- Another bonsai pruning and repotting video
This time its a Ficus Microcarpa which is also known as Chinese banyan or Malayan banyan.
This tree which is a twin trunk style bonsai is about ten years old and has developed nice aerial roots. I did a light pruning and repotting using my bonsai soil mix

I chose a small shallow ceramic pot for the repotting which actually looked quite nice with the tree in it.
However a couple days later I realised that the soil was drying up too fast after watering due to the small size of the pot. I felt this could affect the health of the root system and tree.
Also summers can be quite harsh here and my mother usually has a difficult time coping up with the watering when I am not around.
So I decided to to replace the white ceramic pot with a larger shallow earthen pot which doesn’t look too bad in my opinion.

10 years... I know that bonsai can live for much longer. I have never been able to keep a plant for over a year.

My favorite ficus species so far! Freakin love them! Have 2 so far that are thick and nice trees. Hopefully I'll be adding a few more less impressive ones soon. Thanks for getting me on the ficus hype train! Loving my 5 ficus species so far. Now I just need a hardy fig, and a ficus religiosa. Only problem is I can't find any sources for ficus religiosa but seeds. If you have any links to cuttings or actual plants I'd love one.

Excellent didactive video. I have a few query first the plant was potted in Red bonsai tray and a helthy growth , was it potted Bonsai soil mixture found in online. And 2nd query you potted with in a new pot and using Bonsai soil mixture that is found in online, and the plant is helthy.

Was the lava rock on the surface for asthetic purposes, or does it do something for the soil below?
Aesthetics as well as soil aeration, housing good bacteria and also prevents soil washing away during watering and rain.

Recently I repotted my ficus bonsai but after some days, it started loosing leaves with dried leaves.
Plzz suggest me what to do
Its the season. The ficus loses its leaves during this time. It also happens during repotting. It will grow back don’t worry. If you have a choice do not repot plants in winter.

Do you mean the aerial roots? Ficus tend to grow aerial roots in high humid conditions.

Sorry my bro, just wanna correct your word. thats not Ficus Microcarpa. but its Ficus Compacta. 🙏🙏🙏😆😆😆
Thanks. Compacta is a cultivar of Benjamina. Microcarpa is a scientific name that covers most of these cultivars in this family of Ficus. Yes sometimes these can be quite confusing.
