, monsanto only enforces you not to replant via an agreement, since this is a game with magical elements, I think we should go one step further)
they should add a mod that if you go full joja Pierre closes and then joja prices go up like 150%, that would be real corporate take over, maybe spice it up with joja starting a real state business too, maybe they investing in some land and pay you to mantain the crops that later they will sell you and the town to inflated prices, and sell special Joja Fertilizer that boost up any production that is fertilized with that at 20% but lower the fish rate in rivers, with capitalism the sky is the limit... or hell for that matter
there should be a mod that makes it so if you purchase items from jojo mart and get past certain milestones, then jojo mart takes over regardless of membership. Where it has a good number of cut scenes to show the takeover, to prevent players from being surprised.
Rather than slog through the membership form your purchases should go towards funding the renovations, every purchase will tell you "Once we hit our goal of X dollars we'll be able to take care of that Y in town!"
I found that when you are playing with 2-3 friends who all know what they are doing, joja becomes a lot more attractive. You can get money pretty quickly as 3-4 players, so joja feels easy and fast compared to bundles.
Completing bundles is frustrating and annoyingly requires you to hoard random items instead of gifting them or selling them. Playing the Joja route is a lot more casual and relaxed, where you can just play the game however you want and slowly make the payments at your own pace using money that you got doing whatever you enjoy doing. I genuinely wish the "bundles" was replaced by a different method of completing the Community Center route. An idea I had in mind was for it to be based on doing quests for other people in town that you get from the bulletin board. More quests completed = more town progress.
One Joja related mod I saw in passing, thought sounded interesting, but haven't tried is "Main Questline Redux (PMC CCJ)". It redoes the main questline in such a way that you are doing both the Community Center *and* Joja!
You should make it so that there is a huge discount INITIALLY, then once you've helped them screw over Pierre, the prices skyrocket. A classic destroy the competition and then gouge a captive audience move.
Then you can have the classic small town "Arson? No no no, it was struck by lighting!"
While it makes sense thematically, for gameplay it would be atrocious since it's directly punishing irreversible progression.
Realistic? Yeah.
Fun to Play? No.

It never made sense to me that joja was more expensive than the small local store.
Imean if you think about it joja may be loe quality but there's probably tons of shipping costs Pierre either has suppliers or grows his seeds and saplings himself

Yeah. my current farm is roughly 1,200-1.300 monocrop farm (not counting a few sheds I have yet to make into pseudo-greenhouses) and the greenhouse.
The ammount of ignorance common people have about GMOs is quite sad sometimes

@@v0rtexbeaterWhile infertility isn't inherent to GMO crops, corporations like Monsanto often specifically make seeds that are meant to produce infertile plants. it increases profit if the farmers have to perpetually buy new seeds. farmers are also prohibited under US law from replanting seeds that successfully reproduced from crops they own the patent of
@@v0rtexbeater Many of them ARE less healthy though. They're selected to taste as good as possible and have better yields, sometimes at the detriment of quality.
@@v0rtexbeater I think they're referring to GMO crops being copyrighted so that farmers can't save seeds, not GMO crops being infertile.
Honestly, apart from lore-friendly prices, I want just two things:

I have a few more Joja mods that I'm currently using:
- Juliet and Jessie the Jola Clerks - adds two NPCs that work at Joja (house is behind the CC). Adds cutscenes and another reason to visit the store every day.
- Abigail and Juliet Prank the Jojamart - adds four events for Abigail and Juliet where they prank Morris & the Jojamart
- Joja Immersion (Joja Needs Nuance) - if you go the Joja route, when you fix up the bus, minecarts, etc, there's no reaction from the villagers.
Though yeah i do think seeds should be the same price at joja and cheaper with membership because how it is now is kinda dumb
I think lowering the price on one item is known in the business as a "loss leader". The idea is you come for one product and stay to buy other things as well.
The demand being lower for them would cause their prices to be lower.
This is already true! When you put them in the seed maker it just makes wild seeds. You can check the mod description for details!
There is no way pierre wouldn't do that, too, though

True. You can't be the hero in everything.

