I've always found Ahmedinejad to be eloquent and intelligenct and he's no different here.
WHY can't Iran have weapons for self defence? On the same note why does the US still need 1000's of nukes, decades after the fall of the Soviet Union?
    Double standards, me thinks.

Mahmoud simply asks the question: Do the Palestinian Arab refugees not deserve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? If Americans consider this important question, and the accept that your nation is support an intrinsically racist state of Israel, then you undermine your own constitution and the values that you profess to hold close to your heart.

Ahmadinejad is an extremely smart man. He can tech the Americans a lot about running a successful country. with the years of sanctions against Iran, it is still the 16th largest economy in the world. 2nd largest producer of oil in OPEC and the 2nd, only to Russia, in the extraction of natural gas. This man is a hero and should be regarded as one. Iran is technologically advanced, just like the US and Canada.

Peace now. He is a human being just like rest of us. Fear blurs our vision and corrupts our minds. In this video, his remarks are very articulate and logical. and Iran's submission to the nuclear watch proves his points.
Be brave and cast aside your fears for a moment of clear communication.

I agree with you, there is this hysteria in the US over this man, but when I have seen him speak he is very logical and cogent, and speaks delicately with a great deal of respect. I think the irrational fear and hatreds of Americans toward this MUSLIM (key word) really represents just everything that is dysfunctional and backward about our education system and society's awareness as a whole.

but i wonder how far do one suspicions must go before one start trusting someone.
befor i start watching his interviewS i was convinced that his intention was to get the weapon. now i believe that nothing indicates that it is the case.
yet i still find comments like the one you see here that shows people are not convinced
should i go with the certainty of other or my uncertainty?

I am not saying that the old government in Iran didn't face instability or problems in the region, however, the magnitude of the conflict in the region has definately escalated since pahlavi, with the acquirement of more advanced weaponry by Israel, Iran and other other groups such as Hezbollah, which raises the level of damage and displacement that can be brought about through aggression. Additionally, US intervention in Iran during the 1950's to reinstall Shah Palhavi led...

To me, I understand his viewpoint. In that, I found hyprocritcal of other possessing nuclear nations not to allow other countries to have it. Alhtough the non-proliferation act involves those involved. I don't recommend anybody to have it. But the benefit of doubt of somebody to have it should be considered.

  • @atlien991

And to be perfectly clear, the issue is power. The US doesn't want a veto on invasion. Nukes are a veto on invading any country. We talk about WMDs but the only countries we WON'T invade are the ones that actually have them.
The US doesn't want to be impeded from invading. If Iraq had a nuke there would be no occupation right now cuz the US couldn't have invaded and been the country to kick off nuke war.
Race, however is the dividing line over who can have nukes and who cannot.

Such policies have made it exceedingly difficult for Iran diversify its trade relations, although unions such as EU have clearly informed its members not to participate in the actions propogated by the ISLA. However, it must be conceded that the ISLA has not totally crippled the Iranian economy; competition of companies not based in the USA continues in Iran, and pipeline and gas extraction equipment is being supplied to Iran by non US based manufacturers...

due to the frustration in the Iranian populace towards US intervention policies. In conclusion, the situation in Iran and its surrounding regions has been made a lot more "touchy" through US Intervention, something which did not happen when Shah Palhavi was in power before being sent into exile. I am NOT excusing Ahmadinejad for many policies of his that I find questionable, however, what I am suggesting is that the international community, especially the US, should spend more efforts...

Agha: I see the nature of despotism through this man and through the streets of Tehran and other parts of Iran. Iran used to be such a peaceful country with Iranians being so easygoing and calm. My point is that Iranians are not a vehement group of people who want to rally every day and are by no means prone to protest or try to overthrow the government by illegal means, such as terrorist attacks. So what made scores of Iranians throng the streets to demand clean politics?

I have looked into this matter of Iran threatening to wipe Israel off the map. The exact words, in Farsi, uttered by Ahmadinejad on 25 Oct. 2005 were: "Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad." Israel is not spoken of by name, only the regime occupying Jerusalem. There is no mention either of map or wiped out. Correct translation: The Iman said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time.

to a more authoritarian form of government in Iraq under the Shah (the Shah ahd to do this to maintain political stablity), although this had not been the Shah's intention before he was sent into exile. This authoritarian movement in the government was a major hurdle towards more fairly representative govenments in Iran. Additionally, the actions of the US provided a context for many Muslim hardline conservative to brodcast their views to the populace and increase in popularity...

i was not familliar with the middle east but i have recently looked into the matter. and it appear (Knowingly or unknowingly) our media have mis-coted him he never talked about the physical Israel but rather the reality of Israel as a state which in ideology is much like south Africa not so long ago.
As for Gaza i don't know if he is helping them but if he is it will be like giving a knife to a kid who is about to fight 3 grown ups with machetes. not really the christian thing to do

and are likely going to throw off the middle-east's chances of peace for another decade or so. I admit that Ahmadinjead may not be doing the best job in office right now, but he represents a small, yet existant chance for Iran to rebound and deal with its own internal problems, and in a small way restoring some stability to the middle-east. The international community has to jump on this opportunity and try to make progress on nation relations and not be distracted from the goal...

In essence, the Iranian economy is not doing so well at the moment, and this trend is likely to continue as long as the middle-east region expeiences political instability. It is quite unfair to point fingers at individuals given the instability of Iran's localities as well as the "touchy" foregin relations situations it is experiencing with the many other nations such as the USA.
