Listening to him speak and then watching him play makes so much sense. Every note is thought out, so when it's "go" time, he is on auto -pilot. Watch him when he plays, he almost looks bored, but he just knows what's going on and is WAY more relaxed than most drummers.
Thank god for these guys still kicking ass!! Getting better with time. Not only great musicians great people aswell. Loved there performance in houston, texas back in 84 signals tour, still have the t-shirt.
Just bought and watched "Taking Center Stage" from Hudson Music. For any Neil Peart fan this is absolutely required viewing. It is awesome. 3 full DVD's. Go to the Hudson website and buy it. "a gift beyond price, almost free".
iv only seen him live 1 time[ early 80s.]He of course played perfectly and his solo was as u would think unreal.i heard on the radio back then that he used to ride his bike from san diego to L.A. That he is a beast in life as well as on the drums.people who dislike NEIL should not be allowed to have a computer.
@diagreen People who disklike Neil should not have a life. The Professor is one of the greatest drummers of all time! This man is my influence and hero.
What's weird about Neil is that he just doesn't suck at all...ever. And you can bet he sits home listening to people he thinks are better than him in his free time. He's a Real Person...and he built a goddamned Empire beating on some pillows with heavy sticks. I love the Young/Old part of this.
Wow. Peart is... there's not even a word. I play percussion and bang a drum now and then. Seeing NP play makes me want to say, "Drums? Me? Nope, never touched one." I'm warming up to getting behind a kit - a small kit. Hopefully, I won't embarrass myself too much. Guess I need this DVD...
Wow! He sits quite low I wonder if he doesn't gets tired too soon, imagine he could play longer.... that'd be sick! He is so seious, I like that, his attitude is like "Im a true drumming mentor, and I'm so balanced and relaxed that you can see I play drums just as if I were breathing".
@diagreen i love what you said because hes the real deal. I saw him a few years back in concert, and then got the chance to meet him in person, he signed a picture and talked to me about tons of stuff for a couple minutes. Great guy that has true talent
@xNostalgiK U MET HIM??????AWESOME.It sucks getting old but we have lived in a great time. to have seen amazing bands like RUSH,ZEP,WHO that were coming up in the 70s and in RUSHES and THE WHOS case rocking till today.Wish i could live it again.
@utahdrumtech ya know it's funny. i stopped buying and/or paying attention to Rush's output, before roll the bones came out. but i'm watching the vids on youtube with great interest, and i wish them all the best. these guys are the real deal. i just love'em. I just watched the documentary, beyond the lighted stage, and that has sent my love and respect for our boys right off the charts. peace, my friend.
i watched a video in which he explains his thoughts behind Roll The Bones, and i can even explain how in depth he goes. He has an unbelievable knack for doing something not many people can do.
his old red version of this kit was auctioned off for over $30,000. Most of the metal components are made from 24k Gold, which is an available feature for DW kits.
@stefanojazzman "The Rhythm Method" was just the generic name Neil started to give his drum solos that weren't part of or in the middle of a song but their own pieces or tracks on a Li e Album. You can listen to "A Show of Hands" ('89) & "Different Stages" ('98) and they're both labeled "The Rhythm Method". It wasn't until the "Rush In Rio" DVD that he's started his more recent pattern of naming them in the language of the country they're recording in.
@Benladensuxxs Hey, if you check out the live album "different stages" by RUSH. Disc 2 track 8. It's called The Rhythm Method. You can also find parts of it on UA-cam just look for Rhythm method.
LOL! Well, I inadvertently hit "post comment" before I was finished and thought, "oh damn" --- and because I was so concerned that my comment came out wrong, or seemed negative toward you, which was not my intent at all, I needed to follow up immediately.
i can never say whos the best drummer, cause there are so many that are amazing,, i love classic rock, so l love bonham n Moon.... Geddy lee said when NEIL auditioned for rush, he thought neil looked goofy..... Geddy lee said someone looked goofy?? wow, lol, but one of the worlds best musicians,, nevermind one of the best Bass players, in lee.. also said, listening to Neil peart was like hearing bonham, and moon at the same time.. like i said, cant pick a favorite, but Peart is fuckin awsome
@diagreen Yep met him in 2006. Pretty calmed guy, but really cool. Definitely agree with you, but unfortunately music is going on a downturn from such great rock music like in the 70s and 80s. But like you said Rush and the Who are still going on which is amazing
I owned the Roland Vdrums and never was satisfied with those stock sounds that Neil is using here. I found that tweaking all the Vdrum sounds with effects or just manipulating them in some fashion was the only way to make them palatable. Listen to some of the King Crimson "Projects" recordings for examples.
@ltuomela La Villa Strangiato is by far the hardest song to play out of any Rush song....you should know that. From now on...use that as you're base line. Damnit.....
God damn I miss this guy...
RIP Professor 😪😢
Neil peart rocks!! hes my inspiration as a drummer. i wish i could play like him :D
Rest in peace, Neil.
9/12/1952 - 1/7/2020
He is the best, not just because of his drumming but he really knows what he is talking about, and hes super smart. A great speaker!
Listening to him speak and then watching him play makes so much sense. Every note is thought out, so when it's "go" time, he is on auto -pilot. Watch him when he plays, he almost looks bored, but he just knows what's going on and is WAY more relaxed than most drummers.

don't feel bad. i've been playin for years and will NEVER be this good. guys like these are born, not made. they hear and see things we just don't
Neil and Stew Copeland are my all time favorites.
"k, Neil, there's a little bit of a leak in the roof, can we move u to the next room"
Neal: "FUUUUUU-"
Mr. Peart, his story and legacy are moving. I am sorry for his pain, and grateful for his amazing contributions.
Not only is he a good drummer but he is also very knowledgeable and offers a lot of wisdom about drumming.
@diagreen People who disklike Neil should not have a life. The Professor is one of the greatest drummers of all time! This man is my influence and hero.

Greatest Drummer ever, period

Bring it whoop your ass! is officially the best comeback of all time.

i watched a video in which he explains his thoughts behind Roll The Bones, and i can even explain how in depth he goes. He has an unbelievable knack for doing something not many people can do.
He makes it look easy. I swear he is a machine and not a man.
his old red version of this kit was auctioned off for over $30,000. Most of the metal components are made from 24k Gold, which is an available feature for DW kits.

Great drummer.
You're not the only one
LOL! Well, I inadvertently hit "post comment" before I was finished and thought, "oh damn" --- and because I was so concerned that my comment came out wrong, or seemed negative toward you, which was not my intent at all, I needed to follow up immediately.
1:05 " the dum dum drum " Epic !
Roy Mayorga from Stone Sour does.
@LandiniC I don't know either. But if he's gonna wear a hat, wear a different hat. He looks like Jim Brown. Maybe a baseball cap or a skully.
i can never say whos the best drummer, cause there are so many that are amazing,, i love classic rock, so l love bonham n Moon.... Oh no, I mean he's still the amazing dude for a long time, I just didn't realize he's like in his 40s-50s?
@ltuomela La Villa Strangiato is by far the hardest song to play out of any Rush song....you should know that. From now on...use that as you're base line. Damnit.....