@@Xx_Progaemr_xX
Honestly, maybe 50 to start and refreshes weekly but each season, add 25 more to each stock.
It makes more sense for Joja to actually be cheaper than Pierre's.
Actual consequences.
i recently did a "joja run" bc i never had done it before and it was not at all worth it. these at least make it a viable option
I did one just to get the steam achievement and then abandoned the save file lol
Prefer the joja route half the time. CC route gets tiring at times. Love the Junimos though.
Pierre can suck it though
That’s why I did the Morris Redeemed mod instead. I think they’re compatible and he stays after (I’m not sure if the hearts stick though)
The Zuzu City / Downtown mod adds Joja headquarters when you go Downtown. I think that's really interesting!!
There also is a regular store ofc
Joja seeds should be cheaper and produce more crop but also impossible to be of higher quality than normal.
Additionally, Joja Mart should be cheaper all around than Pierre's shop BUT if Pierre is actually bought out by Joja then Joja Mart's prices should become even HIGHER because now they have no competition and therefore can now charge anything they want.
You know, like real life.
Watching this while I'm inside Walmart makes for some nice topical fun.
The creator blatantly didn't want people to choose joja. It's supposed to be an illusion of choice.
But I like these mods, great video!
Joja should have it’s own shipping bin and they have deals where on certain days you get extra money for using their bin. Holiday specials and such.
Good to know these mods exist. I'm a sucker for the clearance bin when getting old baked sweets for less than $3.
The Joja mart song literally sounds like the elevator theme from ToonTown when you're about to fight some cogs.
That is so fitting for a big company
about 2 seconds after I wrote this comment it was confirmed to be the toontown song I am dead.
The Joja seeds can't be obtained via seed makers, the Joja crops just make wild seeds. Sneaky Joja Corp!
@@VioletLizabet
*gasp* That's diabolical! I would cry if that happened! 😭
Are there any mod that will make the community center actually useful or important? It feels bad knowing that you ran around for a year or two to fix the community center for only 2-3 people to ever go in.
There's a community center mod. I think it adds events and times where npcs visit. Unfortunately its not compatible with SVE
Funny autopilot moment:
At the end of the video, Sal here was talking about Morris and I was half alt-tabbing around to another game while listening.
Also since he's a doctor, he probably wouldn't endorse an Energy Drink cause those can kill folks. So works on multiple levels.
Dang, those Joja crops got that GMO-glow
I always thought that Joja would try to do something against the player or Pierre, since in one of the dialogues of Lewis says that the impact of the farm is befict to the villagers and always thought that Morris would visit you at yor farm or try to sabotage you by selling seeds to a lower price or something, but no he's just there existing and ignoring everyone else.
Your mod videos are always great so I'm super stoked for this one. Thanks!
If you don't have Zuzu city /downtown I recommend that fore some more Joja content. The CEO is romanceable as well
I would love it if stardew valley actually gave gameplay implications to which you chose. I don't really like how both routes are slightly different work with the same results
would be cool if as a long-term downside to joja, you couldn’t put joja crops in the seed maker, forcing you to always buy new seeds from them, just like real life corporations genetically engineer crops to have sterile seeds.
Already true in the Joja Seeds mod! The mod description mentions that if you put Joja crops in the seed maker, you just get back wild seeds.
I feel like helping joja should be easy in the short term and harder in the long term. Something like: they raise prices or polute the rivers so fishings worse and some of the villagers hate you. Something like that. And let the player reverse their decision by building the center again so they dont have to live with the debuffs
That’s such a good idea! Like if there was just a slight downside added every month after choosing Joja
this is a good start for purely gameplay aspects, but now we need interaction things.
Imagine people starting to dislike you or even hate you the more you support Joja. Even an extreme scenario where people can sorta become hypnotized to Joja and just start to consume mindlessly, making you think about your choices.
