I just got a 5d mk2 and have another on the way. What I learned from this video and others like it when I was deciding what to go for is how bloody good the mk2 is and always will be!
I just bought a 5d2 for 140 USD, 131 euro in good condition and not used that much and if I know myself I’ll be looking at other bargain deals on maybe the 5d classic and 5d3 in the future! The end result hasn’t got better with new technology only easier to get there faster and one photographer I use to watch even claims that the end result was better with these old ones because they had these unique colors modern cameras doesn’t have.
Great video Sean! I will never get rid of my 5D mk ii for a mirrorless. For the simple reason that I do not like electronic finder and with my 5D mk ii I can go for a week with only one battery.
I was super surprised by just how good the electronic viewfinder was in the EOS R, plus there are numerous benefits including the exposure simulation (meaning no more shots missed because I forgot to adjust the exposure!). Furthermore, I do a lot of filming, and I find the EOS R makes more efficient use of the batteries. I went to Cornwall for a week recently, and only changed my battery once (and took nearly 800 photos!) To each their own - enjoy your 5Dmk2 - but I was skeptical of mirrorless and can say with 100% confidence that my concerns were completely unfounded.

Hello Sean. Great review. I bought a 5D Mk ii two weeks ago, and I'm pretty sure you miss yours. This is a just a legendary camera and still very capable in 2023.
Excellent vid Sean.....also a 5D2 user for 10 yrs, and looking to upgrade. I'm on the fence between the R and R6 for landscape photography. You've certainly given me some food for thought. Cheers👍
Ironically went from 5D classic to 5D 2 recently with a quarter million on it. Just a holdover until I can find an R for a great price. Everyone is overlooking the R for the R5 and R6, where it's still the 5D IV sensor in there.
canon 5d mark ii has automatic focus on video, you have to put the camera in mode A and with AF-on you select the focus and it follows it in its movements. You can help find the focus in the first instance by using the zoom

If Canon would have came out with a Mirrorless camera with the same button layout as the 5Dmk2, they would have sold a ton of them. I switched to Sony cameras, but I still kept my 5Dmk2. Mainly because mine is in mint condition, and when ever I go into a bad neighborhood, I take the 5Dmk2. If someone steals it, I can replace it for not a huge amount of money. If some one steals my A7S3 or A7R3, I'll be out a crap load of money.
i had a 5d ii and want to get into photography again. is the dos RP on par or better than the 5d ii?? it gets a bad rep but a "bad" bad modern camera should outperform a great old camera no?
Check out www.dxomark.com/Cameras/ for sensor comparisons. Generally, yes, the EOS RP will perform better than the 5D mark 2 in almost all areas (autofocus, dynamic range etc)

Once you really use a mirrowless You never go back. Allá the viewfinder points... Means nothing when You got just the real exposure in the digital one .
@@SeanTaylorPhotography I understand your point. But judging by the way you praised the things you liked better about the 5D mark ii compared to the EOS R (other than it having a flip screen) I would have kept the 5D mark ii and returned the EOS R, lol.
Hey Atlas - sorry for any misunderstandings, this video is supposed to only be the sort of technical sensor and ergonomic first impressions - the 'performance' will be in an upcoming video. I'm a landscape photographer so I won't be displaying its performance with regards to portraiture, sorry to disappoint :(
I do personally find that the newer these cameras get the less character the photos have. They’re almost too clean, too clinical and too digital. That’s why the 5D classic and 5D mkii still take some of the best pictures.

If someone want to steal your 5d you can use it as a weapon, its rock solid.
I would just keep it for sentimental value. 😉

Thanks for video! How about the auto focus in 5dm2? I think mine works just good, but the camera is criticized for the very bad AF.
The autofocus on the eos r is significantly better than the autofocus on the 5d2. Check out my follow up videos for more info :)

The EOS R is the better camera by quite a lot.

where is the photo comparison? portraits? Who has a more lively, real picture? and who has a plastic, boring and technical picture?