Hell, Joja could even throw you under the bus and do their own things if you go a wrong way, making you HAVE to crawl back to Pierre and help him fix the situation (although there could be a route where you just become an agent of Joja through and through...)
love your mod showcases :]
I seriously want that Clearance Bin, man....just like Subnautica, I so wish Nintendo offered the mods.
It always makes me happy to see Morris getting some sort of love like this. I guess I'll be downloading SV Expanded for that.
He could become a second Linus
Yeah I definitely enjoy using the like stardew super expanded pack because it adds more commentary of jobs possibly expanding to other surrounding towns and into Robin and Willy’s trades and such.
it is definitely a powerful move to go through the effort of installing a joja mod just so you can heroically resist using it
Some kind of answer to junimo huts would be cool like joja junimos but they're robots instead and come out of a little factory make it cost a larger flat value of gold but no fiber or stone perhaps battery packs and minerals instead to make it.
That ToonTown tune earworms me for days. Clearance Bin is a great way to get 1g seeds on bargain :)
Now make a mod that adds a recipe that combines all the joja cola flavors, I’ll call the Joja Tombstone
I somehow missed the mod that made Joja a threat. All of them seemed to just make them more appealing, so more like the opposite of a threat.
To Pierre.
You must think you're very smart and clever 🙄
I must admit that, from the thumbnail, I thought that joja may poison your crops with herbicide sometimes or something
I recognized that elevator music immediately, it unlocked something deep in my brain
0:51 my soul left my body when i started hearing toontown music
This is an amazing video! I always love looking at mods for stardew valley, and this video that can basically do that for me lol.
I like that the Joja tomatos are actually fruits. I know it is pedantic but it is fun
Sam at least gets a job at the Museum, but I do wish Shane got a job, it’d be good for him
i wish after we completed the community center we could hire somebody to work our farm I know we have the junimo's but someone to tend to the animals
This was fun! Really well done video.
HAHAHA i died when he said it was the music from tunetown, that caught me off guard
@@thewitheredsouls but alas, the seeds here are blatantly better in any regards. Which is weird balance wise and real life logic wise
@@galegusto4407 organic is not better, gmo is better IRL. If pierre sells his own organic seeds it would make sense they are worse than joja seeds.
@@Elyzeon. Then what is the point of making the Joja seeds cheaper then? Irl organic stuff usually have to have the same quality to justify having higher price than GMO ones, which are quite expensive irl.
That is not to say about game balancing, which is weird
@@galegusto4407 There really is no real world justifiable way of doing it so you do have to just make up stuff for it
About Joja seeds, I think that as a consequence of buying bio-engineered crops, this would prevent you from turning Joja-crops back to seeds, just like a real life Monsanto. (Technically, monsanto only enforces you not to replant via an agreement, since this is a game with magical elements, I think we should go one step further)
love the joja seeds thing being a real threat/convenience in irl agriculture like having out of season crops
Joja crops should be incompatible with the seed maker because they’re patented.
they should add a mod that if you go full joja Pierre closes and then joja prices go up like 150%, that would be real corporate take over, maybe spice it up with joja starting a real state business too, maybe they investing in some land and pay you to mantain the crops that later they will sell you and the town to inflated prices, and sell special Joja Fertilizer that boost up any production that is fertilized with that at 20% but lower the fish rate in rivers, with capitalism the sky is the limit... or hell for that matter
there should be a mod that makes it so if you purchase items from jojo mart and get past certain milestones, then jojo mart takes over regardless of membership. Where it has a good number of cut scenes to show the takeover, to prevent players from being surprised.
Rather than slog through the membership form your purchases should go towards funding the renovations, every purchase will tell you "Once we hit our goal of X dollars we'll be able to take care of that Y in town!"
Reminds me of how Nook's shop upgrades in Animal Crossing
omg the toontown music, that itself deserves a subscribe
